Went to Takara for Mothers Day.... Bad Move. Service was bad, had to wait 10 minutes for our drinks to come to the table. And they were not even busy, only 1 other table had people. The chef was TERRIBLE, burned a lot of our rice, noodles, shrimp and did not have his knife skills down, meat was cut all different sizes so some pieces of filet & chicken were not cooked and others overdone. Forks are placed on the dish and while I had my head turned starting putting food right on the top of the fork, I had to dig it out. Dishes were stacked on the table, no one seemed to think that maybe they should collect the soup & salad bowls, Or ask if we wanted refills on our drinks. Take home boxes were delivered before we were even done eating and then the bill came and we were not asked if we wanted anything else. $185.00 later. Tip was added on the bill when I gave the money the waitress immediately came back and said "can I keep the change." I lost it. NO you do not even deserve the 18% as it is.Bring me back my change NOW. Will never go again!!!!!!!! read more

Have been here a few times and have never really been satisfied but this time was absolutely horrible. Me and and boyfriend came here for our anniversary. First off the hostess saw us walk in and then turned around and started making drinks at the bar. We waited 10 minutes for her to come back. Mind you we are the only people there. We should have left then. But we stayed and got habachi. Literally everything I ate tasted like miso soup. There was tofu in my food and there has never been tofu in it before. And there where black knats everywhere. read more

I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant before. The wrong order was brought to me, they forgot my drinks, forgot the sauce I asked for and when the food came out, I didn't like it and they refused to replace it with something else. We went on a Saturday night. They weren't that busy but the waitress seemed stressed and confused most of the time. It took almost 20 minutes to get a beer and a water. After that she said she would be back for our food order. That was another 20 or so minutes. Soup and salad came out fast but the main course took longer. They brought out my girlfriends food first which wasn't warm and way over cooked for the shrimp, steak, rice and noodles. Then my came out 10 minutes later. Overall wasn't the best experience I had at a restaurant. Should've went to Boston Market instead. read more

Good sushi, soup and salad. Bad seafood at the hibachi table. Hibachi food should be more flavorful...very bland.

We will NEVER return here. We have been here several times as my kids like Japanese hibachi. I made reservations for my sons birthday. We arrived promptly at 7pm to an empty waiting area. The bartender was standing behind the hostess station and proceeded to completely ignore us. No greeting, no eye contact, no "someone will be right with you". This went on for a few minutes when a waiter came to the hostess station to close out a check. Again, no greeting, no nothing. Still we are in the waiting area and the bartender is continuing to purposely ignore us. There was no one else in the room and he proceeded to make no attempt to greet us. Then, a person, presumably the hostess walks in carrying a load of menus. Again, no greeting. She is followed by who I believe is the manager. He finally greets us and notes we are a party of five. He then tells us the wait is 15-20 minutes. I correct him and say that we have reservations. He speaks to the hostess who is scowling at us the whole time. They converse amongst themselves and relay no information to us. The manager says, "the wait is if you were walk in". They had not asked us if we had reservations. The hostesses only comment was "you're the only 7pm reservation". Huh? What kind of response is this? The whole experience left me befuddled and confused. We left without another word. If the front of the house is this bad, what's going on behind the closed doors of the kitchen? read more

We've eaten at Takara several times over the past year. I've explained that I am Gluten Intolerant and the waiters seemed to know what foods to recommend and my dinners were great. I've even recommended Takara to friends who are gluten intolerant or have Celiac. Last night our waitress seemed to think that as long as she served a special soy sauce everything on the menu was gluten free! I politely explained that was incorrect and she called over someone whom I assume was the manager. He inpatiently offered a couple suggestions assuring me there would be no gluten. Wrong! The sauce definitely had gluten in it and I was sick most of the night. If you are gluten intolerant, stay away from this restaurant. read more

Not impressed. I have had dinner inside and had the chicken and shrimp teppanyaki. It was very average. Soup is broth with a few slices of green onion and a couple small pieces of mushroom. "Salad" was iceberg lettuce with a few strands of purple cabbage with ginger dressing. Thought I would try it again in case it was a one time issue so I ordered it to go. I ordered teriyaki chicken and chicken udon noodles. Was told 15 minutes so I arrived in 15 minutes. They had 3 cars outside. I went in and was told they would be with me soon. About 5 minutes later, they came back and said it would be ready soon. I waited another 15 minutes and out they came with the food. I got home and the teriyaki chicken had no teriyaki sauce on the chicken that was placed on the vegetables. The little bit of sauce there was at the bottom was basically water and soy sauce. Literally hardly any flavor other than pan seared chicken and vegetables. The chicken udon noodles were also extremely bland and barely any chicken in the dish. Feel free to give it a try but I am done with this place. read more

