I have driven throughout Edgewater for years and have not seen Madison Café and Grill. Thanks to Yelp, my curiosity was piqued and I'm so glad that I visited. The restaurant has an interesting history. Even though the original opened in Cresskill, NJ, it unfortunately has permanently closed. However, not only is the Edgewater location amazing, but it had the guts to open during COVID (2022), survived, and is succeeding. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is beautiful inside and outside. Their decorations are tasteful, the presentation of the food is award winning, and the service is stellar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I started with a Mocha Cappuccino and it was so good. Served in a large mug, an airy/creamy top, and had the perfect amount of mocha happiness throughout. Before the meal even started, we were graciously given Za'atar (a popular Middle Eastern spice blend with an earthy, tangy, and nutty flavor, toasted sesame seeds, and sumac, with salt). It was crunchy, drizzled with oil, and I enjoyed how each thin pita bite made the spices explode all over the table. The entrees were: Strawberry French Toast. The next was the Falafel Platter (chickpeas and fava bean balls, served with tahini sauce, pickles, turnips, tomato, and mint). The last selection was the Avocado Toast (Citrus cured salmon over multigrain bread, tomatoes, onions, capers & citrus vinaigrette). Not only were all of these dishes beautifully presented, but all were filling, as well. My Avocado Toast kept me full for the rest of the day and the salmon was enjoyably salty, thin, and delicious. I noticed a dessert in their display case and ordered it. The dessert was the Riz Bil Ashta (Lebanese rice cream, infused with orange blossom water, blended with milk and cheese, and topped with crushed pistachios). This dessert tasted like a regal custard and the pistachios added an enjoyable texture that makes it recommended. Of course, I had to cap the meal with a Mocchiato. This amazing beverage followed the rest of the meal..... delicious, eyes closed good, and every sip was full-flavored. If you think this is a regular cafe only open for brunch. You are wrong! They open on Friday and Saturday with an amazing Lebanese cuisine. The tabbouleh salad came out quickly but it had too much lemon juice and not enough tomatoes and couscous. Our steak and eggs came out more than 30 minutes later due to a catering order being fulfilled. It would have been nice they fulfilled our order first. I'm surprised how I have never reviewed my favorite breakfast place yet on yelp! I'm a regular here and always have the same order ( I should explore more but I'm so addicted to what I love). Pear and pecan pancake along with avocado toast with salmon. Great presentation and mind blowing flavours. Highly recommend these two to everyone. Recently they started with dinner as well over the weekend and obviously I was all in to try. Mr.had the delicious Lebanese grilled Chicken and i tried the softest roasted branzino. My only complaint is that as a vegetarian--if I ask to leave off the meat - not asking to substitute with anything ---I get charged the full amount. I really loved this place! I can see why it is one of the top rated spots to eat in North Jersey. Prior to dining here we didn't even realize that it was top ranked on Yelp. It didn't take us long to understand why this restaurant is so well coveted though - the crispy pita bread seasoned with oil & sesame to start surely sealed the deal. Loved the mushroom soup special, it was vegan and had all the great umami/ mushroom flavors one craves in a mushroom soup. I would absolutely recommend it, especially if you are a mushroom fan like I am. We had to try the blueberry Mascarpone French toast after hearing all the rave reviews about it, and we were so glad we did - the blueberry and mascarpone paired so well together and the French toast was perfectly sweet! Do not skip out. Pro tip, get it to share with the table like we did so you don't have a sweetness overload. I enjoyed the crispy falafel as well as their tahini sauce. The zaatar manakeesh was absolutely delicious. The bold and fresh flavors were bursting. My one qualm was that it was supposed to be served with labneh but my dish wasn't. Regardless, it was still tasty without it, but I was looking forward to trying some of the labne at Madison. Although I'm sure if I asked for some, they would gladly provide some on the side. The food was really good--but the rest of the experience left a bad taste. The server seemed irritated from the start--just cold and short. It took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. What really shocked me was the 4% credit card fee. That alone might have been fine, but here's the kicker: First, they gave us a regular paper bill like any other restaurant. But when we handed over a credit card, they brought an iPad-like device to the table, stood next to me while I navigated it, and the tip suggestions started at 25%--calculated on top of both tax and the credit card fee. They kept staring until I tapped, and immediately took the device back. That kind of checkout pressure and pricing trickery completely ruined the experience. It's a shame, because the food really was good. But service matter just as much--and I won't be coming back. read more

Service was impeccable. The food was good. I'd give it a 3.5 stars for what we ordered. There may be other dishes that are better, or they may have been having an off day. I ordered the, blueberry mascarpone French toast and my husband ordered something with lobster. He liked his. I had brunch at Madison at Edgewater and unfortunately, it was an underwhelming experience. My omelette lacked flavor and the potatoes were incredibly soft and soggy, breaking apart at the touch of a fork. While they were at least seasoned, but the texture was a letdown. I understand it was a busy day, but we waited about 30 minutes to get the bill and had to wave someone down to get it. There were several waitstaff around, yet none came over to check on us or see if our meal was okay--they were just chatting among themselves. The only saving grace was my friend's salmon Benedict, which she enjoyed. Otherwise, I would have rated it lower. Overall not the brunch experience I was hoping for. It's a really cute spot tucked away in Edgewater I've passed by so many times without noticing it. Went there for a brunch on Sunday. We were 15-29 minutes early for our reservation, but they graciously sat us early. The server was very knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. He made some great recommendations. The Avocado toast with in-house cured salmon was delicious. My date thoroughly enjoyed the lobster Benedict. Our only complaint was that the poached eggs were overcooked. Poached eggs should have yolks that ooze, just ever so. The yolks were more like hard boiled eggs, so I am taking off one star, since perfectly cooked eggs is cooking 101 for any chef. We shared a stack of the lemon Ricotta blueberry pancakes with caramel sauce and REAL maple syrup on the side, which was phenomenal. Those were some of the best pancakes I ever had in Manhattan, Maine, or Cape Cod. I'd go back just for those pancakes alone.
