Some girlfriends and I have started a weekly dinner/happy hour club, and this was my pick for the inaugural meeting. I was attracted by the $5 rose, as summer is approaching. They also had $5 Pinot Noir. Often, when wine is discounted, one will expect it to taste that way, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality. The tacos are tasty as well--we tried a plethora of options: brisket, chicken tinga, shrimp, veggie (fried avocado) fried fish. All enjoyed them.The spicy guac is definitely spicy, so make note! Probably the worst tacos I've ever had in Chicago. Not sure how that is possible, but the tacos here are tiny, flavorless, and expensive. Not to mention, my order took forever and came out wrong. It's my second time here and I'm hooked. I just tried the Rio Peppino (made with Brazilian rum) and it's delicious. The crushed ice is genius and so much flavor yet still wonderfully refreshing. The perfect drink! read more

Great tacos! Perfect lunch or dinner spot. You can order individual tacos which is great. This isn't great for groups because you order with a cashier but if everybody knows what they want it's not too bad. They have a small outdoor patio area. read more

I stopped by this place last Saturday since it close to my house. It's nice to sit outdoor with friends. It can be count as one of my favorite spots to hang out. Loved the experience. Our server was super sweet and very helpful. The steak tacos were a little messy and the tortillas might have been cold, but they weren't bad. Guacamole didn't disappoint. Super cool vibe of a restaurant. We came for the restaurant week deal and the food was great! We plan to come back for the club that opens at night. They also got a new menu just a week ago, and there are all new tacos on the menu! Very yummy. Also Brian, the manager of the restaurant, was so helpful in helping us pick out which tacos to choose! Quality of food was terrible. Brisket nachos were chewy and the cheese tasted like it came out of a can. The tacos are also laughably small and lack flavor. A huge disappointment based off of how the menu is described. Save yourself the trouble and learn from my experience. read more

FYI: we didn't actually get to try their food but when we tried to... We were told that we couldn't get carry-out unless we paid the $10 "night club" entry fee at 9:45pm. It's an interesting business model, to charge cover for carry-out, even if it is later at night. I had my reservations about going to this place when I found out it was part of Nacional 27, but despite my better judgement I decided to give this place a shot. My in-laws were in town and had heard about this place and insisted we try it. They got the experience I warned them about...we arrived there for lunch Saturday at noon during lunch hours and walked in to an empty restaurant. We were soon stopped by who I assume was the greeter and told they were "closed for a private party." We were quickly shown out the door without an apology or invitation to return. I went here with a couple friends on a weekend. I ordered two salmon tacos which were very flavorful and didn't disappoint! The guacamole was just your average smashed up avocados. We also ordered the corn fundido, avoid this like the plague . It is literally corn and mayo! It's gross. If I wanted a side of corn , I would have ordered it. I was excited to try TT after reading several review, too bad the food didn't live up to the hype. TT grinds their masa and makes their tortillas, which are smoky and delicious.The avocado taco didn't have much flavor - how does an avocado taste plain?! The al pastor taco was flavorful, but the carnitas taco was flavorless. The corn fundido was an interesting blend of cheese, grilled corn, and lime. I thought it was the best bite on the menu. Their chips are light and crunchy, not greasy at all. The salsa bar was in sad shape and needed to be refreshed. As much as I wanted to like TT, I didn't and won't be returning, unless it's to sit at the bar and have a cocktail. read more

We were driving by and saw this place, so decided to stop in for a bite as we were both bout ready to eat our arms off. Had no idea we had to order up front (which no one mentioned after about 10 minutes of us sitting there) so we finally asked. The girl behind the bar was nice enough to inform us how it worked and said she'd take our order, so high five to her for stepping it up and not just looking at us blankly like the rest of the staff. So we ordered, and long story short... Guac and salsa were ok. but the tacos.........WOOF. First, they were all flat on the plate, soaking wet with each of their different juices and luke warm. Adobo chicken smelled like stale fish and tasted bland with almost no flavor. The carnitas tasted again like it had been sitting in water and fat since yesterday and the shrimp tasted like a dirty fish tank smells. What happened here? I'm usually not one to rag on a spot, but when it's apparent that the food is the last priority, it's just super disappointing. Especially when it seems to be the main concept. In conclusion, with better ingredients, prices and definitely flavor, I'm sad we didn't just go to Chipotle... or even Taco Joint for that matter. read more

