    A15. Golden Bags (5)

Service was quick, our waitress was kind. The drinks were good and decently priced. It was a nice cozy restaurant that looked like it could easily become a regular stop when we don't feel like making dinner. That said, the food was disappointing. The Crab Rangoons (golden bags) - I was tasting more of the breading than the crab and cream cheese. Also, the filling was...weird? It didn't taste like what I'm used to having for sure. The pad cashew - flavorless. I'm so sad to say but it generally tasted like chicken cashews and veggies in brown salted water. The drunken noodles - ok. They were fine. Nothing amazing, but the best part of what we ordered. Nothing wrong with them exactly, but I've just had better before. Sad to say I didn't really enjoy the meal and probably won't be back. There were a lot of people dining in and ordering pickup, so I don't know if I just ordered bad dishes or what. But it looks like this is a family run business and I hope they continue to succeed! It just wasn't for me.

Truly excellent Thai food in a spacious atmosphere with cool Thailand decorations plus great service and also very convenient WiFi (you just scan the QR code and it automatically connects). Got the pad thai curry noodle and also a dessert called Kow Tum Mud that is sweet red bean and bananas wrapped in rice rolls. Highly recommended!

I stopped in on a cold Monday night (yes they're opened on Mondays) after yoga. I just wanted a Tom Yum soup. The broth was vibrant, juicy and everything you expect in Thai. I had hot sake, but only because they were out of the Thai iced tea. The tea they sell is bottled and that turned me off. Plus they were out, which explains the 1 star deduction. I was surprised to walk in to a full bar and that had me wondering. Does this place get interesting on a Friday night? I imagine old Detroit - the folks who have lived in the neighborhood for generations (mostly black), meets the hipsters who moved in down the street in the last decade. Do they commingle here? I saw said hipsters leaving with carry out on my way in. Do they just dip in and scurry out? I wonder. Either way, the owners are a great, hardworking family who deserve your business. Give them a try. Sit at a booth. Stay a while.

I am so happy I finally got to dine in! Started with an order of the most crispy and delicious spring rolls. The table has chili sauce which went perfectly with the sweet sauce. For the main course I had the veggie curry which comes with tofu. So full of vegetables and ordered med spicy still made me sweat. It's a good thing our friendly server hooked us up with a carafe of water. Love the old school dark vibe. Looking forward to returning.

I have been searching Metro Detroit for my favorite Thai restaurant and I finally found it in Bai Mai Thai! The restaurant is in a strip mall on Lafayette - so convenient and free parking! It has a fun vibe, with ample seating and also a bar if you are so inclined. We ordered soup, spring rolls and two entrees. Our food was brought promptly by our friendly server and it was just perfect. We ordered our food medium spice and I will say it was perfect for our tastes, but if you shy away from heat I would order it mild. The soup was the best Tom Yum I have ever had in Detroit and both our dishes were fantastic. Our friends also really enjoyed their meals so we had 4 thumbs up from our table of four. My only problem is that they are so far away from me that I can't order carryout every week. When I am in the area I plan on going back. Sooo good!

Their sign is easy to see as you drive by, but my friend did give me a heads up that their door was not obvious. You need to walk through a fence and then open a non deacript door. The artwork outside is awesome! When we walked in we received a friendly greeting and were quickly shown to our seats. We had made a reservation ahead of time and there was no delay to seat us upon our arrival. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders right away. I appreciated that they had multiple non alcoholic drinks and at a fair price. I started with the Thai Iced tea which was delicious, but I would have loved a glass 2x the size! We ordered multiple dishes to share amongst us. I did ask the server how many dishes they recommended that we order as I wasn't sure of the size. The items are brought out as they are made, so we had food being dropped off to is at random intervals. The only slight issue we experienced was when someone else tried to bring a plate of squid to our table. We let them know that we had not ordered it. They then went and talked to our server, who brought the squid back to our table. We also let them know that we had not ordered that dish. Our server did bring back our order slip and looked it over, and I believe at that point they realized that we really had not ordered that dish and just weren't rejecting it. I am not sure if it had been written wrong, communicated to the kitchen wrong, or what but we did have to state multiple times that we had not ordered it. The rest of our dishes arrived correctly. The crispy chive cakes were great, and the sticky spare ribs were AMAZING. The caramel glaze on the outside of the ribs was so good, and they were tender as well. The outside was super crispy. I would absolutely ordered these again. I would say that both of those dishes were only for 2 people. The sticky rice and jasmine rice were as to be expected, and I personally felt that the papaya salad was not as good as others I have had. The chilli noodles had an amazing broth and I would also recommend. Overall, I did enjoy our dinner but I am not sure that I would go out of my way to return. I am rounding up to 4 stars based on the sticly ribs alone, otherwise a 3.5 would be more fair. I have been hearing about Takoi for years, so maybe my epxections were too high but I was expecting a bit more.

