Taka is one of my go-to all-you-can-eat spots in Windsor, especially when I'm going out with friends. They have a wide selection on the AYCE menu, but we usually come here for the steak option, which is consistently satisfying for the price. That said, service can be a bit slow, especially during busy hours or when placing large orders. There have been a few times where not everything we ordered arrived, which can be frustrating when you're trying to maximize the AYCE experience. Overall, this is a great spot if you're coming hungry or need to seriously get your calories in. I have visited this location a few times and the food and service has gone from excellent to fine and most recently Poor! Vegetarian roll options are minimal when I am used to having a minimum of 6 roll options. The cheese wontons were too hard. There was no human contact service. Place your order on a tablet it's dropped at the table and empty plates pulled away. No one checked in to see how things were, if we needed anything that was not on the menu (sweet chilli heat sauce for instance) We were sat at a table right outside the washrooms which is also in front of the bar where the sushi is rolled. This place was the worst "Japanese/Thai" I have ever had. The sushi was inedible and the Pad Thai was RED?! I am allergic to food dye and have never had an issue ordering pad thai up to this point. We called to let them know about our experience and they literally made us drive 20 minutes back to return the food (with bites taken out of it) in order to get a refund. We go here just about every time we are in town and have been going ever since the new owners converted the Montana's steak house into this AYCE iPad place. Go in understanding that this is a high volume operation - which means the food is very fresh and comes out fast. On the whole, I've enjoyed every item I have tried with the exception of the Tempura onion rings which are frozen, breaded, minced onion rings. My family always teases me because I always order a round to see if they have finally replaced them with fresh tempura onions and I'm always disappointed and we puzzle because the other tempura veggies are fresh and DELICIOUS and there are other dishes that service fresh onions. The sushi is fresh, good and lots of varieties to choose from, this alone justifies the price tag per person. If you're not going to eat sushi at this place you are likely not going to get the value for the money. The hot dishes from the grill are all pretty delicious too and I notice items rotate on and off the menu which speaks to seasonality and some creativity on the part of the kitchen staff. I really liked the udon noodles that were on the menu the last time we were there. The servers are really more expeditors than waiters and you do work a little to get someone's attention if you want to order cocktails or something else that cannot be ordered through the iPad (like extra sauce for the tempura shrimp and veggies). Don't be offended if it seems you are throwing them off their rhythm - because frankly you are. This place is a study in efficiency and I'm always amazed that we manage to get everything we order, hot and delicious and usually in record time. I was really pleased to see the place survive the pandemic - they put a lot of effort into making sure everyone feels safe, from plexiglass between tables (which is super nice for creating a peaceful space to dine and I hope it stays) to contact tracing at the height of the transmissions. Two things that make us laugh every time we visit though, and probably just endear this place even more to us, is the fact that the cowboy mural from when this was Montana's is still on the side of the building and the Christmas decorations that Montana must have put up before selling the business have remained up in the corners of the establishment every season since this place was converted - seemingly frozen in time. We're looking forward to taking our Dutch family who are in for a visit to enjoy this experience tonight and you can be sure I'll be checking to see if the tempura onion rings have gotten a much needed upgrade - lol. read more

Went here for lunch. It's a total dump. Absolutely horrible on so many levels. To start the service is terrible and the servers are miserable. We were left standing at the front for 10 minutes waiting to be greeted while server after server walked by and ignored us. It wasn't even busy. Once seated what struck us was that the entire place is really dirty and in need of cleaning. Tables around us remained uncleared for the entire meal and there was food all over the floor, the floors are nasty, the washrooms are nasty and it was clear that it hasn't been vacuumed in there in a long time. We considered leaving at that point but we were all pretty hungry after a long drive so we rolled the dice. The food was not anything special. Run of the mill AYCE sushi menu items made in a rush by a sloppy cook using cooking oil that badly needed to be changed. Much of the fish was borderline not fresh and they forgot several items of our order. When the bill came it was $36.99 per person. When asked why the price was so high, the website says $24.99 for weekend lunch, we were told that it was now dinner pricing. Dinner pricing? It was only 2:34pm! We informed them that we arrived 45 minutes before but they say that it doesn't matter, it only matters if you are still there after 2:30 which is apparently, for the first time ever in AYCE history, when dinner pricing starts. To make matters worse the weekend dinner price is listed on the website as $34.99 but the server didn't care and only said "new pricing" and "you pay now". The place is a rip off, the food is not very good, its filthy inside and the service stinks. It was a huge mistake. We will never be back. read more

