Ah man. As someone who is very picky with food, especially Thai, talay is probably my favorite spot. I go to school at UIC so finding good spots to eat around here is my favorite thing. Talay's Pad Thai is amazing, probably the best I've had and isn't the most expensive I've had. Located on Madison and Racine so.m very convenient. Parking on the street is very helpful as well. They are fairly quick with orders, nice restaurant, and friendly. read more

Delicious! The food was great. The special Maki roll we had for an appetizer was well constructed, tasty, and big enough for two (or more !). The Tom Kha soup was tart and flavorful. We had the duck curry and it was excellent. I was surprised that it had plantains in it. Turns out they taste great in curry. We also had a fish dish with a heavenly sauce. The service was OK. This place has a delicious and fresh fish selection with beautiful presentation of signature sushi rolls. We had: Fish patty and mini egg rolls appetizers, a signature roll and a few maki rolls, orange chicken entre and tofu panang curry entre. Everything was filled with flavor, especially the salmon nigiri and curry. Quick, friendly, the best quality sushi in the area, BYOB, and they deliver. Only negative is they charge $1-1.50 more per item if you order delivery through Door Dash. Whats up with that? This place honestly surprised me a lot. #1 just walking in it had a cute, almost Nashville vibe but also brought out the Asian/Japanese style in a romantic but also "chill" way. Never really seen anything quite like it when it comes to a sushi place. #2 service was great #3 the food was delicious. We got the Emerald and the Sea sushi rolls (along with others that were great too) but the presentation of these rolls were fantastic. Ordered the pad kee mao (crazy/drunken noodles) with extra basil and spice - which is what I always do when I go to a Thai restaurant somewhat catered to a Western crowd. It had good flavor, but texture was slightly lacking since the noodles were limp and not all that chewy/springy. Nevertheless, I still had a good meal because I doused the noodles with the chili (or hot sauce as Americans call it) that they had as a side on each table. FANTASTIC!!! I have eaten there numerous times over the past few months and their food is excellent. Everything from the servers, to the food, to the cooks, screams delicious and authentic. I have tried several dishes, and never been disappointed (Siam Chicken is a must!) Their sushi menu is quite expansive, and have many traditional rolls, as well as some unique maki options. The sushi rolls are always fresh and large in size. The woman who owns the place is always present, and willing to answer questions and give suggestions. A West Loop gem! read more

I would give this zero stars if allowed. The Crab Rangoon to start was tasteless and soggy. I didn't even finish the first one I took. And I finish everything!! The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew followed similar suit. Nothing had any flavor and the noodles and Tofu were very poorly prepared, soggy and over done all at once. I am of the belief that's it takes a lot of effort to ruin Pad Thai. This dish having lived in Chi for 5 years was hands down the worst Pad Thai I have ever tasted in the city. So the bottomline -if you're looking for a Thai restaurant that is light on the flavor and seems to excel at skimping on the good stuff. Wow. You're in luck. I don't get other reviews for Talay! This is SOLID Thai place in the West Loop. I live down the street and love getting take out from here. The space itself is huge and brand new inside, so I recommend coming to stay as well. I ate here for lunch a few weeks ago excited that a new thai place had opened. I had the beef pad thai and tom yum soup. I was hoping for the best, but had a really bad experience. The service was slow and took forever, which i didn't mind because they just recently opened. I tend judge a thai restaurant by their pad thai...it was pretty boring and a little on the fishy flavor. I found the Tom Yum soup to be absolutely vile. it tasted like lemon zest soaked in vegetable oil... really awful. The two items totaled $18. Pretty disappointing. I was excited to learn that there was a promising Thai restaurant in West Loop when I moved to the area a few weeks ago. Being a lover of Thai food, I jumped at the chance to try out two of Talay's Thai curries. I placed a carryout order of the Panang Curry and Yellow Curry, both with chicken. The waitstaff were very friendly and had my order ready in about 15 minutes. I appreciated the fact that I was able to choose between white or brown steamed rice. Both of the curries, however, were very disappointing. As someone who has tried numerous Thai curries from a variety of restaurants, I'm convinced that Talay adds heaps of sugar to their curries as they both were sweet to the point that they were difficult to eat. They lacked a variety of vegetables and seasonings - all I could taste was sugar. The yellow curry had carrots (maybe sweet potatoes?) that were very mushy and didn't add anything to the dish. The Panang curry lacked the distinct flavor one would expect, as it tasted like a thick, overly sweet peanut soup. Don't think I will be trying out Talay again, at least as far as curries go. read more

Some of the most beautiful sushi I have ever seen. We ordered a Tuna Lover Special Roll, the Tekka Avocado Roll, and a Philadelphia Roll. All were fresh. The Miso soup was flavorful and had lots of tofu bits. The Moo Ping pork appetizer was sweet and tasty. Prices were very reasonable. We did not try the Thai food, with the exception of the Thai Iced Tea, which was the only negative of the evening meal with a bitter flavor. read more
