I have been thinking about getting my concealed carry permit for a long time and had put it off because I didn't want to be "that guy". My brother has his CCW permit back east and I talked to him a lot about it. Then in CA my friend suggested Tap Rack Bang so I signed up for their CCW class. The program is two full days for the California permit and I also did the UT and AZ addition which fills out the days. You can probably find a shorter class but if you end up CCW you DON'T want to skimp on the educational and hands on portion! Think about it, you are going to be handling a firearm which you hopefully will never have to draw but if you do there can be very heavy consequences. Ernie, Brenden and Stephen were great instructors, they answered any questions we had and worked with us to make sure we were ready to handle the responsibility of CCW. I have owned handguns for over 30 years and I learned more in two days about guns and gun laws than I have known in my entire life, it was eye opening to say the least. The first day was spent in a mix of lecture and dry firing, the day was fun and went by fast. The second day was spent in the range, perfecting your draw and shooting in practical scenarios. This was followed up with classroom breakout sessions that were extremely helpful and thought provoking because they answered a lot of questions on situations that I already had thought about. I am hoping that once I get my permits (I'm filling out paperwork as we speak) I will NEVER have to draw my firearm, but if I do I am very confident that I will have the proper training and mindset to do so. Like anything else, I will continue to practice at home and at the range (gdamn I wish ammo wasn't so expensive) and am already considering some of TRB's other classes. I have already recommended Tap Rack Bang to my friends, like I said before you will not find a more thorough class with instructors that can present complicated information in a fun and informative (and safe) manner. Very comprehensive and detailed training. Ernie is a professional and his team are all top of their game. They are all very skilled at what they do. The CCW class I attend was interesting and entertaining. I learned a lot more than I thought I would about laws and regulations. Erine covers a lot but it's in a great learning environment, and he makes it fun. The second day was mostly shooting and I got to use some of the skills taught to me the previous day. If you are on the fence, don't be. You will at the very least, come away with a better understanding of your weapon and how to employ it safely and efficiently. Again I had a great time throughout the 2 days and will definitely be back for the more advanced training that they offer. I just finished my CCW Class at FT3 range in Orange County, CA with Ernie and his great staff. He covers everything you need to get your CCW but he prepares you for so much more than just qualifying for your permit. He helps you learn how to use your permit in most real life situations and how to recognize the best choices to make and what the consequences could be. The range time was awesome. It was like getting great military and police training along with improving your skills, habits, reaction time and split second decisions. The hours of drills, dry fire training and speed techniques were both challenging, fun and a great learning experience. The class time was not just a great learning opportunity but was fun and entertaining. You are involved in the class time and never bored. Every one of the staff was really helpful and you got constant attention from staff to help you correct bad habits and improve during drills and range time. I had a great experience with every staff member and we had former military and police personnel help. It was challenging but I got more out of 16 hours then I could have imagined. If your serious about training the right way for your upcoming CCW course these guys are the ones you need to come to. Just completed the course with them at FT3 Tactical and could not be happier with the professionalism and care from each of their more then well qualified instructors. I had a great experience taking the CCW course with Ernie at TRB. The course is 16 hours of must have information that will prepare you to safely and effectively concealed carry. You may find some shorter courses out there but there is no way that you will be properly prepared by taking any shortcuts. TRB's course covers everything from basic gun safety, dry fire drills that you can (and should) practice even at home, to the laws and moral decisions you must always keep in mind. Ernie is the real deal if you are looking for an experienced instructor. He has the background and methods to build your confidence in your gun handling skills while keeping the course fun. Tap Rack Bang is a well organized CCW course. The facility is super clean and modern. Each person in the class was provided a neat, organized, personalized binder. These guys aren't one of the Sheriffs authorized training providers for nothing. Both the class and the live fire quals take place at FT3 tactical which is one of, if not the best indoor range in OC. Clean, extremely diligent but kind RSOs and employees with lots of rental options and lanes. If you can think of a lecture room but actually comfortable, you have the class portion of the course. Plenty of room for both note taking and dry fire drills as you listen and ask questions all about the CCW. I took the TRB CCW course with a friend and enjoyed every minute of it! It was a super informative, interesting, and very well designed course. I now feel 100% prepared to safely carry a firearm. I also feel confident to act quickly and effectively in the unfortunate event that I would need to deploy my firearm. The 2-day course was packed with real life scenarios, videos of actual firefights, and up to date training on the laws and best practices of self-defense in CA. We had hands-on live-fire training and learned how to quickly draw and perform tactical reloads. Honestly I couldn't think of something else I would have rather been doing on my birthday than training with good people and great instructors improving my self-defense skills and learning how to secure the safety of my family! This review has been a long time coming as i wanted to give a full report from start to finish in starting my training, applying for, and obtaining my CCW permit. Now that I have crossed the finish line, here is my honest opinion of TRB and my experiences with them. This team of individuals are the absolute definition of when firearms training meets customer service. Professional, kind, courteous, and constantly going the extra mile for their customers. From signing up and receiving the binder from Sunshine, to classroom training and the White Glove Service with Ernie,  to the range day/live fire with Ernie, Brendon, and Stephen. Every single interaction with each one of the people I've named was exceptional. I attended the hybrid OC/LA CCW course in April that consisted of 3 nights of ZOOM classroom and dry fire exercises and then a live fire training day on the 4th day at FT3 in Stanton. The class consisted of people from all walks of life with some having never used a firearm to those that were explicitly experienced with prior combat experience. Ernie took the time to address everyone's questions/concerns in great detail regardless of how experienced or inexperienced the person was and was very good at keeping the material interesting all the while delivering it  in such a way that you were able to comprehend and relate to. He was very detailed and thorough going through all of the rules, regulations, and laws associated with obtaining your CCW as well as the necessity to continue your training beyond the class even after obtaining your permit. The expectations of what you need to do to obtain your permit is also discussed in great detail even all the way down to what the interview process will entail.  