#1 loose the bad sign you first see when walk in the office (photo enclosed)! that sign advertises your staff's attitude that causes patients to be upset.I could see that sign at a prison or sports events,not a doctors office. I complain to the doctor for which I've been going to for 16 years, my eyes in the past she has started to act differently, and I kept complaining, and it was getting worse and worse and I go back. He checked him and tell me that there was nothing wrong and I would ask him. How can I have these problems and nothing be wrong And I get a shrug of the shoulders. I finally went to a specialist who after careful exam immediately identified that I needed surgery called iridotomy and that it if not corrected one could go blind, this doctor after several visits should have caught this serious eye condition , I will never go again read more

I brought my 84 yr old father here. He is not a new patient. He usually goes to the Lawrence Ma location. However, this is where they had sent him due to other location being closed. His appointment was at 1:30 , I dropped him off at 1:25. I BBC am still waiting for him to come out after having an eye exam. It is now 3:45 in the afternoon. Just got off the phone with the answering service. They had informed me that my father was a half an hour late for his appointment, which he wasn't.They said that he was a new patient and that's why it took longer. Which he isn't. They just brought him in five minutes ago for the eye exam. Unacceptable. If they cannot keep appointments on time then they should not book so many , where they cannot keep up! I had an appointment today in their Haverhill office, knowing I was running late because of a medical phone call I called and said I would probably be late, are they on time or should I reschedule? The receptionist said we have a 20 minute window. I thought great. Climbed into my car drove there got to the front desk at 10 minutes past my appointment time so thought great I made it with 10 minutes to spare. NO, You have to register yourself in A Kiosk and scan both your License and front & back of your insurance cards. Well after digging everything out with no table to put your pocketbook on I finally got everything in, but now I'm 13 minutes late. She stated she would have to ask the Dr. if he would see Me, but he was still with his last patient. Ok so I would be waiting anyways right? I sat about 5 more Minutes and she said "NO" he's too busy, we can reschedule you! Really? He's running late like Me, but he won't see ME? What a terrible way to run a practice. I refused to reschedule and walked out. I will look elsewhere. Terrible patient coordination and care. Very poorly Handled! I would never recommend this place ever again! The check-in kiosk greets you in an decidedly cold and unfriendly way and it's anything but user friendly. after you thread your way through all the way across room past the waiting patients.....no humans will say welcome, smile at you or even say hello. But wow, they sure yammer away with each other. Only when some poor soul becomes frustrated with the kiosk (which is supposed to improve the customer experience according to the sign hanging over it) will someone come out from behind the glass and assist them. I have been to three different Tallman Eye locations, for my children. I would not recommend any of them. This office in Haverhill was probably the best of the three, ONLY because they didnt keep us waiting for hours. I was annoyed that my 6 year old son was struggling with picture matching ONLY because he didnt know the actual names of what he was seeing. Maybe go over the pictures with kids BEFORE they do the actual exam? The staff was rude. They clearly looked and sounded as if they didn't want to be there. This review is for my grandfather, in his words: "There were 3 exams which I question because in the past I have had the same tests conducted during one exam. During the exams the two assistants were good to deal with and wrote down my eye concerns; but when I finally saw the eye doctor in my third exam, he said he could see no notes about my concerns and I had to repeat all concerns as if it were the first time. Eyeglasses are not as clear as I would like them to be, for example when I took my eye test for my drivers license I had to guess at all of the lines I was required to read. I did go back to the lady who sold me the glasses due to a concern in seeing a the top bar on my glasses when I watch TV, but I was told I would have to live with it. I won't go back, and I think they should send Customer Satisfaction surveys out to their patients to learn where to improve." read more

Horrible experience!!!! Took my daughter to discuss the removal of a chalazion. The doctor's bedside manner was disgusting. He told us in order to do the procedure she would not be given any sedation and would have to remain still otherwise she would go blind. I was a little shocked that they didn't have the ability to provide sedation to ease her nerves considering he told her if she moved even a little that she would go blind as if it's no big deal to have someone slicing a cyst out of your eyeball. His response was that he didn't have any Valium in his back pocket to give to her therefore NO there is nothing to do to keep her calm. He also said because she is 16 and may not listen she has to promise she would remain still. Basically, I've never experienced such an unprofessional doctor ever and highly recommend to stay away from this practice. read more

