I mentioned this before, but in my lifetime growing up in New York, my parents always took us to very small unique restaurants. We called them hole in the wall yesterday I had the great pleasure of being in Cutler Bay and I went to this little place called Takee Outee.. What a great find I ordered my favorite, which was pork, egg foo young it came with pork fried rice and an eggroll and a drink. It was delicious. It was some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. Wish they were here in Little Havana, I'll be going out to this place again , next time in Cutler Bay! Great!!! read more

Singapore Chow Mein fun has always been my favorite. I have ordered it for lunch recently a couple of times and it's a greasy mess. Hardly any curry flavor. Tonight I ordered it again thinking....wishing.... that perhaps the cook at lunch was different than the one at lunch time.I ordered cashew chicken with extra cashews, Singapore Chow Mein Fun extra spicy, and a vegetable Chow mein fun. The delivery came and was missing the vegetable Chow mein fun. The delivery guy was great. He called them up right then and there and brought it straight away. The cashew chicken...well they swapped the cashew for peanuts and they were very lucky that our guest was not allergic to peanuts. The Chow mein fun was lacking in curry flavor and not very spicy but at least it wasn't greasy. I called and the manager offered to bring me cashews and curry sauce. WTH? I told her not to bother. This, as the name says, is a tiny take-out place where you just go, place your order, wait a few minutes and leave with your food. Considering that, it is surprisingly good. I've gone to sit-down restaurants where the food quality is put to shame by Takee-Outee, and even though they are usually packed, with the phones ringing all the time and busy cooking (you can see everything that happens in that kitchen from the checkout), I have never ever seen anyone in the staff so much as look bad at an annoying customer. The wonton soup is generally great (though yes, there are some times when the wontons feels either overcooked or undercooked, I eat from here a lot and this is a plate where averages count, the they're never bad, just that sometimes they're not on point). Fried rice? Good Gyosas? Great! Lo mein? Very good. General taos chicken? Great Steak with mushrooms which name I don't remember now? Great! Spring rolls? Very good I'm not a lover of the honey garlic chicken, but it's good too. Etc. Also, orders over a certain amount get a free something. Depending on how much, can be a 2-liter soda or something else. When you order your $25.00 to $45.00 food, you may ask her for a plastic bag for the food so it doesn't leak fluid onto your seat covers. She will give you a plastic bag but refuses to put the paper bag in the plastic. Rather, she will just put the folded bag on the counter and it is up to the customers to place the paper in plastic themselves!!! She does the same if you ask for chop sticks. You ask for 3 hot mustards, with a nasty attitude she will snap that you can only have 2, placing them on the counter to put in the bag yourself! During all of this, she will remain playing on her cell phone during your pick up and despite the expense of your order, not even rendering a thank you! What??? This lady needs to be exported back to China or wherever the hell she came from and sell street food!!! Finally, tried to contact the owner but the owner is conviently hidden from consumer complaints. I have done thousands of food outlets in my 77 years, and never complained one, some were good and some were bad but this by far is the absolutely worse I have ever been too as far as customer service goes. I mean, she can't even put their leaky paper bag food in a plastic bag? Customers have to do that themselves???? And can't even say thank you for your order, what???? I've seen mixed reviews for this place and I decided to stop by and try it out for myself. Word of advice? Don't. The actual restaurant is dirty and I couldn't see their health grade anywhere. The young man that was taking the orders was very nice but that's about the only plus side of my experience. I ordered the shrimp lo mein and an order of spring rolls. The spring rolls tasted like cardboard and I don't even know what vegetables were in the inside. It was definitely the worst spring roll I've had. How can you get dry veggies inside the roll? I have been into Takee Outee twice within the past couple of weeks and both times the food has been fantastic and the portions have been enormous! Both times I had the combo with Honey Garlic Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. The chicken was super fresh and nice and crispy and the honey garlic sauce was just right. I would have liked it to have a little more garlic but it was still delicious just as it was. The rice was freshly made and didn't disappoint. The egg roll was also very fresh and nice and crispy. The food is good, they prepare it quickly and its fresh, and its very inexpensive! Then I dont know what the hell happened but it seems like maybe new management? I was in need of a new Chinese place asap and decided to try this spot. Both experiences have been great . I have always pre ordered online and gone to pick it up within time estimated and I never had to wait . The shrimp fried rice has enough shrimp for a quart size and they are medium sized shrimps not small. Some Chinese restaurants skimp you out however, not this establishment . It also tasted very fresh and they cook the rice with little soy sauce which is great because if you want more they have soy sauce packets available to add at your discretion. The LO MEIN IS BOMB . I'm seriously addicted to lo mien . Whether hot or cold , it hits the spot. They make it taste amazing , I recommend the vegetable lo mein ! I also had honey chicken and enjoy that they pack the honey seperate. When you walk into the restaurant it is small and the kitchen is visible since it is behind the counter.
