Very famous for their korean and mexican fusion flavours , i tried their 3 korean tacos with tofu with all sauce and toppings and also the chickenrice bowl for my friend. The taco had a different flavour specially the kimchi and thats coz its fusion and not the authentic kimchi. Overall the taste was good but not up to the mark for me because i am used to eating authentic korean food so I have an acquired taste. But its a good concept and the flavour blends very well. A must try if u are looking for a fusion flavour. My friend loved the chicken rice bowl as it had really good flavours and she is used to eating Mexican food more. Mmm. I've honestly been eyeing TaKorean since 2011 and never got around to finding the truck. We came here for a different event and we were hungry! We stopped over at TaKorean and I'm glad we did. The tacos were damn good and hefty. I am hoping to try other ones and wish that TaKorean would open a grill down in Dupont (hint, hint). My only criticism is that I was a little confused by how it all works (being my first time there) and the guys could have been more helpful. I literally asked what the deal was and they looked at me blankly ... maybe it was just too early in the morning for all parties involved! While the filling of the taco was okay, it's difficult to escape the fact that it is surrounded by a cold, tasteless tortilla. It's like you know those corn tortillas that you get at the store that just break apart? The tortilla was just so cold, inevitably rendering my soul the same way. New FAVORITE!! I can't believe I didn't try this place out the moment I heard of it, but I'm glad I did. TaKorean has definitely taken the #1 spot for fast concept food in my heart. The times I've been here, I've gotten the Half & Half (Brown Rice & Kimchi Slaw) with either Steak (Bulgogi) or Chicken. Both are seasoned so perfectly, I can't even describe it but it's just so good. The Steak (Bulgogi) is a bit on the sweeter side but I appreciate that all the fat trimmings are cut off so you get only the meat. The Chicken is juicy, tender, & so flavorful. For the Slaw, I really like the Kimchi Slaw which has a little kick & I recently tried the Romaine Slaw which gave the Kimchi Slaw a nice balance. You can get half & half or even all three slaws for no additional charge. Lastly, I top my bowl off with Salsa Roja (which also has a slight kick), Lime Crema, & Sesame Seeds. The location is easy to find in Union Station with a few tables for seating. The staff is friendly & willing to answer any questions. Honestly, their menu is very simple & sometimes I feel like my meal is still not complete & missing something but I still enjoy every bite. They also sell bottled beverages, even Soju! Got a beef & slaw bowl and it was delicious! I was tempted to go 4 stars, coz I was still a bit hungry after eating.... But I'm still remembering the amazing tang of the slaw more than 24 hours later, so that spice level deserves all the stars. If you're near Gallaudet Univ, be sure to check it out. This review is only based on the food because the location is amazing. It looked so amazing but wasn't really impressed. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. I had a rice and cabbage dish with chicken and the Kale slaw. The kale slaw was probably the best it was nicely seasoned but i didn't feel like the dish had much flavor itself I topped it with Sriracha. It was a normal lunch portion and it cost around $9.60. I first discovered TaKorean from their food truck that frequented Capitol South back in 2011. Since then, they've expanded so much, and were one of the first shops set up in Union Market in 2013. Their menu hasn't changed too much since then, but there's really no need - their tacos are phenomenal and a perfect fusion of two cultures and cuisines. The staff is friendly and energetic, service is quick despite the lines, and the flavors are amazing. My personal favorite: the pork tacos with lime crema, kimchi slaw, and all the toppings. It was an obviously super popular spot to eat at Union Market given the super long lines and the hype on Yelp. So of course I had to give it a try. They are like a Korean Chipotle - you get to pick bowl or taco, type of protein and then add on's. I wanted to try the tacos but they don't come with rice and I wanted rice so I went with the half and half (half rice and half slaw) bowl. It was a delicious choice. I got Bugulgi, rice, and cabbage slaw (the only non-spicy slaw, it has a mild rice vinegar dressing), and Korean spicy sauce (boyfriend likes the spice) and lime crema on the side. It was an altogether very delicious meal. I was very happy with the half and half because I think if I had just gotten the rice, though it was delicious, it would've been too bland with just the meat. The slaw