Let's start with the good-- it's a good price for a lot of food. The food is decent, not inedible, but not mind blowingly good. Maybe a step above an elementary school lunch. Their salsa was good though! I got the pork soft tacos. The pork was flavored very well, but dry. Very dry. The tacos themselves were not dry. Whoever thought it was a good idea to dump pico de gallo on top of the outside of the burritos is very mistaken. The tortillas were floppy and weren't able to hold. 3/3 of my tacos broke in half because they were so soggy. Also, "pico de gallo" isn't the best term... it was maybe 75% lettuce. Good thing was that there was a lot of teeny jalapeño pieces for a small kick, but there wasn't nearly enough tomato. The frijoles refritos were just okay. I liked that they weren't salty. The rice was definitely too salty. Bottom line, I didn't hate it, but I probably wouldn't go back. read more

Its usually the hole's in the wall that have the Mexican food to die for... this is the exception. Strolled in as it was one of the few options in the neighborhood. Ordered the green chili plate to the dismay (or what it seemed like) of the younger gentleman at the register. He lets out a "sigh" as I order and looked as if it was a huge imposition to take my order. The food was ready in 5 minutes, and I sat down to chow down. Immediately I was scowled at by the younger gentleman who took my order who then piped up "you said that was 'to go.'" I looked around the restaurant and I was one of two people in the restaurant. Shrugged it off and dug in. The Mexican rice that the plate came with was hard, near flavorless. The green chili was red and was a slop of uncut pork and a few pepper. It was disappointing to say the least. The rest of the day turned into a bit of a nightmare. My stomach was in knots. We come here a lot and we like the food. BUT they cannot handle the pressure of having to many customers at one time. They have signs up saying check your food before leaving because they are not responsible. So when you do this they get upset and argue. So you have to pull stuff out to show them what they forgot. Listen take that sign down if you don't want us to do our part. You forgot the green Chile on the side that I paid for. That's not my fault, so getting upset with the customers doesn't make it right for something we paid for. This went through 2 people, the cook and the expeditor before it got to me. I just did my part in making sure I got what I paid for. So toning down the attitude with people who are not trying to get things for free would be a good idea. ESP when the customer is being nice in the whole process. Everyone is not trying to get stuff for free, there are still honest people out here. read more

Let me start by saying the food is fine. My wife and I were trying to find a go to breakfast burrito place when we moved to the area, so we tried TK at the suggestion of a coworker. The breakfast burritos are better than anything I've had in this area so we generally stop in on Sundays for brunch. I really like the bacon, potato, and egg special or the chorizo special. I haven't had any lunch stuff, but some of my coworkers grab lunch from TK and say it's good enough. The employees... Yikes. Manny, the guy that does the cooking, is nice and there's another younger guy that helps him out who is cool. Other than that, most everyone else gives off the "why are you here?" vibe. One of the young guys is really bad. I figure he's related to someone in management or ownership. That's the only thing I can come up with for why he's still there despite being either dismissive or rude to everyone. Yes, everyone. On a Sunday when its packed and you have nothing else to do but stand around in a tiny restaurant and wait for your order, customers hear and see everything, something ownership and management should take into consideration. I would really would love to stop coming here, but it's right around the corner AND I work nearby. Like one of the more positive reviews said, its basically fast food. I just went this morning to get a breakfast burrito. My sister lives very close and told me they are good so I went and ordered the chorizo and egg breakfast burrito, special style (with green chile and cheese inside). The woman who helped me at this restaurant was very sweet and helpful. The burrito was huge and I could only eat half. The flavor was delicious despite the fact that I forgot to ask for salsa. I would definitely recommend this place. The only thing that was off was that they gave me a chorizo, egg, and potato burrito when I ordered the chorizo and egg but it still tasted good so I wasn't upset. read more

Seriously the BEST tamales you can get from any restaurant anywhere and at VERY reasonable prices! They offer mild, red chile with pork and hot, green chile with pork and vegetarian are also available upon request. I have yet to try to he veggie ones, but the red and green are so freaking good!! Just an FYI, if you aren't used to spicy, go with the mild because even those are a tad spicy. Oh and the green chile...some of the best you will ever have! If you have a few to feed, a great deal is the family meal #1...a dozen tamales, a pint of beans, a pint of rice, a pint of green chile, a dozen tortillas and a 2 liter of pop...and guess what? This location NEVER answers a phone and have a sign admitting how that can't run a business and answer telephone orders at the same time. Tonight I called at 7:38pm (expecting them not to answer) just to have someone pick up the phone and leave it off the hook. So I went in and walked up at 7:48 pm just to find the lights were off, door locked, and they were counting down the door. The hours of operation say frm 8:00 am until 7:50 pm. It's bad enough they are not professional enough to last that 10 extra minutes but then to close down even 5 minutes earlier than that? You dont want my business? The way this restaurant is ran is disappointing. First, they promote pick up orders; however, they NEVER answer the phone (I am not exaggerating. They have never answered the phone and I call at least 2 to 3 times a week just hoping that maybe they change their ways and answer the phone. I've done this for over two years now and no such luck. You think one would just give up! Wish their stupid burritos weren't so tasty. Dang them!!). This is extremely frustrating and frankly, inexcusable. I am often in a hurry on my way to work and I call in my breakfast orders for wherever I'm stopping for the day. But because they don't answer the phone, I don't stop in and have to go somewhere else. Second, they nickel and dime you for everything. For example, if you want a side of salsa and you didn't buy a taco, extra cost for you. Sour cream you say, just go buy a whole container at the grocery store next door, it'd be cheaper and you'll be back before they are done making your food. Third, the staff is never impressed me. At no time have I ever felt welcomed this place. I could go on, but I'm over it. I just wish the owner would get their stuff straight. read more

