This review is for a take-out. The service and ambiance were pleasant. The person who made the order was very helpful. The dishes we got were Doubles, Curry Shrimp, Oxtail, & Curry Goat. I would have to say the star of the three were definitely the Curry Goat. I found the goat to be flavorful, nicely spiced, and without gaminess. Which is very important, it was well tender. It however along with the curry shrimp was served over a white rice that felt a bit over done as it was very very soft. I am happy to say the shrimp were definitely not frozen but from fresh, they were a bit overdone by the time we were home but I can say perhaps it may have been from the long commute. I am very specific on the way I like my doubles and I found them to be good. I could always use more pepper and cucumber on mine haha, but it isn't for everyone. The oxtail were a good portion and actually had some meaty ones. Overall, I will return here for more curry goat, it was very tasty and they give great portions. read more

This place has been on my list for a while, and I'm glad that I was able to check it out. There's ample seating in the front which makes for a good sit-down meal; however, it is on the warmer side inside. There is a large variety of Caribbean and West-Indian food. It all smells and looks delicious, but there was only one thing on my mind. Doubles. I bought two, one plain and another with oxtail. For those who don't know, doubles are a kind of street food wrap filled with chickpeas, potatoes, and other veggies. My friend took the plain one. He inhaled it and was surprised that were was no meat. It's not surprising. The wraps are full of flavor and are filling, and at $2 it's an unbeatable price. The oxtail double was .50 cents more, but absolutely worth it. The meat was soft and tendered, and the juices that drip from the meat onto the roti make the last few bites even more savory. read more

I came across Tamarind Island's Insta page and it had me drooling so I knew I had to try it. Arriving on a Saturday afternoon, it was bustling and people were in and out. There are a few tables to eat at as well as a couple of seats by the window. I can't say I ever had Trinidadian food before, but the one thing I knew I had to get was the doubles with chickpeas, because that's what first pulled me in. It was fantastic. I'm not sure I ever had chickpeas so flavorful and yummy. The bread was light and pillowy. Also tried a roti with chicken curry. The roti itself was a large portion served along side a plate of chicken curry with some potato. Another wonderful delight. The chicken was tender and the flavors, just so good. I had to stop myself from ordering more, but I am looking forward to going back for more doubles and some other dishes to try. read more

Service was 5 stars. Ambiance was cool. It's basically a takeout spot with tables. It was clean and appeared well kept. I'll give the food a 3.5. The doubles were tasty. Jerk chicken lacked flavor, and the rice that comes with it was mushy, greasy and bland. The shrimp rice came with mini baby shrimp smothered in sauce--wasn't a fan of taste or presentation. Just being honest, I came here because of the Keith Lee Effect. I'm from out of town and a friend and I decided to stop by on the way to the airport. Upon walking in, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked. We joined in the short line and proceeded to order. My friend got the doubles and I got the curry shrimp and roti and we decided to split the tamarind wings. There was a bit of a wait for the roti but I didn't mind because that meant it was fresh. We decided to dine in and took a seat while we waited. The owner was very kind to us. He provided us paper plates to put our scraps on. He also made sure to greet everyone that entered. There was sufficient seating for handful of people if you wanted to dine in. If ever in the area, I'd definitely come back. I want to try more food on the menu. We ordered curry goat, red herring on a bake, bake and saltfish. The curry goat was the best i had out of a restaurant. The meat was tender with good flavor, nice gravy. All the other food was also very good and staff were friendly. read more

