Stumbled on this gem after checking into the Camp Loge motel just 4 blocks away. Single wooden door on a side street, we heard live music and looked in, the vibe was calling us in! Great service from our charming waitperson, and we felt at home immediately despite being obvious non-locals as it appeared virtually every one else was - local. We ordered drinks and dinner Martinis and Smash Burgers - best we've had on the road in Montana. Monday night we were lucky! There was a six piece Bluegrass Band playing full on acoustic; no amps and no microphones. It was delightful and entertaining. The fish taco was good, red beans and rice also( although it could have had more rice. Our server Tom was very nice. When we arrive, which was mid morning I will say the place was kind of empty but sure enough by time we left almost all the tables were full. The atmosphere while is a little bit darker inside the restaurant it was like a little bit of a maybe music on the background. I had the chicken waffles and the chicken was perfectly done crispy very good taste and I had the zero with the aïoli mix which is great perfect for a little bit of a kick if you like some spiciness to your food. Went in the last hour of brunch & got a Bloody Mary. Asked waitress what comes with it and was met with an attitude. I've never been here & just wanted to know what came with it? Got a normal one due to the bartender "putting away the ingredients for the brunch Bloody Mary" but was still charged for a brunch Bloody Mary? Had the worst espresso martini of my life & our waitress seemed bothered to be serving us. Just a wanted a fun Sunday brunch however couldn't get out of there fast enough. I last visited the Old Post bar and restaurant 50 years ago. I hadn't been back because my primary memory was how long I had to wait for food. Ambiance is quaint and busy. People are sociable and much more conversational than cell phones. The long wait hasn't changed. Four tables with two people at each who were seated prior to us are still waiting for food, as are we. Customers are now asking servers how much longer the wait will be. I'm on my third cup of coffee. I probably won't be back. read more

Recommend by my niece, we went there for happy hour/early dinner. We sat outside in their spacious patio. The service was, interesting to say the least. Our server was slammed!!! She had a table of 12 and another table of 10, right next to us. It was hard to get her attention to order anything. The hostess came outside to help her with her tables, but I could tell that she wasn't happy about it. Anyway, we got our order in at the happy hour prices, which was nice!!! We split the hush puppies, which were ok. We also split the humus plate, which everyone thought was way under salted. My wife had the gumbo, I had the fish tacos, and Allison had a salad. Cool place to hang out on the deck and eat some food and enjoy a nice drink. Staff was very friendly and we had no issues getting drinks and food. The salted caramel fries with bacon were the best. The fish tacos were incredible but the Chicken and sausage gumbo missed the mark. It had almost no flavor and was thick and gooey not good. The biscuit that comes with it however was incredible. In not knocking this place but I did not care for the gumbo. Will I recommend this place, Yes. It is still a great place for food and drinks. I really enjoyed The Old Post! The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly and accommodating! We sat in the back patio area which was decorated super cute - patio lights everywhere and well laid out benches and tables There were a couple of loud/obnoxious patrons back there which cramped our vibes for a bit but they left relatively soon after we sat down - just wished the staff did something about it. I've been here and had great service, very little wait time, but my most recent visit waited an hour to get our food. Overpriced and noisy atmosphere. Not easy to have a conversation with my friend. I ordered the OP Breakfast - eggs over medium, hash browns, bacon and toast. How hard is it to cook this breakfast? The bacon and hash browns were very over cooked. The bacon was like cardboard. Hash Browns very crunchy and almost inedible. The bacon must've been cooked two hours before and left under a heat lamp. How a cook and server would serve this up to a customer is beyond me. The eggs were cooked properly, but I feel I could've gotten a better breakfast at the Oxford down the street, or an IHop or one of the local casinos for less money. Our order consisted of...2 chicken sandwiches, gumbo, kids chicken tenders and a cup of soup...first we were told...sorry your order didn't get placed right away...then, sorry our internet is down so we can't put the order in...Ok, here's a thought Gen Z, X 's or whatever the general age range is of servers ...grab a note pad, scrap of paper or whatever and write down the order and give it to the kitchen! Restaurants actually existed before pos systems or whatever system you're using that needs the internet to process an order!!! In not placing orders right away...when the system finally allows them to process...they come in all at once, slamming the kitchen, and as I was in the hospitality industry both front of house and back, I know how quickly things go from bad to worse! And when I started seeing other tables that came in after us getting their food, I wasn't not happy! When we were finished eating and wanted to get a couple sodas to go...they didn't come...I went up to the bar, where I could see the drinks sitting there and asked if I could have them, I was told they were trying to find lids! My suggestion was do those to go coffee cups have lids? Yes, ok put them in there and we're good to go! We finally got out of there after 6 and they adjusted the bill for our inconvenience but man I wish we would have gotten up and gone to the Iron Horse-I've never had a bad meal or service there!! Then our waitress disappeared for quite some time before taking our orders. The OP breakfast was really good - bacon, eggs (scrambled with white cheddar) toast and hash browns. I had a great brunch experience here! We (2 of us) showed up at around 11:15 AM after the Missoula Half Marathon on a Sunday. We were able to be seated immediately at the bar (and a few small parties after us were sat right away). The bartender (who was also our server) was obviously busy but able to be kind and attentive to us. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my friend ordered the OP Breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast). We also shared the biscuit beignets (tiny biscuits with a caramel dipping sauce. Everything totally hit the spot after our run! My eggs benedict was perfect. I don't prefer breakfast potatoes, but I was able to substitute fries. They were crispy and well-seasoned. Ambience was cute. I was expecting an old-timey pub feel, but it was actually more industrial / farm-housey (more upscale than I expected). I'll stop by again if I'm ever back in Missoula! read more

Soooo impressed with this place! I had originally overlooked it due to prior reviews I had read, but my friend suggested it for brunch, so we went- and I am SO glad we did! The menu is amazing, the prices are absolutely phenomenal, and the quality of the food itself was exceptional. My friend had the brunch salad, which was ENORMOUS, and looked beautiful! I had the avocado toast, which was also a generous portion. The sourdough bread was delectable, and the toppings could not have been better. Lastly, we shared a trio of pancakes- cinnamon, strawberries and cream, and lemon blueberry. The pancakes themselves were the perfect consistency. My only slight complaint is that the lemon blueberry pancake was a bit too sweet- I think simply a drizzle of the lemon curd and blueberry sauce would have been plenty sweetness for me!