To start, we got moo krob (deep fried pork belly) which is the Thai version of Chinese siu yook. I have to say, I like siu yook so much more - it's a lot more flavorful having been marinated with five spice and served with delicious sweet hoisin sauce for dipping. The pork here was bland and the sauce (fish sauce based) was pretty one note. For my entree, I got rad na (rice noodles with gravy, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and choice of meat - I got pork) which was one of the best I've ever had! They used fresh rice noodles and sautéed it properly to give it the "wok hei" (wok-seared flavor). The gravy was deep and flavorful and the portion size was very good. If everything else was as good as my entree, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars. Unfortunately, my mom's Kao mun gai (steamed chicken with rice and "special sauce") was awful. She asked if the dish had any spice because she can't do spicy, and the server said no, so she decided she'd try it. The chicken was way overcooked and dry, with no flavor at all. The sauce, the only thing providing flavor and moisture, was spicy so that she couldn't eat it. We asked if there was any sauce she could get instead that wasn't spicy, and they said no, but they can give us a bottle of soy sauce. So my mom used some of that, and also took some of my rad na gravy. But because the chicken was so dry and bland, it was beyond saving. My dad got the Thai basil fried rice, mild spice. It was definitely hotter than other Thai restaurants' mild, and my dad said the spice overwhelmed the other flavors. I tried some of it and it was not bad, but nothing remarkable. They told us that traditionally, it's served with the rice on the side, which was strange to me because then it's not fried rice - it's sautéed meat and veggies with rice on the side. I am curious about how some of the other dishes taste here, but it's a shame that 3/4 of the things we ordered were mediocre to downright bad. While I enjoyed my entree, I felt bad my parents didn't enjoy their food.

Thai-Osha -- Where Laughter, Love, and Crab Rangoons Fill Your Soul…read more There are some places that feed more than just your appetite -- they feed your spirit. And Thai-Osha is one of those rare gems. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I wasn't just walking into another Thai restaurant. I was walking into someone's heart and soul. Someone's home. The space is cozy, welcoming, decorated in beautiful Thai decor, and intimate -- like a little sanctuary where you immediately feel at ease and ready for home cooking. But the real magic? That comes from the owner. Let me tell you about him. He greeted me like an old friend -- with the kind of warmth and joy that you can't fake. So Funny, charming, down-to-earth, and so full of light... he has this way of making you feel like you've known him forever. It's like you're not just a customer -- you're family. The kind of energy he brings is rare. You can feel it in the way he laughs, the way he connects, the way he sees people. His spirit is so vibrant and kind, it honestly feels contagious. I left with a full stomach and full heart and a smile I couldn't wipe off my face. That's the kind of business you want to support -- one that feels built on love. The service? Fast. Friendly. The whole staff radiates the same positive energy as the owner -- everyone just seems genuinely happy to be there, and that joy spills over to the customers. You don't feel like you're just being served -- you feel like you're being welcomed. And don't even get me started on the food. Every dish was an experience. The flavors? Out of this world. Fresh, authentic, deeply comforting -- the kind of food that takes you places and lingers in your memory. The crab rangoons? I'm still dreaming about them. I could have ate them all day. Home Made, Creamy, perfectly made -- I nearly cried. Everything we ordered was beyond amazing, and I have no doubt that anything you choose from that menu will blow you away. But honestly? Even if you didn't come for the food (though you absolutely should), come to meet and talk to him. Come meet the kind, hilarious, big-hearted owner who reminds you that people like him still exist in the world -- people who lead with love, who make strangers feel like friends, and who carry a light that lifts others just by being near them. In a world that feels fast, disconnected, and overstimulated -- Thai-Osha is a breath of fresh air. It's cozy. It's sincere. It's the kind of place you want to keep coming back to. You're truly missing out on something special -- the kind of special that fills both your stomach and your soul. Let's keep celebrating places like this -- the ones that remind us what kindness tastes like.

The chef came out, seated me and asked for my order. I went with my 2nd choice, F2 - Kow Pad Kra Praow with chicken ($13 @ lunch). This is a FRIED RICE dish. The dining area ambiance is rather spartan, and the (C)RAP MUSIC being played did not contribute to the Thai dining experience at all. My order came back QUICK and HOT. My initial reaction was that it just looked like a BIG PLATE of fried rice. Oh well, I tucked in, and the flavor was OK. A FEW pieces of white meat chicken, peppers and carrot slices were the only identifiable items in this BIG PLATE of fried rice. It was EDIBLE and FILLING, but that was all. NOTHING SPECIAL and certainly not the WOW factor I had expected from the glowing reviews. Total was $13.73 after tax.
