Surpurb service for me and my mom when we visited the store. Would absolutely come back

The customer service is wonderful at this store but I do not like that they have changed locations for the petite and plus sections. This was always my favorite and "go-to" store but now I find that the petite section is much smaller and there is not as much selection as before. They seem to be focusing on larger women's sizes and that may be because there are so many larger people these days. read more

Fine experience although usually busy sales staff. Like everywhere, there are times when the staff can help a lot and times when they are busier. always pleasant. even when I had to take a call outside, they just held my return and handled it well. I am careful with my receipts though. read more

Alexandria confuses me and I don't know the city at all, but I had been in this store once 5 years ago, and decided to stop in again for the Red Hanger sale. Arrived right as they were opening today and was greeted at the door by Rachel who is as nice as can be. She asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and I told her maybe some skirts for work, cardigans, shoes.... you know, anything that I like, pretty much. She put a few things I found right away into a dressing room and even laid out the shoes for me in there. Seriously, out of the box and just waiting to be tried on. Awesome! I wound up with a skirt and three sweaters, and she definitely made the whole trip what Talbots is all about: quality. Thanks Rachel!!! read more

I know, I know. Shopping at Talbot's sort of makes you feel like your own WASPy grandmother. But the reality is, with places like Ann Taylor Loft and Banana Republic getting downright casual in their 'work clothes' offerings, Talbot's remains a consistent - if not cheap - place to find polished, professional looking clothing, as well as some more dressed up off-hours options. I'd give Talbots as a brand four stars. However, this store sort of drives me crazy. My first issue has become less pronounced over the 5yrs I've shopped at this location, but when I was in my mid-20s, I'd get completely blown off by the sales staff here. Apparently hitting 30 this year made me visible to the naked eye of the Talbots employee. Yay? The typical approach seems to be to ignore the young, smother the well-preserved. If you fall in the middle, you might get a drive by, half-hearted attempt at customer service. My main issue is that I am a speed shopper and Talbots simply will not move any faster than Kristen Bell's rented sloth. I come in knowing what I want, and what size I am. I pick it out and if I'm feeling patient, I might even try it on. Then I decide and I go to the cash wrap. The only issue is - despite having a petites, plus and regular store within this location with plenty of sales staff on the floor, there is inevitably only one woman actually ringing customers up and it takes FOREVER. Part of me appreciates the customer service attention, but most of me just wants to get on with my darn day. Inevitably, when I finally get to the front of the line, I have to be looked up in the system and asked three times - it gets pushy - whether I'd like to put this on my Talbots charge card. (No thanks!) It's exhausting and it feels like having low tea with your mother in law instead of just paying for a scarf. Don't go in here when you're in a hurry. On the other hand, if you aren't under 30, have some time to waste and a few hundred dollars to spend, you might have an enjoyable experience. read more

I shop here or shopped here quite a bit. I stopped in the other day while running around in my workout gear and couldn't get anyone to even offer to help me except the fine lady who works in the Womens' section. I was going to purchase a couple of new outfits but changed my mind. I took several items into the dressing room and the staff actually veered to get out of my way like I had the plague. I spoke with the manager to let her know and she said she was sorry ( I think she really was.) It will require some consideration before I go back. It is a beautiful store but if such discrimination is made based on what I walk in wearing - clean black t-shirt and running shorts- how many sales are they missing out on because of poor customer service? Doesn't everyone deserve good customer service? read more

Like so many other reviewers, I am tired of the sales ladies' rudeness and inattentiveness. I am retired, usually already dressed in Talbots clothes when I go there and "look the part", if you know what I mean. I shop here a lot and have seldom encountered a helpful sales lady. They range from oblivious to downright condescending. They are sales clerks, for Heaven's sake! Who are they to look down on customers as if they don't want us to join their country club??? Next time I am letting the manager know what I think. read more

