My experience at Tal's Cafe today Friday, August 25, 2025. The cafe was extremely busy. Two ladies working- one at the counter/register the other focused on the tables. Both ladies seem to be doing their best to accommodate the customers, politely acknowledging guest as they approached, taking orders, operating the register, etc. Shortly after receiving my food I noticed my toast was missing. I informed the waitress who turned around and grabbed a plate of toast sitting on the counter. I quickly informed the waitress that toast she's serving me had been sitting on the counter for over the 30 minutes I waited for my food. The waitress takes a few steps over to the cooks informing them of what I said one. One of the cooks takes the plate, tosses the toast back on the grill. I could see & hear a little laughter amongst the cooks. I WAS SO UPSET! I asked the waitress working the counter for a to go container & the check. The waitress did ask what was wrong - in that moment the other waitress was returning with that same toast. I was literally so upset I could not give a dignified response. My dad was craving salmon croquettes so off to Tal's we went. I'm so glad we went he enjoyed his breakfast and it was less expensive than our usual breakfast spot. The waitress was very nice. I'll be back to try the pancakes! read more

Ugh nasty just nasty. It was a pretty busy spot but I don't see how. The food took way too long to come out. All the food look dark or some different color. I think because it's being cooked on a dirty grill IDK. Orange pancakes and orangy looking waffles. Why? Greasy dark looking hash browns. I didn't touch them.Very unappealing. Let me start off by saying you feel welcomed as soon as you open the door. The servers are so polite. The food was delicious, albeit a bit greasy, which threw me off because I opted for a veggie omelette for health purposes but backfired. I hadn't been to this place in about 20 years. When I walked in it looked like it. It is evident that the original owners sold the business to someone that does not care about being there nor the community in which the restsurant serves. The last time in dined there, the restaurant was full! Today it looked like a ghost town except for the regulars (who probabaly live down the street from Tal's) and the (current) owner was in the kitchen cooking with an expression on his face that said he could give less than a damn about anything. Horrible. I ordered a breakfast special with 2 eggs sunny side up. The eggs were undercooked! I asked for 2 new eggs over medium and never got them. The server was nice and aplogetic about forgetting my eggs but service could use a MAJOR improvement. After I finished my breakfast, I was ready to go. I had brought my best friend visiting from out of town there and I was actually embarrassed that he had to witness and experience this in incredible lack of service. Mixed between wanting to give 2 or 3 stars but only got 3 stars because the food is actually really good !!BUT the service is TRASH, AND yall need to update yall hours on google and yelp because it says you close at 3pm but yall start closing a whole 40 minutes before the time it says yall close. I done drove all the way there made it there by 2:20pm and wasnt able to order to-go or even sit down. Very upset considering im full term and pregnant. Ruined my entire day with that! I really Enjoy this place for breakfast. It was my first time. It took a while to get served because there was only one waitress. But she was awesome. The catfish was light and flaky. The coffee was strong. The vanilla Creamer was a nice touch. The home fries were delicious. The chicken wings were delicious. The Grits reminded me of my southern upbringing. Everything was really good, their coffee was amazing and it was just Folgers but I can't make Folgers taste that good at my house. The salmon was the only thing that was a little off, I kept crunching on what I thought were pieces of eggshell, I could be wrong but that was not pleasing although the salmon itself was really good. The chefs were dope, customer service was really good, we enjoyed the music playing I thought it was a great atmosphere I am a little hard of hearing so I had to ask a couple times to please repeat what was said but that's just a problem for us hard of hearing folks haha. parking could be a problem on busy days but the neighborhoods are long so for sure will find parking maybe walk a little. Love the food and the fact that it is in-fact now* black-owned. My only issue here is that I think the new owners did a great job of owning this neighborhood staple, but they haven't learned how to process orders in a timely fashion and prepare food on the menu in a reasonable time. I also noticed that the cooking oil was a little dark which means they need to replace it because the flour at the bottom is probably burned. eventually that will have an impact on the taste of whatever they fry in there. Hoping ownership reads this and tries to address those changes and I think this could make a world of difference. Would love to come back here and see a difference in those areas. I did a call-in order and the gentleman who answered the phone told me 30 minutes and of course it took closer to an hour. Things happen but I feel that if a person is monitoring the kitchen and the flow of traffic, they can give a reasonable expectation of how long it might take growing pains that I hope they're able to fix. Congrats again to the new owners! Side note: just ate my wings and you can actually taste the burnt flour. Also, I would recommend having the young people you have hired be runners, and perhaps hire an experienced waitress. Once the flow gets going, then you'll have time to train, but to have all that traffic, and then inexperienced waiters and waitresses, I think that'll hurt your business a little more because you'll burn those people that could be regulars. Always drove passed this gem coming out here, but when I saw it on social media I had to come try for myself! They did not disappoint! Now, the place is pretty small and gets packed quick. The service wasn't the absolute best, but the hospitality was very welcoming and made sure we were taken cared of. Let's get to the best part..the food!!
