This was my first visit: Went to get highlights/low lights and a trim. When she finished, my hair had been stripped, was lifeless, and almost a third of it was broken off at the scalp. SHE couldn't even style it!!! She kept putting product after product on it, and she was visibly concerned. The sad thing was that when I called to make my first appt with Tangerine, I told them I needed an experienced stylist who was great with fine hair. No problem they said. So that's the kind of stylist I thought I was getting. Um no. After the damage was done, I asked her how long she had been with Tangerine (she was obviously inexperienced) and she said about 4 months. I will not be back. It's unfortunate too because I like Aveda products...but it is too much of a risk. You don't get what you think you are paying for. Beware. read more

As a first-time client today I had a great experience with Kari and can guarantee I will return! I called the salon in a state of emergency because my long dry damaged hair had turned green when I tried to box dye it. The receptionist was understanding and was able to give me several appointment options for the same day which I was not expecting but overjoyed to hear. I took the first available appointment which was with Kari who is a "master stylist" and in my opinion worth every penny. When I arrived at the salon, the girl at the desk showed me around, since it was my first time, and offered me a complimentary beverage which was nice. I changed into my color smock and took a seat in their lounge when Kari introduced yourself to me and took me over to her chair. Before I took my hair out of it's bun I explained to her what I had done to my hair, the condition that it was in, and what I was looking to accomplish today. After looking at my hair she gave me her professional recommendation and made sure I was comfortable with the color process and exactly how much we needs to cut off the ends. She working diligently the while time and I even received a free hand massage during my shampoo. She made sure to condition my hair twice with a damage repair and a dry repair. It's been bugging me for a while...since February 19th to be exact! First let me start by saying that Bill is technically very good at what he does. My hair cut and color was great...if it was what I wanted... Each time I have arrived at Tangerine, I am offered an option of a neck and shoulder massage, mini facial and some other nice little extras. Both times I've been there, I have opted for the neck and shoulder massage and at both appointments I did NOT receive the neck and shoulder massage. The last time I went to see Bill. I wanted to add lots of blond highlights and I was told that he didn't have time and was double booked and than next time I should request a full highlight and cut appointment....WHICH I DID!!! I even suggested perhaps we just do the cut and that I make an another appointment for when he had more time. He said no...we can work something out. We ended up doing reddish highlights with a few blond pieces as that was also an option, but not really what I wanted. I left the salon $280 poorer and not feeling great about my hair. Bill was nice enough to offer me to make another appointment (and more money) to add blond highlights, if I wish. I completely take responsibility for my part to play in this. I should have been more direct and not give in. I didn't even complain on the way out. What a wuss!!! I won't be going back. read more

Kristen T is a miracle worker! I came to her with my poorly colored hair and she gave me beautiful balayage that is now pinterest worthy. I love it! I also love the trim she gave me. I'm one of those people who gets nervous that a stylist will cut too much hair off but Kristen cut the perfect amount and I couldn't be more happy with how it looks. Kristen has colored and cut my hair twice now and I already have my next appointment with her booked! Two words MARY LE!!! I have tried different stylists... A LOT of different stylists and no one compares to Mary Le. Not only does she give you an amazing haircut but she also is so friendly and easy going that your time with her flies by. She spends a lot of time making sure your hair turns out exactly what you are looking for and never tries anything crazy without consenting with you first. I have been going to her for almost two years and have got my mom and sister hooked too! She recently joined Tangerine Salon which is a great combination of her amazing talent combined with a gorgeous salon. I have fine and thin hair and it's tricky to cut. Lauren does an amazing job finding styles that help my hair look thick and full. She has helped me go from long hair to short hair and always recommends styles that are on-trend but also flattering for me. She also recommends great Aveda products that keep my hair healthy. Tangerine Salon in Allen is in the gorgeous Waters Creek development. The salon is clean and sleek but not stuffy. I feel comfortable but pampered when I go to the salon. My favorite part of the service is the hot towel after the shampoo. So relaxing! read more

i was so disappointed. I had a wedding to go to and wanted to treat myself to a blow out. I normally go to The Dry Bar, but they were completely booked. I googled a good place to get a blow out and i was lead to Tangerine. I called, made an appointment and asked if they perform all types of blow outs on a regular basis. I was assured they did. From the minute I sat down with my stylist , Amanda, i could tell things were not going to go my way. She asked if i wanted curls with my blow out, and i said "Yes, lots of loose curls but my hair does not hold curls well". She assured me that that would not be a problem. I closed my eyes, relaxed and let my stylist do her job. About 20-30 mins later i open my eyes to Amanda looking VERY frustrated, and my hair looking like i blow dried it myself. All Amanda kept says was " your hair isn't holding the curls with the blow dryer, we can charge you more and use the curling iron". I told her The Dry Bar is always able to make my hair "cooperate" and did not have these problems. After an hour of Amanda not being able to make my hair "cooperate" i told her i need to go, i had a wedding to be at. All in all i paid $40, including tip, to get my hair dried and told my hair "just doesn't hold curls" read more

