Yes yes yes, this place is my PLACE. Have ordered from their Thai menu a handful of times and was always very happy with it: food delicious, ready on time, etc. But, just got sushi tonight and whoa. It's delicious, high quality, portions are very generous, and they added free edamame! Please order from here- they are great and should stay in business! I sincerely regret not tipping for my pickup order but I'll make up for it next time. Which will probably be very soon. Ok back to eating :) read more

Today was a really good day. Got the chance to catch up with a great friend and enjoy a really good lunch. My lunch date selected the location, we had the pleasure of dining at Talay Chicago located in the West Loop area. Every knows I'm not a fan of Sushi or Thai however with growth and maturity anyone can change including me. This place is nice, clean and quiet. Good prompt service, excellent food and a warm atmosphere. Considering that I've had bad experiences in the past I kept my selections simple. I dined on Chicken Fried Rice and Cashew Chicken, large lunch portions (larger than I thought it would be for lunch) and very good. I'm planning on returning to try the Garlic Noodles as well as Pad See Eiw. If I had to say anything negative it would be the lack of parking options, good thing I work in the West Loop and can walk just two blocks from my job to enjoy a good meal read more

I have had their sushi the Godzilla roll many times and it's pretty decent, even the spicy tuna is better than average. However I will never order the seafood fried rice again they use imitation crab meat and the texture of all the veggies is less than to be desired. Since this is my bffs favorite sushi spot close to her home I will have no choice but to return, so it looks like I will not be venturing far from the sushi and crab ragoons. read more

The food was pretty good and most of the dishes are reasonably priced. We ordered spring rolls for appetizers, keep in mind one order is only 2 rolls thought that was too expensive. For the main course we ordered the pad thai with tofu and asked to make it spicy but it was still on the sweeter side. We also ordered the Shitake Mushroom rolls and the specialty "idaho" Veggie tempura roll, which were really good! The sushi portions are decent. The atmosphere is relaxed and the place is clean! I came in on a Wednesday evening and ordered the Pad Kee Mao with fried tofu. The food came quickly, within ~7 minutes. The tofu was perfectly fried, and the rice noodles had a great texture. The sauce was a bit light for my liking, but overall it was a pleasant dish. Would come again. read more

I highly recommend the sushi at this place - without a doubt, it's the best in the west loop. The portions are large; the prices are great; the sushi is fresh; and the staff is courteous. I suggest trying any of the salmon rolls - I believe they are some of the best in the city. By the way, some old reviews list this place as BYOB. I don't believe that's the case anymore. If you're hoping for BYOB, I'd call in advance, just to be sure. read more

I've been here at least 4 times and they never disappoint. The sushi is always fresh and the portion sizes are larger than any sushi restaurant I have tried in Chicago. Talay is a BYOB which is always a bonus, but if you forget wine they sell it there at a very reasonable price. The staff in really friendly and the service is excellent! read more

We live directly across the street and are SO lucky to have Talay so close by! My fiancé and I order from here at least once a week, it takes only 15-20 minutes for the whole order to be prepared, and we always get noodles, sushi, and miso that are among the best we've had in Chicago. Everyone is always so welcoming and friendly when we walk in, even throughout the stress of this pandemic, and they ALWAYS throw in free edamame, which is such a nice gesture. If you live in the area, do yourself a favor and make Talay your go-to for Thai and sushi! read more

Talay is my favorite sushi spot in the West Loop. I usually go for sashimi and the more simple rolls, and they have the freshest fish and most generous portions. Delivery is usually faster than they say too, which is always exciting. read more

Went there for lunch. Had a sumptuous meal. Ordered rice noodles a red curry and Tempura. The sweet potato Tempura with chocolate sauce on top was tasty. The portions were optimal. All four of us were vegans. We got to our taste - without meat and fish stork & oil. Good. read more

After searching long and hard for brown rice sushi for delivery in the Ukrainian Village/West Town area to no avail, we took a chance on Talay, asking if they would deliver to us, although we were a little bit out of their zone. They agreed, and the food came when they said it would, on a Saturday night within an hour. Our first taste of the mod roll, ebi avocado, and shrimp avocado rolls spoke all we would need it to. The fish was fresh, it tasted delicious, and there was a very satisfying fish to rice ratio. We paid a little more for delivery, and tipped the driver nicely. We are out of their normal delivery zone, but we really hope that every time we call, they will be able to deliver to us. I grew up in Flushing, New York, with no shortage of good Asian cuisine. Talay definitely reminds me of something that I would get back at home in terms of preparation, presentation, and quality. Update from the next day: my wife got sick from the brown rice, which was not really brown rice (her body can not process processed/enriched grains well), but the food was still delicious. If anyone knows of a good sushi place that uses full grain brown rice, please let us know. read more

