We had a pin hole leak which we caught early. Was referred to tanks-a-lot. From our initial call to tank replacement was maybe 4 days (including weekend too) . They were professional, very efficient and reasonable too. The guy who answered the phone ended up knowing my late Dad too. Overall, not a great experience. The first hurdle was trying to book a mutually beneficial time to do an oil tank removal. It was far more difficult than it should have been. We kept receiving day of requests to come by and do the removal. After the third or fourth time of asking for a specific time/ window, we were finally given one. They still showed up 20 minutes outside the window. When the workers arrived there was minimal communication and they went right to work. After they were done I inspected the area and it was a total mess. (Pictures attached) My basement door was damaged and stained with oil. My basement railing was now stained with oil. The basement floor was left covered in dirt and rock from underneath the tank. They only made an effort to clean up the oil they spilled. And not a great job either because there was still oil splatter on numerous personal things in the basement. Not to mention the water that was coming out of my brand-new heating system. I don't even know what happened there because they never said anything to me. Thankfully my heat still works. I gave them two stars because I'm sure cutting up an oil tank and removing it piece by piece is not an easy or clean process. But for paying $700 for a service, you'd think someone would watch the doors they were banging into or at least run a broom over the ground when you're done. read more

Our 40 yr old tank began to slowly drip. It was full of heating oil. Three guys came out, pumped out 260 gallons of our oil into a holding tank in their truck. Removed the old, rotted tank, installed a new one. Did all the pipe fitting, and then pumped our oil -- through a filter -- back into our new tank. They were clean, fast, and efficient. Where do we begin? We had an oil tank leak and had to have a new tank installed. Communication throughout the process was horrible and the owner is a rude grumpy old man. I kept my patience because I didn't want anything coming back on me but when you get contractors doing this type of work and leaving you with leaks of oil that we just dealt with, it is unacceptable with a family of two young children and a pet dog that have to smell this for months on end. They added a system called a tiger loop which I didn't authorize and it has been nothing but a nightmare. The worker stated they install them on all tanks regardless if we asked for it. It's to prevent air from getting in the lines if your oil gets too low. I know how to bleed my system so I don't worry about that. My heating system looked new until they touched it. They cut into the burner outer box that protects the burner system leaving it mangled with sharp edges and oil is leaking from every connection they made. Upon calling for the leak issues the owner would tell us we don't have a leak as if we were crazy. I literally cleaned up every connection to make sure, placed aluminum pans with white tissue and the next day they were pink with oil. I'm so tired of dealing w these people. They won't answer calls and I'm probably going the legal route at this point. They are not going to get away with the stress we have to deal with. I hope this review saves others and hurts their pockets as they did mine. Thousands of dollars and this is the quality of work you get. See the pics for yourself. Stay away from this company. I called on a monday and they were there by thursday to remove a very slowly leaking oil tank. they carefully laid out plastic on my hardwood floors to catch drips, and cut my tank down as the access to the basement was a tiny set of stairs, as the bulkhead was closed up by several owners previous. They also dealt with the caught dripped oil I had accumulated in a bucket, and drained the tank of the remaining oil, and removed it. Flat 495$ and they were in and out in about 80 minutes, with a call thursday morning to report their ETA, which was accurate to within 15 minutes. If I ever had a tank to deal with again, I'd give these guys a call. read more

I had several phone and message exchanges with J. Holmes at Tanks-A-Lot, but my last call with him was disappointing. When I tried to confirm the warranty details, he became rude and impatient, saying he'd explained it "four times" and questioning why I didn't understand. The issue was that he had mentioned three different versions of the warranty--3 years, 30 years, and lifetime for the first owner--so I asked if he could clarify by including the warranty details in writing in the contract. He told me to call another company instead. I haven't been one to leave reviews often, but this time I felt I had to. This is by far the worst contractor I've ever encountered. The prices change (oil tank removal and installation) every time I have a conversation with him, and when I reach out through text or email, it takes 3 to 4 attempts before I receive a short and unhelpful response. Moreover, they don't address the questions I ask; their response usually ends with just a 'k'. When I tried to clarify these issues until today--such as the exact quote (if it includes permit fee), tank model name/warranty and the removal/installation plan--he told me he couldn't be any clearer than he had been and suggested I look for another company. I had seen many reviews mentioning how rude this person was before, and it seems he hasn't changed. I would not recommend working with him. He might start with a low price, but it keeps changing, and communication is impossible. read more

