I had been hearing about Apocalypse BBQ for a while, so I was excited when it worked out that we were in the area and hungry for lunch at a super convenient time where there was not yet a line! We had a great experience. Our server was so friendly and went out of her way to be kind to our 4-year-old and make sure she had a good experience too. The food here is BBQ with a latin twist. For appetizers, we had the Pulled Pork Tostones and the Empanada. The Tostones came with two pieces that were loaded with pork and pickled onions. It was a ton of food. And the empanada had a brisket and cheese mixture that was so incredibly delicious. Highly recommend both these appetizers. For our meals we chose to share the 2-person platter which comes with two meats and two sides. All of the portions were huge, so this was plenty of food for both of us and to share with our 4-year-old as well (whom we also ordered French fries for). I understand the fries usually come with garlic on them, but we ordered them without since it was mostly for our child. We ordered two portions of the Cafecito Ribs. As much as we liked the appetizers, these ribs knocked it out of the park for us!! They were so flavorful. Our server had told us they are more sweet than coffee flavored, as some had expected, but I actually found them to have a really good earthy flavor that complemented its sweetness so well. These were absolutely delicious. I believe the ribs were smoked 6-8 hours I believe. They were soft and fall off the bone, and, honestly, we'll probably order the same thing next time haha. For sides we had the Abuelita Beans and the Elote corn. The platter also came with four pieces of Texas Toast. The Abuelita Beans were interesting because they had a definite latin flair. My husband, who is Puerto Rican, didn't care for the beans, but I think it's because they were so different than what he expected. I thought they were good despite the fact that I do not care for Chicharrones which they had mixed in. There were small pieces and larger ones - I accidentally ate a larger one, thinking it was a potato, hahaha. They were good.. you just have to expect the flavor. The Elote was delicious but a bit salty. The ambiance was cool too. It was inside a long rectangular building. They even had strong air vents and fans outside to keep it cooler for those waiting inline. The inside has an elevated diner feel because it's shaped like a stereotypical long diner but with updated and sophisticated decor. They also have a bar, so cocktails and beer are on the menu as well. I had a Corona). Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely to back. I know pretty good BBQ having lived in Texas, and traveling extensively through the south. This was really slammin food! Collectively the table had: - a family meal (a lot of food for the price) - lean brisket, pulled pork, ribs, corn bread, coleslaw, fried corn, fried yuca, and beans (all delicious, but ribs were very salty for me, but still tasty) - the wings (some of the best wings I have ever had) - burger with mac n cheese as side - cookies (warm, soft and chocolatey) I recommend trying it! I am a regular here every single week, me and my girlfriend always come for the $1 wing specials on Wednesdays and we always end up getting more than just wings lol, but everything we ever have here is always mind blowing. The lunch specials for the weekdays is great, the Brisket Chopped Cheese and the Cluck Norris Chicken Sandwich are great for the lunch special price and honestly you can't beat it. Service here always makes you feel at home, you come more than once and they instantly remember you and will welcome you back and it really makes you feel like you're apart of a family over there and that's something I definitely love about it here. I arrived in Miami one day before my cruise & my friend highly recommended recommended this restaurant! We arrived around 6:45 and there was a 20 min wait, it didn't take that long & they offered free beer & water while we waited. It was off to a great start! Our server was kind and polite however it took her forever to take our orders and come back with the checks. She told us after we'd order that there can only be three checks which is fine but I wished it was communicated sooner. I'd never in my life been so irate with poor/slow service. It was insane!! This was my second visit to Apocalypse BBQ, first to new location. Thankfully, there is now a waitlist to join before you arrive at restaurant. The online tracker is accurate and improved the overall experience. Mickey the server was on-point. All staff appeared happy and productively busy. Great music filled the air along with the delicious smell of food. Cafecito wings were best in Miami. Ribs fell off the bone, smoked perfectly and tasted ideally. Asked for three sauces, mustard, coffee sauce and a jalapeño mayo sauce. Pulled pork was fantastic. Beans were perfect with crunchy pork rinds within. Beer was cold and well priced. Apocalypse did not disappoint! The dining area is very large and we were seated within a couple minutes of putting our name down. Our server was very friendly and constantly checked in on us throughout the lunch. We tried a little bit of everything on the menu and thought that some of the standout items were the spare ribs, brisket, and the corn bread. The flavor on the spare ribs was spectacular and very different from what I'm used to when it comes to Texas style BBQ. The brisket was very juicy and