Tasty taco selectiona I had the shrimp taco, el pastor (pork), and carnitas (beef). The pork was the best, hands down, and had pineapple running through it. My hubby had a chicken, fish, and another type of beef (can't remember the name). We agreed that the pork was best and the fried fish taco second! The chicken and shrimp were a little lackluster. We had a meal with the queso, it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be and pretty bland. The guacamole was nice and fresh tasting. My husband's work provided this as a meal delivery with a make it yourself margarita kit for a client Covid dinner. Admittedly we didn't pay for it, but the food was great! It included carne asada and chicken chimichurri with pico de Gallo, corn fundito, onion and cilantro, guac, salsa, tortilla chips with flour and corn tortillas. The chips tasted great and were so fresh. The carne asada and chicken chimichurri were very flavorful. Everything was very fresh and tasted incredible- so much that we will plan to visit the restaurant after only having it as a do it yourself at home meal. Highly recommend (and our kids liked it too). Came in today (taco Tuesday) about 5:30.. definitely was hoping for some specials but Nada.. luckily my girlfriend and I were hungry and say "oh well" place was not too busy.. service : hostess, server, bartender and buser were all very friendly and attentive, small place.. easy to identify who needs what. I will give this place 1 star for the very nice young waiter who was trying to keep his head about the sangria. Otherwise, tough sledding here. I had read poor reviews prior to coming and I thought to myself, :"self, you'll try anything once (twice really but I was talking to myself), so I gave it a whirl". No bueno. Ordered a ceviche platter that had no taste (in any of the three). Drank a $7 tallboy of some unremarkable beer. Tried this place for lunch to get myself out of the office and it was horrible. I'm so sorry to say this. I ordered a crispy fish, shrimp, and steak taco and when she brought them out, they had a horrible smell. It immediately turned my stomach. The guacamole wasn't anything special and the chips were probably the best thing served. The spring salad was super flavorless and boring - the vinaigrette didn't add much flavor or excitement so it was mostly like eating plain lettuce and shaved cucumbers/celery. I'm vegetarian so I was disappointed to find they only have one veg taco. It had fried avocado and not much else. The fried avocado had sort of a weird taste (can't put my finger on it) and didn't have many other vegetables to add anything to the dish so I only ended up eating 1 of 2. The rice and beans were fairly plain, but my biggest complaint about them is that the serving was very small. Definitely won't be back! Tall boy had their work cut out for them as there is already quite a few taco joints in the area. Sadly, they came up average. Place wasn't too busy on a Monday night. I went with the guacamole to start. The guac was solid. For tacos I had the fish, chicken and pork carnitas. They were all pretty good with the fish being the best. However, my biggest issue was that they were cold. Also, my server didn't point out there was a salsa bar until I asked for pico. I love that they have a salsa bar but at 7:30 on Monday I don't expect it to be empty which it was. There was a little bit of pico left, two slices of lime, a few prices of pickled onion and that was it. There wasn't any cilantro which I consider a must if you are a taco joint. I lived in LA for 20+ years and had my fair share of tacos and this is one of the best tacos I've had. It's not the authentic original taco that you would get in LA but a new formulated taco with great flavors that work really well. I had the birria short rib taco and the meat was so well made and the pickled radish on top makes the perfect finish. I also got the fish tacos and it reminded me of tacos I had down in San Diego. I tried Tallboy Taco the other week for lunch, and I have to raise the number of stars b/c it was night and day difference from the first time I was there. We started with the chips and salsa and loaded up on the different salsas from the salsa bar. The chips are nice and airy while the various salsas allowed you to either tame it down or spice it up. There was this orange-ish color one that was really good. I got the special enchiladas and the avocado taco. The avocado was crispy and hot and very good with the aioli. The al pastor enchilada was good - maybe a bit too much sauce - but was a little lukewarm. The other two tacos we tried were the steak and brisket - both very good, but again, not piping hot. Tallboy does get you your food very quickly - making for a fast lunch - but please, make sure the food is hot when it comes out of the kitchen! Seems to be a growing trend among restaurants these days. But even with that mishap - I would go back - especially to try some of those drinks! read more

I used to love Tallboy Taco. Their corn fundito and nachos were some of my favorite items. However, they've made changes to those and other dishes and the quality of the food has dropped drastically. I'm actually shocked that reviews are so low for this place because so far it has some of the best tacos I've had in Chicago so far. Way better than Velvet Taco honestly and so much more flavorful. They also have a great deal- 2 tacos and a beer for 8 dollars. Yes that's right $8 for 2 TACOS AND A BEER!! Restaurant is kind of a weird vibe and in a weird location, but the tacos are SO good. Tallboy Taco is a neighborhood favorite for for my boyfriend and I. We make it to HH there at least once a month. Margaritas are fresh and this quenching. The tacos are good (I personally don't love the corn tortilla trend but the fillings are always unique and tasty). And my most recent favorite is the quesadilla! My friend Alex and I stopped here during the Chicago Taco Crawl. My experience with the taco crawl will be in a different review, so let's just talk about the tacos that were served here. For the taco crawl, they were serving spicy chicken mole tacos. First, the place is pretty cool. It's modern, up-to-date and has a trendy vibe without being annoying. There's a small patio. The bar sits in the middle with bar stools and high-tops all around. There might've been a few booth seats too, but we weren't really looking. We ended up getting the tacos to go because the place was actually quite crowded...not the you can't move crowded, but more the I can't find a table to sit at and eat my taco crowded. The tacos were pretty good. They use corn tortillas and the meat has some pretty good flavor as does the sauce. They weren't blow your mind, but good if you in the area...one of the better taco places in the area, actually. TLDR: it's worth checking out; it's got a cool vibe. read more

I've been here three times now and every single time, there hasn't been one welcome! or "seat yourself!" Just a sign that says "please seat yourself." The aesthetics to this place was unique. The vibe was trendy and at night it turned into a night lounge/club. I am not from Chicago but I was there for vacation during a long weekend with my best friend and this place was recommended to us. We ended up coming here at night and as we were there the place transitioned into a club environment. The people that were there to party would go more towards the back which was where the party happened for the most part. As soon as you walk in the bar is in the front which is where most people get their drinks. The papas bravas were my favorite because it reminded me of a dish I had in Spain.
