Bund Up was a bit small in size for me, each bun was enough to take 2 big bites to wolf down, which was underwhelming. The freshness was also a bit lacking including the toppings. I was hoping it was made to order but instead, it was scooped out of a warmer, pre made for who knows how long. If only the toppings were fresher and the size was larger, It would have made up for it. The taste was not completely there for me, if this is going to be bite size and $5 each, it better be more of a complex flavor. I cannot say that it was bad, just could be better. Try adding some fresh toppings and pour it on, so it doesn't look so small.

Stopped here while bouncing around the Union Square Market. Ordered three buns (2 bulgogi and 1 pork belly), as well as a water and ginger ale. The buns came out fairly quick and they were very good. Would have liked to have a better seat to enjoy them, but we just found an adjacent ledge and posted up. Would recommend as a stop while walking around the marketplace.

I stopped by this spot in Union Market today after leaving FreshFarm, and unfortunately the food was a complete miss for me. I ordered the bun combo with Korean Beef Bulgogi, Shredded Pork Belly, and Sweet Soy Fried Chicken -- and honestly, I can't believe I ate it. As other reviewers mentioned, the buns are small. I didn't take any pictures or videos because I wasn't enjoying any of it, and hunger had me hoping maybe the next one will be better. That moment never came. The bao bun itself tasted stale -- dry on the outside, soft inside, but overall not fresh. This is not a made-to-order place, so keep that in mind. The meats sit in silver warming containers, and the quality reflects that. The bulgogi lacked flavor entirely. I've bought pre-marinated bulgogi from H Mart that tasted far better; this reminded me more of steakums. The sauce was watery and didn't cling to the meat. The "shredded" pork belly wasn't shredded at all -- just sliced, extremely fatty, and unpleasant. And the sweet soy fried chicken was basically a nugget with sauce poured on top. If you want good, flavorful, freshly made bao buns, skip this place altogether and walk over to Meecha Noodle Bar around the corner -- they never miss. Only thing I have to show for today is the receipt... unfortunately, it's also the only proof of how I wasted my money.

    Beef & miso chicken.

This place is such a ripoff. $15 for basically bread. One tiny piece of chicken and a shred of beef. Never going back!

We were in the area with family and decided to get food from Union Market. I was feeling something light and Asian, so decided to get some buns. The buns tasted great.

3 Bun Combo: Sweet Soy Fried Chicken, Shrimp and Tofu

Dodging through the crowd at Union Market, I found Bun'd Up and got pulled in by the allure of soft Chinese bao buns filled with Korean goodies. I got the Three Bun Combo with Fried Chicken (sweet soy), Fried Shrimp, and Fried Tofu. The buns came out hot and steaming, with each filling freshly prepped and ready to eat. The fried ingredients were still crispy, not wet and mushy, and the pickled veggies added the crispiness and sweet side. Can't decide which one was my favorite, which only means I'll have to try this place again. If you're at Union Market, stop by Bun'd Up - you won't be disappointed!

From L to R: Shredded Pork Belly, Korean BBQ Beef (Bulgogi), Spicy Fried Chicken

I've visited Bun'd up a few times and it's pretty good. On my recent visit, I got six buns: two each of Spicy Fried Chicken, Korean BBQ Beef (Bulgogi), and Shredded Pork Belly. Each bun was a few bites. The buns themselves were very tender, and the fillings were very flavorful and colorful. I liked each about equally. Avoid the pork belly if you don't like pineapple. The chicken patties were a little dry but still ok. I ordered through Uber Eats and the standard price was $5 per bun, but they were running a 1/2 off deal so my total was $16.50 after tax. I think $5 per bun is pretty expensive. You need at least three buns to make a medium size lunch meal. I would pay maybe $12 total. Bun'd up is a small, basic stall in Union Market. My food was ready when I got there, about 15 min after ordering. Not much to say in the way of service or ambiance.

This was a lot smaller than expected, but we understand it's usually ordered as a trio for a meal. The chicken was a lot larger in the photo. This very mild and sweet in terms of flavor, we didn't really pick up a distinct spice despite our specification. But overall, the bun was soft and pillowy with a mellow sweetness, the slaw complimented the friend chicken, and the burst of scallion made it more cohesive. We wish there was a larger bite of chicken to taste in each bite, since we got more slaw and scallion in our order.

Very tasty! Grabbed the bulgogi, pork belly, and shrimp bao buns. Delicious! Great bang for the buck and made fresh to order. Quick and seamless process. Will definitely stop back if I'm in the area and in the mood for good bao buns.

I LOVE this place! The food is always made fresh to order and packed with the best flavors! Shout out to Lou who is always so nice and sweet! He never gets my order wrong and he's always so nice when I have special request lol! The vibe here is cool since there are so many fun varieties to choose from. I've never had anything nasty, EVERYTHING on the menu is worth trying and has amazing flavor. Definitely going back and recommending to everyone I know!

I've had their bao buns in the other VA location but this spot was solid too. I was already full from eating at different places within the Union market, so ordered one bao and it was the pork belly. Came out within 10 mins, super tasty, with the pineapple doing a lot of work to bring in that extra sweetness. Glad to have tried them again.

So good & flavorful! I didn't visit the actual restaurant, I stopped at their vendor stand during a weekday farmers market for lunch. The line was long so I automatically assumed they were good, right? lol. Well they were!