tender. First time I had this place was at a party, they got their catering and it was delicious. The brisket was the best and the coleslaw was the best side I had. However when I went it was ok. The wait was like 1 hr long and the choices slowly kept disappearing. What made it so much worse was how many flies they had outside in the waiting area. I want to start off this review on a personal note and big statement for myself. I do not care for BBQ typically, but this is the BEST BBQ joint I've ever, yes, EVER tried. My group of 3 walked up to the outdoor hostess, we gave a name for our group, it was about a 30-40 minute wait. It was expected since word of mouth was passed along that this place usually has a wait to be seated. Once we were sat on a booth, we were greeted by the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable waiter, sad to say, I don't remember her name, but the customer service was all the way there! When I scanned through the menu, I wanted to dig all the way in. Keep in mind, I was a bit skeptical since I am not the biggest BBQ fan. For starters we ordered their brisket bacon, brisket wings, and a brisket empanada. We were also told there was a daily special, pulled pork mac & cheese french fries so of course we got an order. Their menu has changed since my initial visit, but it was all a la carte style; we created our own "platter" consisting of Mac and cheese, cafecito ribs, sausage, brisket, corn bread, coleslaw, elote, and maduros. Ooo weee! That's a mouthful and it was damn good. Their brisket meat is smoked to absolute perfection, has a crisp and is still extremely juicy (we ordered lean style). The flavors are all the way there and just explode in your mouth, you can't go here and NOT order their brisket, like cmon. I was very impressed. Now, I'm a carb junkie, so I was a major fan of their Mac and cheese and corn bread. I even took some to go, it was that delicious. You will be in the best food coma after all of that, I know I sure was! Though the food was phenomenal, I have to give up to the front and BOH. The real MVP's. You really see the staff work as a team, it's a sight to see. Our waiter, expos, and manager walked over to our booth throughout our munch time and asked if we were good, how our experience was, etc. The attentiveness was present- that's a lost art in Miami lol, so bravo! I got here around 1:45PM with a group of 3. We were greeted by two young ladies working the front who were very friendly. There was a 45 minute wait, which we thought about, but because we were tight on time, we opted to order out. They have an ice chest dull of beer and water for all of the people waiting, which I thought was a nice touch and was reminiscent of some of my favorite BBQ spots in Texas. I will note, that the line substantially grew around 2PM. I opted for the Brisket sandwich, which came topped with coleslaw. I also ordered the pulled pork empanada, which came with an amazing BBQ sauce. My friends ordered brisket, ribs, cornbread, and Mac and cheese, which I got to try. Everything exceeded my expectations. This isn't just the best BBQ in Miami, it's some of the best BBQ I've had. They're doing legitimate BBQ at Apocalypse. I definitely understand the hype about Apocalypse BBQ!!! I've been wanting to try this place for years and finally got around to it a couple weeks ago! The evening we stopped by, Yelp was down and people were not able to join their waitlist virtually which caused the line to be even longer. But the staff were kind and passed out fries to those some of the people who were waiting outside. After a nearly 2 hour wait, we were seated and our server was great. The other servers and staff came to check on our table and the other tables around us multiple times as well, so overall I would say the restaurant gives really good service. They did well with making the decor fit the theme of the restaurant, even down to the faucets and knobs of the bathroom sinks. We were a little confused about the very loud electronic music that was playing throughout, but it didn't take away from our experience. My cousin and I ordered a half rack of cafecito ribs, the prime brisket, pulled pork, cowboy link, corn bread, coleslaw, French fries, mac & cheese and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The food was served within a matter of minutes which was great as we were very hungry after waiting a couple of hours, but it was also confusing because you would think the wait times wouldn't be so long if the service is so fast. Our favorite bites were definitely the cowboy link, pulled pork, coleslaw, cornbread & chocolate chip cookie, so you should definitely give those a try, but you can't go wrong because everything we ordered was delicious. The only thing I probably wouldn't reorder was the mac and cheese because it was just okay. Overall a great experience and if you're craving BBQ food, don't mind a little wait, and are in the area, I highly recommend giving Apocalypse a try! Although this place is a drive from where I live, it was so worth it. Arrive early as they don't take reservations. We got there right before they opened so we were seated fast and as we were walking in, we got greeted by every single staff person. Our server was super friendly and explained the dishes and made some recommendations. This is a bbq place with a twist. The twist is that they combine Latin flavors so the bbq is different. Very very tasty!! The cafecito ribs are rubbed in cafecito for