Delicious Indian food! Brought my family here on the way back from Camelback and we loved every dish. Had the Manchurian chicken and the shrimp koliwada for appetizers, both were fantastic. The shrimp probably had the most fragrant seasoning I ever tasted and the shrimps themselves, though deep-fried, were still plump and juicy, cooked perfectly. My wife loved their fish tikka (salmon) and the chicken biryani was solid too and came with tasty raita on the side. They also had Indian pickles, a favorite of mine that surprisingly not many Indian restaurants have on their menu. As an added bonus, the dining room is inside a train car, which my son had a lot of fun with. Service was great , very attentive and prompt. Have been coming to this place for YEARS!! I will never get over the fact that they separated the rice from the entrees so you need to order rice separately otherwise you're only getting protein. Other things have changed over the years as well - like Puppadum used to be complimentary but is now considered a menu item. We came here after high school graduation to celebrate. We were seated in one of the banquet rooms which was a nice change from sitting in the train. We all got our dishes and shared 3 sides of rice (party of 6). My little one got tikka kabob (not pictured). Half of our party enjoyed the spicy options like chili cheese naan, and Indian spicy curry. I tried something new and learned the lamb kadhai has quite the kick, I wasn't expecting bc I wasn't asked for the heat level. The tikka masala and chicken curry were delicious. My kids love the mango lassi & must have thought they were bottomless they way they kept them coming lol. We each received a complimentary gulab jamun at the end of our dinner. The only critique I have is that the rice comes separately from the main dish and as an extra expense. Aside from that. The atmosphere and locale is unique and functional, spacious and inviting. The restaurant encompasses a bar, multiple dining areas, room enough for social events and gatherings and the inclusion of a boxcar that set out on the old railroad many decades ago. Very nice lunch here! The buffet is really affordable and well stocked. Service was very friendly and fresh naan was brought directly to the table. The buffet had a good variety of vegetarian and chicken options, though for other proteins the a la carte menu may be a better option. I loved the Shahi paneer especially, and the fruit custard at the end of the meal. It's also just a cool place. The interior is dressed up like a train car, and it really feels that way inside! We are locals and have seen a steady decline in good restaurants to go to for a night out. Restaurants come and go but Tandoor Palace has NEVER let us down. We are greeted with a friendly greeter and it's like visiting an old friend. We sit in our favorite Train Car and enjoy the smells coming out of the kitchen. What to eat? Everything is delicious. We love to try new things and our waiters always give us suggestions and experiences "from home". The serving sizes are generous and prices are fair, enough food to take home for lunch the next day. Food is served sizzling hot. I love spicy, they gladly accommodate with side sauces and the challenge is on! Love all the breads, soups, fish, shrimp appetizers. Lamb Chops are to die for, spiced to perfection. We go back at least twice a week. Never ordering the same food twice. Came to dine in this retrofitted train car during my stay at the Great Wolf Lodge. My man is a fan of Indian food and wanted to try this restaurant out. He did all the ordering and I sampled his choices. We had chicken pakora as an appetizer. It was nicely fried, but was so bland I could only taste the lemon they used to clean it. We had curry goat, butter chicken, basmati rice, and garlic naan. All the items came separate. I thought the price was a bit high for the portion, good thing I wasn't too hungry and was just sampling. The fat in my curry goat was a bit rubbery; at least it had a nice spice to it. The butter chicken had an overpowering taste of tomato for me. It was my first time trying basmati rice, the grain is very long. The garlic naan was a winner for me; it was perfectly toasted and seasoned well with real pieces of garlic. This is one of the very few times I didn't order a drink. The drink menu was dirty and outdated. It looked like an encyclopedia list of drinks, it made my brain hurt looking at it, so I skipped. We occupied a small portion of this spot, it has a large capacity with different rooms. If I had my phone I would have took more photos of the decor. It's a very unique spot with good service. My family and I decided to do an overnight at Camelback Resort and one of my first thoughts was that there would be a poor selection in food choices. I was so excited as we approached our destination to see signs for Tandoor Palace! I was not the one who picked up the food, but my sister in law said the place was really cute, and that the kids would have had a good time there. I got the chili paneer, butter chicken and garlic naan & rice. The chili paneer was perfection, the chicken in the butter chicken dish was cut slightly smaller than I would have normally liked but it worked out because we were low on utensils. The naan was still perfect temperature by the time it arrived to the hotel, and the rice was standard. I come from a part of NJ where you can find the best Indian food and I was happy to find that the food here stood up pretty well to my favorite place in NJ. The only real con was the pricing. None of our dishes came with rice which is pretty standard over here, especially when it's a saucier dish at a $16-$19 price point. I was just grateful to have such an amazing option so close to where we were staying, and I wonder if that's the reason for the price, or maybe it is because Indian food is harder to come by (not sure if there are any other Indian restaurants in the area). Either way, having complimentary rice would go a long way and offset the sticker shock a bit. read more