I love this place. I had Pad See Eiw with chicken. It's the best Pad See Eiw in Chicago. I really enjoyed eating it. The price was reasonable and the portion was huge. I was going to order some sushi but after I saw the big portion, I changed my mind. The server was very nice and friendly, she kept checking on me several times. Not only the server was nice but also all the staff in the restaurant were nice to me as well. While I was leaving the restaurant, everyone said bye to me. I'd recommend anyone who's looking for a nice Thai restaurant to try this place. I can't wait to go back and try more stuff on the menu. read more

We got the Panang Curry and Chicken Pad Thai. The curry was too sweet (I honestly think basi Thai has a better panang). The pad Thai didn't have much in it besides the noodles but the level of spice was interesting. Just kinda underwhelming of a meal recommended by a coworker. Great place! Kind of a hidden spot on a busy street, but the service and food made up for the location. We asked to be seated outside seeing that the day was nice and the hostess had no objectives.. The food was fast and of course it was amazing! I ordered the Talay Crunch sushi while my fiancé ordered the orange chicken, which she says was one the best in Chicago. I'm a vegetarian and the Idaho roll is literally the best sushi roll I've ever had. They have a good selection of food. The veggie potstickers were really good too, we also had the curry fried rice and the pad kee mao, also solid choices. Ambience was nice and romantic and the prices were really reasonable which is rare. Definitely a place of come back with a few or large group! Only downside was a slightly strange smell wafting our way but this place was still a standout! read more

Had the Idaho roll. It was a great vegetarian roll. The red curry was great too. It was very thin but very flavorful.

Nice sushi and Thai spot. The sushi is great, we had the talay crunch. It was a huge roll and very tasty. The tom kha soup had too much lemon juice in it, def had better. Solid delivery option. I have tried their miso soup, Penang curry (my favourite), fried rice (close 2nd), pad Thai, ginger chicken and red curry chicken - all of which hit the spot each time. I am not a fan of their gyoza though. Warm food is usually within 45 minutes. Why does it get 3 stars - because it falls short compared to my numerous meals in Thailand. read more

Ordered delivery from here for dinner. Food was delivered in a very reasonable time. Food was just okay. Nothing special about the sushi that I would want to order from here again. The special rolls were very big and almost impossible to eat in one bite. We also tried a few appetizers and fried rice which were just okay as well. read more

The food and prices are on point. My wife and I drove by twice and didn't have the guts go in because there was no one there. We kept checking yelp and all the reviews were good. We decided to give it a try. When we arrived it (Saturday night about 7pm) there were about 5 people there. We grabbed a seat outside. It's BYOB. The menu is extensive and offers tons of great things. We ordered the crab rangoon. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! You have to get this!!! No corking fee either so we enjoyed some wine as we then ate our entrees . Wife had the beef pad thai and I had three different sushi rolls. Two were specialty rolls. Sorry I'm writing this review about three days after we went. THe prices are reasonable and the service was good. I noticed that once we sat down many people walked past us and asked us how the food is. It seems the community really just hasnt given it a shot. A few couples literally stopped mid walk and detroured to the restaurant once they saw us in there. I don't know what used to be here but whatever used to be here it seems that the community has strong loyalties to the prior business. I say out with the old in with the new. I ate at Butterfly which is right down the street and I can tell you this place puts it to shame. It's going to take some people to probably have a few nights of low attendance but if you can get over that you'll really enjoy yourself. read more

We were expecting much more based on the previous reviews. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either. We ordered the spring rolls, which themselves had no flavor. They weren't helped by being covered in a sticky sauce that was only sweet. We made our own dipping sauce of soy sauce and hot sauce which was the only thing that rescued them. My wife ordered the garlic shrimp which was inoffensive but not great by any stretch of the imagination. My pad woon sen was tasty - really the only truly good dish of the night. Service was friendly and fast, but we were stunned by the lack of knowledge the staff had of the menu. Our server (and several people she asked) didn't know if the egg rolls were wrapped in rice paper or a wheat wrapper, and she didn't know if the spring rolls were vegetarian. Just had pickup for lunch with my wife. We got 2 veggie egg rolls (fairly good as egg rolls go), Panang Curry, and Pad See Eiw. The Panang curry tasted more like red curries I'm used to, and had less of the distinctive flavor I expect from Panang. Not terrible, but underwhelming. The Pad See Eiw, however, was actually pretty poor. Very lacking in flavor, as it seemed they used maybe 1/3 the sauce that most places would use. It was almost plain noodles. Serving sizes were much smaller than other places - more in line with what someone should actually be eating for a meal, rather than the humongous sizes that leave you feeling stuffed and miserable should you finish them in one go. read more
