Came here with the folks. Ordered the lamb rogan josh, which was fine, though more buttery than I'm used too. Onion and garlic naan were tasty. Service was not wonderful--there were only two to three occupied tables in the place and yet it took a while to get a to-go box. One staff misdelivered a beer, but seemed unconcerned about it. The big negative is just the overall cleanliness. The carpet is a stained mess, and the dark hallway leading to the bathrooms is ominous. I absolutely love Indian food & I know good Indian food when I taste it. This wasn't good Indian food. I had the shrimp biriyani & paneer tikka masala. The shrimp still had the tails on them. Both dishes tasted like they were made from the box. The biriyani also had huge chunks of unchopped onions in it. They were out of mushrooms so I couldn't order mushroom mattar. The takeout size was also super small. I hated when the Dinner Bell restaurant closed because they were actually good. There needs to be a wider selection of Indian food in Macon because the city is diverse. I choose Indian food mainly because the food still has lots of flavor without using all of salt that is present in a lot of other cuisines (if it is cooked from scratch). After eating this food I did swell because there was a significant amount of salt present in the food. That's also why it wasn't the best I've had. It was hard to taste the ordinary spices because of the salt. Something told me to Uber my food from Cafe Bombay before leaving Atlanta! On the way down to Florida we stopped by to grab some dinner at Taj. Google maps and Yelp guided us through their little smartphone interfaces. However, they screwed up and we ended up in the middle of a subdivision. Turns out it was on the other side of the street... next to America's favorite type of Mart. We were promptly seated and given some dipable thin bread stuff whose name escapes me. The dips were pretty good and the bread stuff was gone before you can recite a Lady GaGa song without laughing out loud. Damn it, what's the name of the bread stuff? Anyway, our dishes came back and they were smothered in cilantro which is as terrible as olive eating Ivan the fourth (wikipedia that!). Being awesome I used my spoon's curve to scoop it up and gently rest it on the side of my plate not to bother the rest of the food. Anyway, when all was said and done, the check came and it was relatively less expensive than we thought. And we ha leftovers too. Yummers. All in all, this is a nice little place that is not too far from the highway with good food and great prices. First off, it's located in a very awkward almost rundown looking area next to a Walmart. It can easily be missed if you don't know where you are going. I bought a $25 certificate from restaurant.com and visited for lunch. At 1:45 I was the only one in the restaurant. They had a buffet up but since I was by myself and had to spend $35 I ordered many items from the menu. They list coke products, sprite, fanta, tea and lemonade on the menu. I first asked for a lemonade. I was told they didn't have lemonade. I then asked for fanta, the server said the fanta "wasn't good" I then ordered a coke and when it came out it tasted like dark brown soda water. I finally asked for a sprite instead and although it tasted a little off it was drinkable. They immediately fill the glasses on the table with water but the glasses looked cloudy therefore I avoided it. I then ordered veggie samosas, fried jalapeños, naan, garlic naan, chicken tikka Marsala, and lamb curry. Everything came out hot. The fried jalapeños are spicy but lacked seasoning. The veggie samosas were very bland. Instead of being filled with chunks of well seasoned potatoes and peas, it tasted and looked like unseasoned mashed potatoes and a few peas. The chicken tikka Marsala and rice was very good, and we'll seasoned. Although at one point it seemed as though I ate a chunk of sea salt from the rice. The curry lamb was also good and well seasoned, no complaints there. My overall review is that it's an ok place if you want some affordable Indian food. There aren't many options here in small town Macon so this will do for now. read more

By far the best indian restaurant in Macon! The curries are fresh and you can tell the paneer is made from scratch. The garlic naan has chunks of raw garlic pressed into the dough and the veg manchurian is a great combo of sweet, sour, and spicy.... great choices for vegetarians and non vegetarians alike. Stopped here while driving back from Orlando to Atlanta. Got stick in traffic for 2 hours otherwise would never have found this gem. Location is in a strip mall with a dollar general and other vacant shops. It's less than a mile from the I475 freeway. We were seated right away. And the menu was explained in detail. We went with paneer items and the chicken sabzi which were recommended by the server. We were not disappointed. Chicken was very well made and the paneer was very tasty. Special mention to the chicken tandoor platter which is a must if you are having a cold indian beer. Please check this out if you are on the road between Atlanta and Orlando. read more