Really appalled by customer service here today. Stopped in with my sister who was looking for a new winter coat. The staff couldn't have been less helpful. I don't know if it was because we were younger than the usual clientele, or because we were in workout gear (as another reviewer noted), but it as if they were avoiding answering our questions and trying to pass us off to one another. Then we saw the staff member we originally asked for help, who never returned to us, walking right past us leaving the store, and avoiding eye contact. I shopped for a belt here for my mother-in-law a couple of years ago, and left with a similarly bad taste in my mouth. Now I remember why I haven't been back. Beautifully designed and welcoming store with a generous selection of Women's Petite business and casual clothes (as well as heaps of other sizes)! I was greeted immediately (and complimented!) by a non-aggressive, warm saleswoman. She let me browse for a few minutes and then came over to ask if I was looking for anything in particular. I told her I was looking for a business wardrobe and would probably need a few hours in the store ;) She was obviously ending her shift, so she brought over Jennifer (the Manager) and introduced me, explaining what I had told her. Jennifer was incredibly knowledgeable and easy going. After explaining that I had just moved to the area, she said, "Well, I am happy to be your DC stylist!!" WOW! She spent time asking me what I thought I needed and didn't hesitate to make recommendations. I learned so much about different weights of suits, different cuts, and their whole line. The dressing room was comfortable and private. After 2 hours I left with about 12 pieces and was SO relieved as I prepared to start my new job. Jennifer also gave me a hairdresser recommendation (after I asked); 25% off my entire purchase as current customers would have received in the catalog mailing as part of her effort to build new customers, and membership in their frequent customers club. I did decide to return 3 pieces later, but they were fast and efficient with my returns. Only downside was I had pulled a necklace to purchase and that never made it home with me. Definitely will be a regular! Other MAJOR plus is that there is free and available, garaged parking at this location; AND it's on the same block as Trader Joe's!! read more

I have been to this store many times in last several years and have always received excellent and friendly customer service. BTW, I am a senior citizen and plus size, so don't fit the "ideal customer" image, but that has not been a problem with the staff. read more

One of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a long time. The sales associate helping me was extremely rude and the store has a policy that you can't get merchandise credit with a regular receipt (you need a gift receipt). She went to the manager who was going to do me a favor by allowing a one time exception. I ended up returning the shoes to my moms credit card because I didn't want to spend anymore time there and give them my sale. One associate was trying to be helpful by explaining how much people steal from them but it didn't make sense as I had the receipt. You don't create policies based on 1% of bad customers while being rude and inconvenient to your regular customer base, it's bad business. I will never purchase from this store again. read more

I had a great experience. First of all I came in dressed pretty casually and had a bunch of returns. So this is usually the least favorite thing for sales associates to handle. The lady at the register was super polite and friendly doing the returns and mentioned a sale. I looked around a bit more the the other associate was also friendly in getting a dressing room and bringing over stuff. No one was pushy and I felt like the associate was trying to find items that were the best value (Ie on sale). This branch is way more helpful than the mall ones and I would come here again. (Plus buy online since they were so good about the returns). read more

