I had my baby shower cake here and had it delivered to the place of my event. I ordered a round cake that would be used for photos and a sheet cake for serving. I forgot to ask for a cake knife so I was scrambling a little when it was time to serve the cake. It was weird that when the cake was delivered the round cake didn't come in a box. It was literally just the cake. Since I am not a new customer here I knew exactly what cake flavor I wanted and I couldn't be any happier. Since I know what flavor o wanted choosing a design and having them execute it was no issue. My cakes turned out wonderful.

This is a such sweet and much needed spot in our Pasadena community. Both Lynn and Shazi are very intentional towards us (my fiancé and I came in for a wedding cake deposit). Both women are intentional in giving us all the details and even made sure they understood what we wanted with the filling and design. The attention to details and kindness to customers is much needed in the busy or hustle and bustle of our daily grind. It is. Dry refreshing dealing with people in the service industry that cares about getting your order and the most important day of your life right.

We ordered our wedding cake from Takes The Cake -- they absolutely live up to their name! We got an 8" cutting cake and sheet cake to serve to guests. The cake was chocolate on chocolate with fresh strawberries and a light ivory frosting. We also added the meandering vine design and buttercream flowers. Communication was super clear and fast, and we were able to try a few samples and finalize our order on the same day. Everything was magnificent! I had a very special theme for my 30th birthday. I have been planning this party since I turned 20 and I always knew how I would like my cake to look like . When i picked up my cake I was blown away ! Not only did it look exactly like I wanted it also tasted amazing! ( Got white/vanilla cake with white chocolate filling ) Make sure to order in advance ( I did like 4 months cus I'm crazy ) so that they don't book up . We definitely be back :)

They did a great job on my wedding cake. We were able to taste samples before we picked our flavors and the cake was perfect! We ordered by emailing them. Cake wasn't cheap but it was much cheaper than what other bakeries quoted us. Our wedding coordinator said this is the only place she'd pick up from as she knows they pack the cakes so well. They also give you a grip for the bottom of the cake not to slide in the car and show you how best to transport and cut to serve. 10/10, ordering all our cakes from here moving forward. Our cake was vanilla with white chocolate mousse and chocolate with chocolate mousse.

I ordered a Sonic-themed cake for my son's 7th birthday, and it was perfect! This was my first time ordering here, and they nailed the design exactly as I requested. The communication during the ordering process was super easy, and the cake was delivered right on time. Lynn and Shazi were amazing!All the guests, including the kids, couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. My son really loved the cake and said " Wow, This is the best cake ever! March 2013 These ladies ROCK. Hard. I ordered a specialty cake, using a photo. These ladies brought the photo to life and then surpassed it. The cake looked gorgeous, tasted delicious, and brought many oooohs and aaaaahs to the event. Specialty cakes are expensive; do yourself a favor and spend your money well. This is a long overdue review. So glad I found this place. I procrastinate and didn't order a cake for my bestie's bridal shower a week in advance because my go to place would usually take my order (I usually just order a plain white cake). However, this time around they didn't take my order but that's alright because I found Takes the Cake. The lady ( I think she said her name was Lynn) was willing to take my order days before the party. I was so relieved. When I went in the next morning to place the order, she was so easy going and friendly. I got a two tier with white cake with strawberry creme filling. When I picked it up, she gave me this little cut out mat to put down on the floor of my car under the cake box so it wouldn't slide. I was a little hesitant about it but she was right, the cake didn't move and it was better than putting it on a seat. What a great hack! So far so good with my experience here and when it came to cake eating time, it was the best cake I ever had. Way better than the other place I usually order from. It was so good the bride, even left a review herself (didn't know she did until I posted my own review). Guys, if you looking for a place that makes cake right. Order from them. I can't tell how great the cake was. It was well worth the money. read more

I ordered a custom cake for my brother's birthday here and the ladies were very nice and flexible with the cake design and added their creativity also. I was very satisfied with the way the cake turned out. The cake was delicious- a little sweet, but I guess that's expected for a two layer & two filing cake. I was able to tell them my idea and pick out some pictures for them to make some edible decorations. The cake made it through a 8hour car drive back to Nevada without getting ruined. The ladies did a wonderful job!! I will be coming back here for future custom cake orders!! read more

