This is our second time here, and we have been waiting to get the warm thin crispy tortilla chips, which we were very pleased this hasn't changed. There are so many menu items you will have a difficult time choosing, I would say pick something you've never tried and go for it. The crawfish beignets were amazing, our first time trying, very light and the pico de gallo goes beautifully, as this compensate for the oil. We had the lunch specials which is a separate menu, and what a great choice, the crab enchiladas was creamy and with the lettuce and pico was a delicious bite, and the tuna bowl was spot on. Went here with my husband and his friends, and I totally loved the vibes, decor, and overall look of the restaurant--it really reminded me of restaurants in New York. Even from the parking lot, you can already smell the food. The whole area was filled with the smoky steak aroma, which instantly made me extra hungry. When you walk in, you can see them handmaking their own tortillas, and that alone got me really excited to try the food. We were seated in a separate room. It was a bit small, but it definitely gave off NYC vibes. The decorations were done so well--I couldn't stop complimenting the space. We arrived right in time for Happy Hour, where you can get a large margarita for the price of a small, which is a great deal. As soon as we sat down, they brought out tortillas and salsa like most Mexican restaurants--but these were surprisingly much better. I believe it's because of their fresh handmade tortillas. What we ordered: Superior Quesadillas - Nicely plated and came with sides (I forgot to take a picture so I don't remember exactly what they were). It was decent, but nothing really special. San Lucas Sizzling Fajitas - Came with skirt steak and shrimp. The shrimp was butterflied Texas-style and served with all the usual sides. The meat was good, but I didn't like the vegetables. They were too soft and lacked that grilled, charred flavor. The pan was extremely hot, so the vegetables ended up burning and sticking to it instead. Service: Honestly, I didn't like the service. The server was okay, but definitely not great. I usually love Mexican restaurants because of their warm, friendly staff, but this experience made me uncomfortable. We felt rushed the entire time--she kept taking our plates and drinks before we were finished, and I had to ask for them back multiple times (not just once). What really killed the mood was the shots. Even though we felt rushed, every time we ordered shots it took forever to arrive. We waited almost 20 minutes total for just two rounds of shots, which is ridiculous for something so simple. I understand it was busy, but many busy restaurants still don't make customers wait that long. It really ruined the vibe for us. Final thoughts: The bill was pricey, and I knew that going in--but I had high expectations and left totally disappointed. The food was just decent, yet very overpriced. For the same amount of money, you could go to another Mexican restaurant or even a food truck and get a full feast. I rarely complain about service--especially since I used to be a server--but this time I couldn't overlook it. The prices are double of all other local Mexican restaurants, but the food is equivalent in portions. The crabmeat seafood enchiladas were fishy and the $50 ribeye fajitas had no seasoning. Quite possibly the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my life. Went on Memorial Day weekend, the place was super crowded, busy, so I thought the food would be great ...boy was I wrong. The rice and beans were awful. How do you mess up the rice and beans? Maybe the main chef was out of town or something but this place was not worth it at all. I got the Superior Platter. The only thing I ate was the taco, even though the shell was stale. The rest I took three bites of my food. The chicken looked like it was straight out of a can, the fajita steak tasted like barbecue? which I was not expecting that flavor. Just a mess. The way the waiter didn't care lol just took my plate away.. didn't even offer to say, "Oh, did you not like it? Can I get you something else?" He must be used to it, I guess. Today my wife and I went to Superior Grill Lafayette for lunch. We both ordered a meal from the lunch specials menu. When the server brought our meal to our table it was the dinner portion and not the lunch portion and we both knew it immediately and told the server ot wasn't correct. He apologized and said not to worry it would be taken care of and that we would just pay the lunch price. We started eating and after 3 or 4 minutes into the meal, the server came to the table and told us his manager said he needed to take the meals to the kitchen. We were very embarrassed and asked why and asked to speak to a manager. A short while later a manager came and said he would not replace the meals with the lunch portion but could box the food to go and we would need to pay the dinner portion we had been given. We were still upset and embarrassed by this entire situation and got up and left the restaurant. Needless to say we WILL NEVER go the Superior Grill again. read more