Worst Indian restaurant ever, we came into the restaurant and there was a guy and a woman, not greeting at all and didn't even talk to us for 5 min. Then they told us to wait 10 minutes but it really been 15. They straight up forgot about us in the front until we ask them again. When we got seated the guy didn't even give a F about his job cause the tip was mandatory. These people gave us dirty ass looks and no help or anything after ordering. My friend asked for some sugar when ordering for the ice tea cause it's not sweet and they didn't give us the sugar. That's not all, no napkins, dirty cups and plates, forks and crumbs on the floor, no service at all. No refills on water, keep requesting for some help and just get ignored. This place is not good. The food, on a scale of 1-10 was probably 4. I have eaten Indian food all over the US, India, and the UK and this left a lot to be desired. The tandoor mixed grill was pretty tasty but our other dishes (Paneer Malai Kofta and Butter Chicken) were not good... at all! Most people were ordering tandoor dishes, as if if you are in-the-know, you know that's the thing to get. The restaurant itself is outdated, and suffering from an identity crisis with whatever it was before and what it's trying to be now. When you arrive, you are faced with two restaurant signs that added confusion about where to go to enter. Like, take down the sign of the previous restaurant! The restaurant was dirty. The bathrooms were disgusting. The white table cloths (on the sides that draped down that were not protected by glass) had red sauce stains as if they were used as napkins by the previous guests. There was heavy dust covering the luggage racks above the tables (you dine in an old rail car) and on the light fixtures. Some of the wait staff seemed to on the ball, while others walked around like the three stooges unclear about what to do. Our water glasses sat mostly empty. We had to repeatedly ask for more water. We had to ask multiple times to place an order. We had to ask for plates. We had to ask 3 times for our bill. We had to ask for everything, over and over. Our food came out staggered. One dish came out then by the time that was cold, another dish came out. It was 12-15 minutes between our entrees. When I finally asked when I was going to get mine, they brought it right out, but the sauce was skimmed over and it was room temperature. It's as if they forgot about it. Finally, the cherry on top was an older gentleman (who I presume was the owner) came out to bus a table next to us. His cologne was SO STRONG it filled up the entire train car we were sitting in. I mean, it wasn't a bad smell, but not the smell you want to smell while trying to enjoy dinner. It was overpowering. I thought it was a given that people in food service (or any kind of customer service) shouldn't wear heavy cologne or perfume. Oh boy was it strong. I will say, they were packed. Good for them. I'm a fan of Indian cuisine. And we wanted to try a place near great wolf lodge. It was 6 minutes from the lodge. We order a few things. Goat curry, butter chicken, chicken pakora, and garlic naan. The rice does not come with the meal. Has to be order separate. I liked the food. The waiter kind and professional. He asked how spicy we wanted the food I chose, spicey for the goat even tho I usually get really spicy. And for the butter chicken, I chose no spice. The flavors were on point on both the goat curry and the butter chicken. The goat was a bit tough, but not enough for me to complain. The butter chicken was good as well. The sauce base for the butter chicken was a bit prevalent on the tomato, but again, I ate it all. The chicken pakora was lightly seasoned, crispy, and fried fresh. The garlic Naan was light and airy and seasoned well. Makes a good dip for the curry goat and the butter chicken we had. The restaurant started off a bit quiet and empty but gradually got busy. The restaurant is pretty big. There are plenty of places to sit. The ambiance was nice where we sat. It was inside an old style railroad train. I would visit again and perhaps try the sizzling plate that we noticed a few people ordered. I always like a meal that's piping hot and steaming. Makes for a great photo and video! We stopped by earlier today, we got the lunch buffet which included my favorite chicken tikka masala. The naans were hot and fresh but only given one at a time. Considering family of 4 we had to constantly wait for someone to bring it to us. For the price and location its in ( literally empty) the prices were so/so . The food is not it for me. Very generic to what Indian food should be. Also the decor and ambiance just wasn't present . Very old interior. Did I mention that the chef's, owner's and wait staff are able to manage this incredible food, fantastic service, and comfortable and warm surroundings all while operating out of an old train car? The main kitchen and another dining room are set in a building that is attached, but this train car hosts (if I had to guess) probably 50 seats for the restaurant. We have now eaten at Tandoor at least a dozen times and I have never had an experience there that was less than great. The staff is warm and knowledgeable, the owner addresses all of the tables and genuinely cares about how your stay was (so much so that at our request he showed us their tandoor oven), and the food is always top notch. We have gone for the lunch buffet a few times and we have gone and ordered a la carte from the dinner menu other times and there is never a complaint. We have become a bit more adventurous over the last few months and have begun ordering many different dishes. The Lamb Biryani here is quite possibly the best slow cooked rice containing dish I've ever eaten. The Shrimp Vindaloo had quite a spicy punch behind it, but the flavors they are able to inject into the sauce is truly astonishing. It feels as though with each time you chew there is another flavor that comes to the forefront of the dish. These are not basic cooking techniques and an easy feat, these are talented chefs showcasing their many years of experience and their love for their heritage through food. read more

