What a terrific meal and atmosphere. Open soon after Shabbat ended and we sat for hours having a leisurely delicious and abundant meal. I wouldn't generally go for French fries but they brought over a plate for the table and they were clearly cut fresh potatoes even though they appeared just like any other fries. I even asked if one of the appetizers (breaded cauliflower) could be substituted as a side for my dish and he accommodated what I know can be annoying request. read more

The food was ok but I must mention the absolute rudeness of the male server tonight. When I came in, there were hardly any tables and I had made a reservation. He approached me and asked if I was there for the shawrma. I said no. He then proceeded to lie to me to say that the table that I was sitting at was reserved for that. My family and I went for the first night of Passover. It was my first time eating at Talia's. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was perfect for the holiday, with my elderly father. this was my second time here and i had another good experience, although there were some strange things. we called in advance to make sure that they were open, as we were going at 10:30 pm and the website said they were open until 1:00 am. we called and they said they were open, but when we got there, they seemed confused and asked if we were there for shawarma. we said no that we were here for talia's and asked if that was okay. the man was pretty rude and barely even answered us. then a nice man came out and said sorry and that he'd check if it was okay. after he said that it was fine, we ordered and our waiter was incredibly nice. he brought us a complimentary plate with hummus, baba, israeli salad and more. it was amazing and the pita was warm and yummy. our food came out pretty quickly and was absolutely delicious. something that i thought was odd was that they were playing 90s hip hop, which i love, but i think is strange for a kosher restaurant. again our server was amazing and so was the food. when we paid, my grandfather said to bring the receipt back so he could leave a tip and our waiter said that the system they used didn't let us or something. my grandpa gave him some cash which he refused as first but eventually took very gratefully. i like this restaurant, and i will be back, but sometimes there is a weird vibe read more

The cuisine is a mix of American and Middle Eastern. I recommend starting with the Mid-Eastern salad platter and delicious pita. The Baba ghanoush is great. I then order the steak with a glass of red wine. Medium rare is the way to go and it is always done to perfection. So what is a restaurant review without some criticism? The service can be on the slow side but if you've been to Talia's before, you know what to expect and it's no big deal. Just use the extra time to sip your wine and look out on Old New York City. My sister made a reservation to come here last Saturday night. She had bought a Groupon for 4 people and invited me and my boyfriend to join them for dinner. It was an spectacular experience. Everything was perfect. Elena/Helena was our waitress, she was incredible and made sure everything was exceptional for us. We received an appetizer on the house, which was "Homemade Hummus, Tahini, Babaganoush, eggplant salad, red cabbage slaw and beets", my sister and her boyfriend tried and loved every single thing. They also served some pita bread with pesto and pesto cream cheese or pesto butter on the house, not sure which one but was good anyway. We started the night with a bottle of red wine, Cabernet Sauvignon to be exact, which was more than excellent. The Groupon offered two bottles, we received the second with our steaks. We ordered appetizers and salads afterward, which were also included on the Groupon. We had Bbq Crispy Chicken Wings and Moroccan Cigars accompanied with Talia's Salad and Roasted Beet Salad, everything was appetizing and tasteful, definitely inviting us to anxiously wait for what was left. After the appetizers, Helena served our entree choices. The four of us ordered Ribeye Steaks, of course they were incredibly juicy, exquisite, mouthwatering. We were definitely in Heaven. Each Entree came with two sides, as per our Groupon. I ordered the incredible Mashed Potatoes and Sweet Potato Fries and they were both simply perfect. The mash potatoes were made with some garlic taste, it was very flavorful. We went down a bottle and like 1/4 of the second and then ordered dessert, which was also included in the Groupon. We had two desserts, ordered a Tiramisu and Chocolate Cake. Helena informed us the Tiramisu was kosher, in case we wanted to change our option, we acknowledged but decided to keep the order. We made the right decision, the Tiramisu was lovely. We all loved it. After all the food, our waitress Helena brought the bill, which included just the taxes as the Groupon does not cover for them. We stood at the restaurant for about another hour and finished the Wine Bottle. It was a lovely experience as much as it was a lovely evening. In our opinion (unanimous), the price of the Groupon does not even cover 1/4 of the amount of the scrumptious food we were able to consume and enjoy on our visit, plus also getting two bottles of wine, along with an outstanding, splendid service from our waitress and all the staff at the restaurant. Definitely