The restaurant was half empty. The bar was crowded. However, we were seated at a table in the bar. A young man brought us a glass of water 40 minutes later what looked like a manager walked up to our table and asked us if we had been served or someone taking our order and we said no and he said I'll go find someone at that point we almost walked out, but we waited approximately five more minutes and a young lady came and took our drink order we drank I drink and got out of there as fast as we can. This is the third time that I have been to this restaurant in Lafayette and the surface has been terrible. I don't understand why customer service is not important and why when the manager saw that we were seated there why didn't he take our drink order and get us a drink customer service is everything and like I said there was no one waiting for a table half of the restaurant was empty, but the bar was crowded. What a beautiful restaurant! The decorations and ambience remind me a lot of Pappasito's in Texas with a Louisiana touch. They've, clearly, spared no expense when it comes to the construction of this tremendous building. However, I wish they would've spent more time on their food. The salsa is excellent. I really enjoyed the Superior White Cheese Queso w/Beef too. But the entrees didn't live up to our expectations. The "Grande" Chicken Quesadilla (7 pieces) was dry and under flavored. Mesquite grilled chicken isn't good in Mexican food. The chicken should be shredded and slow cooked in tomatoes, onions, and chiles. It all seems to be white meat chicken too, which just makes it dry out easier. It was not as good as most quesadillas I could get in town for less money. The beef enchilada was good. I like the freshness of the sauce that was on top. The chicken enchilada suffered from the same, strange, mesquite taste. The cheese enchilada was fine but didn't have any of the chile con carne I expected, since it comes that way if you order just the cheese enchiladas. The beans were the blandest, refried (?) beans I've ever tried. A true fail on the beans. I saw a lady next to me return her tortilla soup too. Her friend mentioned she didn't care for her steak fajitas. I didn't taste either, so I can't comment. The service was excellent, particularly, for a new restaurant. Our bartender was very nice. I am going to try Superior again for brunch. I may go from time to time because I enjoy the ambience. But I will probably stick to brunch or appetizers because the Tex Mex items just didn't do it for me. read more

I've been to every Superior grill. I have to say I know this one is new but the design and layout is great. We went in the other day and had lunch and our experience was great. Emily was the bartender and she knew her job. She recommended items and told us about different tequilas and sold us on one. We were not planing on ordering tequila but yet we did. She had recommendations for lunch and even told us of the impending happy hour so we could take advantage of a great margarita. The food was great but Emily made our experience even better. My friend and I decided to try this place and were lucky to get 2 seats at the inside bar on a Saturday. The place was packed, so naturally it was loud. The 2 bartenders that served/helped us were AWESOME (Megan and Davin). We had a couple of their famous house margaritas and chips and salsa. I loved the thin chips! Unfortunately I couldn't try more food because I'm a vegetarian and their sauces have meat bases, the beans have bacon and the rice has chicken broth. I just didn't feel like a quesadilla. They have veggie fajitas but I couldn't have the rice and beans that came with it so it's just veggies, tortillas and cheese. I was grateful that Megan and Davin were super knowledgeable on the menu and made sure to double check if they didn't know what was in something. As a person who has never eaten meat, I appreciated that effort. I'll definitely be back for Margs and chips/salsa and the service! I do wish they had more vegetarian options as meals but maybe someday! read more

This was our first time at the Lafayette location, we had eaten at the Shreveport restaurant a couple of times, Lafayette did not disappoint us today. The restaurant is beautiful, comfortable and the crisp white linen always enhance the meal. The staff welcomed us and our waiter was great. We started with a cool margarita on the rocks, perfect. The salsa and the Guacamole was absolutely delicious with the light thin chips. I had the beef Taco and Enchilada dinner, amazing, the taco stayed crispy to the last bite and the sauce on the Enchilada was delicious, the beans were perfect, I like the texture of the beans. My husband started with Tortilla Soup, a cupful of delicious and then the Chicken Fajita dinner. He enjoyed it, the chicken was tender, seasoned well and the salsa was delicious. I can't believe this place has three stars. This is probably the best Mexican I've had in ages. I was in Lafayette for business last week and we stopped in. Got the steak fajitas. The food was a huge disappointment especially for the price. No flavor or seasoning. Clearly the food was microwaved based on the speed at which our food came out despite the crowds, the inconsistency in temperature of food on the plate, and the texture of the food. For a fish and "shrimp" dinner, I had 1 shrimp cut in half to look like more and it still had the shell on it. The restaurant was loud and hard to hear even for being at a 2 top with no live music. Ok first service was good to fine with our server. no issues there. The restaurant is a little congested. Lots of people. First let me start with the Shrimp. Who grills shrimp for fajitas with the skin on and butterflied. The shrimp was incredibly dried out from being chargrilled while butterflied, and did not peel well. There's two ways you can make sure that the shrimp doesn't dry out. You could 1 not butterfly it and 2 fry it with some oil instead of chargrilled. I didn't realize the skin was on either till I tried to take a bite, because I have never had butterflied shrimp with the skin on. I don't mind peeling shrimp if I order boiled shrimp... I mind peeling shrimp when I order Fajitas. The steak was sliced way too thick for Fajitas almost an inch across by 3 inches. It was tough and stringy because the fat wasn't rendered correctly. If you cooking it as a single steak and then slicing after cooking you need to make sure you render all the fat on it so the customer isn't just getting a mouth full of undercooked fat. Next for fajitas the steak needs to be thinly sliced. I would normally not review places but when you're charging so much for TexMex, it should be the best in Lafayette. Chili's has better Fajitas.