example. The brisket bacon (starter) is pork belly that is seasoned like a brisket but fried like bacon! The corn bread is shaped as a skull which was super cool and unique. The place looks more like a dinner and plays loud music but it all works! Food is brought out in a timely manner as well. After participating in a Yelp event last year for its sister restaurant, LaLa's, I finally had the full Apocalypse experience. And what better way to do your first run than to have your homies invite you out for your birthday! Pulled up on a Friday night at 8pm, no resy. There was a minimal wait (literally all of 10 mins total) and was offered a free beer while I waited, an Outlaw light from Colorado, which was actually pretty good. Got sat in the booth right in middle of joint and it was off to the races lol. This spot offers cocktails to get your appetite going, and make most ingredients that are going into your drinks in-house. All of the cocktails we had were good, which everyone was happy about. I started with an Atomic Passion, which was Mezcal and Passionfruit, followed by the Flamed Guava (also Mezcal). My friends had the Smoked Ember OF, and the Lavender Lady. For the chowdown, here's what we ordered: - Smoked Wings - Cafecito Ribs (Half-Rack) - 1lb Brisket - Cornbread Skullz (3) - Elote - Potato Salad - Baked Beans - Coleslaw - Kids burger con papitas Mac & Cheese was sold out unfortunately, but that just means we'll have to come back for it. Brisket and the potato salad were my favorite things out of the order. On a solo mission I would definitely order those two things again. Cornbread was as good as I had heard, also enjoyed the ribs. The "cafecito" touch was nice, don't recall seeing that anywhere else. The pickles get an honorable mention because they was PICKLING! They low-key tasted like cucumbers but sweet-ish. Slap a few on the Brisket and whoaaa Nelly! My homies' son enjoyed his burger and didn't let anyone take it or box it, he simply took his time enjoying. Nearing the end of our meal, I got caught off guard with a LOUD A$$ Happy Birthday Song and got properly embarrassed lol my friend joked that they turned the music off randomly and boom! The inside is cozy giving old school diner vibes but with a modern twist. The food is divine, there wasn't a single item I wouldn't recommend. We finally decided to brave the lines and try this very popular place. The good thing is that although they don't take reservations, they allowed us to get on the wait list online. But, we still had to wait an hour. They're very nice, they have free water and you're able to order drinks while you wait. But, as expected, the food (although very good) was not worth the wait. We ordered the platter and the meat was dry. The corn was delicious and so was the mac & cheese. The service was very friendly, and the food actually came out pretty quickly once we finally sat down. Leaving this review for The Humos Taco Tuesdays collab at Apocalypse BBQ. What an unbelievable concept! You have Apocalypse bbq meats meets excellent Humos Mexican tacos. Wild fusion! You have Live Mariachi trio performing at 7pm . You have $5 margaritas and they have a few other excellent cocktails as well which Humos makes. Been there quite a few times and have some favorites. The lamb taco is a welcomed addition to their lineup, so savory good. Wow this is a great treat. Creamy smooth lamb, pineapple sweet with a peppery kick. Definitely savor the flavors in the mouth don't swallow, no woofing it down. The smoked portobello taco is uniquely different and has wonderful smoked flavor and holds it's own! The Chicken Timba is a spicy taco which you could take out the jalapeños for less spiciness. The Pork taco is incredibly soft meat. Lastly on my favorite list if the Birria taco. Aside from that I'd skip Brisket taco amd the Ribs and focus more on things like their corn bread or hold off for their ridiculously delicious dessert: cornbread churros! Yes yes must have room for that dessert. Look to be honest this place is a 6.5 out of 10. I loved the empanadas, the pull pork was finger licking good. No the corn bread was meh, I would prefer they put the honey on the side. The bacon brisket wasn't ny fav either and the mac and cheese was good but make sure you eat it fast because if ir gets cold it isn't as good. I will probably be back just for the empanadas and the margaritas but other than that it was meh! Service was great I believe my waiter was named Chris and he was amazing very talkative and detailed. If you don't get on the list early, be prepared to wait hours because this place stays busy. The food was delicious across the board, but the brisket was easily the star of the show. They're always happy to amend any error and provide alternatives. I personally haven't have any mistakes ever, but when any food item is out, they always warn you beforehand. All servers are knowledgeable of the food and drinks. My favourite day is Wednesdays for the $1 wings. Traveling thru Kendall, I realized that we were their new location ( former diner behind closed Bahama Breeze) Not to crowded on a Thursday afternoon 3pm. There were 2 seats at the bar so we decided to sit immediately instead of waiting. It was around 7pm on a Saturday and it was about a 25 min wait. The cocktails are tasty and made to order. I love the cafecito ribs. The cornbread is good, though not my favorite as I find it a little dry. The pulled pork provides a really nice portion and it's very tender.
