Gin And Tonic With Thai Spring Rolls
    Steve A.

Had some pretty good tapas from this classy but casual restaurant in DeKalb. It may be the nicest restaurant in town considering most places are full of loudmouth NIU students. Tapa La Luna is a place for those wanting cocktails and small bites to accompany these. Prices aren't bad. You can get a pretty good amount for a lunch. Chill place with a pleasant atmosphere. It's one of the nicer restaurants around here. There's a bar and quite a few tables. Has pretty simple drink and food menus. Seems like there's not a whole lot of choices but that keeps things running smoothly. It's about $8 for a cocktail. There's also specialty ones that cost more. It's about $8 for one of the tapas on average. We got the Thai Spring Rolls. In these are carrots and soy marinated cabbage. You can add a couple bucks to get portobello mushrooms. A few other things on the menu include pizza if wanting something more filling. There's many things that are meant for sharing. Good place to have a pleasant meal and conversation. It's one of those restaurants that closes between lunch and dinner, and it's closed on Sundays. The menu has a lot of variation among the options, and there's a few things okay for vegans and vegetarians.

Busy on a Friday evening around 7:30pm, for a table of 4, we lucked out and slid right into a table though! A very large, everything looks so good, menu, it was so hard to choose what to eat. Sadly everything was hit & miss. The bacon dates were pretty burnt, & charred, our friends said that was not normal. Peanut Chicken, OMG, that was so so good, highly recommend! The mixed & matched bruschetta plate, sounds fun, they were the planest bruschetta I'd ever eaten. The goat cheese appetizer, we couldn't finish, the tomato sauce was sooooooo acidy it didn't get finished. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, and only got 2. We ordered 2 different sets of sliders, the flavors were good, but the meat sliders were DRY DRY, wow, probably the worst sliders I've ever had. I ordered the sliders and the server asked if I wanted fries, and I asked if they were included, and he said yes, and they were not, they were an additional $5, and it said not included on the menu as well, so that was disappointing as well. Our friends took us that live in town, they mentioned it's always hit & miss unfortunately, and we definitely had a missssssss night.

Tapaluna is a really fun experience. I loved the variety on their menu, from sushi, to flatbread, and more. We tried the goat cheese roasted red pepper dip, it was soo good. Then we had the peanut chicken skewers which were also delicious, then the crab cake stuff mushrooms, which were our favorite. Then we ended the night with the the bread pudding which was okay, too artificially sweet in my opinion. Overall a great experience.

Very comfortable and cute inside! Really lovely staff and live music. Wouldn't get the calamari. No seasoning and the tomato sauce was really thin and bland. Potstickers were really well filled, crispy, and good dipping sauce. Goat cheese was delicious! Tempura pork tenderloin made the pork dry - but really crispy and great sauce! Very good. Sliders and fries were excellent, super tasty

We made reservations for a Saturday night and we're happy we did. Our waitress, Abreia, was great and very friendly. The place has a very cool vibe and had choices for tapas, sushi, and regular American fare. My husband and I stuck with tapas which we were very pleased with. Our friends added paella and a chef's roll to the 2 tapas they ordered. Everything was delicious and much better than I expected from a small town establishment. It could've easily been a place in downtown Chicago. The plating was beautiful and the pairing of food creative. The scallops with wonton and pickled cabbage was unusually delicious and unexpected. And while I loved everything, the dates were probably my least favorite. The small dates seemed slightly overpowered by the smoky bacon. That just may be a matter of preference though, and I would certainly try them again. None of us could believe the beers were only $5. The husbands were very happy. Lol. Our waitress recommended the creme Brule Martini which was soooo good and that marshmallow was no joke - I had to finish it with my fork. They also had a cherry cordial Martini that I'd go back and try.

Fried pickle and avocado appetizer knocked my socks off. Served with two sauces (red/loosely based on 1000 island and green/not mint). Both pared perfectly with the course but brought out totally different notes. One highlighted and intensified the sourness of pickle and the other played on the creaminess of Avacado. Deserts are a must. Drinks are good but a little on the sweeter side. It's a hidden gem!

The roasted poblano soup was really delicious with deep flavors. My entrée was the roasted mini pumpkin with foie grass and apples. It was very tasty although a tad sweet and for a few extra dollars it would have been nice to have two slices of foie gras. Another of us ordered the trout and it did not state it had a creamy sauce that was going to smother the dish...two others ordered beef or the mixed grill and it was way too rare and chewy - not high enough quality meat. Not sure I would return.

Perfect for a date night or a celebratory evening with a group!…read more Meson Sabika had one of the best restaurant atmospheres I've been to in Illinois. The grounds feature a stately manor with indoor and patio seating, lots of garden space to roam with flowers and fountains to admire. I love just walking around here! The food is served tapas style, lots of small plates. And you definitely want to get a LOT of small plates because the servings are definitely small but feature a delicious taste of Spain. You can choose from hot and cold tapas, I recommend getting a mixture of both and our server recommended doing cold tapas, followed by hot. This is one of those dining experiences where you should plan to take your time and sit and sip on wine while ordering rounds of tapas throughout the evening. Some personal favorites for me were the Spanish tortilla, croquettes, beef medallions and the patatas bravas (these are spicy!!). They do have a kids menu and high chairs available. The salmon and grilled shrimp were tender and tasty as was the beef tenderloin. The empanadas were also a hit as were the chicken and jamon croquettes (the last one of which we fought over). The spicy potatoes were indeed nicely spicy and the Spanish omelet tasted like we were in Madrid again. Even the sides of the main dish were excellent, like the pea pods and the salads. The quinoa salad was also refreshing and delicious. A great dining experience for an intimate meal or a large group, to get to share even more of the wonderful fare. We have gone many times over the years, in all seasons, and never been disappointed.

Le P'tit was the first to pop up on my feed and immediately caught my attention due to its unique menu, historic building, and secluded outdoor oasis for the fair weather seasons. When asked where I wanted to have dinner on my birthday, the answer was easy, L'ptit! We were greeted by the Chef Chopra outside, who welcomed us and asked us to choose the seat that suited us best in or outdoors. We chose a seat outside as it seemed most guests were enjoying the nice weather in the garden. Chef Chopra introduced himself and explained the complimentary montadito, and presented the current specials. We loved that he took time to ask what brought us in, and when we said that we were building a new home in Bartlett only minutes away, he shared that although he has been all over the world he always misses good old Bartlett, IL. This is the kind of connection and service you won't find at franchise restaurants! We enjoyed cocktails, myself a dirty tini with bleu cheese stuffed olives, and my husband the traditional old fashioned and the P'tit old fashioned - both of which he enjoyed. We ordered the hummus for an appetizer - my husband never orders humus. Not a drop was left. It was so flavorful, and since I am intolerant to gluten we loved that it was served with cucumber "chips". We will definitely order this again! Our entrees were both specials - mine the steak and shrimp tower and my husband's the Birria. We could t decide whose was better. The shrimp and steak were so flavorful and beautifully cooked, and the beef and consommé of my husband's was out of this world. My takeaways from Le P'tit: We will be there - regularly, before we move into our home, and after! Have a cocktail, they are fabulous. Talk to Chef Chopra any chance you get. He has seen the world and loves to see his guests enjoying his menu and the atmosphere of his establishment. This is what supporting local is about! Enjoy your time at Le P'tit. Savor. Take a moment to slow down, disconnect from the outside and connect with the ones around you and enjoy the wonderfully and thoughtfully prepared dishes on the menu. We can't wait to be back!
