A wonderful find and that too by surprise! We just saw the place and stopped for a bite. You know sometimes your instincts are just spot on..... The place was clean and quiet, with a few customers . The service was quick and efficient and there was Bollywood remixes playing over the Meir music system! We ordered the Punjabi Dal tadka and they had served it in a small bucket. It was made of Chana daal and to our delight made so well and tasty. We also ordered Mattar Paneer which itself was made very fresh and subtlety different from traditional way, but very tasty nonetheless ! The accompanying whole wheat tandoori parathas too were fresh and delicious. The jeera rice found a fan in my wife though I did not care much for it as I was swooning over the dal / roti combination in my entire meal . First time here while visiting Napa, and had an awesome wholesome experience. I wasn't looking for anything too heavy, so kept it to a few small bites. Inside the interior decor immediately caught my attention. I was also sat at an elegant table with nicely folded napkins. I got a cup of chai, bhel puri, and rasmalai to finish off with. Everything was fabulous, I had no complaints! The wait staff was great. They were polite, timely, and courteous enough to ask me how everything was. I never leave negative comments but I believe this particular incident deserves one. One of the worst experiences I've had. There were literally two tables and two young servers were chatting around with one table while I was waiting to be seated for over 15 minutes. We chose this location because all the other Indian Retaurants in Napa were full. I've been at this location a couple of times and never experienced this. When one of the servers came to seat us, I asked him why it took so long and he gave me a rude look. I've been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years and you do not let potential customers wait that long specially with almost no customers in the the restaurant. Came here very late and they were super accommodating for me and my husband. Ordered the mixed tandoori grill, some garlic, naan bread, and the prawn tikka masala. Food came out right away, everything was so good. my husband had never had Indian food before and he was super impressed. I asked for medium spice on my chica and it was medium spice. That's not always the case with some restaurants. Forgot to take pictures of the mixed grill and Matika, and only managed to snap a couple photos of part of an order of the naanbread. Dined in as a group of 5 pm at around 3 pm on a Thursday so it was pretty empty with two other customers. We ordered plain rice, cheese pizza naan, spinach naan, chicken tikka masala (medium spice), chicken tandoori (medium spice), and Navratan Korma (mild spice). The rice was good with the sizzling chicken tandoori. The chicken tandoori was nicely seasoned with a hint of sweetness. The tikka masala was excellent. The navratan korma, a creamy cashew based dish with mixed vegetables was creamy and had some sweetness. These saucy dishes paired well with the naan. From the three naans ordered, I liked the garlic naan best, then spinach, then cheese. Disappointingly, there was no cheese in the cheese naan my dad and I had. We also had the mango lassi and chai tea. I preferred the chai tea. It was hot and fragrant, well balanced, and not overpowering. The mango lassi didn't taste like it was made fresh- it tasted like it came from a bottled yogurt drink. The food was good and service was a bit slow. read more

Disappointing! Went for my birthday and the experience was not great. Some family members had been there before and this time we all went together, but the pricing and service changed. We were charged for a bowl of rice as if they were 3(and they were not included per dish as they used to do). The restrooms smelled bad all the way outside into the hallway, not sure if they were having plumbing issues but it was disgusting. Taj Grill is hands-down our favorite Indian spot in Napa. As locals, we've been coming here regularly, and the food is always top-notch. Also very clean....they sanitize each table after every guest. The Taj Spicy Naan is incredible -- crispy, buttery, and perfectly spicy. The peas pulao basmati rice is light and fragrant, and the chicken tikka masala is rich, smoky, and absolutely delicious. Catering ordered from Taj Grill for 20 people was easy, was ready on time and well prepared and securely packaged, clearly labeled and in big quantity. We ordered about 4 days before our Saturday evening event, working directly with the owner, Lucky. We had 2 vegetable dishes for 20, 1 butter chicken for 20, and 1 shrimp for 10 and one lamb dish for 10. Rice, 2 different naans, chutneys and papadam for 20. All of this worked out to about $40 per person before tax. It was plenty of food, and could have fed 30! Spice level was mild, and which was spicy enough for the crowd.
