Best thing you can do for yourself is to not come here. Service was uncomfortable as soon as we stepped in. Guy who seated us thought he was being super funny saying "Konnichiwa" to me. I'm Chinese. Okay, honest mistake; he's just being friendly. On the other hand, waiter wouldn't let us order a larger main (paella) without ordering tapas first. We didn't want tapas. He literally didn't let me order my food until we ordered a couple plates of tapas. Then, after we finally get our order taken, and I get my paella order in, he tries to upsell us like a sketchy hairdressers' might try to sell you expensive hair masks while cutting your hair. We don't need bread with olive oil on it; sorry, not sorry. Tapas are tiny portion sizes, especially considering the prices. I am the exact opposite of impressed with this place. read more

CAVA - went well with the meal - don't really know what is good cava but I was happy with my selection PATATAS FLAKA - fried potatoes - good with the garlic mayonnaise and paprika - very crispy - enjoyed every bite though after a while the mayonnaise because a little too much ESPARRECS VERDS A LA PLANXA - Grilled green asparagus - quite oily - cooked well; at least it wasn't too mushy - nothing notable FLAN - Home made caramel cream - nothing too special - I could probably make a better one myself "ORELLETES" DE LERIDA CON ANIS ESTRELLADO - Catalan crispy pancake infused with anis - not really a pancake; more of a crispy chip - Anis is actually a type of alcohol - the Anis definitely killed the overall dessert; it was just way too much - I would NEVER order this again SERVICE: our waiter was really friendly and spoke decent English. Our food came out at appropriate times. ENVIRONMENT: quite loud. Many people seem to frequent this place or maybe because it's open late. The place is well decorated with menus and mirrors all over the place. They even have food displayed at the bar area to entice your taste buds Overall, decent tapas place. we arrived in Barcelona early this morning after an all night flight. After napping, we went for a walk and built up quite an appetite. We stuck our noses in quite a few restaurants before settling on Tellar Tapas. Thankfully it was a great choice. Small plates of croquets perfectly fried, giant prawns in a delicious garlic sauce, chicken kabob and finally topped off with incredibly delicious lamb with a side of gzrk lic mayo sauce. This place was such a great find near our Airbnb in Las Ramblas. We we were on our way back from the pharmacy when we turned around and saw Taller de Tapas directly across the tiny street we were on. We walked up to the restaurant and we were warmly greeted by the hostess who handed us the menu. We took a look at the menu and we were sold. From the very start everyone was friendly and accommodating. (My Spanish is non existent) The two in our group of four who could speak Spanish ordered first. They ordered the Menus Tapas; which was basically a tapas sampler with croquettes, potatoes bravas, fried calamari, grilled peppers, and a "Russian" potato salad. All of it was delicious but the best was yet to come. I ordered the grilled octopus with garlic mash. It was perfectly cooked, tender with the perfect amount seasoning. Another person ordered the grilled squid in a lemon dressing, that was also absolutely perfect. Every dish that came after that was DROP DEAD AWESOME! The muscles, the langostine in aioli, the octopus and langostine ceviche and a dish so good it was devoured by everyone before I could even think to take a picture. The fried farmhouse egg with chips (fries) and cured Jabugo Ham. It's something so simple with so much flavor. The egg yoke makes this beautiful silken sauce that coats itself over the warm fries and mixes in with the saltiness of the cured ham making this perfect harmony of texture and flavor. It was gone in less than a minute! I also have to call attention to the Mojito Barcelones. I rarely ever more than one drink but this one was so good that I had to. Adding oranges to the traditional mojito gives it an extra depth of flavor. I was so happy with my experience here and I hope everyone can enjoy this restaurant as much as I did. This is a Barcelona mini-chain, with four locations around the city. It seems okay, but possibly a bit touristy and pricey: you can probably do better by looking for places that are a little less glossy. Still, this location, on a broad busy avenue under trees, is an excellent place to grab a cold beer and watch the world go by. read more

Average restaurant, uncommitted staff... We asked the waiter what wine he could recommend and he just replied that he didn't drink wine. Small portion sizes - we had a three course meal with ham, paella and creme brulé and had to order tapas in addition because we still were hungry. The tapas was pretty good though. read more

