If you're looking for something a bit upscale, there aren't many options in this area. Based on our Yelp research - the photos, the menu, and the 4+ star rating - we decided to try the Mansion House. It's a beautiful building and the chairs are comfortable. But everything else was disappointing. For starters, they sell Guinness beer - but only in cans!! Why bother? The onion rings we ordered for our appetizer seemed like something you'd find in the freezer section at Weis. The sauces provided on the side help with the taste, but they still have the made-in-a-factory texture. Not hand- battened and messy. For the main course, I ordered the salmon special which sounded delicious - cooked in some kind of bourbon-apple concoction - but it turned out to be meh! The chicken Caesar salad that my wife ordered was, if nothing else, a great value because it included what had to be over a pound of chicken! If you're the type that likes sharing entrees, you should consider the chicken Caesar salad. Overall the ambiance was nice and the service was okay, but the food was overpriced and nothing to get excited about. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place a two star review is because the chef wouldn't give me angle hair pasta with my shrimp scampi because the special of the night was shrimp scampi with additional seafood and capers. The chef said there would not be enough angle hair pasta for the special. Makes No Sense! Service was great! Our server was attentive and friendly. Ambiance was okay. Reservation @5:30 and it started out with drinks. Prosecco was flat. Room was an icebox and had to keep ur coats on. We ordered our food and it didn't come out until 7:30. I asked the manager why it took an hour and a half to make 3 platters. They claimed the kitchen made a mistake and sent a so called shrimp scampi to another table. My wife ordered chicken scampi. My shrimp scampi was made with white pasta with hardly any flavor to this dish and my wife's dish. I could have found a drunk in summit hill to cook these dishes. Absolutely terrible service and the food was bland and taste less. My mother in law got scallops and they were over salted and unbeatable. U could have thrown the sweet potato through the window. Visited for the first time since they changed ownership in April. Two stars since it was edible and wings ok. Definitely not the same! Makes me sad because this place used to be amazing, now it's just run of the mill bar food. Drink was awful. Wings were ok. Dinner came with salad-no more fresh vinaigrette, basic golden Italian bottle dressing. No more focaccia, not even a roll. Sauce appeared canned with some crushed tomatoes thrown in. No cheese for the pasta offered. Chicken was just sad. While everyone has an off night, we may give them another try, and I will update my review to reflect that, but this is no longer a diamond off the beaten path. Other visitors at the bar behaved as if it was 1am at cousin Joe's basement beer bong party and staff just ignored it. Our first visit to this establishment and it will not be our last. We were pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. We started with their lentil soup, we enjoyed it so much we asked for a take out container. We ordered, as suggested by Evelyn, beef osso bucco & and pan fried chicken cutlets - both were prepared to perfection. Very poor customer service. Reservation for 6:00. Our party of 5 adults were seated in the dining room where only one other couple was enjoying a meal. We ordered cocktails and dinner within the first 30 minutes of our arrival. We were served our drinks soon after. Time passed and 3 couples and a family of 5 were seated, served drinks, and bread and salads. We weren't served any food yet. Approximately 45 minutes later I asked our waitress what the hold up was in getting our 3 salads, 1 soup and bread. She said the other parties had reservations and they were doing the best they can. We eventually got our salads and bread. At this point all other customers were served and enjoying their entrees. I asked to speak to the manager who also told me they were doing the best they can. We were eventually served our entrees around 7:30. All of the afore mentioned customers who arrived after us were finished and leaving the restaurant. What I find most disturbing in regard to this restaurant and their staff is their complete disregard for customer service and lack of ownership of their inadequacies. Came back to the Mansion house last night. The food was great as always. I went on Wednesday wing night. Half priced wings all night. I actually had the yellowfin tuna which was delicious. It came with seaweed salad. Coming from a person who eats sushi, this tuna was raw and done perfectly. The entree included the tuna, salad, bread, seaweed salad, a vegetable and a choice of potato/couscous/risotto/fries. Once again, great service and atmosphere. Just tried this place for the first time. The atmosphere inside was very nice, and the seats were almost too comfortable. I ordered a chicken special, and my husband got a fish special. He also got a cup of soup that was very good, and the salad that I ordered was a step above the norm (red peppers and dried cranberries, yum!). The main courses were both good, and my side of risotto was my favorite part of the meal. The only problem we had was that parking was a bit of a mystery. The situation was not helped by recent snowfall. It may have been more clear if there hadn't been any snow on the ground. read more