When I went here I got the lamb vindaloo which was okay; the goat biriyani was flavorful and the meat was tender; the tandoori shrimp was my favorite thing on the menu, it was perfectly cooked; and their chili paneer was also well prepared. I have been eager to write this review since my community organization ordered from this lovely restaurant in August, when we were in the Poconos for a retreat. We made a large order for our first night, which was a Friday. The incredibly kind and generous manager, Sam Shah, chatted with me over the phone, giving me advice on menu items to accommodate all off the dietary restrictions of the retreat participants (i.e. kosher and/or vegetarian or vegan and/or dairy-free). Then, he personally drove the food over to our Airbnb, ensuring that it arrived nice and hot. We ordered medium sized trays of the Veggie Manchurian, Jeera rice, Hakka Noodles and Chana Masala, and the 20 people on this trip ate up every bite of each dish! They even saved the remaining sauces from the trays so they could enjoy the sauces over their eggs/salads the next morning! In the two months since, we have searched for places in NYC that serve Jeera rice (rice with cumin seeds tastes incredible!) and have been wanting to find another place that makes Indian and Chinese food like Tandoor Palace. Retreat participants discussed making future trips to the Poconos in order to eat at Tandoor Palace in person, or order from the restaurant again. What a serendipitous find! We stumbled upon this place road tripping to NYC, and this was right off the freeway so we impulsively went in for lunch. We found out they were having a lunch buffet (21.99 pax on weekends, $15.99 on weekdays) and the selection was delicious! Pretty sure we were scarfing down plate after plate and the naan was so airy and crispy. Service was great and our glasses were never empty. WARNING: DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I would give it a 0 star if that were an option. This is going to be a long review with complete disclosure. We went to this place on a Saturday afternoon. We entered and we kept waiting for someone to escort us. We heard two servers fighting with each other as to who will serve in "train" are or the "other" area. We finally went to a six seater and the AC was directly blowing air on those seats so we asked if they could increase the temperature or change to a different mode and they refused. They then suggested we go to other end, we did that, but that seating area had the exact same issue. The fun begins. We ordered 4 masala teas, mixed veg platter, samosa chaat and chilli paneer to begin with. One of us tried to repeat the order and the server told us "haan pata hai" rudely which means "I know", he simply shut us up. While we were waiting for all this - we also ordered - paneer pasanda, sabzi makhani, cheese chilli garlic naan, garlic naan, chilli garlic naan. The tea arrived, it was lukewarm, we called the server and he took them back. He returned to us with the same cups and MICROWAVED TEAS. And the cups were all mixed up (I got someone else's cup). We were all shook by this. The platter was okay. We asked for the samosa chaat and chilli paneer, and the same server told us that we didn't order it. We lost all our patience at this moment and said "Fine". We received our meal, the quantity of the curries was too less, not even an average size bowl. The naans tasted okay. They have a 15% gratuity policy on a party of 5 or more. The dishes are highly priced, quantity is less, staff is ridiculous and service is pathetic. Do not go here. I am writing such long review so you don't waste your money and time. If you are in the area and want to eat good Indian food, you can probably visit "Spice Route", its a great place. read more

We travel to the Pocono Pines area semi-frequently and this place is one of our favorites we stop by every time we are in town. I'm not too knowledgeable about Indian Cuisine but I know this place tastes great. (We always come during dinner time so I can't really make comments about the lunch). The service is always prompt but sometimes can be difficult to get the check when they're busy or not. Ambience - inside of an old train car, the seating provides a unique setting that feels comfortable and cozy. I very much stumbled upon this place with my friends by accident while we were on a road trip from Ohio to NYC. It was off the freeway kind of in the middle of nowhere but we saw it had good reviews on google and when we arrived and saw everything was served in a train car we thought that was pretty fun! The service wasn't really anything particularly special but I will give this place 5 stars for the taste of the tikka masala alone - OMG IT WAS SO GOOD!! It wasn't a huge portion but it wasn't terribly expensive either so we bought some naan and a couple other dishes and we left full. The train car was surprisingly nice inside; I wouldn't jump to this place for an anniversary dinner or anything but it was reasonably upscale when seated in the dining hall by the windows. I doubt I'll ever go back because I never go to Pennsylvania otherwise but if you're passing through, I would highly recommend checking this place out. :) read more