Called Saturday morning and before noon on Monday the old tank was gone, fuel was transferred and we had a beautiful brand new fuel tank. They didn't show up, they didn't call. Called them up, I was told they screwed up. I appreciate the honesty, but that does not help me out. Told them to contact my wife to reschedule. They covered the floor where there was new carpet, brought their own vacuum, and ensured that nothing was damaged in the process. Tanks-a-lot removed our oil tank today. They did a great job. There was a team of three. I could tell they do this work all day. They immediately checked the tank, found a basement window to use to pump out the oil, removed the tank, removed the filler pipe and filled in the hole. The workers said they do six of these in day. Be careful with these guys if they have to remove the tank through your house! Our bulkhead was too small to remove the oil tank, so they went through our kitchen. They had assured us they would put down plastic so we didn't supervise. They left without saying goodbye, there were 3 very noticeable scratches on the kitchen floor, an oil mark on one counter edge, and they scraped the paint off the doorframe down to bare wood in two places. The owner did call us to apologize, and agreed not to charge us, because the cost of repair was higher than the bill. He's ethical, but be warned about the workers. Still, there are very few vendors that do this work. read more

Awful experience. Rescheduled 3 times, still didn't complete the job, damaged new flooring during removal instead of using bulkhead. Bait and switch on pricing. Absolutely abusive owner who yelled at the top of his lungs when politely followed up with - completely different than how he presented himself when originally booking or when repeatedly rescheduling. Wish there was a 6-star option because these guys are THAT good! I called Tanks-a-Lot on a holiday weekend due to a leaking fuel oil tank expecting to reach an answering service. Instead, the owner of the company picked up the phone himself. The price he quoted was 33% less than two other companies I called, and in less than 14 hours from the initial call, his awesome team had removed my old tank, replaced it with a brand new one, fixed the fill pipes leading into the tank, and thoroughly cleaned the entire area. In fact, they left it cleaner than when they found it! The crew of Jared, King & Sanny arrived exactly on time, and were as polite and efficient as if this was their own home. I switched to hydrosil heat about 10 years ago and had formerly used oil. Recently there was a terrible smell in the basement and I realized I had a leaky old tank (this is an old house). I started looking for companies who could remove the tank, while dealing with the leakage (kitty litter and paper towels every day!). Tanks a lot was the third company I called, recommended by the former Oil supply company in Waltham. The quote they gave me was 1/3 of the first quote, and half if the second quote. They came and did the job neatly, very considerate not to make a mess. They drained the tank and removed it. The other two companies were not even going to drain the tank, and planned charge those high prices for removal only - after I paid to have it drained! I called and talked with them on the phone. the gentleman I spoke with was really nice. he quoted me a price over the phone with guarantee. called a couple other places and they quoted 800.00 to 1000.00 dollars higher. called back and hired them. I was put in contact with this company through my plumbing company who was completing my oil to gas conversion. The man who called me on the phone was EXTREMELY rude. I had no idea what company was even calling me because he didn't say "This is so and so from Tanks a lot." I had to ask my plumbing company who it was so I was sure not to call them again when I took my business elsewhere. When he first called it was 8:30 AM (I was already on my way to work) he just expected me to be home at that minute for them to come remove my tank and he was annoyed when I told him I had to work. He wanted me to just leave my basement open all day and they would get there when they could. I told him I wasn't comfortable leaving my house unlocked or people being in there without someone being home. He called again the next day and I was unable to answer and he didn't leave a message, so I never called back. He called me again for the 3rd day in a row at 8:30 am, expecting me to just be home again. I told him I have to work. He said "well we all have to work." I had told him that I was unaware he would just be calling and showing up, I thought we would schedule an appointment. I had mentioned to him that he was rude on the phone the other day and I would be using a different company. He said "I wasn't rude. It's my deep voice. Females always think I'm being rude." HIRE THESE PEOPLE! Long story short; I had a leak in my oil tank that desperately needed to be replaced and it was discovered Friday night (the day after thanksgiving). I frantically called all of the companies in the area. Jay was one of 2 that actually called me back. He came out with one guy the following morning and replaced my tank. They did a great job and he charged me the normal going rate when most companies would have gouged me as I was desperate. Jay is a great guy and they do great work. My house is an older one built in '41. Needless to say, things need to be replaced. My furnace wouldn't stay running so Jay from J.J. Holmes told me my tank was old had junk in bottom and it needed to be replaced. The thought of replacing the tank was not something I wanted to do, but I knew it had to be done. Since the tank is in my basement, I knew this was not going to be pretty, but he came drained the tank, cut it up and installed a new one the same day. I wish the new tank was the same size as the old one but it was only slightly smaller. Since then, my furnace has been running fine. In the end, it was the right thing to do. I've had Jay as my oil provider and so far he's treated me fair. His service has been great and his prices are fair. I recommend Jay and Tanks-A lot. read more