I have been visiting Noel for my haircuts and she is absolutely awesome! I have found in the past at other salons that the stylist is great on your first visit, but almost seems to lose interest after that. Noel has been consistently great, and has always given me a cut that I am really happy with, even though I'm not that good at explaining what I'd like done! She is also super nice, and lovely to chat with. The salon experience overall is one of the best I have found. I don't know why I waited so long to return to this salon! I've been salon hunting for about a year and a half. I had gone to Tangerine once about a year ago and had pretty good experience but this visit was even better. And this is despite my stylist running late. Sarah was awesome. I knew I wanted to try something a little different with my style and she really helped me to decide what would work best. Plus, she educated me about how to style my hair, so few of the past stylists have done that. This place is focused on customer service and keeping the clients relaxed. After a day of miscommunication, ice storms, and fried hair, I went to the tangerine salon to fix my catastrophe I called hair. Sarah had opened the store back up just for me so my hair could look presentable for a runway show I had the next day. I must say that they did an amazing job, and I would suggest everyone to go to this salon. I came in about a year ago for a cut and a color. My first complaint is the hairdresser cut my hair WAY too short. Also, they gave me face framing which I did NOT want, but by the time I could speak up about it they had already started cutting it. My hair has grown out very strange since then. Also I got highlights, but I didn't know the type they gave me was much more expensive than the normal ones. I ended up paying over 200 dollars and still tipped. Not that the stylist didn't know what they were doing, but it just wasn't what I wanted and not what I told them. I called the manager and they offered to compensate me somehow if I could provide receipt or proof of purchase since they couldn't locate me in their system. I have gotten a new credit card since then and haven't been able to locate the charge. I assume it's too late now to get a refund of some type. A good tip would be to make sure you tell he stylist EXACTLY what you want and what you don't want so you don't go through this. My hair has finally grown out, but I don't like how it's layered, and it's also a lot thinner than it used to be. read more

The haircut I received was excpetional- lovely layers that framed my face, made my hair look longer (even after the haircut), AND easy to maintain. WOW! It was a wonderful experience. From the friendly front desk receptionist to the amazing Bill Brooks. Bill is very good with color and highlights. He took his time to evaluate my hair texture and color before tackling my hair. The complimentary scalp massage was a bonus. He explained everything to me and he was very professional. I want to start off by saying that Sara Munoz is great and this review has nothing to do with her but sadly because of the front desk & their staff I will not be returning. I went to Tangerine looking for a new place to go. I called and made an appt for a Sat afternoon. When I got there they had no record of my appt. It turns out that when you call for an appt. You are calling into a call center and not the salon directly. They were able to accommodate me after waiting about 20 min and gave me a complimentary deep conditioning. They gave me a sample of a new product called Dry Remedy Oil. I loved the product and knew I wanted to buy it ($45 for 1oz.) On a separate occasion I drove to Allen from Plano and once I got there they were sold out. The lady in the front desk with the shoulder length brown hair asked me to write my name and number and she would call me as soon as more was delivered which would be very soon. I waited for almost two weeks for a call back. Finally today I called to ask if they had it in. I was disappointed to find out it was in, and the lady just didn't bother to call me and let me know. My problem is if you are saying you are going to do something do it. Especially in a customer business setting. How else do you expect to retain your customers. read more