looking forward to come here again and devour another one of those savory, delightful, succulent Ribeye steaks. Came here last night after a long time because they were having a 2 night Indian cuisine and was curious to see how a steakhouse will manage to pull this off. But boy oh boy, did they. We had to wait awhile for our table of 8 cause the restuarant was completely full and the crowd was really enjoying the food. The wait was worth it cause that Chicken Biyani, Lamb Potato Curry and Chicken tikka masala were very authentic and delicious. They also comped our drinks at the bar and the appetizers, which was very thoughtful. The crew is very professional and courteous. And the owner, Effie, is one super host and very welcoming and understanding. Will definitely be going back to try out their steaks and lamb chops. I was very excited to eat at this restaurant. Finding a Kosher restaurant is difficult but to find one that serves on Shabbat, I was looking forward to it. I grew up in the restaurant business, Jewish food, so I am a maven. The restaurant had a beautiful table setting and the staff was very friendly greeting us. Due to COVID we sat outside which was done very well. The table had a white table cloth, challah and grape juice for Kiddush. We prepaid and that was great. The soup was chicken and very typical with a lemon flavor which was good. The matzo balls could not be eaten they were not fully cooked and hard in the middle. We got two meatball dinners and one chicken dish. The side dishes were just fine, mashed potatoes and vegetables. But the meatballs had no flavor as well as the chicken medallions had no flavor. The desert was a delicious chocolate layer cake. I suppose the right thing to do was to complain to the owner, but he was preoccupied with a water leak in the restaurant and the last thing he needed to hear was my critic of his dishes. I had reservations for the first night of Passover Seder at another place that I was not able to keep so I urgently looked for reservations for the second night of Passover Seder and found that this was the only place that had availability. I was a little wary given the mixed reviews but figure, how bad could it be? Let's just say for $140 per person for 3 people (my credit card statement says $457.03 to be exact), I expected more than what we got. The actual service provided (reading from the Haggadah, singing, etc.) was pleasant. For a brief moment I felt like this room filled with strangers (and many empty tables by the way) was actually filled with distant relatives as we all sang, and it created a nice vibe, albeit pretty disorganized at times. That is where the good (kind of) ends though. Note, the Seder plates were not actual Seder plates, and the salt water was omitted for whatever reason so we used our soup to represent the tears. 1. Our server (very quiet and sweet but timid elderly woman) could not speak a word of English, which proved to be very problematic trying to explain things like allergies to her. 2. Our Haggadahs were covered in food, one of them with mashed potatoes in between the pages. A woman came over and switched them out, explaining that a large group of kids had been sitting at our table at the earlier seating. Okay, fine, but ALL FOUR of our Haggadahs were covered in food - do you not look at all while setting up for the next seating? 3. For three people we were given two tiny plastic bottles of very cheap sweet kosher wine. Cheaper than Manischewitz if you can believe that. I would have happily bought a bottle of wine but nobody came by to ask us if we wanted drinks, just the said timid woman hurriedly taking our choices for first, second and fourth courses. 4. We were given one plate containing two matzohs wrapped in a wrinkled paper napkin. I was underwhelmed. 5. The salmon croquettes were not fresh, they came from the freezer. How do I know this? Mine was ice cold. My uncle's was room temp at best. My aunt said hers was warm but I know she was just being nice. 6. The matzoh ball soup was also room temp at best and not at all seasoned. I could have made a better one from a mix. Sorry, not sorry. 7. My lamb was again room temp at best, and super fatty, but frankly it was exquisite and tender, and I was happy I ordered it because... 8. My aunt's salmon was 1/3 completely raw at the bottom near the skin, and 9. My uncle's STEAK was overcooked, dry and very tough. Um... this is a STEAKHOUSE is it not?!?! My fault, I put in his selection as the steak thinking it was a safe choice in a steakhouse. It was super thin, like a piece of meat from a TV dinner. Really really really bad. 10. Dessert was a cup of chocolate mousse with whip cream from a can on top - something you'd get at Golden Corral. Not to mention probably not kosher. 