    Drunken Beef Noodle
    Paul C.

My coworker and I ventured south on I-65 to try Tao Asian. We love Thai food, and wanted to try somewhere different. I found Tao Asian on Yelp, and it is a short drive from our office. The restaurant is located in the Publix strip center that is just east of the Highway 52 exit. The restaurant is a pretty typical layout. It's a narrow dining room with a hostess stand at the entrance. There are tables on both sides, and the kitchen is located at the back. The restaurant is decorated nicely, and the carpet gives it some warmth. I especially liked the beautiful Asian wall paper. We both ordered from the lunch menu. It contains the standard list of Chinese and Thai dishes. My coworker ordered the Drunken Beef Noodle. It was a big portion that was garnished with a lime wedge and fresh cilantro. The dish had a nice flavor, and she enjoyed it very much. I ordered the Yellow Curry with chicken, and I thought it was very good. The curry is served in a covered dish and a separate bowl of white rice. The curry sauce was on point with it's flavorful blend of spices and coconut milk. The dish was not "Thai spicy", but had a delicate kick. Service was okay. The young lady who waited on us was efficient, but not very friendly.

Shrimp Spring Roll (1) I asked and it was said that it was a cold roll which was exactly what I wanted. It came hot low the others and due to the language barrier it couldn't be rectified so it was sent back. Maybe another time Egg Roll (1) the most delicious egg roll I've had in a long time. It was full of stuffing. Piping hot and flavorful as hell. The duck sauce which I usually don't eat made it even better. Bangkok Spring Roll (2) crispy deliciousness. They had two small shrimp inside of the roll. They were hot but also packed with flavor. I was stuffed when I left just off the rolls. Would definitely return. Glad I found this place near my apartment.

First time here and super pleased! The restaurant is small and we were the only ones in there at first, and despite that it seemed to take a while for someone to get our drink order. After that, things were fine. We ordered the crab Rangoon and veggie spring rolls to split and they were both served hot and crispy. The crab Rangoon was arguably the best I've ever had, with actual little pieces of crab, lots of cream cheese, and chopped green onion inside that gave them a great flavor. The veggie spring rolls were good, very large and full of veggies. I ordered my meal from the Thai Menu. The Panang Chicken was DELICIOUS! The portion was large and I had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. I'll definitely be back!!

Don't let the small front window fool you.

I was in the area and actually used Yelp to find this place. It's very easy to find, not far from I-65 and situated in a large strip mall between a exercise gym and Publix in Pelham. From the exterior, Tao Asian looks small and simple (see pictures), but when we entered, we were pleasantly surprised. The interior was nicely decorated with nice clean carpeted floors, laminated wood tables, and uniquely decorated lights. There was one large screen tv but no bar. My son and I were there at lunchtime on a Tuesday. It wasn't crowded, but our hostess was multi-tasking answering the phone and taking care of take out orders. Her dine-in patrons didn't suffer because she was more than attentive. We started with their Phuket Fried Calamari for an appetizer. It arrived quickly, was hot and served on a bed of lettuce. The calamari pieces (tentacles included) were lightly battered and deep fried. I found their calamari to be too chewy and probably could've been taken out of the fryer 30 seconds earlier. The sweet and sour sauce that accompanied the calamari was pretty good. My son ordered the Shrimp and Lobster sauce from the lunch menu. I ordered the Drunken Beef Noodle also off their lunch menu. The Shrimp and Lobster sauce arrived in a bowl! I have never seen that before. It was a novel idea as most lobster sauce is very "soupy" anyway. It tasted very good! It arrived hot with about 5 large and perfectly cooked shrimp mixed among the water chestnuts, peas and egg white. My son scooped out most of the lobster sauce onto his ball of fried rice and went to town. The fried rice was ok and his dish was complemented with an egg roll which also tasted ok but could've used more cabbage. My Drunken Beef Noodle was also hot (I despise cold food) when it arrived. I was pleasantly surprised at the portion size. If this was a lunch portion, I would imagine the dinner version would be pretty big. There were ample slices of beef which were marinated and cooked perfectly. It was stir fried with wide flat rice noodles in a delicious brown sauce. The slices of carrots and cabbage completed the dish. After I squeezed the lime into the dish, it tasted even better. I thought this was going to be another typical asian take out/dine-in, but I was pleasantly surprised. From their comfortable decorations to the taste of the food, this is one of those "special" hole in the wall type places that you will fall back on for good affordable dining.

I ordered chicken lo mein and sesame chicken for pick up from Tao Asian and I am very satisfied. I didn't have to wait long to get my food, it has good portions, and a reasonable price. Not to mention it's delicious. All in all, a very good experience

Solid food. Slipped by for lunch and it was great. The service was good and the food had a lot of flavor and was cooked perfectly.

Entrees were combination fried rice and Pad Pak. Pretty good. Real fresh veggies with chicken and an extra fried egg, just love the ingredients. It's a nice fresh herb taste with lots of flavor with little seasoning. Y'all already know, if it's for the dumplings alone, She'll be back.