This food is a delicious and mouthwatering cornucopia of exotic spices and flavors. I came yesterday and tried Indian food for the first time and can honestly say that I am in love. I was greeted and sat by Vick. He gave great service both yesterday and today. It was all mouthwatering delicious and he was great company. I told him I couldn't decide between a menu item or the buffet. He walked me over to the buffet and told me the names of all the foods, explained what they are made of and then educated me on how to best eat them for optimal flavorful enjoyment. At the end of the bar is an array of chutneys and sauces. My favorites are the Raita and Tamarind sauces. I love the spicy mint sauce for meats only. The Raita goes well with Naan and meat/vegetables. The tamarind is especially great for the naan. Speaking of naan, it is so delicious. Buttery, airy, flaky and soft goodness all wrapped up into one. You know how you go and get bread and you are looking for butter and honey or other condiments. Sooooooo not necessary with their naan. It is sheer goodness that can stand on its own. Plus, the naan is naanstop when you order the buffet. Just imagine, endless baskets of naan on top of all that goodness. I opted for the buffet to taste a little of everything and decide what I loved. That way, when i'm ready for a menu item, i'll know what I like best. I loved the lentil and potato/carrot curry based spicy soup they had on the bar as well as the sweet and sour chicken, chicken tikka marsala and tandoori chicken. The saffron rice is very nice. The only issue someone may have is the food temperature. On the bar it varies from lukewarm to piping hot but let me tell you the food is so good it doesn't even matter. I'm also guessing that it's done like that on purpose depending on what food is in the steam trays so you can enjoy the flavors better. I came back today, hence the five star rating for two impeccable back to back visits, and this time I ordered Taj's Tandoori Mixed Grill. Since I got to try the buffet yesterday, I knew i'd love everything on the grill. So I got to try everything I love plus others I was curious about like the lamb kebab. The mixed grill is a dry sampler platter of everything. Dry meaning that it's not sauced. Comes out on a piping hot searing skillet with smoke billowing over it. Served with two lemons and surrounded by beautfilly caramelized onions peppers...and some with slight charring. Comes out with a pair of tongues so you don't burn your fingers and the handle of the skillet has a cover reminiscent of an oven mitt on it so you can handle with care. I drank water but waited until I finished my meal. I didn't want to get stuffed like I did yesterday. I still wasn't able to finish it all and had to take my leftovers home. You can't do that with the buffet but you can if you order an entrée from the menu. Vick was very nice and I got to see some of the family members who also own the place as well. They are all very kind people and you'll love it here. If you're leaving Atlanta and passing through...STOP. If you're leaving the south and heading north in Atlanta's direction...STOP! You won't regret it. And ladies, if you're dining alone don't worry. Vick will keep you company and entertain you with education of how they best enjoy the foods and about his life in the restaurant business in America. First start out the meal right and order some bread aka Garlic Naan and ask for a little extra fresh shredded garlic on top! The goat curry is just OK but nothing great and has lots of bones in the dish (fellow yelper mislead me). Now the Chicken Tikka Masala in a creamy tomato curry was really good! Interesting sauce and the mild version does has a little kick, I can only imagine the medium/spicey version! I wanted to try the homemade ice cream (pista kulfi homemade Indian ice cream with pistachio and cardamom) for desert but they were out so I tried the Gulab Jamun. That desert alone should be banned in America for tasting worse than dog crap covered with syrup, don't ask me how I know....just trust me here! So on a side note, GPS is wrong here and it is on a road beside JL's BBQ (again...dog crap but roasted here) and beside Wal-Mart. So,, through Yelp I found this place and I love the Indian food I get in