90 minute wait after being seated for chef to arrive. Some problem with the ticket led to another 5-10 minute delay as the chef had to get more protein and fried rice, and making sure that everyone knew that the waitress had screwed up. We had three kids with us who had never been to hibachi and the chef was just off the presentation game tonight (no choo choo onion train, no banter, no tossing rice, etc.), but the food was really well prepared and tasty. Unfortunately the delay and the resulting confusion tainted the experience for us significantly. Our waitress Allegra was extremely apologetic but they didn't have enough chefs to handle the load tonight and there was nothing she could do about that. Very disappointed with our experience at Takumi. My family and I arrived at 2:02 PM, but we were told, "We stop serving hibachi at 2:00 PM," and were refused service--even though their posted hours say they close at 2:30 PM. If hibachi stops 30 minutes before closing, that should be clearly stated on the sign or online so customers don't waste their time driving there. Closing at 2:30 should mean customers can expect to be served until then, or at least be informed of any earlier kitchen cutoff. This was frustrating and left a bad first impression. read more

Came here on Christmas day for dinner. The hostess were very welcoming once I walked through the doors. I know hibachi is usually for large parties, so I sat at the bar. My first time at Hibachi and I could NOT have asked for anything better. This was absolutely incredible. My server was Justin, and he was so sweet and welcoming! I ordered a Shirakiku Japanese soda in lychee- and it was actually ice cold. Our appetizers were fast, and the salad and mushroom soup were great. A minute after, the chef for our group walked in. Tom was our chef, and he made sure our food was delicious and that we were laughing the whole time. From cracking jokes to tossing rice in people's mouths to setting things on fire, this is definitely one of the top experiences I've ever had. I ordered the Hibachi Salmon and Chicken Combo with Hibachi Fried Rice. Literally immaculate. The food was cooked perfectly, my family's steaks being cooked to order as well. The flavor was spot on, and the yum-yum sauce is to die for, especially when paired with their spicy sauce. If you're in the area, this place is definitely worth the stop. Sad to see it, but I echo recent reviews that this place has struggled to maintain the standard they had when they first opened. On a recent visit solo at a time they were not busy at all, waited literally 15 minutes after being seated to finally flag down a server myself to take my order. In the meantime, I watched the servers fully ignoring me, waiting around, doing nothing (talking to each other by the bar) or doing trivial things like straightening the salt and pepper on tables. It seems the server later forgot about my food so waited a long time for my food to actually come as well. On this recent visit, the food was still good but in past recent visits it's been inconsistent and is sometimes overly salty or not seasoned properly at all. I've learned to always double check my check here because there is a waitress who has messed up my check not once, not twice, but multiple times. When this place hits, it's amazing, but it's struggling to do that consistently these days. read more

So... it's been a few years since posting on Takumi Hibachi.... And this review is just as great as the last; but I took a picture this time instead of eating it all. I have been coming back multiple times over the last 2 years for bday celebrations and a quiet lunch once in a while by myself. The sushi is just as fresh and delicious as it was 2 years ago. The hibachi experience is fun but my true appreciation lies in the fish. They have the best lunch sushi deals around and the highest quality at that price. Will keep returning. Thanks Takumi. Had high hopes when we made reservations. Horrible website is the first issue. Order, reservations, hours are all wrong and don't work. Got there at 11a for our lunch res. Waited 10min for anyone to come to the desk. They were not ready. Sat at our table and another 15min before the server came. Chef wasn't even there, and finally got to the table at 12:15. He had zero personality, not friendly. Constantly turned head to cough (yuck). $3 extra for fried rice, which he overcooked. They charge if you want to take sauce with you to go order. The gyoza I'd rate 8/10, only because I personally prefer a different cooking style than the oil-fried version. The Japanese soda (Ramune) was a fun touch--it came in a 6.7 fl.oz bottle, which felt a little small for a 'large.' I would have appreciated a little help opening it or having it poured into a cup since the bottle can be tricky. The hibachi experience is certainly entertaining, and the food