Tampico's has been a favorite for years and I love the salsa! In my opinion, it is the best in town!

The only good thing left here is the margaritas when made by the right person. I can tell you the last time we ate there the food was such poor quality. It was a complete waste of money. The service was absolutely horrible. We had to ask someone besides our waiter for things. They had someone else making the drinks that day besides the usual Bartender and they were watered down garbage. The place just keeps getting more run down. I'm not sure why anyone actually eats there anymore. They've lost my business for food. I may drop in for a to go margaritas if Mr S is making it. read more

Mid week dinner was on our mind, as we were already planning to visit the new Asian market, and we decided on Tampico as we had never dined there. This is a very big and spacious restaurant with plenty of parking, we were greeted and sat quickly and received our drinks, the chips and warm salsa was great, this was really a nice surprise, along with a very nice and upbeat server For the entrees, I had the any 4 choosing the enchiladas and tacos, I really liked the flavor of the sauce, and the tacos were good, the steak in the ranchero sauce was great, as the sauce highlighted the dish., you could taste the peppers and tomato in this. This place has been here since I was in high school which was 40 years ago! and that's impressive ....BUT.....it appears not a single thing has changed and the place needs a total renovation! There's chipped paint on the walls and it just looks old! The food was good. I had the spinach quesadillas and my son had tacos. The service was slow due to what appeared to be a staff shortage. I most likely will not return and it's a mystery how this place is still open with all the other Mexican restaurants nearby. read more

Ok Tampico's is one of my favorite Mexican places in town for take out. The portion sizes are great for the price. My personal favorite is the 3 chicken enchilada platter. It comes with rice and beans which are my favorite rice and beans in town. read more

Just go around the corner to several other spots * Especially La Hacienda or Hacienda Real * It's worth your time, effort, and money to not eat at Tampico's and drive another 1/2 mile. First time here and was impressed with the atmosphere and service. The food was tasty but my only complaint was that there wasn't enough food. I love a big, stuffed burrito as most of them are but the one here, not so much. It was about half the size of what I felt it should have been. It was the fajita chicken burrito and the menu stated it was "stuffed" with chicken and vegetables but stuffed was more of an understatement. I will return but no more burritos for me. Next time I'll just do fajitas where I can stuff them myself. read more

Absolutely horrible. The food came out completely burnt. It was so burnt you could smell it coming out of the kitchen. The lemonade tasted like water and the margarita was even worse. To top it off, they did NOTHING about it and then preceded to add gratuity to the ticket. It was alone (the only adult) with my young children. i don't write negative reviews normally but this was so bad that I couldn't not take the time to say something. They should be embarrassed. Tampico's has been my favorite mexican food my whole life. Granted the food at the original restaurants in Bayou Vista and Morgan City are slightly better, the food is still great at the Lafayette location. They have an outdoor area which is always a plus for me anywhere, but it faces west...which is a problem during the hot months because the sun sets in that direction. The margaritas are great too. These people described their nachos as a bed of nachos (must've been a thin ass bed they slept on bec I wouldn't sleep on that) with beans ,cheese ,jalapeño, choice of protein. Served with guacamole, sour cream, and poco de gallo BUT they don't tell you it is LITERALLY 12 single chips!!!! One piece of lettuce --like that was doing something. Crusty cheap ass cheese on each chip with two tiny shrimp and one jalapeño slice on them like it'sa mini taco. AND I DID NOT GET ANY BEANS THAT SOO CALLED WAS SUPPOSED TO COME WITH IT!!! It's 11.99 . I didn't care for the food and will not be a repeat customer. The enchilada sauce on the chicken enchiladas tasted like Campbell's Cream of Chicken with pulled rotisserie chicken as the meat. Some co-workers and I did lunch here while on a business trip. I liked the way the main dining room gave the impression of a patio environment with the high ceilings and the skylights. Chips came out right. They are not an extra charge as they are for many Mexican restaurants these days. I ordered the grilled fish tacos which came with a side of rice. They were good. The sauce was different from where I usually order fish tacos. Different tasting, but not bad. Service was great. Waiter was around and kept both the drinks and chips refilled without us having to ask. If I get back to Lafayette, I would be willing to eat here again for lunch. read more

Not only that but its not very clean, has dated decor that prob has not been updated since the 70s and I would really rather eat at Taco Bell than at this joint - and I do NOT like Taco Bell. The food here is like frozen Mexican TV dinners. It's just nasty! My drink was good but when I got to the bottom of my glass there was food stuck to the bottom. I wouldn't eat here again if someone paid me and they were giving the food away. Some of the tables are wobbly and my friends drink fail off the table. Everything feels covers in grease. Food was good, but the service was absolute garbage. We were seated shortly after the hostess decided to look up from her cell phone long enough to notice there were people standing there. About 10 minutes after us two more tables were sat, they both had their drinks and orders taken before I got up and went to the hostess to see if we even had a server. The food is okay... However the service needs a lot of work. The lady who owns(or manager) the place stands at the front register like she can't wait to see the next $10 come thru the door. She needs to walk around and see the empty glasses, the empty chip baskets, and the needs of the customers. The table next to us had to get their own refills. Food had good flavor. Service though was lacking- chips and salsa arrived late with a very mediocre apology. Part of the order was not delivered - server did not check with us for several minutes after the food was delivered by another person. When we said , we didn't get the ---the server said we should have told them sooner...how could I? You never came to check. I'm not accustomed to being corrected by my server for their error. No apology, server blamed the kitchen for not putting it on the tray. No offer of reduced bill or any type of incentive to say "We're sorry" .
