I went here to get butterfly locs. The technician did an awesome job. I just didn't like it. I came in at my appointment time of 2:00. I had to wait only about five minutes for the tech to come get me. She washed and conditioned my hair, which I was not expecting, so that was nice. She was nice enough, but not a talker. The only things she said to me during my entire 2 1/2 hour visit was 'move over here', can you sit up?', 'dryer', and 'we're all done'. That was it. I guess it would have been nicer if she had spoken, but I had just started watching Squid Game and became engrossed in that. She was very gentle. I have very short, very thin hair. She loc'd it in such a way that it didn't pull my hair at all. She did a beautiful job, I just didn't think it looked good on me. Not taking anything away from her at all. In fact, I took it down and decided to try another style. I called them back to schedule for that, but their closest appointment was two weeks out. I work Monday through Thursday so it would have had to be Friday or the weekend. I thought this would be easier to schedule, but I was wrong. I don't plan getting my hair done that far in advance. I usually only schedule a couple days out, at the most. Since they couldn't accommodate me, I went elsewhere where they did an awesome job as well. If we could line up the time, I would go back. Everyone was friendly and professional. The lady who answered the phone was very nice, encouraging and informative. The salon was clean and free of clutter. Each tech worked on only one person at a time so no one was just sitting waiting. Everyone was using their inside voices, not being loud. They played good music that wasn't too loud, and wasn't vulgar or something you'd be embarrassed to listen to with your children or parents. I was greeted very courteously when I came through the front door. These people are very professional and you can tell they take pride in their business. That is truly refreshing to see. I will definitely be back at some point and I have recommended them to a few friends, so hopefully they get that business. Literally the only reason why I did not give them five stars is because one of the ladies who worked there kept walking past me looking at my hair all crazy. She then started to speak to the tech who was doing my hair, in another language. I could tell she was being messy by the way she kept laughing and pointing at my hair. That actually was kind of hurtful. I know I don't have the best hair, but I was there to try and look better. I have just come off of six years being in the hospital, culminating in a combined heart and liver transplant. So, my hair doesn't look that good. At least my tech seemed to sense that I understood what was going on and she didn't interact too much with Messy Mary. Maybe they had a hilarious conversation about me later. I brought my daughter in yesterday for her 1:00 PM appointment to get her hair washed, dried, flat ironed, and trimmed. We arrived five minutes early and checked in at the desk, but no one greeted us or even said hello. I believe the stylist's name was Tobey. She did a good job on my daughter's hair overall, but the customer service left a lot to be desired. She took extra time finishing up another client before starting, then worked on another person's hair in between doing my daughter's, and also took a break. I understand stylists are often busy and need breaks, which is fine, but a little communication would have gone a long way. As a paying customer who showed up on time, I expect to be acknowledged and kept in the loop. There were also small things that felt unprofessional. For example, I picked up a comb for her during the service and wasn't acknowledged. At the end, I said "thank you" twice and received no response--yet when my daughter said thank you, Tobey replied with "you're welcome." The end result on my daughter's hair was good, but the lack of basic courtesy and communication really stood out to me--especially when I'm paying $130 for the service. A simple hello, thank you, or acknowledgement makes a big difference in the overall experience. read more

My thin, fine, wiry curls have needed some love for a while now. I've been cutting my hair for years with most salon experiences consisting of my hair being brushed without water first, not diffusing, messing with curl pattern, etc. Tangle's & Locs was incredible, the woman I worked with was super kind, asked questions along the way about the haircut, and it was honestly the fastest haircut I've ever gotten, which is exactly what I wanted lol! I have been getting silk presses by Shy, she is amazing!! and ever since she left I have been back twice and both experiences have been awful. The results of the silk presses look like a blow out, there is lack of shine and the hair is so stiff. I wish that more effort is put into styling hair and proper trimming of dead ends. Shy would take her time and treat your hair with so much care. The customer service overall is okay, it's just a bit annoying that even when you arrive on time, they stylist tend to be working on others and taking turns on different clients. I purchased a 99-minute Swedish massage with Tobey from Groupon. She was very professional and she even lowered the temperature in her room because I was hot when I arrived. Her room was very clean and the music she used was relaxing. She is an excellent masseuse and focused on my pressure points as she was working on various parts of my body. She is the first masseuse that I have been to that did not talk to me through the whole massage. I get massages to relax and it is impossible to do that if someone is trying to carry on a conversation with you the entire time. I would definitely recommend Tobey to anyone who wants a good massage by someone who obviously cares about what she does. read more