Connecticut and I wasn't sure what to expect here but it was really quite good. If you're going to have a buffet, have a buffet and keep it stocked. We walked in and buffet was 99 percent empty and it was just 1pm on a saturday was hen we walked in. We de aided to order off the menu but the problem we had there was they gathered some of it from the buffet versus cooking it fresh! Plus when we did receive it there was no spice level at all despite the fact that I ordered spice level 5 (medium) and the wifey ordered spicy level 10 (hottest). We had to send both back which took longer. Now once we hot the spice right, both dishes were fabulous and their traditional naan bread, garlic and pepper spicy, was the best I've had. Restaurant was generally clean, but very cluttered. All the light fixtures were dirty, dust, and 50 percent of all the light bulbs were burned out. Not a great place for a first date or squeamish diners. I had marinated lamb in masala over delicious white rice, wife had a chi Ken dish with rice, daughter had chicken w fried dark indian rice. My wife and daughter were seated facing a tv playing indian music videos which they loved, I was seated watching the wallburg remake of planet of the apes......... karma? Maybe. The owner is always super friendly to our family and gives our son a complimentary mango lassi every time we come, just to be nice. The food is amazing - especially the lamb saag! Great reviews, but @ dinner tonight, the menu does not resemble the menu listed on yelp - barely close. Husband ordered Tandoori Grill. Only items available are chicken and shrimp , so gets chicken tandoori instead. 6-7 chicken legs with charred onions and a few chunks of green pepper are on the sizzling platter. Good stuff, but only Legs?? I wanted lamb or chicken madrasi (listed online menu as a specialty but nowhere in restaurant menu). I ordered lamb tikka masala on advice of server. Very tasty with perfect spice (med) for me. Both orders came with rice side, but bread (we ordered naan) is additional charge. Naan is wonderful and worth the nominal charge. Super steamy and tasty samosa app. was good. 2 in order; perfect. Taj beer was a refreshing lager. In summary, the discrepancies btwn online menu and in house restaurant established doubt that we were in the strip mall Yelp eatery; but we both enjoyed our food, and I guess that's what counts. read more

I was really looking forward to finding a good Indian buffet in Macon, but was pretty let down by what was offered during the weekend lunch buffet, as well as the service. The naan was good, but otherwise, the food was pretty bland. The chicken tikka masala (no goat or lamb...just mainly vegetarian dishes) was the most enticing thing at the buffet, but it was pretty bland and watery. The dal and korma were okay, but I only made one trip to the buffet and left a hungry still. the lady who does my eyebrows at priya told me that her sister owns this place. i finally made it here, and was pleasantly surprised. loved seeing an indian family leaving as i came in, and several others came in while we were dining. they have a lunch buffet, apparently, every day, because we were there on sunday, and it was closing down at 3pm. no big deal. we ordered off the menu and had enough food to feed at least 4 people, which meant barely enough for me and my greedy pal! started off with a mango lassi....which was a heavenly mix of tart and sweet. we had jalapeno pakoras, chicken 65, chiken tikka masala, naan, basmati rice and raita. nothing blew me away, but to their credit nothing was swimming in grease and all of the flavors were distinct. the jalapeno pakora's had a nice batter on them, and the peppers inside were still crisp. chicken tikka masala had jumbo hunks of tandoori chicken in them which i thought was maybe a little in house leftovers, but the sauce was good. our chicken 65 was not crisp or really spicy enough, it tasted vaguely chinese, but....there was not a single piece left on the plate, so, i guess there was some amount of satisfaction! everything else was okay...nothing to write home about, but when i am craving indian in macon i won't be sad to roll over here for takeout. service was a little spotty...for some reason there was only one waiter. he did make a valiant attempt to work the entire room, but obviously, it made things a little slow. it was a little gross how long dirty dishes stayed on tables after people left, but eventually another guy came out of the back and tidied up a bit. bottom line, and i hate to be like this, but for macon, where the pickins are slim, this place is cool. if i had options, i'm not so sure how soon i'd return, but for right here, right now, taj will work. read more
