And who doesn't love meat + cheese + bread? So when sustenance was needed on our road trip, a Yelp search for "sandwiches" led us to What A Blessing. I admit we were skeptical. The interior was small and... well... odd. It reminded me of my great-aunt Marie's farmhouse. Upon immediately walking in the door I saw that a large bakery case was empty. I almost walked out thinking the place was going out of business. However, we grabbed a table in the (small) dining room and perused the limited menu. We ordered roast beef, but they were out of it. We ordered soup, but they had none to offer. Discouragement set it, but we persevered. Finally, our subs and sandwiches arrived! They all came with a side of BBQ chips. Now... BBQ chips are my favorite, so I perked up immediately. Let me shout this: THE SUB ROLLS WERE HOMEMADE! They were delicious. Fantastic flavor. Perfect texture and crumb. The subs were piled with meat, which tasted high quality. Kid #1 swore her turkey was Boar's Head. Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't, but it was definitely quality meat. My cheesesteak was fantastic, and the Italian sub was spot-on. The burger was just average, but the delicious HOMEMADE bun made up for it. All the veggies (lettuce, tomato, etc.) on our subs seemed fresh. The owner(?) dropped some free pastries at our table, too. Sweet, tender, and tasty! I would recommend you grab a donut or two to go, too. In the area and want a sweet or a sammie? Check out What A Blessing to support a local guy and a Christian.

Holy Toledo what a bakery! First time I was recommended to a place in South Boston that I feel is…read moretotally worth putting on the map! Such a super cute bakery FILLED with goodies. We were a little confused at first, then realized you have to fill out an order form for sandwiches. Totally fine. You get to choose up to 3 meats and or cheeses for $5.49. There is just something about having your meat cut fresh to order. The persons behind the counter were all super sweet. Bakery items galore! From donuts to fresh made pies, and almost everything in between. They have packaged products like chocolate covered nuts and pretzels all the way to candles and signs. The donuts must also be amazing because by the time we got there, they were completely sold out. I got a sandwich, kettle cooked chips, 2 bottled drinks, a cinnamon bun, and banana chips for $20. The cinnamon bun itself weighs about 2 lbs! And they were hot out of the oven, I could not resist. Let's just say, every time I am in SoBo, I will be making a stop here.

You have to fill out an order form and turn it into the sandwich makers. I got a turkey and cheese sandwich, chips and water. It cost around $8.00, which was a fair price. The sandwich was small, and it was okay, nothing extra. I am downloading the picture. They also had donuts, eclairs, pies, cakes, and cookies. I think they have soups, and there was a small salad bar. They had canned items, like apple butter and preserves. There was also candy and nuts. There are tables inside, and a couple of tables outside. Windmill Farm Bake Shop is a decent place for a quick lunch, but nothing extra. It is close to the hospital.
