This is my go-to spot for Thai food. I love their Gaeng Gai with chicken; it's a curry chicken with coconut sauce dish. It comes with a side of white rice. I did try something new last time and ordered the spring rolls with chicken. They were surprisingly delicious with its fresh ingredients. The service is good, but can be a little slow at times. I ordered 2 soups at Bai Mai Thai on 8-6-26 the Tom yum with crab and the Tom Kha with crab and mild spice. The soups were super salty and though it was a small order it hardly had any of the vegetables and 2 lumps of crab in it. ! I mean I literally poured a 10 fl oz bottle into one of the soups and it was still salty. I'm sad to say I encouraged my best friend to order as well seeing as though I had the same 2 soups last week and the Tom Kha was wonderful. She had hers delivered to her shortly after I went to get mine and said she only ate a spoonful and her mouth balled up from the salt. Not to mention her foot ended up swelling a short time later! I attempted to call and make contact with Bai Mai Thai, but they have an automated AI service set up that does not let you physically get through to talking to an actual person. They will text you a phone number to text your complaint or to call, but when you attempt to text there is no response. And when you call, it says that the number isn't accepting calls. This is very problematic and unprofessional from a business. This is not my first time having an issue with food that I've gotten from there, but it will be my last unless I'm dining in. I feel this is an unscrupulous way to do business. If you're not dining in, where they can immediately address any issue there may be with the quality of the food then I would suggest avoiding what could be a potential headache or in this case with the excess of salt... a health problem. read more

My coworkers and I enjoyed a lively lunch. We all chose different menu items. Everybody was pleased. I had the garlic fried rice with shrimp. My friend had the pineapple fried rice. Both were really tasty. We also ordered the shrimp boats and dumplings. We didn't notice that much of a difference im the flavor of them, but they were tasty. The coconut ice cream was heavenly. I would go back just for that. The next time I go downtown Detroit, I'll stop by for ice cream on my way to Bell lsle for my treat The waitress was super friendly and very accommodating. She handled the entire dining room and the bar by herself--henomenal service. Discovered Bai Mai Thai while visiting Detroit recently, and was quite delighted by it. I didn't eat in the restaurant itself at any point, so I can't speak to the level of service when dining in, but I will say that the place can be quite busy for dinner (especially over the weekend) and take a while to get your takeout order (I've picked up takeout myself, as well as ordered from DoorDash). That said, the portions are HUGE (easily could have been 2-3 meals worth) and delicious. My main regret, if you can call it that... perhaps it was just an unfortunate circumstance, during my stay in Detroit was that the hotel room I was staying in didn't have a microwave, so I ended up with a lot of leftovers that I didn't get to fully enjoy. *sad face* (And by no means is that the fault of the restaurant, obviously. I'm mainly saying that the food is so good, even as leftovers, that I'm bummed to not have been able to enjoy it all because they give you SO FREAKIN' MUCH.) Side note: I asked for extra crushed peanuts on my pad thai order that I ordered for takeout one night and they COVERED it with peanuts. Service was quick, our waitress was kind. The drinks were good and decently priced. It was a nice cozy restaurant that looked like it could easily become a regular stop when we don't feel like making dinner. That said, the food was disappointing. The Crab Rangoons (golden bags) - I was tasting more of the breading than the crab and cream cheese. Also, the filling was...weird? It didn't taste like what I'm used to having for sure. The pad cashew - flavorless. I'm so sad to say but it generally tasted like chicken cashews and veggies in brown salted water. The drunken noodles - ok. They were fine. Nothing amazing, but the best part of what we ordered. Nothing wrong with them exactly, but I've just had better before. Sad to say I didn't really enjoy the meal and probably won't be back. There were a lot of people dining in and ordering pickup, so I don't know if I just ordered bad dishes or what. But it looks like this is a family run business and I hope they continue to succeed! Ambiance GREAT. Food is good . SERVICE was not . The Lady at the Bar where you pick up the To Go orders was Rude AF . Not just to me but to others that came in . My 1st time encountering this type of treatment at an Asian Restaurant so I was a bit shocked . Maybe July 29th 2026 at 3pm was not a good time for her . I won't go back there so I'll never know. I stopped in on a cold Monday night (yes they're opened on Mondays) after yoga. I just wanted a Tom Yum soup. The broth was vibrant, juicy and everything you expect in Thai. I had hot sake, but only because they were out of the Thai iced tea. The tea they sell is bottled and that turned me off. Plus they were out, which explains the 1 star deduction. I was surprised to walk in to a full bar and that had me wondering. Does this place get interesting on a Friday night? I imagine old Detroit - the folks who have lived in the neighborhood for generations (mostly black), meets the hipsters who moved in down the street in the last decade. Do they commingle here? I am so happy I finally got to dine in! Started with an order of the most crispy and delicious spring rolls. The table has chili sauce which went perfectly with the sweet sauce. For the main course I had the veggie curry which comes with tofu. So full of vegetables and ordered med spicy still made me sweat. I have been searching Metro Detroit for my favorite Thai restaurant and I finally found it in Bai Mai Thai! The restaurant is in a strip mall on Lafayette - so convenient and free parking! It has a fun vibe, with ample seating and also a bar if you are so inclined. We ordered soup, spring rolls and two entrees. Our food was brought promptly by our friendly server and it was just perfect. We ordered our food medium spice and I will say it was perfect for our tastes, but if you shy away from heat I would order it mild. The soup was the best Tom Yum I have ever had in Detroit and both our dishes were fantastic. Our friends also really enjoyed their meals so we had 4 thumbs up from our table of four. I've been loyal to this restaurant for 11 years -- the food is fantastic and the longtime waitress knows my order by heart. However, the customer service has gone downhill. You can't even call and speak to a human anymore. Instead, you're forced to place orders through an AI bot, and when I did, the restaurant had no record of my order after I drove 30 minutes to get it. The customer base has grown, but the staffing hasn't kept up. One amazing waitress cannot carry the entire restaurant and its takeout operation alone. If management wants to keep loyal customers, they need to invest in more staff and better service systems. read more

Went looking for a local Detroit Thai restaurant from work today for lunch and wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Coconut Fried Rice with chicken and medium plus spice. Portion was huge, price was great, and flavors were fantastic. Coconut is prevalent flavor with loads of chicken and two meals worth for sure. Heat was perfect if you like some spice without having your face blown off. Picture doesn't do it justice to see how much you get and just how flavorful this plate is. Basil Fried Rice with Pork, medium spice. I also ordered the A15. Golden Bag, which is just crab rangoon, to share with my team. When I first opened the container I was impressed at the large portion with enough rice to feed 2-3 people. Unfortunately, my optimism was dampened after several bites. They are very stingy with meat, vegetable, and herbs. Maybe one basil leaf at most was used in this entire dish. I'm guessing half an egg was used. I could count on one hand the number of pork slices. There were no vegetables. Maybe two small slices of green pepper. What looks like a good deal is a rip-off once you realize that you're paying $10.25 for just rice. I couldn't eat even one-fifth of my meal. The crab rangoon pieces were small. You will find better at Panda Express. If you prefer quantity over quality, Bai Mai Thai is your place. If you expect a reasonable quantity of protein, vegetables, and fresh herbs, you will be disappointed. read more

Don't bother with the curry puffs (especially with chicken, you'll need a microscope to find the minuscule amount of chicken they trickle in there). I called and she said she would give me some extra sauce when I explained I'm not driving back 30 minutes for extra sauce she said I'll give you 15% off your next order, what?