I was really excited to try Tallboy Taco because I'm a member of the LEYE rewards program and it is close to my work. I even saw that on Mondays they offer 50% off for those in the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, when I called to place my carry-out order for lunch, they said I could not get the discount or my LEYE points unless I dined in. Neither of those rules make sense to me and I'm extremely disappointed! (Especially for industry members who rarely have the time in their days going from one job to another to sit down and eat a meal! I always take mine to go!) I understand you don't want people taking advantage of the discount and ordering for others, so maybe change it to 50% off up to a $20 purchase? Regardless, please fix this rule Tallboy! read more

Should be zero stars. The manager did his best to save what was comically bad service, so I guess one star may actually be warranted. Everyone working in the front of the house seemed high on something. Our server took or order then stood next to the counter and literally did nothing for 10 minutes except space out and stare at the ceiling like the phentanol just kicked in. Realizing that the bar tenders were also standing around and clearly our order never was put in, we got the manager on it and most of what we ordered, but not all, eventually came to us. The tacos were meh, and the queso was some sort of chunky concrete mixture that couldn't be permeated with a chip. Completely inedible and should never have been served. The service was awful the "salsa bar" had nothing but empty everything. The tacos were freezing cold and all the brisket one was fat. My carnita one was so cold I think it was in a fridge before it got put in my taco we had to ask 5 times to get our chips and dip that were just chips ant runny watery salsa with no taste deff won't ever be back. read more

I am almost positive I got a little bit of food poisoning from my fish taco, but I don't even care. I loved this place! I went on a Tuesday with my boyfriend and we got beers and tacos. I want to say for 10 dollars you get a beer and two tacos, or something like that. It was a great deal. Our waitress was very nice and the food was delicious. I went to Tallboy for a snack after reading about it on EATER. What is going on when a site like Eater recommends a taco place that uses some sort of "butter flavored oil" in their tortillas? America has lost it's tastebuds. Somehow butter flavored oil has become acceptable in kitchens across the country from diners to tacos to donuts. I had a "grilled" shrimp taco and guacamole and chips. The guac was ice cold and way too creamy. The chips looked perfect, friend perfectly golden brown, just salty and greasy enough, but then...what's that after taste? Butter flavored oil. Taco: eh, shrimp was tiny and bathed in oil, no taste of grill, and oh, that homemade tortilla: butter flavored oil. Wrong. read more

First time here and I lucked up on an all you can eat taco special for Fat Tuesday: score! The tacos are pretty good. The guacamole, tasty but left a little to be desired. Oh man this place is not good. Went for happy hour with friends around 6pm. Pros: the music was good, the staff was nice. I got a pork taco which was decent. Cons: drinks are horrible. My house margarita tasted like they poured a tablespoon of salt in it. I actually decided to pay for a full priced drink because I thought it might be better. Got a capirhina- it has two ingredients- how can that go wrong? Well it tasted like they used a sugary lime mix instead of pure lime juice and they filled half my glass up with crushed ice. It was even mixed. The worst drink I've ever had. Also the staff did not know the ingredients in their food. The crowd and the music died off around 9pm. Was a let down. read more

My second experience here was definitely better than the first! Our server was so nice and accommodating and the food was great. We stuck with Corona Lights so I don't have many comments on the drinks. I would definitely recommend coming in the summer to enjoy the outdoor patio. read more

Tallboy is delish but the service can use some improvements. It's always hit and miss. My office generally orders take out for lunch and it's always very tasty. My husband and I really enjoy this place! Hands down love the chips and guac- simple but delicious! Drinks are always good and tacos tasty. Atmosphere seemed to be very nice, however service is awful. They told us to sit anywhere in the bar area. After sitting at a dirty table for 25 minutes, waiters kept avoiding our table. Asked hostess if there were waiters working and she said it was a transition period and sorry, and still didn't get us a table. For a city that has the best restaurants, tall boy should really look into managerial staffing issues that allow this to happen. read more

We ordered chips that never came, I tried ordering one of the 5 short beers on the menu but was told they had never heard of it and it must have ran out. The tacos tasted old, my fork was also dirty. This is the third time I have gone and their specials were incorrectly advertised.
