A little disappointing for dinner, considering the overall ratings. Had a great table, decent service, and I enjoyed the ambiance. A lot of great chefs pictured on the walls, a portrait of Anthony Bourdain looked down at us onto our table. Surprisingly, despite the "chef-y" menu & decor vibes, the food itself was lackluster. Ordered the wedge salad, which came out warm and limp (iceberg lettuce is typically crisp, and not the temperature I was expecting). Calamari was ok, flavorful but over charred on the grill. The burger was jazzed up yet nothing to write home about. I also frowned that a bread order was $5; at a certain price point, bread should either be complimentary or it's own app worth the price. First of all, the service in this place was AMAZING, top notch. Located directly across the street from the Alex Johnson Hotel, we decided to walk over and try it and we were not disappointed. Happy hour and small plates from 4-6pm. My husband got the skirt steak that was on top of cheesy mash and Brussels sprouts. I got the "Pinot and Pork" special. We drove from Mt. Rushmore area to have brunch at Tally's upon the recommendation of friends. The staff was very friendly and the place was busy with tourists and locals. Overall a very cute place. Feels like a diner though so keep that in mind if coming for dinner. Famous chef decor inside, very attentive staff. I came for lunch and it was busy in a very pleasant way. I ordered the Donald and Porky sandwich since there is some French influence here and I love Foie Gras. They serve it on a hamburger bun. Yuck. The whole thing has great flavor but is all mush. Should be on toasted sourdough for texture. Also the bread isn't noted on the menu, so maybe ask to be sure you get what you like. So we decided to go to tally's for our last night in RC, and wow that was a good decision. We had such EXCELLENT service and the food was very good. Both my sister and I had the spicy veggie linguini and we were both so impressed. The server was so nice and helped us choose the right things. The Bowl was huge and full of pasta and a good amount of fresh sautéed veg. I had a nice sprinkle of cheese to finish. So tasty. I had a glass of moscato and because it was "Happy Hour" (!!!) I visited this restaurant while on a business trip. A local recommended I go there for breakfast as it is directly across from the Alex Johnson hotel. The portions were huge and the food was tasty. This is a must visit for a culinary treat. We were heading home after Mount Rushmore trip and stopped for breakfast. Atmosphere, food and service were amazing. I had the special Monte Crisco duck confit with a berry glaze and jalapeño gastrique , my wife had the lox and bagels, my daughter had the ham and egg crepes and we all shared the homemade granola with fresh berries and yogurt. Delicious menu options for breakfast in a very popular spot. We had to wait 40 min despite getting there at 830 on a Wednesday so just know that. But once you are in, service is efficient and friendly. Items are not cheap but several are quite good. Eggs ham and toast is decent but pricey. The veg option was very tasty: one egg on sautéed veg which were tomatoes, peppers, broccolini, mushrooms and sweet potatoes. A welcome meal with vegetables for a change but they do use a lot of grease so not light and they are a little heavy handed with the garlic. The star is the oatmeal whole wheat waffles! Delicious with crunchy edges and the vanilla yogurt basil served with them sounds funky but was amazing. They refill coffee and tea before you even know you are getting low. So service was perfect. Updated review 2 years later...we were back in town from our 2020 visit and decided to come back since this was such a memorable spot. We came back a few nights before our return home and could not get in. We decided to make reservations and made it in the following night. The service and food was so amazing that we had to do one last night before our return home. Now we wanted to mix it up a bit. The menus is really amazing by itself but we had to try the "indecision" menu. This is 1-5 course menu that are selected by the chef...we did the 5 course menu and requested low carb/keto. It was not only delicious but fun! It was truly a memorable experience. 5 courses may be a little bit for most, but I had to give it a shot....I was not disappointed. Every course was totally amazing and delicious! I will share my courses, but they change with each chef and visit. Thanks once again for the great food Tally's Silver Spoon! Tally's Sometimes you feel you need to give someone a 3 or a 4 star but you give them a 5? Or vice a versa? Well this to me, was one of those nights. There's so many great choices but we decided to do the chef inspired menu, it was called the indecision menu, loved that! Chef Jerid put together a three course meal. We started with perfectly cooked shrimp with cucumber slices and a sweet chili sauce, yum. Second course was the "Summer Picnic Salad", incredible. Grilled Romain The entreé was: "Native Bison". look it up. Corn cake, strawberries, hello....unfortunately When it came out of the kitchen it was sooooo over cooked, so just call it bison jerky. When we decided to do the "indecision menu" (chef inspired), there was a couple things that we shared. We weren't allergic to anything and we liked our meat medium rare. When we receive the buffalo entrée it was as if we ordered buffalo jerky! It was dry, hard, tasteless and tough. Unfortunately my husband chewed through it but I couldn't. I ask for them to have the chef cooked me some buffalo medium rare. It was night and day. The M-R Buffalo was perfect, why did chef Jerid allow the first buffalo to leave his kitchen, just adequate? The main reason that I am giving him a five is because sometimes we have downtime, and I will expect the next time to be extraordinary. Terrible exoerience. Food gets two thumbs down. I was ordering my dinner by 5:15pm, when the restaurant was mostly empty at that time. My dinner wasn't being delivered to me until 6:20pm. I ordered the SoDak Seoul Noodles. I thought maybe the hour wait with my order was from the kitchen making homemade noodles, which I can get behind... BUT Half the noodles were completely dough. This was a total disappointment and disgusting. The chicken in the plate was also very dry/tough. I come to Rapid City once a month for work and always look for the places with the best ratings. Maybe I came on a fluke of a night but I won't be coming back. Instead, I'll be going to Dakota Steakhouse where the food doesn't take an hour to come to the table and it's been consistently good food and service every visit to Rapid City. read more

