Came here last Friday with the Tinder Date. We didn't Rollerblade (which is BACK), but this was a huge missed opportunity, as I could have sat in the outdoor section and kept them on. Not that keeping them on inside would have been out of the question, but some restaurants are still old fashioned and intolerant of Green Transportation. In any case, we had our pick of tables, and chose a prime spot outdoors, as I was dressed perfectly for the outside weather. We asked for a full pitcher of one of the cocktails and our waiter immediately questioned the wisdom. My Tinder Date, lacking conviction, was talked down into ordering a half-pitcher. 25 minutes later, we ordered a second half-pitcher. I ordered an assortment of tacos while another couple was seated near us. I believe it was their first date, as it did not appear as though he had sealed the deal yet. I very politely and tactfully commented on their interaction to my Tinder Date via text: it would have been quite rude to do it verbally, in the unlikelihood that my read on the situation was off-base. The tacos came out quickly, which was extremely appreciated. They are served family style, so they brought out a plate filled with two of all the tacos I had ordered: the Tinder Date had copied my order, surprise surprise. Delicious food! To start tried both salsas and the white queso. Both salsas were delicious and fresh and a good portion for the price. Probably on the mild side of medium in spiciness if that makes sense, they had just a little bit of heat. The queso was delicious, very flavorful and melty. The chicken quesadilla was an explosion of flavor. The chicken and cheese inside were so well seasoned and the avocado and chipolte sauces on top were delicious. I could taste the lime and cilantro that I assume they cook the chicken in. It was also huge, 2 people could easily share. The only item I didn't like was the Mole Chicken Wings. The sauce was overly fake smoky tasting and the wings didn't taste fresh. It's also only 5 wings for $11.95 which is an insane price. That's why only 4 stars instead of 5. I came in for a fun Taco Crawl day and felt that because I was part of the Crawl we were treated differently. All the tables became reserved even with no line. We ordered "free refills" chips and tacos and when we finished the waiter didn't bother asking if we wanted anymore. The service was pretty bad with rude unhappy server. I came here for lunch today with a co-worker. We each had 2 tacos, a soft drink, and shared an order of guacamole + chips. Total was about $30 pre-gratuity. The guacamole was pretty solid, but not full of any super unique flavors (which is totally fine). The chips are house made I'm pretty sure as they're crispy, thick, and perfectly salty. Our tacos came out quickly and I'm so glad I asked the cashiers for a recommendation! I knew I wanted to try the Al Pastor (always) and went with their suggestion to try the veggie (which should be renamed "fried avocado"). It was really tasty! Service for refills was slow (I had to go up to the bar and ask for one), but we were there at lunch when they may not have had many servers on duty. This establishment is in River North and I understand rent is extremely high. But to charge $4.50/ taco and the portion being that small..I go out and usually take half of my meal home. Here, I probably needed to eat 10 tacos to feel mildly full. Food came out Luke warm. So it was sitting there or most of it is pre-cooked and heated up for service, which isn't a new concept but this is tacos...cook it to order.. Was seated by the host and almost 10 minutes passed by before the waiter came by. First thing he said was "sorry I was talking to someone." So he saw us but decided to continue with his conversation. If he had at least dropped off a menu that would have been hospitable. He also never came back after the food came out until I asked for the check. This was at 9pm, past the dinner rush and empty. Got the half margarita for $34. Too much ice, tasted watered down. Couldn't really taste the tequila. Hard pass. There are tons of taco places in the city. In all fairness, I am not a native and Tallboy was ordered for a lunch and learn that I was delivering. I was told that it was going to be good and that my group of attendees were some pretty discerning folks. Well, after my presentation I was able to eat...wow. That is all I have to say. I had 2 tacos (1 fish and 1 steak) and they were amazing. The chips were very fresh, the guac was definitely made same day. Food was ok, service left a lot to be desired. Came here on a Friday night for a triple date and waited about 20 minutes for a table. There isn't a ton of seating so there were other groups waiting for a table for a while after us. We were seated at a table right next to the live DJ, which was a little odd considering we went at around 7:30 and it was just very loud next to us and then he stopped playing an hour later. Highlights: The corn fundido and chips and salsa. The corn fundido was like a play on elote with cheese and it was great if you could get it on the chips. The chips were nice, salty, and hot, though there were a lot that were broken into pieces that were too small for dipping. The Pancho Villa Steak Carne Asada had a good helping of corn and guac on top of the steak and although the tortilla was a little tough, it was still tasty. Downside: The service. We could never find our waitress throughout the night and we gave up on putting in more drink or food orders for that reason. We had a group of 6 of us and we each ordered 2-3 tacos but they put them all on one plate, which would be fine if they had explained what any of the tacos were. We ended up just guessing, which was fine since none of us had dietary restrictions but it would have been