We had heard good things about this place so we opted to check it out. We sat in a standard dining area as we were there for sushi since our favorite sushi joint isn't open on Sundays. Our food came out fairly quickly but the quality was atrocious. The salmon on their single pieces was off, the volcano roll was terrible, the rice was undercooked on all of the sushi, the soup tasted like dishwater. When asked about boxes we informed our wait staff that we wouldn't need a box because the quality of our sushi was sub par at best. Instead of attempting to remedy this, she just said, ooh, here's your check, and wandered off. This place will no longer get my business. Bad sushi, bland appetizers, and a staff that doesn't seem to care. If I could I would rate this place even lower. There are far superior sushi joints in this town. I've never before has to walk away from sushi because of the quality and I've eaten publix sushi. You've been warned, stay away from this place. read more

What a nightmare! We never got to eat so I can't tell you if the food was any good or not... Showed up with a call ahead to see if they could accommodate a large group of 13 without a reservation and we were told they don't take reservations (which we later found out to be untrue).. but were told they could seat us so come on in. Unfortunately we had 15 so we had to wait "20 minutes" for a different Hibachi table, which was fine since we did just show up.. well that 20 minutes was more like an hour.. During that time we decided to order drinks at the bar, but that took almost 30 minutes because the host was also tending bar.. (should have left then) The group that was at the table that we were going to be seated at were just hanging out after they paid their bill. After telling the host we were going to leave, he finally went to those folks and told them he had a group waiting for their table. After being sat, we gave the waiter our drink order.. which never came! Waited 30 minutes at the table.. some of our party started to leave.. I went to the bar to find our drinks to see them sitting on a tray.. half made.. with the host working on them.. told him that some of our party were tired of waiting and were leaving.. and he said "I see the waiter at your table now".. I will have the drinks there in a minute. The waiter had delivered water to our table and left.. and still did not take our food order. Went back to the bar to find the waiter at the bar, talking to the bartender/host and I told them more of our party was leaving and the waiter said "I'm only one person".. was not sure what to say to that.. so I went back to the table and the waiter came back (still no drinks)..and started to take our food order. One of the ladies in our party asked how long it would take for the chef to come to our table and the waiter looked over at the next table and said.. "I don't know, when he's done over there".. so she asked "do you mean you only have one Hibachi chef working tonight and he said "Yes".. so we said "Cancel our drink order" and left! I went home but most of the rest of our party went to Kata on 14th Avenue and were served immediately. Shame on you Takara for letting a group of 15 hungry (and thirsty) people leave without even serving them one drink! read more

We came on a Sunday night,and our wait was way too long. We had a 7:30 reservation and did not get seated until 8 o'clock. When the chef finally came to the table at 9 o'clock. He had an arrogant attitude and made everyone in our party feel uncomfortable with the comments he made throughout the dinner. I feel that a dinner that cost around $180 should be an enjoyable experience. There are many wonderful restaurants in this area that would appreciate the business. I will never return to this restaurant! read more

We took our children and grandchild (3 yrs.old) to dinner on 2/24. We had a great experience. the food was good from sushi appetizers to combination entrees. Very large portions were enough to take quite a bit home. The waiter and chef were absolutely terrific with our granddaughter. Our son said it was his best experience at a Japanese steakhouse and he is a world traveler for his job. read more

Delicious teppanyaki dinner! I've wanted to try Takara for a while now and I'm glad I did. I've been to restruants like this before and Takara is just...so good! Takara is great for dates or groups of people. I started with Tsingtao beer and sushi. The spicy crunchy salmon roll was really good. Then I had a hello tuna roll which consisted of tempura shrimp and avocado topped with spicy tuna, avocado, tempura flakes, masago, scallion, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. As for the teppanyaki, it was very entertaining. It started with mushroom broth soup and salad with ginger dressing. Then we each got the brown ginger dipping sauce and the magical white sauce. The chef performed the usual tricks like egg spinning and an onion volcano which is always fun to watch. This was followed by squirts of Sake from the squirt bottle across the table to our mouths for me and a few adults and squirts of water for the kids. Next he cooked and served rice which was very good with a nice amount of soy sauce. Then we were tossed pieces of zucchini to catch with our mouths the vegetables were cooked just right. The noodles were great as well and the meats were delicious. I ordered the combo of chicken and Salmon. The chicken was tender and juicy and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Between the rice, noodles, vegetables, and meat I am stuffed and look forward to leftovers for lunch. Definitely will be back. read more