Most of the food here is above average, for the money. I get my wife a smothered bean and cheese burrito, my daughter a tamale plate and myself a smothered bean and beef burrito, all for around $16, including taxes. Their ground beef is seasoned well (basic, but goid) and their beans are exactly what I expect refried beans to be. My daughter loved the tamales but I have not tried them myself. With that said, the accolades end there. My "go to" burrito is typically of the chicken variety. I've order a chicken burrito from here three times...and been disappointed three times as well. There is absolutely no seasoning to be tasted in this chicken. Hence, I'm now ordering beef and bean. Also, there seems to be a permanent "Help Wanted" sign hanging in the window (for the previous 8 months) and the lack of experience in their staff shows. The last three times I've been in here the person taking my order is "lost" with the cash register, searching for the proper keys to enter the order and I've had one person texting someone while I was ordering. I've had to correct the orders several times in the last eight months. The staff who expedite the orders can't seem to properly bag things when they are "to go" and the green chili that smothers the burritos also smothers everything in the bag. The cook (whom I believe is also the owner) has always been there whenever I go in and he's fairly consistent with his demeanor and his service, but far from "friendly". Overall, I've learned a few ways to make my visit a bit less frustrating. I place my order and then stand right there to watch the food being prepared. If anything isn't correct, I bring it to the attention of the cook. Also, I've started ordering the green chili to smother the burritos on the side. But, honestly, if it wasn't for this place being less than two miles from my house and easy on my wallet I doubt I would be a repeat customer read more

Sadly, I will never give this location a dime ever again. I went in on a Saturday for two breakfast burritos, total was $7.50, paid with a debit card. Checked my account the next day and saw that I was charged $103.64. Went back with my receipt and none of the workers knew what happened and all played dumb. Every day I was calling and asking about the status of getting my money back. Each day I was told I had to wait for either the manager or owner to come in. Spoke with my bank and they told me to wait a few more days and see if the amount had posted. Sadly enough it posted as such. Called and called each day with the same BS response. Finally heard back from Melissa, the manager. Was told she would refund my money and that there was an issue when the tip was entered? Hmm...just seems shady. My bank ended up crediting my account. Dedicated Tamale Kitchen customer until now. I am so freakin angry at their staff that I highly doubt I will be back. Finally remembered to grab a Buy 2 burritos, get the 3rd free coupon that shows up (intermittently) in the local community flyer. Wanted to order a beef and bean burrito, one pork, and a breakfast ham and egg. First, they were out of pork. Ok. I'm sure that happens. But it's their dishonesty I can't handle. Whereas, I *maybe* could understand a bitch attitude declining the coupon bc, I don't know, I added a breakfast burrito; I was told it wasn't even their coupon. Hey, asshats: why do you think, after I cut out the coupons, I write which restaurant it belongs to? Do I really need to rip out the entire page showing your name on it for you to honor this advertisement? If so, it's not f*cking worth it. Fancy, no. Tasty, yes! The green chili is spicy but has lots of flavor! I love the rellano burrito (I pay the extra .50 to make it a crispy rellano), smothered. They have burritos plain, special (cheese and green chili on the inside), and smothered (cheese and green chili on the top). The beans are creamy and tasty. I usually have to have sour cream too! I'm a little whimpy with the spicy. I've read other reviews about the staff being rude and I've never experienced anything that they're talking about. Just today I had a very pleasant conversation about Easter eggs with the woman taking my order! Even the guy who handed me my order smiled, I think if you go in being friendly, you'll get friendly back. I usually get takeout and it's always been flavorful and tasty. If you're whimpy about spicy, or want it to be extra fresh, you can get the green chili on the side then add it on at home. read more

So they put up a sign stating: "Customers, please check your food order before leaving. We are not responsible for missing food items". So if Tamale Kitchen staff fails and gets an order wrong, it's not their problem because customer didn't check their bag. Instead of imposing this on paying customers, maybe TK should hire friendlier staff with stronger attention to detail. TK would rather lose their repeat paying customers instead of covering missed items, despite that it's their employees jobs to ensure orders are prepared correctly. Some of the day staff have really poor attitudes overall and I rarely have a positive experience the last few times we've ordered from this location. read more