Do not come here! I came as I just moved to the Dallas area and was in need of a new stylist and cut. My stylist seemed nice and I took care to thoroughly explain my standard routine and what I was looking for- really just a trim with some of my thickness taken out. She repeated back exactly what I stated, so I thought this will be good! I was so wrong. I ended up with a cut at least 4 inches shorter than what we agreed on and the layers added to the fullness instead of reducing it. I asked for my hair to be chest level- its now at my shoulders and looks like the "Monica" from friends- i.e. 1990!!! At least give me the Rachel if you are going to give me a 1990's haircut. I was so stunned, I didn't know what to say except, "Its short". I knew it looked bad when the front desk woman didn't say one thing nice about my cut, just offered me free product samples. Note to salon- worry less about hawking products and more on educating your stylists. I typically spend a ton at a salon in products and haircuts- however you will not get another dollar from me! If you come here and have a great stylist- I'm hoping you have a better experience that I. If you don't come here- I would not recommend it! I read the yelp reviews and that was why I tried it- sorely disappointed. Only come if your sister, mom, etc. can give you a review and you can see their hair. I called my husband crying and when he saw my hair, alll he could say was that it was light for summer... Its that bad. I will be in a ponytail until at least September. Now I see what the great reviews are about. Summer 2013: My first experience here was not so great. I paid $$$ for highlights and a cut from a master stylist. While it was obvious he was very good at what he did, the highlights came out way more subtle than what I'd asked for. I was very clear about what I'd wanted, and politely and diplomatically asked for the bolder highlights. He agreed to have me come back a weekday evening. I'd asked if that would give him enough time and he said yes. I returned, and as my head was in the sink, he informed me that I'd be going home with wet hair, and joked that I could just stick my head out the window like a dog. Not funny, and way rude. When I asked how I was going to see how the redone color came out if my hair isn't dry, he told me I could just call and come back (again??) if it wasn't. He tried to claim that he told me this up front, when I know for a fact he didn't and I'd asked specifically beforehand. He was in a big hurry to leave that evening, too. Turned out he did a great job, but I was very turned off by his attitude. I was more than friendly, constructive and tactful in asking for what I'd wanted and had also tipped him generously. My initial hairstyle / color I'd requested wasn't anything over the top, and at almost $300, I've every right to nicely ask for what I came here for. There was no good reason for acting miffed at this, or curtly sending me out with wet hair. Especially not at a salon like this- this isn't Super Cuts, for goodness sake. I wrote a review here describing this experience, and salon owner Brandon contacted me. Sending clients out with wet hair at any time is against salon policy, and he was genuinely concerned about making things right. My next appointment was complimentary and set up with Kim. October 2013: My experience with Kim was awesome. I am thrilled with how my hair came out. What a beautiful haircut, flows perfectly. Kim really listened and understood EX-ACT-LY what I wanted! I mean, to a T. This will be easy to style and will grow out nicely, and this layered cut works so well with my type of hair. The color looks amazing too- not only did that also come out exactly how I wanted, it exceeded my expectations. She truly is an artist and extremely talented. The shoulder and scalp massage that came with my visit was also such a treat. Even getting my hair washed was a blissful experience. The tea and chocolates they gave out was a nice touch, but what I'm most happy about is my hair. I can really say this is a great salon whose owner really cares about the clients' experience. Very disappointing. Called to make an appointment in advance. Showed up on time. Then was told that my stylist was running very late. I looked over and saw that she had just started with someone else (the customer literally sat down in her chair right after I walked in). Then the stylist claimed that it would only be a 10-15 minute wait. I have never seen any women's haircut/style take only 15 minutes and I was not about to be the fool that waited to see how long it would really take. I'm ok with a stylist running a few minutes late, but starting with someone else when my appointment was supposed to start is unacceptable. I spent 30 minutes in rush hour to get there on time. I expect a salon to be responsible with scheduling and respect my time. I won't be back. read more

Today I went in and they had it scheduled for an hour and a half later. This, after they'd even called yesterday to confirm my appointment. As I said, I love Bill. Tangerine salon is great! They give you a complimentary massage or any service of your choice every time you visit and offer you a drink of your choice during your haircut. I have never gotten my hair colored there but every time I get my hair cut I am happy with the end result. Erin Crawford is my go to hairstylist, she attends to your hair needs and is easy going and very adept at citing hair, I would recommend her. This salon provides a relaxing high end hair cut experience. Although it is a bit pricey, I would recommend if you are willing to splurge on a haircut, it's definitely worth it here. read more

I chose to have my hair done at this salon because of the positive reviews on Yelp. I was scheduled with Arin Akin and I could not have been more satisfied and pleased with my experience. Arin was very professional and sweet from the beginning to the end of my service and I am so happy with how she did my hair. My hair was in dire need of a fun new cut and color and Arin and exceeded my expectations 100%. I had my hair done by the same woman for 14 years and since I moved to DFW I was on the hunt for someone to do my hair the same way if not better and Arin did that for me. I am so glad I found her!
