The bar has great drinks and you just can't beat their tacos (ask for an extra tortilla cause you'll need it) the meat is lean and not fatty which is a huge plus! Oh man! We visited last weekend for lunch, and it is SO GOOD. The tacos are tiny street sized, but stuffed full to need a fork to eat all the meat. And man, it was flavorful. I loved the barbacoa and fish tacos. The asada was a little dry, imo, but still delicious. I love the toppings bar and that the cantina is separate to cut some of the noise. Def recommend the watermelon margarita with chamoy and tajin on the rim--whoa it's amazing. The quesadilla with asada was yummy too. New spot in Rio Rancho I've been waiting to try. Came in on a Sunday and it was packed. I stood in line for about 15 minutes which I wasn't crazy about but once I got my food, it was worth the wait. So this is a new place, think it has been open about 3 months. So you walk in and order at the counter. The guys cooks you corn tortillas and meat right there in front of you, it is cool to watch This place used to be a Burger King and they have totally changed it. So cool inside, plenty of locations to sit and now that it is getting warm you can sit outside They have loaded fries and you can add the taco meat. I was able to try the El Pastor and asada tacos. Good tacos. I don't know if they have any special days, like taco Tuesday, but I'll check into that. Parking lot is full but that lets you know it is a good place to eat. This was my first time at Tap N Taco. When you walk in, the noise level hits you and is overwhelming. About half full with music blaring, the concrete floors reflect so much noise it was very hard to hear or have any type of conversation. I didn't know what the routine was, so asked the guy behind the counter. Evidently I was supposed to get a tray and tell him what I wanted. OK. 2 fish tacos, 1 barbacoa and 1 asada. $2 each. The Good: $2 for a street taco in today's day an age is really cheap. The Bad: The corn tortillas themselves were quite stale. So stale I could hardly bend them into a taco shape so I could eat them. The barbacoa was OK, but really fatty and greasy. The asada was also OK, with nothing outstanding about it. The fish were the best of the 3, but also had an uncanny resemblance to Gorton's Frozen Fish Filets. All were identical in shape and size with no evidence that they were battered or touched ever by a human. Honestly, the entire experience was 2 1/2 stars. Since that rating was not available, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. No compelling reason to return. read more

Here's what you do: order 1 tacos each of all the meats--see what you like. Barbacoa tacos are juicy, tender and the best you've ever had. El pastor comes in right behind--solidly delish taco. The Asada is salty cubes of heaven that are best on nachos. Carnitas is good--don't skip the pina! Chicken is grilled and pretty good but no one ever says that chicken is mind-blowing; it's chicken. Even the fish was crispy--don't skip the cabbage. The quesadillas are extra! Handful of cheese thrown onto flat top=crispy, meaty yum. Loaded fries and loaded potatoes are huge and generous, but it's called Tap n TACO! Get the tacos. Lastly, get nachos with a safe for you table and watch everyone's manners go out the door. You start with a few chips, then end up throwing heños at the person reaching for the last chip. Salsas are fresh and range from mild (avocado crema) to melt your tongue (red). What should be an interesting concept is brought down by poor logistics and bad staff. The food and drink sections are two separate entities. The food section is set up like an elementary school cafeteria mixed with a chipotle, with the line and trays to match. The line is bogged down by the use of only one employee, despite 6-8 being present. I waited 15 minutes in line for them to make 5 tacos, when all of the ingredients are pre made. My Pastor was cold and greasy. In the bar section, you need to go up to the bar to drink. The bartenders ignore mast patrons and hug (visibly) drunk regulars, while standing around vaping in doors, in the face of customers. The female bartender was dressed worse then a hooters waitress, so definitely not a family place. Another was sitting at the bar drinking. The beer is over priced and there are only a few local taps- it's mostly bud, which is also what they advertise. All the tables in the bar section were dirty. Everyone kept asking for a tip- they are slow, the food is cold, none actually does any service, and the atmosphere sucks. Why would I give you extra money? The owners should just pay their employees (or at least the three that were actually working) To top it off, people were begging for money inside the bar area, and were better acknowledged by the bartenders than the people trying to spend money. read more

