I took my son here once his dad's insurance changed. First of all, they are doing great with regard to COVID precautions. When you arrive, you are required to enter with a mask, check in with sanitizer handy and all staff wearing masks. Once you check your child in, you are to wait in your car until they text when your child is finished. When exiting the building, wipes are provided with a notice encouraging patrons to use one to exit. Once I received the text my son was finished, I was greeted by the dentist to show me important areas to pay attention to on my son's x-rays. Dr. Hanway was personable and made the visit helpful and efficient. The entire staff is sweet and kind, which is necessary in a pediatric geared business. I am happy to say our switch to another dentist was a smooth transition and we are happy with the change! read more

I absolutely love everything about this office. All of the staff from the receptionists, the hygienists, and Dr. Hanway are so wonderful with their kind, proficient care to their (sometimes not so cooperative) patients. They take their time to educate both parents and children on good oral hygiene and make going to the dentist fun! Dr. Shawn is up to date on the newest dental procedures and treatment options, and truly cares about her patients and their health. After several bad experiences at another pediatric dentist office, I was overjoyed to find Tallahassee Pediatric Dentistry and will never take my children anywhere else. The wait time is minimal and Dr. Hanway and her staff are very efficient and thorough. At our most recent visit, the assistant who was taking my 7 year olds impressions was great at telling her exactly what to expect. She was quick and made the process very easy. While you could tell she was rushing a bit to get us in and out, as soon as I asked her to ease my daughter's anxiety over the appliance she was going to have fixed into her mouth in a few weeks she stopped what she was doing, explained to my daughter exactly what they were going to do and even showed her what the appliance would look like. She answered all of my daughters questions and you could visibly see the relief come over my daughter. Their practice faxes school excuses directly to the schools and also files our insurance directly. Dr. Hanway is extremely friendly and puts children at ease all the while being very professional and knowledge. The waiting room has a Keurig machine for coffee for the adults as well as a cooler of bottled water and the children get to pick a surprise at the end of their visit. Dr. Hanway has seen my daughter three times. She is wonderful with children, conscientious, kind and an excellent dentist. My regular (adult) dentist referred my daughter to have two teeth pulled and a filling. Dr. Hanway took the time to get to know my daughter, develop a plan for treatment and schedule the work in such a manner that it wasn't traumatic in any way. The office is beautifully decorated and the staff are friendly and professional. We never waited longer than 10 minutes. Dr. Hanway sent reminders the day before appointments and called to check on my daughter the evenings she had procedures. I have been taking my kids to Tallahassee Pediatric Dentistry for over a year now. One of my kids needs special attention on her teeth and our previous dentist recommended Dr Shawn when we moved to Tallahassee. Now, let me tell you, during the past year we have been seeing Dr. Shawn for our regular cleanings and my daughters follow up on her treatment. During every appointment we have discussed our treatment and we both agreed on continuing to watch concerns and keep doing what we were doing (brush/diet). I always felt like she listened to my concerns. I'm a mom who likes to be involved and know as much as I can to help my kids, I like to listen to professional's opinions but also do my own homework. We had a plan set for my daughter which we both agreed would be the best and that was trying our best to avoid the big dental work of drilling/filling and capping her teeth, especially considering her age. A few months ago I received an email with an invoice for a treatment plan for my daughter (which was nothing like we had been talking about for the past year). It seemed like they just wanted to bill me for expensive treatments even though we both agreed to take the less invasive route. I emailed them back questioning why they sent me that treatment plan, never got a reply so I decided to call. The answer I got was, that the email was a mistake. I understand but still had the bad feeling about how they didn't even care to look at her information before sending me that treatment plan and invoice. Anyways, we got over that and had a few other appointments after the incident, let me mention, not even once Dr. Shawn cared to apologize for her office's "mistake" (that was the word they used to explain the whole invoice situation). Last weekend my daughter showed another little issue on a different tooth, after emailing the office we both agree to bring her in for a checkup and we had our appointment. We arrived 5 minutes early for our 12PM appointment and waited and waited. After 40min I asked the front desk, a very sweet lady, if we were about to be called, I had a lesson schedule for my son and I needed to adjust my plans if our appointment would take longer than expected. I asked after 40 min WAITING, yes, I understand sometimes you have to wait but I feel like 40 min is incredible disrespectful. As the lady was beginning to answer me, I heard cross the room a younger girl who works for Dr. Shawn and I won't name names, saying loudly, "you have to wait!" I replied, excuse me?! She went off and continued in a rude and disrespectful tone "well, you have to wait! We can't control patients and that's it! You have to wait!" I could not believe her tone of voice and how her facial expressions was. I asked her to excuse me because I was trying to talk to the front desk and I did not ask her. She was clearly angry and I strongly asked her to stop! The front desk lady with her sweet and calm voice apologized for the wait. After 45 minutes we were called in, another super nice nurse helped us to get settled in and we waited for Dr. Shawn. After over ONE hour of our appointment time we were finally being seeing by Dr. Shawn who again, listened to me, worked on my request and before we left I told her about the incident in the front desk, I truly felt like I should not be yelled from that specific nurse and she had no rights to tell me I had to wait and that's how it works! Dr. Shawn said she already heard the story and she thought her nurse was right! With her words, "her nurse is an extension of her". If you feel like your employees have the right to mistreat your customers I'm sorry you are not a good fit for my family. Dr. Shawn was blunt and asked us not to come back. I absolutely agree because I want my kids to be seen on a personal basis and not as another $$ symbol. So bottom line is, if you want to be involved, educated about your kids treatment, if you have an opinion, if you stand for yourself and if you truly seek medical advice instead of just agreeing with whatever treatment they suggest, this place is not for you. If they truly cared about my kids issue things would have gone a different route. And for you parents, stand for yourself, if they book too many patients and you have to wait for over 1 hour past your appointment, speak for yourself! If we as patients arrive over 1 hour late we probably wouldn't be seen and would still be charged. Respect to be respected and that's the bottom line. read more

My son always has a great experience. I sent a message on the website months ago about the appointment and I didn't hear back. I also wish the insurance stuff was more clear and transparent. We will have to switch dentists because they don't take our insurance. Hard to believe the dental insuarance offered by Leon County schools isn't accepted in any way. read more

We had to switch dentists and switched to Tallahassee Pediatric Dentistry because so many friends recommended them. From the first phone call to research if they took our insurance, I knew we would be patients here. The secretary booked a same week appointment and answered all my questions professionally and courteously. All the required paperwork was sent electronically through their portal so I didn't have to worry about printing and bringing it with us. On the day of our appointment, we walked into the lobby and found a beautifully decorated and clean waiting area. It was filled with enough chairs for adults and small cushions and children's chairs for patients. My son was called back for his cleaning on time. The hygienist introduced herself and offered for me to come back or my son to go alone to the back ( because he is 7). I went back to see the set up and brought my 2 year old as well. The cleaning chairs were set up with TVs in the ceiling and headphones were provided. The hygienist was gentle and thorough during the cleaning. The dentist was friendly and discussed brushing and flossing habits with my son and we were sent away with a first visit shirt and the normal toothbrush. Upon checking out, the secretary suggested waiting to book the follow up for when we returned with my younger son so the appointments could be booked together. I left the appointment absolutely amazed at the clean, well run facility and the excellent and friendly staff. If the first visit is any indication for future visits, my children will be very happy patients. read more