added an extra layer of flavor and provided a nice balance, esp. with the different sauces on the side. Rice was mixed with sesame seeds and it was a bit sticky so no ordinary rice either. Water - if you as for water, they'll give you a cup and you can fill it up at the water fountain by the restrooms. Tacos - if you ask for tacos, they can/will recommend the different slaws that works best with the different protein options. I had to go against the grain because I don't like spicy slaw but they were delicious either way. I recommend it! Quite reasonable prices and do let them spritz the top liberally with Sriracha too! Great craft beer on tap too, I'm quite a fan. On weekday lunches the wait has been quite short, only a handful of peeps ahead of me in line. I cannot even imagine the craziness on the weekend lol. And at lunch they knock $2 off the tacos, 3 for just $7. A beer is $6, recently pouring Flying Dog Gonzo porter which was a great match with the Ssam tacos. That long-cooked pork was excellent, meltingly soft and tasty. Takorean sounds like a really good idea, but in the end, it just did not pan out. The seasoning on the meats isn't very well implemented. This is a shame because you really miss out on one of the best aspects of Korean cooking. Next, there is entirely too much greens on the taco to the point where you can taste the meat even less. They may as well be veggie tacos. The sauces lack any depth or creativity and lastly, the tortillas are cold and too grainy. I'd suggest you skip the tacos altogether and perhaps try a bowl. read more

I had such high hopes for TaKorean, but alas my expectations were definitely not met. I ordered the Bulgogi tacos with all of the toppings/sauces. I have no complaints about the service or overall ambiance (because it's located in Union Market..like what are you going to complain about, TaKorean doesn't control the building), my main complaint is with the meat itself. For any taco dish, especially one that's "fusion" you would anticipate the flavors to burst out of every element of the dish and make it its own. This didn't happen for me because my bulgogi just felt like shredded meat and wasn't as juicy as it should've been. It might have been that I got a bad batch, but still....in the food industry you would hope that the meat would be constantly circulating. Nonetheless, I'm not saying you shouldn't go here. I'm saying I've had better and my experience wasn't the greatest because I've had my fair share of delicious Korean foods. This just felt like Americanized Korean food, but I mean Asian Fusion. I dropped by Union Market for some flavorful, inventive eats, and I was excited about the idea of a taco place with Korean flavors. However, I didn't get the Korean punch that I was hoping for out of these tacos. The beef was way too sweet, and I didn't care for it at all. That stinks, considering it costs $1 more. The meat on its own really doesn't really have the garlicky, zesty flavor punch of Korean food or the kick of Mexican food. The pork and chicken meat fillings were overall tasty, but not nearly flavorful enough to pull any real Korean flavor. There were Korean seasonings used, but not to a great enough degree to taste Korean at all. Although tasty, both the chicken and beef had some off taste. It wasn't bad meat off, but flavor imbalance off. As for the toppings, the lettuce slaw was pretty bland and did not add much at all. The kimchi was more flavorful, but definitely not like kimchi, but it added some much-needed flavor and dimension to the tacos. I only got one sauce on my tacos, the lime crema, but I would strongly recommend against forgoing the hot sauce because the meat on its own doesn't have any zip. The lime crema was simple and needed hot sauce for contrast. I tasted my husband's taco with the hot sauce, and that was much better. The sesame seeds didn't appear toasted, so you really couldn't taste it at all. The kale slaw looked good, so I wish that I went with that over the lettuce slaw that was recommended for the chicken. The service was friendly and super quick, and the price was fair. I was glad that they used corn tortillas so that I could eat them, since I am gluten-intolerant. However, the corn flavor was not overpowering or bitter, so those who usually eat flour would still enjoy it. I appreciated them doubling up on the tortillas. Overall, with more sauces, the tacos were enjoyable, but nothing that I would seek out. I prefer the Asian fusion tacos that we have here in Richmond. I didn't get the avocado crema because I thought it contained dairy, but according to TaKorean's website, it is vegan. I did get the peach Running Byrd Tea though. The peach flavor's kind of strong, so I probably wouldn't get it again, but it was refreshing and lasted me the whole day.