I really loved this place. It was so delicious, quick, and filling. My friend and I came here after a baby shower wanting some dinner before taking our boys home. Service was fast despite the long line. The alcohol section is separated by the former play place in this old Burger King location. Everything we had was delicious and we will be back. One thing that I would suggest is taking down the drive-thru signs because those can be confusing unless you actually have a drive-thru which is not clear. I visited Tap N Taco for the first time after an afternoon of bowling. We worked up a real good appetite because our lane had problem after problem. We kept getting iced out after a couple frames. Needless to say, we didn't bowl very good. But this review is not about that! Ha! I came to Tap N Taco HUNGRY! Honestly, my hungry was amplified when we walked in! The food smelled great. The chicken was being grilled and the pork for al pastor was being browned up on cook top. I was ready to eat! With $2 a taco, I went for it! I ordered 5 tacos! 2, carne asada, 1 chicken, 1 fish, 1 al pastor. It's all served furr's cafeteria style, you grab a tray, order and pay at the end. The cashier is followed by the salsa bar for your tacos. Pico, salsa rojo, salsa verde, cilantro, onions and limes! Don't forget to order your grilled jalapenos up at the front with your tacos. My least fav was the fish taco, but that's not saying it was bad, because it wasn't. Unfortunately, someone is always at the end when you are rating best to worst. The interesting part is that the place was an old Burger King. What was previously the play room area, is now a bar. If you are sitting inside, you have to go out to the bar to order and pay. You don't do that in the food line. Both rooms are loud and have a lot going on. I totes recommend it. I didn't try anything but the tacos, (and the churros). If you have had Los Angeles Street Tacos before, come to Tap N Taco because they have them here in New Mexico. Al Pastor, Barbados, Asada, Chicken or Fish. They sell street Tacos stacked with the meat of your choice and provide all the topping to complete the Taco. They also have Quesadilla and Papas. I used to stop at street vendors on Manchester and Broadway in South Central L.A. to eat their Tacos. Tap N Taco is as good. My one complaint is that the only give one corn tortilla not two. I was recommend this place by a family member. The moment you walk in the doors you can feel that the place is very cheerful with love music and lots of families with their little ones. It's definitely a family friendly restaurant. Then there is a glass separating the bar from the main dining area in which families are sitting at. It's nice because then the bar and those that want to drink can do without making families feel uncomfortable with their little ones. People in the bar were enjoying themselves. If you want to sit in the family area and bring your alcohol drinks you can also do so. Drinks are reasonably priced and descent portions for the prices. I went initially for birria tacos but they were out of them that day. However I believe I got Al pastor tacos and my guest go barbcaoa tacos. We ended getting churros which were perfectly cooked and a loaded baked potato side and some chips. I would say the meat meat was cooked to perfection. The only thing that would have made this a great experience was if their salsa actually was hot/spicy/picante. As a NM native I'm used to having salsa that give the food a hit of spice. I felt their salsa were bland and needed more spicy news. We got some jalapeños but the first round was bland and the second round were spicy and perfect for my likening. Dry, strange flavored meats. The Al Pastor did come with pineapple, so was somewhat authentic, but the flavor of the meat was strange, and it was dry. I couldn't place the spice, but it was not one I've tasted anywhere I get Al Pastor in Mexico. The Asada had an aftertaste of Fabuloso cleaning product. The salsas were decent and appeared fresh. The ambiance of this taco bar is as cliché as it gets. A caricature of a Mexican hip taqueria. The place true to hard to be hip, the people try to hard to be hip, and the chef doesn't try hard enough. I will never complain that they don't deliver on their food products. 2. The selection is pretty narrow. I would love it if they could find a way to expand their menu to include burritos. It's really hard to find a good carne asada burrito. I am kind of hoping they can with the quality they have set for the rest of the restaurant delivery this. 3. Payment method can be a bit of a pain at the drive through. I would prefer just handing my card over like Most drive through and not have to run it myself.