11. At one point the owner came over and introduced himself and we all just smiled politely as he had food all over his jacket. My uncle, being a good sport, told me he wanted to write me a check for the meal because he didn't think I should pay, and when I told him what we were charged this poor man's face displayed immediate regret. I don't know, maybe it's better on a more "typical" night but I have to point out that all this happened and by no stretch of the imagination was the restaurant full - there were plenty of empty tables. $140/person for cold bland food not cooked properly, really? This was just one of those experiences where so much went wrong, you just don't even bother complaining because there's no way they can get it right. We left in a hurry, thanking the owner, who was blocking the door, and giving a very lukewarm "it was good" as we rushed out. I went home and ate a box of Ritz in lieu of matzoh. There are a few other kosher places nearby, but my and my family's favorite has always been Talia's. Also, as noted by others, they have been doing a great service by offering various chefs and types of cuisine, in periodical Pop Up Restaurant offerings. But moreover, they are creating community by holding Shabbat dinners, as well as Singles events and Jewish spiritual classes (both of which I am sure they area losing a lot of business and money for, but this is all in support of the Chosen People, the Chosen Language (Hebrew), and the Chosen Land (Israel)). Went last night to Talia's. They featured a vegetarian Indian Pop Up Menu in observance of the Nine Days. My daughter in law accompanied me & we chose the tasting menu which included: 2 soups, 2 appetizers, 2 mains, 2 mango lasis and 2 rice puddings for dessert. The soup was delicious. The appetizers were difficult to eat & neither of us enjoyed it. The mains were outstanding. We took spinach & chickpea curry & cauliflower & potato curry, both served with rice. The rice pudding was very tasty. We didn't order the mango lasis since neither of us likes mango. I had an old fashioned cocktail & a glass of Malbec. The wait staff was very polite. The price for the tasting menu for 2 was very reasonable. We enjoyed the dinner. According to their website Talia's has been doing this Nine Days Indian Pop-Up dinner for 22 years. Their regular menu is a steakhouse menu. My late husband & I have dined here on their steakhouse menu. The food was delicious. A restaurant worth raving about: Talia's Steakhouse & Bar, one of the staples of the West Side. And not just the restaurant but the owner Effie Nagar as well! Our story begins two weeks ago, when my lovely friend and I wanted to go out to eat in a convenient and outdoor location. Since we both live near 93rd that hit both marks! Plenty of outdoor seating and good distance between tables. Upon perusing the menu, we saw duck. And not everyone likes duck, but we were excited to realize that we both enjoy it (and how often does one get to have it let alone share it?!) so we were all in for the duck. Turns out, maybe since not everyone is as keen about duck and maybe with COVID, the duck was frozen when we asked for it and while Effie was happy to start a process of making it then for us, we were hungry and happily decided to instead have their Yemenite chicken and beet salad (both of which were SO yummy). But Effie went above and beyond and because we couldn't have the duck and gave us a complementary salad/ pita plate! And boy was that some good hummus!!! But mostly we were just taken aback by his kindness. We told him we'd return for the duck and he said to just give him a few hours notice so they can prepare it. Tonight was that night. I called Talia's this afternoon to let them know we were coming for the duck. Effie himself picked up, and said he'd call me back to confirm. I missed his call but he actually texted me to tell me that we're on for the duck. When we got there, and mentioned to our waiter that Effie had prepared the duck for us, she said absolutely and then we were all on the same page of Malka and I being the girls who wanted the duck haha. Now on to the food. We actually ordered the dips platter from the beginning this time because it was so yummy last time. And my friend loved her Moroccan soup. But for both of us, the highlight was the duck. OH THE DUCK. It had a beautiful crispy skin on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. And that peach sauce was DELICIOUS. We were thrilled. And THEN, I feel a few buzzes and I told my friend it was interesting that I got a few so let me check. Lo and behold it was Effie checking in on us (he had to step out for a bit) texting me to see how everything was. Now that's customer service. And it should be noted our waitress was also very pleasant and attentive. This place has everything you need- great location, COVID precautions, DELICIOUS food, and above all, an owner who really, really cares about his business, his food and his customers. I went to Talia's last week to meet up with an old friend.I was very excited to go here based on Groupon reviews and just browsing on their website. So! I ordered the rib eye steak (Medium) over mashed potatoes. The temperature of the meat was all wrong. It was more on the well done side but it had good flavor. The mash potatoes were BLAH! They tasted like instant mashed potatoes. Thank goodness the glass of Cabernet I had was good. After I forced myself to eat the ribe eye--- I barely ate the potatoes, the waitress asked us if we want dessert. I proceeded to ask for a menu. She says that she could just tell me what they have. My friend and I both ordered the strawberry shortcake. When we go it, it was plated very well and pieces of white chocolate. BUT it was way to sweet!! I also barely touched it. When I go the bill, I found out that the cake was $12 each which made me more angry. I was so disappointed with my visit to Talia's. I was expecting so much more!
