I went to take 5 on Folly Rd. When I pulled into the parking lot, 3 techs walked out from behind a short dumpster to pull me in. The guys seemed annoyed that I would not accept the up sale for synthetic oil. He spilled oil all over the manifold and overall a shady experience. They did not do any other check, but yet the checklist shows that they checked the usual tire pressure, wipers, air filter etc. They are normally on at this location, but I will go somewhere else next time. read more

Be careful of these folks. I went in for an oil change and was shocked at pricing, but went with the fully synthetic oil change for $100. Once into the oil change they brought me my air filter which was fairly clean and said it's what helps my car breath and could use a replacement. It looked fine, leave it alone. Then they said there is smoke coming from the drain plug and that means my coolant is bad and it's eating away at the gaskets and that is why there is smoke coming from my drain plug. (Smoke in the crank case is caused by blow by, which is oil getting past the piston rings) When I asked how coolant is getting into where my oil should be I was told it was because the old coolant is eating at the seals and must be replaced. After questioning it for a while and getting a run around I opted out and moved on. Then I got my bill, $127. When I asked how we got from $100 to $127 they told me there was a $5 service fee and a $15 charge for the oil filter, I was not told about the upcharge for the oil filter. Steer clear from these folks. The oil filter is already oily on the outside and I'm afraid to see how my drain plug looks. There are many horror stories of them stripping drain plugs. Oh which the receipt says they replaced the drain plug? Doubtful. My receipt also says they washed my windshield and checked my wipers, which they didn't do either of those things. I went in this morning for an oil change I wanted the economy package but they told me they no longer offer that so I had to go to an a premium package which cost more and then they told me hey you need to have a coolant flush my technicians saw smoke coming out of the oil pan which indicates you need a coolant flush I asked about how much it was $119 I said okay we'll do it I was in and out less than 10 minutes I can understand the oil change might take less than 10 minutes but a coolant flush which I googled and it said that normally takes 30 minutes I even googled how long does it take for a coolant blush at take five and it says it normally takes 30 minutes and that your engine has to be cool well I was out as I said less than 10 minutes I questioned the guy and he says yeah they did it but deep down inside I really believe they did not do it I really believe I was ripped off so sad that you can't even trust an oil change people read more

You have to experience this yourself. The whole team was on point: Adolfo, Ramell, Dante. 15 mins total of the best service I've ever experienced at a mechanic. They met me every need. He didn't up sell me. He solved problems that I had forgotten about. I left with a fluids topped off, new oil pan plugged (I stripped it the last time I changed my oil), new air filter, new oil filter, tires aired up, and a clean windshield. While I don't like that I left there feeling scammed, I did want to give Take 5 the opportunity to hear me out and possibly offer a solution. I spoke to Austin the manager and Josh the district (I believe) manager Tuesday morning. After sharing my experience, although he defended the employees' actions, he ultimately made it right and offered a full refund as well as 50% off my next oil change. I have had my oil changed at this take five several times they are quick ,professional and courteous. I recently had my radiator flushed I have a Ford Explorer with high mileage just under 100000miles It runs great however when the radiator flush happened it caused my car to overheat immediately. They were fast acting and repaired the problem without question to wether it was just bad timing. This shop is responsible and they go way above and beyond to make things right. This was a costly endeavor for them to make me happy and they took care of it without hesitation. You don't find many businesses that will do that anymore! My suggestion to all in the Charleston Area is to drive the extra if necessary to promote this business we need owners with this type of ethical practice to remain strong in our community!!!!! read more

Started off by telling me my car came from the factory with full synthetic oil. They asked if I wanted to use that and I declined. My car only requires conventional oil. Robin then stated that they don't have the oil that my car requires but they can do a high mileage oil for almost the same price as the synthetic. If ever I had felt like I was being upsold it was today. The "Economy" is $50, the other 2 were both closer to $90. Whether or not they had the oil doesn't matter. I have never used them before and I don't know if I ever will. Just a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Went here for a simple oil change. Had to get pestered about upgrading/changing XYZ while sitting in my hot car for 15 minutes. I noticed the tech was toying with something under my car which was taking some time and stressing me. On my way home, the splash guard on my car partially fell off on the highway and was dragging on the ground thus making a god forsaken sound. Knowing nothing about cars, i had a stranger help me take the splash guard off and then went to a Honda dealership where they told me that whoever did my oil change didn't put back all of the screws. Thankfully, Honda didn't charge me and gave me another screw and resolved the problem. My overall review is that Take 5 is unprofessional, untimely, and irresponsible. Wouldn't recommend whatsoever unless you're on a huge time crunch and are okay with saying no while their techs try to sell you unnecessary "repairs". read more

Got my oil changed here a couple months ago and recently found oil leaking out of the drain plug. Apparently when they unscrewed the drain plug, they stripped the threading, left the screw in, and put tamper seal around it to attempt to seal it. None of this was mentioned to me. I would not recommend a Take 5 Oil Change to anyone who wants a quality job done. read more

If I could get negative stars, I would! I paid for a full synthetic oil change in August and was told to come back whenever the oil is getting low and they would top it off. I thought it was weird but I am getting close to 4,000 miles since then, so I tried to go back this morning for the top off because my car keeps alerting me that I need an oil change. I was told the top off has to be within 3 months and it's for fluids only. I was never told any of that until this morning. I am beyond infuriated and will never take my vehicle back there again. I was lied to and paid for a full synthetic service that I did not get. The oil I paid for should have lasted 8,000 miles, not 4,000. This place is a rip off!! read more

Today I was on my way to work and I knew I needed an oil change, so I went in. The people working were friendly and knowledgeable about the process. They also informed me that my Coolant was Toxic, so I had that replaced as well. All in all it took probably 20 mins to get that all done. They pumped my tires and made sure to check all my other fluids as well. If your in the North Charleston area, don't waste your time on sitting and waiting all day for an oil change. I got my oil changed with take 5 and an air filter change (I didn't want it but they kept insisting) at the end of the oil change cost me just about $100. As I drove out of the parking lot every light on my dash board turned on. I lost the power steering, the ability to move more then 10mph, the engine, power breaks, hill control just to name a few. I Turned the car right back into the parking lot and showed it to the guys who worked on my car. They opened my hood but all stood there scratching their heads and said it wasn't their fault it might have blown the alternator...... nothing was wrong before my oil was changed. They then told me I needed to go see a mechanic and that they couldn't help me. I went to the car dealership and had them run a diagnostic test. It turns out take 5 put TWICE as much oil in my car and the air filter was too small which caused improper airflow and over heated. This caused the extra oil to explode inside the engine and engine bay. My 5 minute oil change turned into a 6 hour wait at the shop while they had to clean up the mess take 5 caused. Cost me 3x the amount I spent on the over priced oil change it's self. Safe to say I won't use this service in the future. Be careful! read more