We had an opportunity to finally try the mansion house. It was a pleasant surprise upon entering the beautiful surroundings the host Pat made us feel like we were being invited into his house. We had a wonderful meal and the service was great I can recommend this place for a good meal. Be Patient, It's Pretty Darn Good. Between Tamaqua, Coaldale and Lansford, there aren't a lot of choices for a nice dinner; this place is a great option. It's tucked in a quiet neighborhood and is a really nice Victorian mansion. When we first went in, there was no one to greet us, so we were not sure where to go or what to do, but it all worked out. The servers were mostly young teens, so they're still learning. HOWEVER, almost every dish we ordered was really great.Except the Clams Casino, the food was excellent not only for the Panther Valley, but for any restaurant located in even the largest metro area. The portions were large and the food prepared expertly. The chicken fried steak was topped with sausage gravy that was perfect. The chicken Baltimore was delicious and with a dozen of us, everyone loved their meal. A nice bar on one side of the building for casual fun and a Victorian dining room on the other. Food is expertly prepared and impeccably presented. Overall, a fine dining in Summit Hill. In particular, the crab cakes are succulent. This place is beautiful and the staff is friendly. The bartender (Pat) was very inviting and even gave me a tour of the place and told me about it's history as a brewery, a distillery, and even the use of it during prohibition. I ordered the smoked pork shoulder sandwich and it was done to perfection. Excellent food! They even had some of their own boilo behind the bar. Live music on Tues and Fri nights as well. I'm glad to see a place like this in the area. I will definitely be back. read more

Last time we were there my hubs got a cheese burger and the cheese was just placed on the meat and was not melted at all. French fries are not fresh made ... they are frozen. The waitstaff are very nice but she should have seen that the cheese was not melted( bun was open so you can clearly see. For $10 I think they need to make the platter more desirable. read more

I visited the Mansion House in Summit Hill PA with my brother and sister in law, while visiting my hometown of Tamaqua. I was totally taken by surprise at what I found at the Mansion House. It began with not just the beauty of the building and how well the interior was preserved with the chandeliers, the walls and woodwork and the overall ambiance which was much more than I expected, but also the friendliness and promptness of the wait staff. I felt that the only way to make this any better was with the food and that was the hit of the night. Between the three of us, we ordered the Clams Casino and the Fresh Mussels simmered in White Wine, Garlic, and Basil with a Tomato accent as an appetizer. These are two of my favorites and The Mansion House served what may be the best I have ever had. I easily could have made a dinner from just the sauce for the Mussels and I could not remember ever having Mussels that tender and tasty. No way did I think that the best was yet to come, but it was. For dinner, my brother ordered a Filet Mignon that could have be sliced with a plastic fork. He described it as having a steak that melted in the mouth with an abundance of flavor. My sister in law and I ordered the stuffed Salmon with Crab bake. This dish came with roasted veggies and roasted pineapple chunks and we paired both dishes with a very nice California Pinot Noir. Yes, the Salmon was even better than the appetizers. We finished with desserts of Key Lime Truffle Tart, Chocolate Lava cake and Strawberry short cake, but by now I was expecting only the best and the Mansion House delivered. Chef Barry Riegel, Sous Nicholas Allesch, Pastry Brenda Matula, you belong in New York City or San Francisco, but please don't go there to soon. This is an awesome restaurant. The cucumber wasabi salad dressing was great. The Turkey sandwich with cranberry and stuffing served with delicious fries and gravy for dipping was wonderful. And to top it off our waiter, Danny was both friendly and professional. The atmosphere was great as well.