I generally like Talbots and primarily go to this store since it is only 15 minutes away from where I live. I've lived in the area for over 30 years. In recent years the sales staff's attitudes have improved and become less "elitist", but you can still walk away with a bad taste in your mouth because of how you're treated. Last night and this morning were two such times. Why did I return the next morning, after shopping there the night before? Due to carelessness--I was not charged correctly with a 40% off coupon, and needless to say, not happy for having to make an extra trip after a discouragingly bad experience the night before. The previous night while shopping, 3-4 people on the floor asked if they could help, but were unable to do so because they simply didn't have any of the clothing I wanted in stock in my size. Why, I asked? "People line up when a sale starts," I was told. It was not the first day of the sale, but I was looking for new items from their latest catalog. I was also told that online orders are filled from the store--where does that leave the in-store customer who would rather spend time ensuring that what they want also fits before they pay for it?? So, if you aren't there lining up when a sale starts, you'll just have to hope for the best, or have to join the ranks of online shoppers. Sounds like another reason why bricks and mortar stores are experiencing a retail apocalypse. After spending over 40 minutes last night scouring the entire store, including outside of my normal Petites range, I finally gave up on clothing and settled on a bracelet. That's when the poor customer service kicked in at the desk. One sales associate was helping another customer and said she'd be right with me. Another salesperson who was by the desk and not busy could have stepped in at that point, but didn't. The time with the other customer extended to over 5 minutes, at which point when finished, the first salesperson left the area entirely, completely forgetting about me and leaving me to ask the person who could have helped previously if she would now check me out. Great customer service, ladies! When I got home, I noticed the error in my bill. This morning when I returned, the person at the desk had to ask for help from a manager regarding my problem. The manager offered no apology whatsoever for what had happened the night before and for my having to come back today. Better extend that "customer service training" to the managers! It turned out that the salesperson who rang me up the night before didn't scan the barcode on a postcard that I gave her for the discounted price. Was a postcard, a Classic Rewards card and a credit card too much to handle all at once?? read more

The sales staff in this store are amazing. They mingle with the customers, ask your name, help you with clothing, set up a dressing room for you and remember your name. They make you feel like you want to buy more stuff. A great location! Oh and the garage for this store is free......the garage entrance is on Pendleton Street and there is an entrance to the store inside the garage. read more

A couple of weeks ago, I walked into my first Talbot's and was pleasantly surprised on all levels. I've been an AT lady for years but of late, their selections just aren't the most appropriate for a more traditional, classically styled career woman. Talbot's was exactly what I was looking for! The dresses and shoes in particular were perfect with the right blend of elegance and practicality. I returned to the store today and found Jennifer, the store manager, to be FANTASTIC! She helped me find everything I was looking for and she's very personable as well. The Old Town Alexandria store is my local spot so I highly recommend it to anyone in the D/M/V!! read more

I like Talbots' clothes and appreciate the airiness of this store's arrangement. The customer service, however, has been horrible the 3 times I have shopped here. With the exception of one saleswoman, everyone was rude and arrogant. I feel that I somehow do not match their image of who their perfect shopper is so they can be dismissive and actually a bit bitchy. I had to wander around looking for sizes and was just ignored while they fawned over several more typical Talbot customers. Third time's the charm -- I will not be back to this particular location. read more

Like other reviewers previously noted, the store assistants treat customers in a snobbish way. They are also extreeeeemly slow and not really helpful, except for a couple of ladies who have recently joined a team. Huge difference with customer service of all the brands along the King Street. They should really revamp their whole culture here, otherwise their clientele will switch to more customer-friendly brands. I used to really love Talbots in Annapolis. I have shopped at, and have enjoyed, this Talbots for years. Unfortunately, management and (all but one or two) salespersons changed. The result is very disappointing. I almost never shop there any longer; and every time I do, I leave frustrated by the inattentiveness of staff. To top it off, the manager seems more interested in closing the store and not answering the telephone the second the clock strikes than he (?) is with taking care of customers. I dare say, I have felt that he would rather do anything but help customers, and his attitude permeates the sales staff. It's very unfortunate that the store has suffered so greatly of late. read more

I saw a sweater in the window and went in to purchase it, but no one would ring me up. the sales desks were empty as I walked toward them, so I put the sweater back and left. Highly recommend this Talbots location, have always received excellent customer service from them. Have been shopping there since 2006. The sales are terrific. Over the years the quality of clothing has declined, as in so many stores and brands but I bought some excellently made suits this year. Have to buy jackets in petite, slacks in regular sizes so not easy for me to find good suiting. Usually can find beautifully made sweaters for winter wear. IMO, the shoe sales can't be beaten. read more

I called Talbot's and talked to the asst manager about my experience. She was extremely apologetic about the phone call from her sales staff. She offered me an additional discount if I still wanted the dress. Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to go back and buy the dress but I feel much better about the store and I am sure I will return. The store had a great selection. read more