I made an appt to update my prescriptions for my distance, computer, & reading glasses, that I've worn for years & years. One eye is +225 & the left, with astigmatism is +275. I guessed on the last two lines of the eye chart, chuckling & telling the assistant I couldn't see either one. The last line, I must've been guided by an angel, because I've never gotten that one. Next I found 5 or 6 patients ahead of me in the "waiting corridor" & after, oooohhh, 45 minutes, long after I'd given up my seat, I was called in. The doctor was prompt (sic). He came 2 steps into the room & told me I could leave, as I had 20/20 vision. Never mind that I had no update on my cataract. Never mind that I could not read a single letter on a page @ 8", computer @ 16" or 50" tv @ 8 ft across the room without glasses. I'm a disabled Viet vet with ptsd & anxiety issues. Well, I don't "have ptsd." For a 100% disability you're pretty screwed up! You'd only need a step or two in my shoes to understand the anxiety, confusion & migraine. It took all my gumption to make the appt & show up. I ended up telling "the doctor," "Reaaaally?" He affirmed. So mad as I was I got up, putting on my distance glasses as I exited. I should've complained or asked for another doctor. I should've refused the copay. But that user unfriendly kiosk had put my day into another world of fog the minute I arrived. It's been a couple of years now, & I've more or less just chewed on this turd ever since. Come covid, with a five-year-old Lenscrafters prescription (another story, indeed) that of course cannot anymore be called up-to-date, & successive missing screws & dropped-out lenses later, I found myself a few weeks ago with only my reading glasses, hovering 8" over my keyboard, nose up to the screen, my tv annoyingly fuzzy from across the room. Do not go here!!! Everyone is so rude and unprofessional. I came here to get a second opinion and my schedule was booked wrong by the call center person and I was still charged. I asked to speak with a manager because the front desk staff doesn't have the slightest clue what they're doing. I called at least 15 times, got a call back once after business hours. Called back again because I missed the call and still haven't heard back, that was 2 months ago. When I finally was scheduled with the correct doctor, I had to wait an hour past my appointment time to see a doctor. No one apologized, they just said they were busy. My appointment was at 8:30am so I don't know how they were so far behind. Save your money and your time and stay away! read more

I made an appointment for a routine eye exam last week. The receptionist took my information over the phone; I told her what insurance I had. Today, I arrived promptly for my appointment. Like Raymond noted in his review, the receptionist pointed at the kiosks. Both kiosks were giving me trouble, and the receptionist had to help me with it anyway. I then sat and waited for a bit, until the receptionist called me and said that they don't take my insurance. I would have appreciated it if they told me when I made the appointment. I have been going there for 5 years. Today I was told my insurance came back as ineligible, same insurance I have had forever. I asked if they could call the insurance company, the receptionist told me that I should call them. I then waited 15 minutes while they tried to verify my eligibility. I had an eye appointment scheduled for myself and my husband for our annual eye exam. Carter Tallman is retired and he is the doctor we always went to so I asked for another ophthamologist and was given one - nothing more was said about the doctor to me. Our exams were normal other than I needed long distance glasses and the doctor said my eyes were a bit dry. I received a bill for over $100 (my insurance covers my visits at 100%) and when I called to question this bill I was told that the doctor I saw was strictly a doctor for patients that call with a problem and want to be seen for that problem. I stated that no one told me this and I told the person I spoke with that I called for an annual eye exam and never mentioned a problem. I was then told, "you must have said you had a problem or you wouldn't have gotten an appointment with that doctor (so I am liar is what she was saying)"! I asked to speak to the doctor that examined my eyes but he never called me back. I eventually spoke with HR to voice my complaint but that quickly ended as I'm sure HR was told not to communicate with me. I always liked Tallman Eye (in particular Carter) but will never go back again. I told my story to friends and have heard more negative experiences with Tallman. I see from other reviews that I am far from the only patient with complaints. Tallman has lost 3 patients alone in my family. read more

Dr. Johnson is awesome but his front desk staff are horrible! They sit there and talk in Spanish laughing loudly. They make smart remarks and talk bad about the patients in Spanish. They must not know I myself am Puerto Rican because they had said some things about me also. read more

It would be great if they would post somewhere on their website or tell people when they call that the Haverhill vision center closes for lunch. I spoke to someone on 3 different occasions and they NEVER mentioned they close for lunch. Nor is it stated online that the vision center closes for lunch. Not good customer service! read more

THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH THIS PLACE IS THE RUDE SECRETARIES AT THE FRONT DESK! Same situation with me and the insurance as John D had, but for me it got a little worse so I know my insurance was active af SO I CALLED THEM on speaker because I knew the girl at the front desk wouldn't and as soon as I got it verified I told her to speak to them herself and she mumbled something in spanish MY THING IS IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY - SAY IT TO ME SO I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU! So once she got the CORRECT info and had to actually do her job she got even more annoyed with me for being more efficient than she would or could ever be!! The Doctors are great - if you can get past the rude receptionist its a good place to go! But you should probably be ready to hear lots of shit talking in spanish! read more
