If you are making an appointment for a special occasion, double, triple check that they have your appointment in their system! Or better yet, go somewhere else. I broke my arm the week before Christmas, making it impossible for me to blow dry/style my hair. On 12/23, realizing I would need professional help with my hair, and needing to work around my husband's and in-law's schedules, I scheduled two blowout appointments for 12/24; one for the morning at a DIFFERENT salon, and one appointment in the afternoon with Tangerine (they had no availability in the morning). I would decide which appointment would work better with my family's schedule first thing 12/24. After realizing I would need to use the morning appointment at the other salon, I called Tangerine Salon to cancel my afternoon appointment. They asked if there was any other time that would work for me, and I told them I needed a morning appointment. They said they had an availability at 10:00, the same time my appointment was scheduled for at the other salon. I decided to take the Tangerine appointment as it was closer to my home and I needed a last-minute stocking stuffer from Origins. I headed over their way, and while on my way to Tangerine, called and canceled my appointment at the other salon. After arriving at Tangerine, they told me they'd made a mistake, that the appointment I'd made on 12/23 had never entered their system, and they actually didn't have a 10:00 blowout appointment available. I didn't understand, as they'd told me 15 minutes earlier they had an appointment available for 10:00. After telling them I'd canceled my other appointment and physically couldn't style my hair, I was told this wasn't their problem, that their system had malfunctioned. I was left with no hair appointment at 10:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve. I guess the silver lining for me was that I ended up needed a morning appointment; my afternoon appointment (that never entered their system) with Tangerine was scheduled for 1:30 - imagine if I'd showed up, planned to get my hair done and head straight to 3:00 mass, only to learn my appointment wasn't in their system....and yes, I spoke with a live person, didn't book through an online reservation system...#Tangerinefail.... read more

Beware of Amanda!!!! I went to her for a platinum blonde partial highlight (the same thing I've been doing to my hair for almost twenty years)! Seemed pretty straight forward to me...I could not have been more wrong! She does the partial and the color comes out okay, a little more brassy than I am used to, but good enough. Then she recommends I use a clarifying shampoo because she thought my hair had a slight product buildup. What genius failed to mention was that that shampoo is also used to strip hair color out!!! It stripped all of my fresh highlights out and left an orange tone to my hair with my natural roots exposed. So, I go back to her and she decides to put an ash toner in my hair to ''cover up the orange''. Well, that left me with grayish-brown hair (about 5 shades darker than my natural dark blonde color)! I go back to her for a third time and she uses the clarifying shampoo to strip out the ash toner leaving me with orange hair once again. Furious and defeated I made an appointment at another salon and I am forced to get platinum highlights to cover the hideous color she left me thus causing so much damage to my hair. I spent so much time and money on this fiasco and all I got in return was an insincere apology from her and fried hair. I typically hold Aveda salons in pretty high regard, but this was the worst experience I have ever had anywhere!!!!! read more