is good. We found the service was somewhat inattentive, and more attention should be paid to cleaning. This was our first visit, so we opted for a seat at one of the hibachi tables rather than the regular tables. While this was entertaining and fun, in the future I would sit at a regular table on the assumption you would get all your food at one time. With the hibachi we opted for fried rice, so that was made first and then served onto our plates. While we were eating the fried rice (so it wouldn't get cold) the chef cooked the vegetables and served them. So we naturally started eating the vegetables while the chef cooked the meat. By the time the meat was served I was mostly done with the rice and vegetables, and starting to feel a little full. So the flow wasn't great, but the experience was certainly entertaining. The food was good, but not great. We had filet mignon, which was tender but didn't have much flavor (but they do put a yummy sauce on the table, which helped). I also had shrimp, which were good. We plan to try the sushi next time in the hopes that it will be more impressive. The space is quite large, with a huge television in the main dining area with the hibachi area in a separate room that has rollup doors that don't open anymore (they were left over from the restaurant that used to occupy the space). The menus we were given had oil or grease on them, and that got transferred to our plates that the hostess put the menus on. Those ended up being the plates they put our food on, which was a bit unappetizing. While the hibachi experience was fun, I wouldn't opt for that again. Fortunately they do have a pretty wide selection on the menu, so we'll give them another chance in the future and hope for a better experience. My family has been going to Takumi at least monthly for the last couple of years. The food is solid. It's not waygu, it's not superb cuisine, but it's solid and consistent. The service is good enough - also consistent. My kids love the robots, they love the "smoke" stack, they love the experience. I like that it's laid back, informal, and easy to just chill. My husband and I have lived all over the country and know Michelin Star cuisine. If you pay Hibachi prices, and you get a consistently decent experience, and the family is happy, it's worth 5 stars. Now, for the food. The food is very fresh and the hibachi overall was good; the sushi flavor is nice. The seasoning could use a boost and the tempura was dry and hard. Our group wanted dessert, and was originally offered ice cream or cheesecake, but then the offer was withdrawn and we were told it was only for birthdays. That was disappointing. Why offer if you don't have it? They then came back with "birthday cheesecake" for the kids to split. We appreciated it but the whole thing was a little odd. Overall, though, pretty good. Takumi Hibachi is a fairly new addition to the Franklin/Cool Springs food scene, and just opened at the beginning of 2023. It is located in the shopping plaza on Cool Springs Boulevard alongside Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Drake's, and much more. Given it's location, parking is plentiful. Takumi is mainly known for their hibachi, but they also have a full sushi bar! So, if you are interested in sushi and a cocktail, they got you...or if you are like me and want sushi, sake and hibachi...they also got you! We had a group of 9 coming in on a Tuesday evening, so we called and made a reservation. Heads up that they will not seat your party until they all arrive, and if they do allow it, they will need everyone's food order before being sat. This is done to keep the show moving, and I can respect it. Lucky for us, our party was all arriving together, so we got to belly up to the hibachi table immediately! To start, several of the group ordered appetizers including yakitori chicken, edamame, gyoza and a couple of sushi rolls to share. They came out fairly quickly and were served by a robot! Such a cool little dude delivering the goods to us on multiple occasions! For dinner, we of course all got hibachi, and of course in multiple variations including chicken, shrimp, steak and scallops. The hibachi is served with all the standards including clear soup, ginger salad, rice, veggies, protein and of course, a show! Average Hibachi price is around $27 pp. To wash all the food down, several of us got a combination of cold and hot sakes, along with a few Kirin's and cocktails. I've now been here twice, once for sushi lunch, with girlfriends, and the other for hibachi dinner with my husband. Very glad there is an additional option for both in the cool Springs area. How could you not love a place that has a robot that will deliver your entrée sometimes, not sure when it's the robot, and when it's the human, but I also witnessed the robot singing happy birthday to a young lady at our hibachi table.