For an all you can eat (AYCE) restaurant that's only $20 Canadian dollars, the quality of the food did meet my expectations! I was truly impressed by the variety of options available outside of sushi that was also part of the AYCE menu. There were variety of appetizers, noodle dishes, soups, and even dessert on top of the different types of sushi and hand rolls that were available. You won't have one designated waiter/waitress but instead, you'll order from an iPad and then the food gets delivered to you relatively fast! Don't expect the best service but if you're there to try the different dishes they offer, I would definitely recommend this place as it did meet my expectations for a relatively good deal. read more

Tuesday night, my boyfriend and I came here for dinner. I haven't been to an AYCE sushi restaurant since I move back to Windsor. It was pretty busy on a Tuesday night, but we were seated right away as soon as we walked in. This location used to be the old Montana's BBQ restaurant, and they have the set up pretty spacey inside. We were seated at the back in a booth and immediately given an iPad with no instruction on how to use it but figured it out, and started ordering. Withing minutes of submitting our order, food started gathering at our table. We ordered seaweed salad, Tom Yum soup, sweet potato & mushroom tempura, chicken coconut curry, sushi rolls, avocado, Philadelphia roll, and of course my favourite part, salmon sashimi, which had come out last, in chunks, which was odd. We had ordered a lot of food, which all of it had come and nothing was missed. The servers didn't really talk to you unless you had a question, and there were several holding trays full of different food items for different tables, the item we ordered was placed onto our table and they walked off. Not very personable, but not mean either, more blunt. We asked for our bill via the iPad and was promptly greeted by a server asking us if it was one bill and how we will be paying; it ended up being about $80 for the two of us including tax and tip. The whole experience was fast, your food comes to your table super quick after you order it, except the Sashimi, that apparently takes a bit longer, but it came. My wife and I went here for a date and it will definitely be our one and only visit to the place. While everything was clean and nice, the waiting staff, as mentioned by many other reviewers here, act VERY miserable, simply asking for something seems like you're coming across as a nuisance to them and that's not how you should feel eating at a restaurant. Not to mention when we placed our order on the iPad and they got it wrong 3 times and groaned when we requested our correction. Service needless to say is well below average. Now let's talk about the food which is a whole other issue. The food itself for the most part wasn't bad but the sushi was left to be desired. It was extremely oily and greasy, we both left with stomach aches afterwards due to the amount of grease on the sushi rolls. I had never had sushi like this before, but it was not great. The other options for food were ok, nothing to write home about, just your standard food. Torpedo shrimp was quite good, chicken options were good, same with beef and veggies, and dessert was great. This is what's preventing me from giving this place a 1 star review, there's some redeeming qualities about it, but the sushi and service are just plain horrible. To management, you should really sit down with your waiting staff and teach them how to properly serve customers, cuz the service made us feel very uncomfortable and it is not a good look for your establishment. The Food: The food at this place is a little above average in terms of other all you can eat sushi restaurants in the city. You're pretty safe to order almost anything off the menu, and it'll taste good. The rolls are fresh, and the sashimi tastes fresh most of the time, although I have had a couple instances where it seems a little old. The menu is large (what you would expect from most all you can eat places) and presented to you on an iPad so you don't have to worry about hailing down servers when you have another list for them. Service: Honestly the food is delivered quickly. As other reviews have stated, most of the servers seem pretty standoffish but you don't really need to interact with them anyway, because it's all ordered through the provided iPad. Price: Pretty average price for what you pay. If two people go out for all you can eat you'll probably pay around 60-70 bucks. Atmosphere: The building used to be a steakhouse, and that steakhouse closed around Christmas time. When Taka sushi opened, they didn't take any of the decorations down or anything so there are Christmas trees and snowmen littering the rafters year round! DO NOT GO HERE! Honestly, it was one of the worst experiences at an AYCE. The WHITE tuna was BROWN! When brought to attention to our server, they said that it's fine and they never take your empty dishes away. The sushi tasted pre-made, and "deep fried crunchy rolls" were soggy! The menu was difficult to understand, with the Lunch and Dinner menu options, so beware they will try to over charge you. They stated that my 2 year old was 3 so they could charge