I cannot express enough how informative this class was and the confidence that is instilled in you when you get to the end. On the live fire exercise day, Ernie, Brendon, and Stephen worked their tail off to get the range ready for us since someone from FT3 overslept and did not open the range on time. This was something completely out of TRB's hands and even though it was not their fault, they still offered a discounted rate on their upcoming Advanced CCW course. Safety is PARAMOUNT in how TRB conducts their training as there was a very detailed safety meeting prior to taking the range and was reiterated throughout the entire day. Each instructor was active in providing advice and assistance on the range after each exercise as they would pull you aside to help you better position your hands, smooth out your holster draw, how to properly reload, etc. I completed my training having learned a lot and leaving with confidence that I had not had prior to their course. They provided finger printing services (for an additional fee, not included in the class costs) which actually came to my house to complete the live scan as well as all the documents necessary to obtain my Utah/Arizona licenses. They did do finger printing at FT3 for the out of state licensing. I decided to do their "White Glove Service" which entailed a one on one meeting with Ernie to set up and actually submit my CCW application and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. His attention to detail and the information he provides you to prep you for your interview is invaluable. He makes sure you have all the information you need as well as the required documents to resubmit should something be missing come time for your interview. The availability that he provides to his client's is never ending as i reached out to him just days prior to my interview as they required additional information for which Ernie was able to provide guidance on how to handle their request. The team at TRB is very good at responding to your inquiries with almost no wait time. The total time it took for me to get my permit was approximately 5 and a half months due to the back log of applicants with the OCSD. I also attended one of their Advanced CCW courses which focused on the fundamentals of room clearing with live fire exercises at FT3. Again, the staff was impeccable with what they instilled in you with the short time you're there and they critiqued everything from basic firing of your weapon to manipulations of the weapon as your proceeded through the courses. To say I am pleased with my experiences at TRB would be a complete understatement and if you are on the fence of going with this team to complete your training, you need to jump over already and get on the road to completion. Another fun fact: TRB will track your permit expiration date and contact you to remind you that you need to renew your license with ample time to do so, that way you don't have to go through the entire process from the beginning. This past weekend I attended CCW training with Tap Rack Bang. Going into the weekend I was very nervous. I have many years of shooting at FT3 tactical, but this was my first formal training. Ernie Medina is a fabulous instructor and is very professional. Leaving the course this weekend I felt a lot more confident in using my firearms. I have minimal experience with firearms. After taking the CCW class I realized the importance of continuing my training. Ernie and all of his other instructors Brendon and Riley are awesome instructors. They make the class fun and are patient, but make no mistake they are serious about safety. The scenarios make you think how you would react. During the breakout sessions everyone is able to give their opinion without being judged. Went online looking for a CCW course to take that was close to home and where I could schedule it within the week. I found Tap Rack Bang which held training in a shooting range that was literally down the street from me. So I paid the fee and the next day got the email saying that I got in the class and when and where and what equipment I needed. Long story less long, the class was great, Ernie, Brendon, and Garrett did a wonderful job. I hadn't shot a gun in years and didn't plan on getting my CCW, but it didn't matter because these instructors weren't here to bash you about how bad you are shooting or even hostering or unloading and reloading, they were there to help and make sure you got it right at the speed of your liking. Got discouraged with my shooting at one point but Garrett kept talking to me and helping me through things, Brendon as well help me get my tactical reload right, make that C claw. Ernie did a great job at not only the classroom material, but on the range, he explained everything well and also showed exactly how to do it the right way. So overall this was a great experience, hopefully, I can take more classes to improve my shooting as well as reloading and other elements of shooting. I went through the CCW training with Ernie and his TRB crew at the front end of 2020, it was challenging and educational. I recommend it to all who are thinking of assuming such a responsibility. Because I believe consistent training beyond a weekend class now and then is a must if you take your life seriously, I've been meeting with TRB instructor Brendon for personal lessons out at Raahauges. It's not often you get to spend a few hours alone with a master of anything, but its always worth it. He puts me through drills, offers insights on mental and physical approaches and discusses personal gear and attire. I once asked him to perform pulling me over, and even right there in the dirt lot of Raahauges I still fumbled around nervously having an officer ask me to step out of the car while I was armed (I think that's why he had me spread out and disarmed pronto!) There's no substitute for hands on training regularly, one day your life might depend on it. That's why who you train with matters - Brendon is a smart, patient and experienced instructor. I recently completed my CCW training with TRB and I can truly say it was a worthwhile experience.
