Vic is the best server ever! He was so kind to my family and I, immediately welcoming us in and ushering us to a table. He recommended spice levels for our food and made jokes the entire time, which was very uplifting. I ordered the Tandoori Shrimp and it was impeccable! I never have an issue with the food here, all the sides and dishes I've tried previously are amazing. Everything was just the right spice level and looked great, thanks to Vic. They've remodeled in the past few years so it looks more modern in the space, but it never takes away from the natural fun atmosphere. I think I just found my favorite restaurant in Vallejo! Don't let its casual, mall setting fool you: the food and the service are terrific. Taj Grill 's menu offers great range of dishes. I ordered the lamb tikka masala, cucumber raita, and basil naan. My friend, who's vegan, had the saag chana (chickpeas in a spinach puree) with a vegan type of naan that was beautifuly charred, It went well with the mint chutney (sauce) I ordered. The generous portion of cubed lamb was perfectly tender, in a rich and comforting, yet not-heavy sauce, thoughtfully plated in a long, narrow dish and decorated with a pretty squiggle of yoghurt. The naan, sprinkled with dried basil, was nice and chewy. I enjoyed a bite of the saag chana, too -- yum! We also shared an appetizer, chhole bhature -- whole chickpeas boiled in black tea then cooked with onions and spices, served with big, puffy fried bhature (a bit like fried naan, but very delicate). The chhole was sublime, with warm, complex flavors. The waiter, who was attentive and absolutely charming, also brought us a small dish of thinly sliced raw onion marinated in a bit of mixed pickle. It was lovely with both our main dishes (also I couldn't help nibbling it on its own...). The combination of absolutely delicious food and excellent service in a pleasantly casual environment makes Taj Grill the kind of restaurant I look forward to returning to over and over again. read more

I apologize for applying my review late. And I apologize for such a long review lol We went last week. First off, we moved to Vallejo 3 years ago. We havent had one place to really call our own, and we are picky. I am a mexican mom who havent found a good mexican place. And my husband is Asian and there are no traditional Asian places either. Which was the first thing I said when walking in. We were greeted by a kind man and he told us to sit anywhere. One thing I noticed about the place....CLEAN!!! OMG the place was so clean you can eat off their floors. (dont do that lol) The kinda man we were greeted by, came over and waited on us so sweetly. And whats a plus, he had such a cute sense of humor. He joked with us and was such a pleasure. Our food came and it was beautiful. I got to admit, they had uch a wonderful variety of diffferent Naans. Most I ever see is plain or garlic. They had a bunch of different ones. I had the Basil one and that will be my favorite. Now the kicker! I was concerned on the spice level. I personally cant do spicy, but we were asked the level of spice we wanted which I thought was brilliant. Normally you get what you take in and kill over later lol. But I did mild and it had the slight spice but didnt affect me. I honestly was scared my stomach would be eaten away lol or I would get my normal acid reflux.....nope, I was good! Why do I think? because the food was clean. I am so please with this place and will wonderfully go again. OH OH OH I forgot! I ordered a Chai Tea. I have had many Chai teas and many places. I like Chai, but havent had a true good one in years! This place had the Best Best best Chai Tea. My only complaint was the couple behind us. They ticked us off, or especially bringing out my mommy protection mode. They asked the man with the kind face what his name was. The server's name was Prince. The couple asked sarcastically "is that your real name?" and he said yes. They tried acting all excited and asked a rude question "Oh are you a REAL prince in your country?" and they laughed at him. I give a expression face to my husband telling him how the couple was rude. Prince took the comment with respect and said no, and that was just his name and continued with his work like a pro. Wanted to smack that couple upside the head with my Chancla shoe lol. ( Tip: Dont disrespect someone's culture, its WRONG) I dont care if they felt they weren't disrespectful....it was and it was bad in my opinion. But I hope our attitude and fun personality to Prince helped make his day better. We cant wait to go again and will recommend this place so highly. read more

I was visiting from out of town and ate at Taj Grill. It was excellent. I had the Punjabi lemon chicken. It was delicious. The chicken was juicy and tender served in a blend of indian spices with a twist of lemon. The garlic naan had enough garlic but was not overpowering. We also ordered the chicken tikka kebab, basil naaan, lamb curry and lamb biryani. All the dishes we asked for spicy. The food was spicy but you could taste all the ingredients and spices. The chicken was flavorful and moist. The curry and biryani with the naan was on hit. Every dish was wow! Service was wow! Price was fair at 80 for 5 items and 2 persons. Yes, it's absolutely worth it. Our server said the owner is new which surprised me but I haven't been there for about two years. Eat here solo, with your wifey or side piece.