Bill at Tangerine Salon Allen is a rare find, one which I was so fortunate to experience today. On a gloomy and cloudy February day, my life (and my hair) were transformed by this angelic being. His personality...intoxicating, his talent...pure mastery, his impact...world changing. Having my haircut by Bill was a true out-of-body experience. It was like watching for the first time, the most majestic and powerful wild animal interacting in its natural habitat. It was like watching an artist paint the most magnanimous original work of art. I imagined my experience was similar to that of people in the 1500's watching Michelangelo paint the ceiling of The Sistine Chapel. A fish is just a fish until you see the mandarinfish, a duck is just a duck until you see the mandarin duck. I submit to you that Bill at Tangerine Salon Allen is the mandarin-stylist. Unfortunately, I have to give a negative review. I was a repeat customer and just need some touch up to match my existing color. I booked the appointment with the same person for the second time. My hair stylist told me that my hair was too dark to get the color that I wanted (dark brown), and she will have to add some highlights on top of that, but, she said that's still "impossible" to get the same color as the one I have on me, on top of that, she told me that she doesn't have the time to do that neither. Basically, she is asking me to leave with very obvious attitude. All I need was a "touch-up", and the color that I have on me was even done by the Aveda's staff! I always knew about tangerine salon but always picked toni & guy over it. Now I have nooo idea what I was thinking!! I read the reviews on yelp about this place to see if it was any good because I didn't want anybody to mess up my hair. Tangerine was one of the best salon experiences I've had. The salon is really sleek and clean, and every one is the sweetest and offer you whatever you want. Moving on with my hair, the person I saw the most reviews on was Lauren Phillips. I decided to go get an appointment with her and she completely altered my hair!I love it so much! I had really REALLY bad roots and wanted to keep a dark base and she knew exactly what to do. Amanda at Tangerine is the stylist you must go to. Over a year ago I met her and she has been my stylist ever since! I've never trusted anyone with my hair the way I do her, she is very passionate, and very thorough with her work. I've only ever left feeling nothing less than glamorous after getting my hair done with her. I've had full highlights, ombre, and balayage done with Amanda and she's amazing. My hair looks so great that I am always asked where I get my hair done and all I can do is say "Amanda at Tangerine, she's amazing!!" Amanda takes her time, cares about your wants, and will have you leaving the salon with your desires fulfilled! She is so nice and great at her job only wanting the best for her clients! Amanda was amazing, I recommend her for sure!!!! I have been to Amanda 3 or 4 times and each time I have loved my hair when she was done. The first time I went to her I wanted a change. I wanted to cut five inches off my hair and completely change the color. I was very nervous but she made me feel comfortable and relaxed, and when she was done I absolutely loved it! I also recommend her if you just want a trim/ wash/ and blow-dry! The last two times I went in to see her just for that and she did an amazing job. Just with using a blow dryer she made my hair look like it was professionally done with a straightener. If I could only learn how to use the blow dryer/ brush the way she does then I wouldn't ever have to straightener again!!! read more

I had a hair appointment with Amy on Tuesday, and I can't say enough good things. I have naturally curly hair, and I have never left a hair appointment truly feeling confident about my hair. Prior to the appointment, I even cleared the rest of my day so I wouldn't have to go anywhere with a frizzy, funky haircut. However, right after my appointment with Amy, I booked a night out for the evening! I asked for a combo of Carrie Bradshaw and Julia Stiles, and I walked out feeling like a golden, sun-kissed love-child of Carrie Bradshaw and Julia Stiles. I love this salon and not only because they use Aveda products. The staff are who make it extra special. Kari is an amazing stylist with a keen knowledge on hair coloring. When my stylist left the salon, I was referred to Kari and I couldn't be happier. She is kind, energetic, and asks great questions to help me get what I want. At the front desk, there is Jane who seems to know every client by name which makes me feel extra special. The relaxation ritual options, free of charge, are an added perk if you are looking for a mini facial or hand massage or neck/shoulder massage to go along with your cut or color. I have lived in Dallas for 7 years, and up until now, have not found a great hair stylist. I used to fly to OC 3 times a year, to go to my gal there, because she was the only one I trusted with my hair. I just took a chance a few months ago, and called Tangerine. I ended up going to Kristen, and loved what she did to my hair on the first visit. This NEVER happens with me. I am extremely picky! Lauren Phillips at Tangerine Salon in Allen has been doing my hair for a long time and she is amazing! The first time I saw her my hair was fried from trying to do an "at home" straightening treatment... Lauren has nursed my hair back to life and it is amazing! My stylist Gulan has been doing my hair for years. I have followed her. I have never had a stylist understand my hair so well she puts herself in my shoes and wants me to have beautiful manageable hair everyday even when she is not there to style it for me. I absolutely love Tangerine Salon! I just do the protegee haircut and it turns out fantastic. I have a super short pixie cut and it is difficult for most to cut my hair and get it the way i envision it. Tangerine knows exactly what i want and executes!