me for her plate as well, without asking her age. The place felt crowded and tight, and dark. A decent place for AYCE sushi in Windsor. It takes a while to be seated as it happened to me a few times where the servers see you standing at the entrance but ignore that they saw you. There's a large selection of food items and you order on an iPad which makes it easy. The portions are large, especially the noodles, curry, and wok items. The veggie egg noodle stir fry however, was literally a plate of noodles with 2 pieces of broccoli and a few carrot and onion slices. The rolls are okay. The rice is a bit soggy but the filling inside is not bad. The sushi is a bit better. Their avocado salad and the salmon tataki salad are pretty good. As for soups, I enjoyed the corn and chicken soup as well as the tom yum soup as they give a lot of tomatoes, basil, and mushrooms. They are very generous with the sashimi as the slices are really thick. However, taste-wise, I prefer a thinner cut sashimi. I have always been a supporter of this place as it was one of my favourite AYCE sushi place in Windsor, aside from Hoi. Tonight changed that for me. Out of the 15-20 times I've been here, tonight will by my last visit ever. Our server was miserable (servers are always meh here, but this guy was terrible). We ordered sashimi. They forgot our sashimi. We had to re-order. We were then served frozen solid sashimi. And the replacement plate was STILL frozen. And then our server threw our receipt on the table when the card processed. I was actually shocked because we were being polite & kind to him. The only good server here is the gentleman that always smiles. Probably early thirties. Very short hair, probably buzzed. I'm sure you'll see and recognize him if you've been there. "We ordered an hour ago. Where is our food." -"Oh sometimes the iPad orders don't go through. Just order again." Yeah, no. After losing all or most of our orders three times, the manager argued with us that we shouldn't have ordered all sushi rolls. "If you'd ordered something else, it would have come out." Silly me for ordering sushi at a sushi restaurant. I have NEVER encountered such horrible service at a restaurant. I don't like complaining to management, but when I do, I expect the manager to take some responsibility and not argue incessantly that it was somehow my fault. Many other tables near us were also complaining before we left. We got 15% off and an outlandish kitchen nightmare story to tell for our troubles. I'd like to open with one thing: Taka is an AYCE place. We need to judge it accordingly. No AYCE place is ever going to have the most immaculate of ingredients. It serves moderate quality food at a quick pace and you know what, Taka does this. I also like they have a very wide variety of menu options--a lot of which are vegetarian. So there's something for everyone. Does the food always come out the way it's depicted in the images? No. But it gets to your table quick. Very minimal wait times which is probably due to the electronic ordering system. That's one edge Taka has over competitors and something that I think is extremely valuable. I cannot stress how much I hate having to wait for a server to get back to my table in order to place an order. And on the flip side, with the iPad system, I can actually keep track of what I ordered. Not try to guess how many dishes I have left to stuff down my gullet 3 orders in. Give Taka a chance. I went there again last night with another friend and it wasn't as good as the previous time I went for lunch. The appearance of the food wasn't quite there. One of my items had avocado n u cud see a small piece of avocado smeared on the corner of t plate. I guess you could say the "presentation" wasn't there. I ordered mushroom tempera about 3 times and the last time I finally got the sauce to go with it. Somehow, I did not see the problems mentioned in previous negative reviews, no garbage at the front door. Landscape was well maintained. We came here for food, not entertainment. Food - they were ranging from acceptable to good. First of all, I did not order any Thai food and stir-fry food. Most of my orders were appetizers and sushi items. Expensive items like tuna and octopus sushi are in small pieces and less expensive like rolls are bigger. Beef and chicken kabobs were good, they are most likely Japanese or Chinese style kabobs , small in size with less complex spices. Sushi were okay, and perhaps above average in Windsor. Price - I think it was something like $25 per person, including unlimited soft-drink or tea. In an era where a sit down restaurant burger, fries and coke set you back close to $20. $25 all you can eat sushi is a very good deal. I have eaten at MANY sushi restaurants and I find that they get a little excessive with the sauces on the sushi at Taka. If that's you're thing, then that should be fine. I believe this place used to be an old montanas and they took advantage of the previous renovations. I guess it really worked out for them. The hot items are fantastic but the sushi and sashimi is not as good as Tenko accross the street. Which is funny because Tenko has great sushi but not as good hot items. If both could be combined that would be awesome. The iPad ordering system is a great idea. No waiting for a server to pick up your slips! Wait times for the food were not nearly as long as other AYCE sushi places and I think that can be attributed to the iPads. You can even order your drink refills using the iPad! No waiting for someone to come