Five days. That's all it took. It took me five days of living in the area to fall in love with Tamale Factory. The food here is amazing. I tried the Jalapeno, Pork, and Chicken tamales and every single one was great. When I went to the counter to get my order the woman behind the counter told me she gave me another Jalapeno tamale for free because "they are small". Granted, the Jalapeno tamale was smaller than the Chicken or Pork, but the Jalapeno tamale was still a great size. The food is fairly priced for the portions you get and it's well worth checking out. They do have a small menu, but everything on their menu is extremely well made. read more

Ordered for delivery on Postmates. Really good sized meal with two tamales and rice and beans. I love the rice, beans were a little flavorless but salt helped. Tamales are good and full (I got chicken) although a little drier than I'd like. They give you the same salsa with the tamale as the chips and salsa and I don't like it. I don't eat tamales very often, because I always worry they will be dry. These weren't! I think my favorite was the pork and green chili. Prices were very reasonable. Some of the best Homemade Authentic Tamales ever! Much cheaper if you take home a half dozen and smother them with some good chili. Take Out Only... Went on a Friday afternoon and had to wait 15 minutes to place my order, It might be better to call in your order a head of time. Definitely worth the wait! I love trying new places and came all the way to Gresham to check out this place. First trip I arrived at 7:01 to find out they close their doors at 7:00. The dude inside shrugged and locked it as he saw me coming up. Ok Whatevs. 2nd time out I realized the first trip summed it up. Their tamales are a little expensive for my tastes but not too bad... The people working there are not very helpful and I found my ordering process confusing. How can ordering some tamales be a confusing process you ask? I don't know... Their seating is pretty horrible if you're lucky enough to get one of the two tables they have, and they do not have salsa to eat with your tamales though they'll sell you a tiny tub of poor tasting salsa for an extra $4. The tamales themselves were below average but not terrible. I tried pork and jalapeno, since they were sold out of everything else but beans. Who eats bean tamales anyways... that's weird. So the pork was good but could've used more pork. The Jalapeno was supposed to be jalapeno and cheese, but it seems to be just jalapeno. It was OK, but a bit lacking without some cheesy goodness. Got their special for New Year's Eve, and the whole experience was not great. First of all, I confirmed their closing time on both their website and Facebook page before ordering our tamales; the closing time was right before I needed to pick my son up from basketball, so would work out well. I then placed our order. About 20 minutes later, I start getting calls on my phone asking, when could we please pick up our order, because they want to close early. Ummm...what? If you're official enough to have a website, FB page, etc, you need to stand by your word. So....i head into town to quickly pick up my tamales; upon getting them, I asked, Is my salsa in here? (The promised reward for ordering on New Years). Sorry, no salsa left, don't know how to help you. When I complained on their FB page, they said they would be glad to "reward" me with an upgrade on my next meal, once I pay for six tamales. So let me get this straight, if I make another purchase, after inconveniencing me, you will THEN upgrade me a salsa??? Plus, the tamales we got that night were obviously the last of batch; WAY too much masa compared to filling. Stopped here for a bite to eat aftet a snowy hike on Mt. Hood. The tamale factory is located inside of a converted gas station that used to be a taco del mar. The inside is minimalist, and clean with bar style seating inside, and tables outside. We had the chicken, and jalepeno and cheese tamales, they were spiced well, warm, and tasty, especially with the salsa. Also tried a seasonal Chipotle bbq. Best bbq tamale ever! Come children and listen to a story... When I was young I HATED tamales they were always dry and crumby and tasted like corn poop. It figures that Tamale Factory would have great tamales because, after all, the word "tamale" is part of their name and also, when I saw their menu, it's OBVIOUS that's their specialty because that's all they have. There's a variety of tamales to choose from so I ordered a Two Tamale Combo with my choices being Pork in Green Salsa and Beef & Bean Chili. I chose Mexican Rice and Black Beans as my two sides. They also have Cilantro Rice, which sounds interesting and I'll try some other time. OK, both tamales were very fresh tasting and delicious. Also, the ratio of fillings to masa was very good. . .there was plenty of tasty ingredients in the middle. They don't skimp on the "good stuff". They are located in a strip mall and their space is small, so the seating area is quite limited. There was only one other customer besides me who was eating there. However, during the time I was sitting there eating, a steady stream of customers came in to get food to go. Obviously, a lot of people know they have great food. . .and I know it too now. Yuck! Worst tamales I've ever had. I would give zero stars if I could. Big thick roll of dry flavorless masa with just a pathetic smidgeon of meat in the middle. Geeze how hard is it to add a little chicken stock and lard into your masa to make it at least a little moist and palatable? And the amount of pork inside was insulting. Good for profit, bad for business. I have and will continue to tell everyone I know not to stop here only to be disappointed. I must be eating at a different Tamale Factory than some of these 5 star reviewers. Or maybe they are friends and family of the owners. All I can say is that far from being underwhelming the tamales were dry, had very little filling, and 4 people I fed were ticked off and hungry. That's right - me, hubby, best friend, and neighbor. All of us swore to never darken their doorway again. The salsa was bad and the rice was dry and bland. I'm stuffed! As a vegetarian, I've kept track over the years of which Mexican restaurants carry cheese tamales. Most places only have pork or beef. Well, hooray for Tamale Factory because they have THREE varieties of vegetarian tamales. And they're delicious! I had tried their cheese and jalapeno tamale and their bean and cheese tamale when they were only available via mail but today I was able to pick some up fresh at their new storefront in downtown Gresham. I also got some yummy cilantro rice and salsa brava. I love how everything is made with fresh ingredients and the rice isn't greasy like I usually find it at Mexican shops. I brought them home, topped them with the salsa, sliced avocado and some cotija cheese and we had a delicious dinner. My husband is a salsa snob and he loved their salsa.