nice if we had gotten a rundown. The person who delivered our tacos also didn't know which was which so that wasn't particularly helpful. Overall, definitely a place I'd come back more for the bar and drinks than the food. Decent tacos, bigger than the usual hipster sized ones you get at places like taco joint. I actually didn't have one, I had the spinach salad with avocado and walnuts. I got plenty of salad, not much dressing, but I was good with that. Also had the corn chowder. The taste was fine, amount was fine, but it could have been warmer. The service was good, I like the fact that bring out theas son add its ready, and not wait for the entire table is ready to bring all the food at once. Came here on Tuesday (no taco Tuesday, womp) but still good!! It was located next to (inside?) Nacional 27 so it was a little difficult to figure out how to get inside. I got the beer-battered fish taco, cowboy 12hr brisket taco and the carne asada tacos. Tacos were good, a little pricier than I would hope for little tacos but I would be back for them! Extremely tasty tacos! I had the battered avocado tacos and they were finger licking good! The setup of the bar/restaurant is really nice and I love the decorations (like the floating in air bicycles and storing on wall). The server we had was this amazing half Mexican half Ecuadorian girl that took extremely good care of us! A pleasant addition of killer taco joints in the area! The Salsa heaven oh I mean bar was great addition, tons of different salsas to choose from ranging in heat. The borracho, Arbol and habenero were all great! The guac was just standard but done well. Good texture with still chucks of avocado. The tacos I tried were all tasty. The brisket was my #1, asada was great flavor but I felt the corn salsa took away flavor from the steak and the pastor was decent but waaaaaaay too greasy as oil constantly dropped until it formed a pool of oil on my plate. For dessert I could never turn down a churro and I was glad I didn't. Soft pillow fried dough tossed in sugar was a great way to end off my meal. There's a reason this business gets such low ratings. I received a coupon in the mail and thought, why not give it a try. There are only a million Taco joints in River North, but I was hoping this would stand out. It stands out all right and not for any good reason. Let me list the ways: First, when I walked in around 2:15, it was pretty dead and I had no idea what to do. I was told by the bartender Carrie that I had to order with her and then take my seat. Second, being unfamiliar with the menu and searching for something different, I asked her about different options on the menu. You would've thought I had shit on my face from the repeated looks she gave me. Third, when I sat down, within 5 minutes, ALL of my food came at me at once. WTF?! I ordered soup and fish tacos and I knew one of them would be cold by the time I got to consume them and yes, after I wolfed down my fish tacos, my soup was cold. I'm honestly surprised to see all the poor ratings here. I work in the neighborhood and this is a pretty regular spot for my co-workers and I. The service has been great and they don't keep you waiting around very long. As for food, I'd recommend sticking to tacos. I've tried a few other appetizers and they're OK, but nothing too special. Something I've never seen anywhere else in Chicago (yet) is a salsa bar, which is such a great addition. An order of chips and salsa ($3 unlimited) comes with one salsa and if you want to try others or mix up your own head to the salsa bar! I recently visited Tallboy and was extremely impressed. I have also been to Big Star/Velvet/Antique/Taco Joint and I would consider myself seasoned in the Chi Taco-verse. I got the Pork, Shrimp and Brisket, all three were great but the he brisket really stood out. The meat was very flavorful and salsa was a great compliment. I enjoyed the pork and shrimp as well and thought the prices were very reasonable for the River North area. The staff was very friendly and I did not have to wait long during lunch hour. I would recommend Tallboy to friends and will definitely be coming back for that brisket taco :) read more

I really like tall boy and I think it was a truly great addition to Nacional 27 space. I have honestly not had a better fish taco anywhere. I love that the chips are fresh made and delicious and I could honestly drink the salsa, no joke just a great smokey flavor. The drinks are always nice and strong and really flavorful. We decided to come here for dinner to continue my mission to try as many tacos as possible in Chicago. I made a reservation on Open Table because finding a restaurant in the River North neighborhood on a Friday night can be difficult without having to wait for forever! We walked in and were seated right away. We were immediately greeted by our server who was very friendly! After looking at the menu for a few minutes we were all set to order. We started off the meal with the chips and salsa, because who can say no to salsa! They even have a salsa bar where you can go and choose other salsa's besides the ones that are served with the chips and salsa! For my entree I ordered the pork al pastor, spicy chicken, and the pancho villa steak carne asada tacos. They were all delicious and tasted so fresh, but my favorite was the pork al pastor! Such good food! I had the 3 Taco Combo (grilled shrimp tacos on flour tortillas) and all of the flavors came together so well, and stood out great individually. I really like the cobb salad. It's big, filling and full of flavor. All the ingredients go really well together. The lettuce is crunchy and the chicken is spicy and juicy. I usually get it without the dressing because the salsa is plenty for me. My husband always gets the tacos.