Came here for a light, quick dinner on our first night in Barcelona and ordered the Paella, the Spanish cheese board and a fried Iberico ham on a slice of bread (forgot the name of it). Hungry? Try some place else. The menu seemed adequate and somewhat crowded so thought to give it a try. Started by attempting to order drinks. I ordered a Bloody Jose' - when I was asked what kind of wine? I repeated and was told that my accent sounded like Rose' - never heard of a Bloody Rose'. After correcting me telling me I need to work on my Spanish. Was told it was Spicy but found it not spicy at all but more sweet. Two tables seated after us received their food before our server even took our order. My companion ordered a burger med and I ordered the paella. His burger came more rare then med and 1/3 size of the bun - can't tell you about the paella - it never came. He finished the burger and when asked about mine - they apologized but the order was not turned in . They were prompt to provide the bill and when asked how everything was - I had to just walk away! Never anywhere in Europe has this happen! There are too many other choices to waste your time here. read more

If you are a tourist and you know nothing of Spanish food, you might like this place. My friend and I, both tired and hungry and well versed in the culture and language HAD to just grab something. We ordered: an aperol spritz (good), a fizzy water (good), a tortilla española ( ehh ) and the mushiest garlic shrimp ever!!!! Gross. The service was slow and lacking of any personality, at best. The tapas kept coming, some things I never would have ordered on my own, but it was all delicious! I still remember the thin shaved and fried artichoke slices. The great thing about 1-star reviews is that they do not take very long at all. Atmosphere is your typical brasserie style, service was just so-so, and the food was absolutely horrible. Poorly flavored pasta, low grade meat, and just below a standard that I normally refer to as a minimum. I really enjoyed the food here but I do think that they need a few improvements. They're langoustines we're very good but the bread with tomato was a bit of a let down. I also received a wrong order which was also disappointing. I also felt like the steak was not that good and was difficult to chew. But the service was good and the place had nice music playing to keep me and my friends entertained. I think everyone should definetally try the virgin mojito. I loved this place! I went on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy, but the service was relatively quick and the food was great. We had some small salads and tapas. The calamari with Mediterranean herbs and sea salt were delicious. We also had some prawns which were very tender. The Galician veal was absolutely delicious. The mussels were delicious as well. This was our least favorite dinner on our entire trip to Barcelona. I believe "Taller De Tapas" does well because of the location- not the food. The food came out very quickly and not very warm. It didn't taste fresh and was very bland (the salt on the table couldn't save it) it also seemed re-heated and greasy. I cannot honestly recommend a single dish. The prices are too high for such low quality! Taller de Tapas is a mini chain with 5 restaurants so far, offering different Tapas (small portions of various foods), deserts and more. We went to this Taller de Tapas to have lunch. At noon they also offer weekly 3 course menues, all together for 11.95euro. The sizes of the portions are okay, not so much if you are really hungry, but very tasty and a good price given for the quality. For example, we had various marinated vegetables as appetizer, grilled cod with tomatoes as main dish and daily tarte (in our case, chocolate tarte) as desert. You can also sit on the terrasse of the restaurant but beware, there is an 15% extra to the costs. All together, very stylish restaurant, good food, maybe a bit pricier than the usual tourist restaurants but definitely worth it. PS: A personal remark, this restaurant was featured in the Woody Allen movie Vicky Christina Barcelona with Scarlett Johansson, we found out purely coincidental only when we saw some pictures of Woody Allen and the actress near the entrance of the restaurant. read more

I would give it a zero but it isn't an option. Service is lousy and after spending over C$100 (with absolutely no drinks, alcoholic or otherwise) the four of us are all starving. The night before we had tomato bread at another spot and got a plate of bread. These were the best Tapas we had in Spain. All were well balanced and flavorful. The calamari finally were not too greasy. They had a steak skewer with a oil & garlic sauce. The Shrimp were just right with a tasty aioli. Strongly recommend if you are looking for the Tapas you have been hearing about. read more
