Unlike the majority of my reviews, this one won't follow the pros and cons list since there simply are no cons. I was invited to an extravagant Indian wedding celebration in Miami at the end of March. It was thankfully- yet unfortunately- canceled due to Covid-19, but I'm glad I at least walked away with an amazing experience at this North Austin business. I was not aware that the shop is run out of owner Nisha's garage, so when I pulled up to the lovely suburban home one afternoon after visiting my parents, it spoke volumes that upon calling Nisha to see if she was available, she was warm and welcoming even with no notice. Upon arrival, I asked her first and foremost if my wearing Indo ethnic fashion was appropriate as the extensive anecdotal research I'd done online said yes, but I needed firsthand validation and could not ask the bride nor groom as the groom was a roommate of my boyfriend's in college whom I'd never met. She assured me that the effort I put into their culture would be appreciated. She then asked how conservative the families were, a question I could not answer, but when I told her the last names, she knew immediately that they wouldn't be which I found hysterical. Now for her truly amazing talents. Nisha looked me over, fully dressed, and without asking me my US size nor measuring me, pulled out an absolutely STUNNING pink and gold anarkali gown which fit me perfectly. As a pale Irish ginger, I stay far away from pinks, but I fell in love with that piece immediately. While I was changing into the dress, she pulled out a formal saree in the most beautiful jade and gold hues I'd ever seen. As a pale Irish ginger, anything in the green family is my perfect color, and she knew that instinctively. I'm so sad to have missed out on all the festivities of the wedding, but I think I'm more sad that I didn't have a chance to wear the saree she chose! I cannot recommend Nisha's business enough, and you can guarantee that if I ever have another occasion requiring Indo ethnic fashion, she'll be my first and only stop! PRO TIPS: -Call ahead to ensure that she's available. The business is run out of her home to prevent needing to charge higher prices for her products. -She rents sarees and some other less expensive fashion items for those of whom only need a piece for an event. -If you're plus sized and needing an anarkali gown, you may want to check in with her early on. She had a gown to fit me, a 5'10" plus size girl, but she literally only had one, so you may need to give her notice to get something in stock. -You'll pay a pretty penny, but it's because everything she has is beautiful and of the highest quality. read more

Overall I had a good experience getting my first sari here. I had no idea what to look for and I was buying a sari for a wedding. Nisha really helped me find a beautiful sari within my budget. I called and set up a time to try on some saris and she showed me several and wrapped me - I found what I wanted pretty early on but she was willing to pull out more. She has a good variety of women's clothing, not as much men's. She also does henna! I got great one on one attention from her during my first visit and very satisfied with everything. WARNING: She gets very busy on some days and it can get crazy. I had to come back for my petticoat which she tailored for me. I also needed my blouse to be tailored as well. When I came back for a fitting, she was helping 4 different people and it was very chaotic. She told me she would spend extra time with me to help me get more comfortable with wrapping my sari by myself the last time I saw her, but she didn't have any time for me during this visit. She was very quick to shuttle me out of the door because she was so inundated with helping other people and she is the only one who runs the shop. I am very thankful for all the help I got from Nisha, but I think she shouldn't schedule multiple people to come in at the same time if she isn't able to handle them all. If you decide to buy from her, make sure that you are the only one being helped at that time so you get the full attention you need. Together with my mom we purchased $1400 worth of clothing from Nisha. We paid full price for the items and stitching. She promised they would all be ready in 2 weeks. However when the time came for final fitting she hesitated and requested a later pickup date despite knowing I was flying in to pick them up ( I live in SF). Even though we were disappointed, we worked with her schedule. We spent money to Uber to her house plus over an hour at her house. It appeared nothing had been prepared or altered ahead of time as promised. In addition, my moms outfits were not ready. Nisha was forced to drop off the my mom's outfits two days later. When we wore the items to the event we realized they were not altered properly at all. Somehow when she dressed us in the blouses etc she must have put pins or clips to give appearance of good fitting when in reality the blouse was much larger or very tight in some areas. One of the blouses was way too tight cutting off circulation under one arm ( the other arm was fine). Nisha knew I had major surgery under one arm. I was very dissatisfied with her alterations and lack of attention to my needs. Two of my mom's saris were not finished - threads coming off. On some of the blouses hooks were broken. They only way we could wear the clothes was with multiple safety pins. One of the saris had a stain on it. One of the pre stitched the saris was unevenly stitches. Pleats were not equal. We felt very cheated. And when we requested a refund of 1000 she refused and only gave us 225. We need to have all the items restitched which going to cost more time and money. This is in addition to the time we already spent with Nisha. Beware I do not recommend buying anything from Taj Fashion. I rarely write yelp reviews or request money back but the work was so terrible. read more