If customer service, experience, honesty, and quality is important to you when looking for a salon then keep looking, because Tangles & Locs will highly disappoint you. I booked an appointment through StyleSeat for my 12 year old son to begin his starter loc journey. StyleSeat had the starter loc pricing at $120 (adult pricing). I booked and immediately reached out to Tangles & Locs to let them know that the service was for a child not an adult. We were called back and asked to come in for a consult. When we went in for his consult on 2/9/21 we were told by Lee that based on him being a kid and the style he wanted, the price would be $65 for the starter locs (which one person would do) and $25 for the fade and line up. Lee said I would book the fade and line up appointment through TheCut app with Kiwi for the same day the starter locs would be done. I let Lee and the front desk lady know that StyleSeat required me to put my card on file to book the appointment and asked if the price would be adjusted before my card was charge. I was informed that they would fix the pricing the day of the appointment when it was time to pay. My card was to be charged $65 for the locs and Kiwi required cash. So we locked in the appointment date for 2/11 for the locs and I had to book through TheCut app for my sons appointment with Kiwi. The price for the cut based on when I booked through the app was $15, not $25. Today we went in at our scheduled appointment time and they were unorganized from the beginning. They had no idea who was doing what with my sons hair first and asked if we'd be willing to come back at 1pm when the barber could cut my sons hair BEFORE he got the locs. I told her that we were told to book the haircut AFTER he got the locs and we were unable to come back. Finally, my son gets in the chair and they get started on the locs. Things were going well until it was time for him to go under the dryer. The guy put him under the dryer and left him the for 50 minutes (beyond when his hair was dry) while he moved on to his next customer!! I had no idea his part was done. He didn't ask if we liked the twist, didn't say thank you, not a word the entire time. Lee finally came over and said he could go for his cut and at that point it was time for me to pay for the starter locs service. I went to the front desk and was told to swipe my card for $65. I mentioned that my card info was on StyleSeat and she said they had a new system. I asked "are you sure? because I just got an email from StyleSeat about them charging my card for payment." I opened the email to see the full message and it was a receipt! they charged me $120 for the locs AND added a 20% tip!($24 and I am editing my review to update that I was able to remove the $24 tip, but I was still charged $120) Lee came over and said that she was unable to adjust the charges or refund me the amount that should not have been charged. She said she could give me a credit for the next visit, but said she didn't know how to give me a gift card for the difference. I asked her how I would remind her and she said mention it when I call for my sons maintenance appt. BS!!! how does a company not know how to refund or adjust their own pricing within their system? I receive no apology for their mistake! They had no empathy whatsoever. While I was dealing with the starter loc pricing mistake my son had waited 30 minutes beyond his scheduled appt time for his hair cut with no "hey I am sorry I will be with you soon." Nothing! the people in the shop are seriously so unprofessional it is unbelievable. My son gets in the chair for his side fade and line up. I am so beyond done with this place at this point that I tell Kiwi I am going to pay him and go to the car to wait for my son. He tells me my total is $30! this is double the price I booked for through the app and even more than the price Lee told me it would be during my sons' consult. I ended up giving him 2 20's and he did not ask if I wanted change just took the money and stuffed it away. When my son got in the car I lost it! His line up was oddly narrow and slightly off to the left. I told my son we were going back inside. An absolutely unacceptable outcome on top of them way overcharging me for the service. My son begged me not to go back inside so I left completely upset to the point of wanting to cry from the overall experience with Tangles & Locs. I also want to say that I am a tipper when it comes to services (nails, hair, food, coffee, etc.), even when the service received isn't the best, but Tangles & Locs took $80 more than what they should have in an unethical, dishonest way and made zero effort to make it right. I will be looking for a new shop to maintenance his locs, because Tangles & Locs will never have us as clients again. read more

To keep it extremely simple because I don't feel like writing an essay...I walked into the shop with an appt scheduled, was told I would be assisted soon and had to wait for over 45 minutes. After getting in the chair, the stylist was pulled away from me multiple times to assist other clients with their hair. The owner of the shop asked me how long my hair was, I showed her that it was down past my shoulders and she said okay. At the time I had faux locs in and hadn't taken them out before so I scheduled an appt so that a professional would be able to assist me. The owner decided to come assist with the take down and cut one of the faux locs extremely short. When she took it out, the stylist who was originally assisting me had an astonished look on her face and I wasn't sure why...until I looked up and realized my hair had been CUT! I was so sad and my feelings were absolutely hurt. The owner proceeded to be nonchalant and tell me that I should've came to her shop to get the faux locs done originally and essentially because I didn't it caused BREAKAGE to my hair. To say the least, none of the other locs came out that way and I addressed it with the owner and did not receive an apology. The owner proceeded to come back to try to assist with my hair after a break and I told her I would prefer she not assist as the other stylists who were helping were doing a good job so far. I ended up being at the shop from 2pm until 10:30pm that night. For it being a Black Owned Business I expected better. Mind you, it doesn't seem like the staff gets treated too politely either as they are being pulled away from their clients through and throughout the process of doing their clients hair. I'm not impressed with Tangles & Locs in Everett. My usual salon was booked so I decided to give T&L a try; my appointment was at 1pm, I showed up at 12:45pm. Was greeted right away, very friendly atmosphere. But then I literally sat there waiting for 45 mins before stylist came over and said she