I ordered a baby shower cake from them, overall it came out very good and I was very happy with it! Only negative thing I have to see is they did forget some details of texture on the cake, but other then that they executed it wonderfully and the cake itself was DELICIOUS!!! I would recommend! Only reason I took one star off is because the pricing, was between 225-250 $ (bit pricey but hey I guess what isn't) & forgetting details of the cake. read more

Ordered a cake here for my now goddaughters baptism. I wasn't able to go to the location and ordered on the phone based on the Yelp reviews and a picture of a cake on there website. When I called they were very helpful and the cake was exactly what I expected when it was delivered. Everybody raved about the cake, not only did it look great but the frosting was so good! Not too sweet but just enough. The cake was moist and the filling fresh. It is a little pricey but totally worth it! read more

We got our wedding cake from Takes The Cake. The cake was beautiful and delicious. I highly recommend the Hazelnut cake filling. We went cake tasting at a few places but nothing was nearly as good as that Hazelnut flavor at Takes The Cake. We asked them to put blue anchors on the cake and white rope around the outsize. Came back looking great. The cake arrived right on time during our reception. There was some mixup; the bridesmaids apparently thought the cake was supposed to arrive earlier even though I told the planner when the cake was to arrive. So the bridesmaids kept calling to check on the cake, for no reason. So sorry Takes The Cake! Anyways, everyone loved the cake. read more

Our wedding was on March 7 and we ordered the main cake to show and a sheet cake. The cakes were amazing, they were exactly what we wanted. We ordered one cake with pineapple bavarian cream filling and the other one with vanilla amaretto filling. They delivered them to the venue for a small fee and the show cake looked amazing once all the fresh flowers and leaves were on it. The staff was very professional all throughout the process from the tasting to the day of delivery. We definitely recommend Takes the Cake. read more

Want to personally thank Lynn for all her help! Drove by there a few weeks ago asking for her a quote, but she redirected me to communicating with her via email because it was much safer due to the circumstances. She replied instantly, gave me the final pricing ASAP and made sure everything was set. After requesting quotes and checking over 30 bakeries between Anaheim & Beverly Hills and Torrance to Altadena, I found Takes The Cake. I was immediately impressed with the friendliness and customer service on the phone. The price was 48% less than the other comparable bakeries I had spoken with, and the ease of working with them was a done deal for me. I picked up the cake yesterday for a 50th birthday, and it looked incredible. They did an amazing job. In addition, the cake was one of the most delicious and moist cakes I've had in California. This is my personal experience with these guys, but you can be sure that I'll use them every time I need a cake, and I've already referred them to all of my friends. I had my son's first birthday cake done by Takes the Cake and they did an excellent job. We had a two tiered Sesame Street themed cake and then an Elmo smash cake. The cakes were so beautiful I didn't want to cut into it! It was delicious too- one tier was white cake and strawberry (which ended up being my favorite) and the other was chocolate and cream cheese mousse filling which was also delicious. I found this place by driving through and was in need for a wedding cake. They were so nice and let me take my time to decide what I wanted for my cake. They even said it was okay for me to make my last appointment at 4:30pm even though they close at 5. I love how they communicated with me when they had questions. Even find the time to look for ribbons for my cake. The day I saw my cake on my wedding day made me so happy. It was so perfect and so smooth. Even tasted great. We hired Takes the Cake to do our wedding cake. We had our cake tasting less than 2 weeks before the day we needed the cake. They were so accommodating and helped us find the right size cake for our gathering. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and they replicated it perfectly. I also wanted them to add flowers to the cake when they delivered. I had an image in my mind of what I thought it would look like and it looked 100x better. I seriously was amazed at the design they did with our flowers and they even added a touch of my bouquet ribbon to make the cake fit in with the theme more! Just beyond wonderful. Not to mention the cake was/is delicious. We had just enough left over to dig into after everyone had left and save for our 1st anniversary. Highly recommend the chocolate cake with hazelnut filling. Awesome and totally delicious Minecraft cake! The ladies were super accommodating with my last minute order only days before the event, but came through and produced a lovely cake that was the talk of the party! Our wedding cake was amazing. We had a 4 tier wedding cake. All white cake with strawberry mouse (2 layers), raspberry glaze, and apricot mouse. Very yummy. Ordering was easy, delivery without a hitch. My guests ate almost the whole thing, which I consider a success! Perfect for wedding, I don't know if I'd get birthday cake here just because I tend to go to Costco for those, but for special occasions, this place Takes the cake. read more