I'm very impressed to come and eat at this establishment especially seeing one of my top 5 chef's displayed on the wall. Truly an dining experience to come and partake in. I had the banana lechc with candied walnuts and sweet basil with a side of bacon and a egg over easy. Really enjoyed it and the signature mimosas. We had a breakfast/brunch at Tally's Silver Spoon today. It's a Sunday so there were a number of people waiting. We probably waited about 45 minutes even though they told us it would be 25 minutes. It was worth it though, and we were able to see the statues of presidents at each corner and Art Alley while waiting. You view the menu by scanning the QR code on the table. They have lots of delicious sounding breakfast options. Our orders included a variety of eggs, pancakes, potatoes/hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, bagels, chorizo and avocado. The service was great and quick. Lots of room inside and out. Part of the wait may be that they are trying to space out their guests, but it is a popular place. Give it try! We enjoyed it. read more

Had a great breakfast at Tally's when we were visiting. My mom grew up in Rapid City and remembered it from a while ago but had never been. Food was very good, service was outstanding. There were a lot of dishes that looked good so it was hard to decide. I ended up going with the Ham and Cheese Crepes, my family got the House Made Pecan Vanilla Granola and Biscuits and Gravy with the hash brown casserole. I moved that there were so many delicious looking options and lots of potential substitutes for those that have dietary restrictions. Can't wait to come back the next time we are in town! read more

Only reasons I have to give it a 3/5 is because a lot of people at my table received cold food and then I was also a little bothered when I saw that my dish was $4 more on my bill than it says it is on the menu (not referring to tax or a service charge). It's only $4 so I just paid up but I don't think it's fair to advertise one price and charge another. I wouldn't mind coming back again but if the price hike thing happened again I'd probably speak up next time. read more

Very cute and great breakfast options. Was looking for a good patio for breakfast and found a great place to enjoy the weather and people watch. I had the Lox Plate and loved it. The bagel was soft on the inside and had a nice toast on the outside. I liked the addition of arugula to this traditional bagel sandwich, it paired really well with the salmon and the herb cream cheese. A four-minute egg is one of my favorites with its jammy consistency but rarely find them at restaurants. All employees I witnessed were having fun with their tables and seemed to be in a good mood. The tables all seemed to be having fun with their servers (they were funny and fun), myself included. I was just in town for a business trip but would highly recommend and will definitely re-visit if I'm back in the area. read more