The shop is very small, and sort of run-down-looking, with only a few chairs and tables if you wanted to eat in. We got the egg ball, phlourie, and chicken doubles as appetizers. The texture on the egg ball was nice, the doubles were soggy but otherwise good and phlouries were so-so. For main course we had Jerk Chicken with Fried Rice and Regular Chicken with Fried Rice. The Jerk Chicken and Fried Rice were definetly the stars of the show, with quite a unique taste and flavor. The regular chicken on the other hand was shockingly bad and tasted like it had been reheated. The staff were quite friendly and let us know we just had to wait a little bit for the food to come in fresh. Honestly, this place can get 4 stars if you arent used to Trinidadian/Guyanese food, but since I am Indian, I am already used to the much more spicier versions of these foods. Not at all impressed. Food looked stale. Tasted very bland. No curry flavor on the potatoes at all and tasted like it was cooked with no salt - very bland. Tamarind wings were $1.00 each, and I'm still waiting for even a tinge of tamarind flavor (I did ask about that). It was so tasteless that I had to toss it all in the garbage. Money and time wasted. The 3 workers I saw all appeared very unhappy. The one who served me was OK, and I managed to get a slight smile out of her. I ordered roti and curry potato - no meat. With the 2 wing pieces (equal to one wing), it was over $15.00. Pricey. Even though it's close to my home, I will not be returning. The health department rating is pending. Hmmm ... Honest review, the shark sandwich was amazing just a little too wet for me, didn't enjoy anything else, we ordered curry chicken, pumpkin, boubles and roti, me don't like! Doubles taste so fresh. The tamarind sauce is sweet, and the pepper is actually spicy! The dhal puri is good, I realize I'm not a big fan of split pea, but the texture was amazing. The chicken curry was delicious, I just wish they gave more potato! Overall, great! read more

My family and I loved this place. The service / people who worked there were so welcoming and friendly and happy to answer questions as needed. I thought the oxtail curry was delicious, as was the tamarind wings and doubles. My family also loved those things and my mom loved the chicken curry. The food here was splendid. I got to try some amazing and freshly made roti to eat with my goat curry and shrimp curry. Both dishes were seasoned well. The doubles were also delicious and full of flavor. One thing that stood out and was really good and I want to eat if more often is the Guyanese Chinese fried rice. It is way better than regular fried rice. The staff is all wonderful and work hard at making this dishes from scratch. I definitely recommend this restaurant. I've been a regular at this restaurant because the food is usually great, but my experience over the weekend was disappointing. I ordered fried rice, and after a few hours, it had gone bad--which was both surprising and concerning. Wanting to give the restaurant some helpful feedback, I called to let them know, but instead of addressing my concerns professionally, the staff was rude and dismissive, giving me unnecessary attitude. Good food is one thing, but customer service and food safety are just as important. After this experience, I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon. I hope the management takes this kind of feedback seriously because loyal customers deserve better. read more

Great food! We had the chicken curry and shrimp curry, delicious. Nice looking place. Problem was that the menu prices the cashier told me afterwards was old So the $12 items were $3 more than the menu price. The cashier saw me looking at the menu for 5 minutes so when I ordered she did not bother to tell me the prices were 25% higher. Problem 2. I hit the wrong button on the Apple Pay scanner, and was told I could not get a refund till the next day. As I do not live near by She offered me another item from the menu as compensation but that's not what I wanted. So I left with a bad taste in my mouth though the food was yummy. read more

Don't sleep on this place! The service is dependent on who is helping you. The food though.. bomb! My friend and I ordered the doubles. I like mine a spicer but it was perfect for my friend. We tried the pumpkin (great), bhaji (tasty), chana, potatoes and chow mein. The pepper sauce was also great. I was hoping to get some mango pickle (achar) but they only sell it in a large bag. The star of the show was the roti. It was fresh and pillowy. They were unfortunately sold out of pholouries Can't wait to go back! We really liked it. Saw this place on social media an it wasn't too far from where we work so my colleague and I gave it a shot. We had the Double which was really delicious. So flavorful. We had the oxtails with casava an the oxtails were okay. We also had the jerk chicken and fried rice. The Jerk chicken was great. So tender and a nice flavor. Rice was decent. The large was a huge portion so we didn't eat most of the rice. We'll be back and try a couple of other things. read more

So I went here after viewing an food critic from Ig & being I live close by I decided to give them a try..........I did order a Roti with Curry Chicken, Pholourie , and a doubles........I would of gave this spot 4 stars but the doubles the doublesssssss the chick peas was so hard I had to throw it out (very upset that I wasted money) The curry chicken was alittle watery but it was flavorful my boyfriend did enjoy the tamarind wings he said it was cooked to perfection & seasoned well ........Atmosphere is clean, quiet & they do have dine in service so thats a plus........parking is alilttle hard to find since the location is on a boulevard so keep that in mind if u do decide to eat in! read more

Please forgive me, I am not from the islands and don't know what everything is called. THIS FOOD WAS GREAT. I had some fried dough balls with the most delicious sauce. I also ordered something called doubles which were phenomenal. Salt fish Bake (maybe) was heavenly.
