When the temperature suddenly dipped in November, my rental car's tire pressure monitoring system let me know that it was time to add air to my tires. I drove around with the warning light on for a number of days, as I did not consider it to be an emergency. Finally, on a cold Sunday morning, I decided to tackle what I thought would be a straightforward, albeit undesirable chore; instead, I found myself driving all over Greensboro in search of an operational air pump. Not all the gas stations that I drove by maintained an air pump, but, consistently, at the ones that did, it was out of service. Some were marked as such and others were not, leaving it to the hapless driver to figure it out on their own. At one such station, thinking that the pump was functioning, I connected the tire chuck to the valve, believing that I was adding air; there was no gauge so I left the two connected for what I thought was a reasonable amount to time. When I turned on the car, I realized from the updated tire pressure reading that I had let air out of the tires instead. My non-critical errand was now an urgent situation. With a new tire pressure of 18, I drove to a few more gas stations, seeking and taking advice from other drivers (many of whom were also in search of air compressors) and gas station attendants. Tip after well-intentioned tip led to more broken air pumps. Uneasy continuing to drive the vehicle with such low tire pressure and increasingly frustrated and panicky, I pulled into the 7-Eleven at 4646 West Market Street. When I went into the store to inquire about their air pump, I was advised that it too was out of service. When I shared my tale of woe, the two 7-Eleven staff members near the cash register, Tasha, and another woman, suggested that I go to Take 5 Oil Change at 4650 West Market Street, seconds away. When I pulled into Take 5 Oil Change and explained my situation, a technician told me to pull into the bay, where two team members immediately filled my tires. One team member even put a cap on the tire that seemed the most problematic. My crisis was quickly solved - for free - and I was able to go about my day much relieved. I have been here quite a few times with the most recent being today and little has changed for the good. The only reason I have been here is due to convenience. The staff lacks professionalism and that is clear when you pull in and they have loud music blaring with cussing in the lyrics. Today I knew my tire pressure was low in all tires due to the changing temperatures and I mentioned this to the tech. I was told they had already done the left side and he would handle the right. When I departed, the left side was at the same pressure as it was when I arrived and the right side was little changed and not at what he stated he had put it at. read more

TLDR: Paid for oil change, next day my car is leaking oil from the drain nut on the oil pan. They also lost 2 of 5 screws for my air box. Got an oil change here and the crew only replaced 2 of 5 screws to the air box when trying to sell the air filter. I sat there and watched/heard at least one screw drop and the crew members looked at each other and laughed it off. See pictures. The next morning, I go out to the car and see an oil slick in the driveway. Oil was very obviously pooling on the drain but for the oil pan. See pictures. My guess is that they either (1) didn't tighten it, and the girl goofed off for her "check" to verify everything was tight; or (2) the nut was mis-threaded from the beginning, so there's a good chance that will need to be replaced. Don't go here unless you want to pay ~$100.00 to waste your time, have slack employees be careless with your car, and you want to pay to fix their mistakes later. read more

We took my wife's vehicle in for an oil change before heading on vacation. As they were finishing up, the technician informed me they had broken the dip stick handle. I said okay, I will replace it, they are only around 10 bucks. I get home with the new dipstick, and realize they broke it off down in the tube. I called back, and was told to bring it in to be looked at. I went at the time they gave me, and the manager was not there. They filed out a incident report, and said to come in after our trip, and they would fix it, or send it to be repaired. When we went in the next time, the manager would not speak with me, and had a technician tell me they are not responsible, and I would have to get it repaired myself. It is a fairly simple repair, dropping the oil pan is all that's required. However they should have taken care of it. Will not return. read more

First of all, I have to say that the people who work at this location are some of the nicest folks I've dealt with -- polite, calm, pleasant to talk to. But I will never return and I regret going in the first place. I took my hybrid for the first time last August. My 10-minute oil change took half an hour after I pulled into the bay. I left thinking all was well, but wondering what had taken so long. A few weeks ago, I started noticing spots on my driveway. Granted, it was 7 months after the oil change, but my car is 12 months/10k miles between changes and I had 5k miles/5 months to go before another one. I took my car to a local Meineke to see what was leaking and they said it was oil leaking from the plug. Further, they said the threads in the oil pan were stripped, requiring me to have a new pan, plug, and oil change. They advised me to return to Take 5 because they were the last ones to change it, and the invoice said that they replaced the plug. There was nothing wrong with the plug and my car has never leaked anything; they replace the plugs with every oil change. It's just what they do. I took it right away and they disputed that the plug in my pan was not one of theirs. The invoice said the plug was replaced, so if they were the last ones to touch it and the plug I left with was not the plug I came in with, then the plug in my oil pan came from them. I don't know why it doesn't look like the one they claim they always use. They could have used a plug they took from one of the many other cars they replaced plugs in. I have no idea. They wanted to put a "butterfly plug" in my pan, but I had been advised against that so I wouldn't let them. I drove the car home, and by the next morning, significantly more oil had leaked out. I had to get a mechanic to drive to my house and verify that the car was safe to take it in for the repair. I had the car repaired and asked Take 5 to cover the cost, but they won't do it because I was not within the 30-day/1,000 mile window to lodge a complaint. Even if I had been within that window, they require customers to get their approval for whomever does a repair, and they aren't responsible for any repairs made without their approval. Now I'm out several hundred dollars for a repair that should never have been necessary because the plug in my pan was fine when I got the oil changed and should not have been replaced. I still maintain that the people I've dealt with have been nothing but pleasant and polite, but this experience was a fiasco. I have to add that when I went to pick my car up from being repaired, there was another customer in the lobby who'd had a bad experience at Take 5 (another location). I will never go back. read more