around. The portion sizes per order were surprisingly large for items with no count number. We ordered 3 General Tao thinking it would be three little bowls like most places but it wasn't. We got the equivalent to small cereal bowls. The selection of rolls and sashimi is on par with everywhere else. If your going to have the iPads though please use pictures that show the products better. It was difficult to identify what we were getting in specialty rolls. The prices were about the same as everywhere else as well. $17 for lunch and $26 for dinner. Tried this for the first time today! I really enjoyed it a lot - I've read some reviews about the staff and the amount of waiting done, but truthfully, we had none of that. It might have been that we went on a Sunday night but it wasn't busy at all. The serves were very polite and we had food come to our table very quickly. We didn't get most of what we ordered a couple of times, but that happens with every single sushi restaurant I've ever been to. The only gripe I have with Taka is the price for all you can eat; it's bloody expensive. It was $29.67 CAD which is a lot for all you can eat; Hoi charges only $22.45. Would I eat there again? Sincerely, I probably would but it'd be for lunch only. I like the vast variety of food they have, while still being a sushi place. All in all, it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. SO thankful we decided to try it for ourselves It is EXCELLENT .......... food was DELICIOUS - Seniors Rates were a bonus Had the most delightful young Chinese girl serve us, Pekti Sp? - extremely patient with us explaining how to order and use the IPAD - came back to check if we were ok or needed more help. Ok ready for the ride of your life. Drove in from Toronto to have lunch with my wife's mom for her b-day. Get there, start the order. Given that it's all you can eat, I know what I'm getting into. That being said this one takes the cake. Turns out that they had NO water on including HOT. They avoid the question by pretending not to speak English and when asked how they were cleaning things they said "in a bucket" I asked how they were washing they're hands and they replied "with hand sanitizer". I stopped eating right away and my wife (who doesn't like confrontation) paid. Once I realized that she paid, I asked to speak to the owner and asked for my money back. He inturn called the police on my because I demanded it. I inturn called the health inspector who showed up almost IMMEDIATELY and shut the place down. Turns out that the place hadn't had hot water for DAYS! These people are dishonest and one day they'll find themselves in a much worse situation with a food poisoning and a lawsuit. I then ordered a Pepsi- it finally came about 3/4 of the way into our dinner. The food was okay, (bland) but I would have liked some hot chillI garlic sauce, some extra napkins, friendly service. This is restaurant is nothing but utter disappointment. I don't know where to start. Let's start with the poor standards of food hygiene. My first order of Mango salad had a coarse black hair 2 inches long. NONE of the waitresses had their hair tied-back. Also, we couldn't properly communicate with any of the servers DUE TO LANGUAGE BARRIER. They need to hire someone that can speak english! To add to this, the servers had TERRIBLE ATTITUDE. The food was ok, the service was poorer than expected. We ordered beers when we first sat down which were never brought to us. We received waters which were never later refilled. The servers always seem unenthused. Our server, Yana, never checked up on us. She seemed more concerned about rushing our meal. At one point, we watched her drop a bottle of soy sauce which rolled along the floor and spilt everywhere. Which she then picked up and without attempting to clean the bottle, placed it back on a table for the next customers to use. The food portions were much smaller than they usually are at this particular restaurant and the tempura didn't come with the dipping sauce usually provided. There are NO words to describe how ANGRY I am after leaving this restaurant. NO words. Service was SO horrible. I don't know where to begin. If you went to this restaurant on Monday night, December 21, 2015 from 6PM to ~9PM you know what I'm talking about - SLOW SERVICE, MEDIOCRE FOOD, AND SLOW SERVICE. I waited THREE (3) HOURS FOR EVERYTHING TO ARRIVE and they were still forgetting sushi rolls that we entered MULTIPLE TIMES into their iPad system. SO ridiculous. What's the point of having these iPads if it can't work properly to forward the orders?! Half the people in the restaurant kept walking up to the servers complaining over and over about the slow service and ended up leaving early. HORRIBLE. I left the restaurant hungry still. Sushi was okay, their appetizers were not good (everything came out luke warm and not hot and fresh), I thought the miso soup was going to be decent but it ended up being so bland I was pretty much drinking hot water with white powder sprinkled on top. Fried rice was SO disgusting. Management doesn't know how to run the restaurant properly. I've never been SO stress and SO angry about service. EVER. (Honestly I think the amount of seating/space is WAY too big for an all you can eat sushi restaurant, unless they're willing to triple the size of the sushi bar/kitchen and the number of chefs to meet demand). PLEASE take my advice. Please do yourself a favour and spend your $25 at other AYCE sushi restaurants such as across the street Tenko Sushi. PLEASE. read more