If you are looking for an old-fashioned, traditional cake bakery, this is the place. The cakes are the best decorated, best tasting that I know of in the Los Angeles area at reasonable prices. Plus, the ladies in the bakery are sweet and remember who you are. So very few of these places exist anymore that it is important that we support these businesses. read more

Had them custom make my daughters birthday cake (showed them what I wanted). It was simple white cake and naked cake. Both didn't turn out to look like the pictures I showed them and both cakes were not straight on the top (looked lopsided on the cake stand). Looked pretty bad in pictures. I wanted a very special cake for my friend for her birthday, I looked in the phone book for special bakeries and located TAKES THE CAKE. My friend just called me and said, "This cake is delicious!" Also, when I called to inquire about a small cake, the lady was beyond kind & helpful. When I went in to order, she greeted me with a smile...well I will ALWAYS order cakes for ALL occasions from TAKES THE CAKE. Our wedding cake was perfect! I loved everything about it. I was worried that our cake topper would be too heavy for the cake but it was placed on the cake without a problem. I was hesitant to go with them because they don't use fondant on their cakes but they assured me that their cakes are very smooth. They hand whisk behind the bar and color is gorgeous. This is definitely one of their more expensive drinks to make, and price reflects. There's interior seating (and some outdoor), but it's usually noisy and bustling. Much better to socialize. I would take someone here to impress them, because it seems they're always in the business of impressing me.

The cappuccino may be the best I've ever had. I don't know what kind of coffee they use, but it was very smooth. That alone is worth the trip. AND, my barista did a cute milk art on top. The Kouign Amann was AMAZING. Layered and flaky I confess I ate the whole thing! I can't wait until I can try the other 2 things I've purchased. After all, the chocolate croissant was the primary reason for going. Now for the negatives: Management should figure out a way for more than one person to take orders and box them up. Even Mom & Pop donut shops often have multiple people taking orders. And Porto's has it down to a science. It would go a long way toward clearing the line faster. My second issue was the price. Quality is expensive. I get it. And I'm fortunate enough to be able to splurge for a treat like this. But with a small tip added to my total I spent just shy of $100! Not something I can do every week. But I would encourage you to save your nickels and check them out!

I am very pleased with this Bakery. Its small, but packs a big punch! I had a bridal shower for my future daughter-in-law, and found this bakery at the last minute. I didn't make an appointment. Just walked in, and upon tasting 4 slices of cake, picked the flavor I like and ordered the cake. I chose the white cake, with Strawberry preserves and cream cheese! Yum! The cake was light, and the filling was yummy. I basically ordered a mini wedding cake, and it came out beautiful! And, very very reasonable! Everyone at the shower loved the cake, and asked where I got it from. I actually ordered more than I needed, and gave the bottom tier to the bride to be. She and my son, are on a strict diet for the wedding, so she took it to work. Needless to say, the people at her work, demolished it. Not a crumb left. I could not be happier with my experience with Takes The Cake and Lynn! We had a dinosaur themed cake made for my son's 2nd birthday. Sadly my son caught a terrible virus a couple days before the party and we were forced to postpone by a week. Lynn was understanding and gave us no hassle about the last minute change, which was so kind of her. The cake we got a week later was perfection! Takes The Cake recently did my husband's groom's cake and it turned out great. Very whimsical. It had an outdoor theme and were able to incorporate the funny cake topper I got at Michael's without a problem. The cake was white with a raspberry filling and was quite tasty. Fresh. I still go to them when I need a specialty cake for a birthday or other special occasion. They can be on the pricey side, but I don't mind that for a special event. read more

The color was exactly what I wanted and we were obsessed w the rustic design. I loved that it wasn't overly sweet and was very light.