(RATING 3.5 stars) Decided to try out Bun'd Up while visiting Union Market on my most recent trip to D.C. I'm a sucker for a good bao bun sandwich and Bun'd Up had some great flavors to choose from off of their menu. Staff were patient with questions and were professional during interactions. I ended up ordering the two chicken buns. They were okay; not bad. Bun'd Up's offering is unique to all of Union Market, so that alone makes it worth the stop. My order consisted of their 2 for $11 special (singular buns cost $6). As noted above, I ordered the two chicken buns: Spicy Fried Chicken and Sweet Soy Fried Chicken. The buns themselves were a great texture and cooked perfectly, although a little small. Definitely the highlight to the sandwich as it should, based on their name. The chicken pieces were sized proportionally to the buns. The respective sauces for each chicken piece tasted good, but the chicken pieces I received did not seem to have an even coating of the sauce leaving various parts of the chicken dry. The coleslaw added a nice crunch and a bit of freshness to the buns. Perhaps an asian slaw may have complemented the taste better with the bun flavors. Again, nothing abysmal to the buns in terms of taste. They were average, especially for the price point. Perhaps my expectations were too high or I caught them on an off day. Bun'd Up has a great offering they're bringing to Union Market patrons and they are worth a try if you're curious about this type of take on the traditional bao buns. I might recommend trying other buns that aren't the chicken ones as this may elevate the taste and quality for you.

Tucked into the heart of Dupont Circle with its unmistakable bright blue awning, the restaurant is intimate, moody, and always buzzing. It's not a huge space, which only adds to its charm and makes every reservation feel like a win. The atmosphere is perfect for sharing dishes and lingering over dinner with friends. The food was incredible...I genuinely loved every single bite. Just be prepared: the Sichuan spice is no joke! If you aren't expecting it, it'll definitely sneak up on you (in the best way). My must-orders? The chili wontons, Dan Dan noodles, and beef noodles. Every dish was packed with bold flavor and left me wanting to come back for more. If you've been trying to score a reservation, keep at it. Astoria is one of those places that's absolutely deserving of its reputation, and I'll be thinking about those noodles until my next visit.

Inside had small tables and a kinda casual cocktail bar vibe Beef Noodles - the highlight and actually very good! The noodles are long and handmade and chewy. They hold onto the sauce very well! The sauce has a slight kick and is very savory. The beef is soft and also flavorful! I feel the price for the portion is kinda expensive though 8/10 Chili wontons - skin is silky and soft, sauce is savory with a small kick as well! Even though the sauces look similar to beef noodle they taste very different. The fillings had good flavor and overall were good but were a bit tougher and dryer than I would prefer. 6/10 Crab fried rice - crab is slightly overcooked but naturally sweet. It has a light curry taste throughout and was pretty good but didn't really stand out 5.5/10 Mapo tofu - slight kick and nice savory taste in the sauce! However I think they cut the tofu pieces way too large or the tofu they chose had way too much tofu flavor that overpowers the sauce. I'd prefer a very light silky tofu but this was a soft tofu. 6/10 Vpod - at first it just tasted like orange juice but then the other flavors peek through on the after taste and when I mixed it more. Even though it was good, it still felt very basic 5/10 Philadelphia Scotsman - it's pretty ginger forward. Technically the level of ginger spice is fine but strong but then the rest of the drink got completely overpowered and so this just wasn't that great 2.5/10

The beer was ice cold and crisp. To start, we ordered the mandu and two orders of the chikin. For our mains, we had the pork rib & kimchi fried rice and the dolsot bibimbap. Everything was delicious. My only critique is that some of the dishes could have benefited from just a touch more salt to really make the flavors pop. The restaurant itself is small, quaint, and feels very homey. I loved the family-style setup and how easy it was to share dishes and move things around the table so everyone could try a little of everything. Kanpai is in a prime place along Rockville Pike, but depending on when you go you may find easy parking. (If you're not bothered about where to park, ignore what I just said.) Out front there's something that looks like a tuk-tuk or rickshaw. Tbh, don't know if it's theirs or the business next door. The restaurant itself is clean and elegant. Also, not as loud as some Korean BBQs (thinking of KPOT off of Randolph Rd), which is important if you don't like being overwhelmed by everyone else's noise. That is one big '+' in Kanpai's favor. The waiter was cool and very helpful. Because of him I now know what the thin meat slices are meant for (which is for the soup), before then I had no clue. The food itself is good. Like, why wouldn't it be? I actually prefer the shabu-shabu (soup), makes me wish I knew how to do that myself so I wouldn't have to go out as much. Yes, the grill meats were great, as was the kimchi. These places are not cheap, but it was enjoyable while I was there. If you're not in a rush you can go a few doors down afterward to an import store selling everything from K-chips to puzzle-kits. So I would say...take your time. But don't warm your seats for more than 90 minutes, as Korean BBQs tend to kick people out (nicely, nicely) if one overstays. P.S. I'm sure they have some great drinks there, but even if I wanted to I couldn't loiter. That's what Bethesda is for. (Or at least how it used to be.)

California Maki - 6/10 - my least favorite thing here. It wasn't awful but it didn't compare to the other things we had. Drinks - I WISH I could remember the name of the drink I had. Hands down one of the best drinks I've ever had and was paired with sparkling sake. Bathe me in sparkling sake, put a bottle in my casket, I want it with me forever. I would come back for sure but would opt to sit at the bar. It would definitely be easier to speak to someone sitting next to you than across from you. For the price you will not get full here but if you want to share some small bites of new food this is absolutely your spot.