was gonna shampoo me next. No apology for the wait, nothing. Proceeded to sit another 20 mins before I was over it and left. Didn't cause a scene, just quietly walked out. I drove all the way home, walked in the door at 2:30pm and then got a phone call from T&L at 2:33pm saying "We're ready to shampoo you now but can't find you in the lobby." Y'ALL! 2:33PM! 1 hr and 33 min AFTER my appointment time! I said "Oh, uh I left cause I couldn't wait any longer." Her response was "Oh ok....do you want to reschedule?" Today was my first time at tangles and locs "Christina" did my retie, I have sista locs and when I say this sista is fast.... she did just what I needed and more she now has a client for life. The atmosphere is pleasant the environment is very clean the vibe is chill, and the staff is very friendly. The quality of service I received was on point and I am one happy lady, if you are in the Everett area or North Seattle and you have locs, or any other hair services you have got to give this place a try it is definitely worth it. read more

I've known the owner for years. Our kids grew up together so close that they still call each other family after 15 years. My daughter went there with confidence that she would walk out with what was asked for and that did not happen. 2.5 hours to bleach and 20 minutes of toner. Leigh herself the so called professional stylist/owner cut my daughters bands while standing at a angle from the the station next to where my daughter was sitting. Yep they are at a horrible slant and the rest of the cut is choppy to match the color. After 6 days Leigh got back to us and blamed my daughter for saying she liked it when in fact she did not and pointed out the flaws while there and was told it will darken once dried. We were reimbursed half of the $240 that was charged because of labor. What labor was done? I was told my email that was in detail of what happened was uncalled for. Leigh is a garage hairstylist and should stay there. No one should be under her supervision or taking her lack of knowledge as if it has substance. My daughter did not go back to "have it fixed" I wouldn't send my dog there for a cut. Loud, unprofessional, disrespectful and should be embarrassed by the quality and actions of the service. Not in any way stretched out and laying flat like they should. My son was so upset when he got home. Not to mention I scheduled for them to fade his hairline and they didn't do that either. So what did I pay for??? Not to mention a few of his twists are coming undone. I literally do a much better job myself. What a disappointment. My son has been coming here for over a year getting braids and cut. We have always been happy with our service here. The best thing is I brought my daughter for a consultation because I was really struggling with her hair. She is mixed- black white asian and Latina. Her hair went from ringlets as a baby to dry, brittle, and extremely poofy. Since bringing her in Lee gave us products to use, a trim with some layers, and advice on cowashing. It's been a few months now of doing this and I can see the ringlets coming back in her hair! Now on to me.. I have been trying to get my hair blonde without the warm tones. I learned about Tangles and locs through Groupon and I was impressed with their website. I purchased the seaweed wrap and massage. My first impression was finally a place that is diverse in Everett I have lived in Everett my entire life I now live in Seattle I enjoy the diversity that comes with Seattle and seeing a salon and spa which specializes in African-American hair care is refreshing. The seaweed wrap I was not as impressed with I feel like it wasn't hot enough for me to detox however Tobey is freaking amazing and her massage are magical she has strong hands and she knew all the places I needed massaged most without me even telling her my occupation. I will definitely be back for another massage with Tobey and will be scheduling my boyfriend a massage as well. It is easy to find, a convenient location next to restaurants. There is plenty of parking I love the ambiance the decoration and the music playing. I think it's a great idea to have a barber shop next to the salon. It was an important day for me and I needed to find a place that would flat iron my wavy hair. I wanted it straight that's all. I called tangles and locs a couple hours earlier, mostly expecting them to be too busy to take another appointment especially since it was same day but the lady on the phone said it was fine that I could come in for a flat iron at 3:30. That was perfect for me, so I get there a couple minutes early and I tell the lady at the front that I'm here for my appointment. The salon is extremely packed and everybody looked busy. So I was a bit confused on who was going to do my hair. The lady told me to have a seat and that someone would get me in a minute. I waited 30min for someone to do my hair. I wasn't making a fuss cause I knew they were all busy but come on, don't tell people they can come in at a certain time and have them wait so long. I had graduation that day so I was on a time crunch I did tell the lady who started doing my hair that I was in a rush and she accommodated that really good. I could tell she was very stressed out because she had more clients to take care of so I personally think it is the owners fault or the manager in charge of over scheduling, because it was really difficult to watch this poor girl rush to do my hair. Btw when she was drying my roots she almost burned me because of how fast she was going but I understood that she was rushing yk? it just really really hurt. So the service wasn't great but I was trying to keep a good attitude at least. Anyways she finishes my hair, again all she did was a quick wash, drying and flat iron. Over the phone they didn't mention to me how much the service was going to be but naturally a flat iron isn't too much so at most I was expecting about 40 dollars. Well it's was double that, the girl told me that the service was 85$ !! I was honestly shocked because damn. I was paying in cash and I barely had enough so she "did me a favor" and brought it down to 65$ which is still pretty crazy to me. I know businesses have brought their prices up because of covid and stuff but y'all just save ur money and do it at home.