I did not have much time for lunch so I decided to stop here. There is metered parking adjacent to the restaurant, but I found free 2 hour parking within short walking distance, about 2 blocks. The restaurant is marked by the statue of Ronald Reagan in a cowboy hat out front. The restaurant has a dining area with tables and a bar area. I was crunched for time so I sat at the bar. Even though it was lunch time, I had a craving for breakfast. They have limited hours, but serve breakfast most of the day. My server was very friendly. I could not find what I wanted on the menu, so I showed her photo and Yelp and she was able to make it happen from there. I got french toast smothered in fruit and whip cream with a side of potatoes. Sorry mom, but it was one of the better breakfasts that I have had in a while. It came out very quickly. Even though I was not able to partake, they have mimosas that I hear a pretty good. When another nearby restaurant had an hour-long wait, we decided to give this place a try and we were pretty glad that we did! The carbonara I had (see picture) was fantastic; I don't know why it's a dish that is so hard to find, even most Italian places don't offer it. Mom's chicken parmesan was great, she said. And even my boyfriend, the pickiest of the three of us, said that his chicken sandwich and fries were excellent. Alex was friendly if a bit slow to attend to us. Normally the speed would not have been an issue, but given that few staff (including Alex) were wearing masks, we were feeling a bit uncomfortable. The outside tables were full when we came and it was getting late on a Sunday, so other options were lacking. The sign on the door indicating that masks for patrons and staff were optional is the wrong move. read more

I had a simple breakfast special - egg, bacon, and pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and verrrrrrry good. My parter choose the Really French Toast loaded with berries and cream. It looked awesome and the one bite i was able to steel was great. I think the service was slow, but they kept refilling our coffees and keeping us informed. In other words we were not forgotten. This used to be my absolute favorite restaurant in town, in fact I've easily told hundreds of people who were visiting my hometown to eat here. While I'm back in town and tried to go in for breakfast today with my father, and things have changed for the worse. The experience started off with the hostess stating both that the bar seats were open seating and that they were on the waitlist following it up with "it is hard to explain". Without a clear understanding of the policy we were waiting inside for bar seats to finish closing out their checks, as it's February and cold outside. We were waiting just inside the entryway/doors, along with another party of two, and after a couple minutes we were told we had to "wait across the street at Starbucks". (Please note Tally's is not associated with Starbucks, the Hotel Alex Johnson, nor Liv Hospitality.) When we were told this both parties, along other restaurant customers, expressed confusion about by this. The other party then asked to speak to manager, in order to verify this policy and after a few minutes (in fact I had already sat at two bar seats that opened up) the manager Dee came over reiterated the policy and said we all "had to wait at Starbucks". I proceeded to verify with Dee that Liv Hospitality, the owner of the Starbucks, was aware of and condoned this policy, and Dee proceed to explicitly state that they had permission to send customers there and that "nobody else had ever complained". (Based on other recent negative reviews calling out this policy, Dee blatantly lied about this. I'll also update this review after verifying with Liv Hospitality, if they are in fact aware of this policy.) When one of the other gentlemen stated that if they were forced to wait at Starbucks they wouldn't be back, Dee responded "that's fine we don't need your business!" (This was said in a spiteful and condescending tone.) She then proceed to demand that all 4 of us leave the restaurant and wait across the street, even though 6 bar seats (2-1-2) were available along with multiple other tables. Not to mention that we were already sitting at two of the seats next to friends I knew who were eating at the bar. Based on this extremely negative experience and massive customer service failure, I can no longer recommend Tally's to people. These policies and the attitude of the management is a great way to run off long term and very loyal customers. It will also do irreparable harm to Chef Klinkel's reputation. In order to help address these shortcoming. First, ensure your policies are clear and implemented with consistency with regard to bar seating (as my friends that were eating at the bar said it was open seating when they arrived 30 minutes prior.) Second, if Dee's statement about not needing loyal customers is the official position of Tally's Silver Spoon and Delmonico Grill owner Chef Klinkel, I would be shocked based my prior conversations with him and his commitment to both his restaurants and reputation. If this is in fact not his position, this point of view/attitude of his staff needs to addressed; as a number of recent reviews have cited a similar position/attitude from various staff members. Third, directing, in fact demanding, that your clientele essentially trespass and wait at a competitors business causing their seating to be occupied is improper. Especially when it is misrepresented by management that permission has been provided for this to occur. Fourth, Dee is not equipped and should not be serving in the role of manager nor in any customer service capacity. Not to mention that she was willing to lie directly to customers about items which are easily proved false with a quick google search. read more
