Driving through…read morehere, you see the blight and the abandonment of this area of Indianapolis since the decline of manufacturing. Then again, it's not an uncommon story unfortunately- large parts of the city forgotten in terms of economic development but then suddenly needed during times of campaigning. Had taken Keystone and then Rural Street to get here, and the potholes are not kind. But, we had this place on our list and were determined to make it here at least once. Tlaolli stood out for its vegan offerings. Plenty of vegan taco options, birria (an absolute rarity to see vegan birria), and torta. They offer soy chorizo, jackfruit, and king oyster mushrooms as protein options. The exterior is colorful, and inside there are seating options. We had gotten our food to go, so I cannot comment too much on the service. Had placed our order online, and the food was ready within the estimated time in the order. We ordered the vegan birria tacos ($17.99), the vegan torta ($10.99 base but added soy chorizo, which was $3.99), and the no-no-no taco ($5.99). Our total with fees was approximately $45. Tlaolli offers outdoor seating, so when the weather is nicer this would be a good place to come. Next to the East Washington IPL branch, Tlaolli has a colorful green exterior with neon signage. Food: The food was very good. The proteins were nicely seasoned and juicy. The highlight for me was the birria tacos and the consome. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 10/10. This is a great local business in the area to support: offers a diverse menu of options with food that is comforting and tasty.

The are made in-house and just have a more delicate texture than you get at other restaurants. Chorizo queso was very flavorful, but maybe a little thinner consistency than we were used to getting. Burritos are huge and delicious. The chorizo tacos were very tasty as well. The downfall to everything is the condition of the dining area. It was clean (and what I could see of the kitchen looked clean), but It seemed to me to be less maintained/updated than a dive bar. The parking lot is also a problem as it has zero lights. Well, minus the stick on solar lights they've stuck on a few places of the building. BUT...the restaurant was recently purchased by a younger couple!! We were told a new menu was coming very soon. Hopefully with time, they will make the improvements to make this a no hesitation go-to for Mexican food in Irvington! Until then, give them your support via carry out.

The restaurant itself is small, but don't let that fool you. The menu may be concise, but everything tastes like it's made with care rather than trying to offer 100 different options. The tacos are fantastic, and the fresh house-made tortillas make all the difference. If it's your first visit, do yourself a favor and stop by the salsa station. There are several options ranging from mild to a nice kick of heat, and they're all worth trying. One of my favorite things is that you can order directly from the taco shop or from the pickup window connected to Turner's next door. Grab your tacos, walk over to the bar, order a drink, and enjoy one of the coolest lunch or dinner spots downtown. It's such a fun setup that makes the whole experience even better. The staff has always been friendly, service is quick, prices are very reasonable, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. If you're exploring downtown Indianapolis and craving authentic tacos, Julieta deserves a spot on your list.

The food was fine, good -- not bad, but not amazing, just "normal." But I like to support small local businesses, especially in these times. I heard they were really good. What is weird is that there is a taco bell in the same parking lot, so I can't help but make comparisons to that. (And honestly, I really like taco bell and eat it fairly often), So honestly, I wonder if that must be hurting this business a lot. And I don't know if this is because of covid or not, but food was served on a divided styrafoam plate with plastic utensils. It would present much better is there were real plates and silverware. So although they had seating as open, it really felt like perhaps I should be doing take out. I was there at 4pm on a Tuesday, so they were not busy with a lunch or dinner rush. The young man behind the counter was friendly. There were two other men standing behind the counter. They kept their backs to me. I did see one woman in the kitchen doing the food prep. There is ample parking in the strip mall lot. #ReviewsByRL
