We went here with a few friends to try out the Beer Wall and grab some food. While I have had flights of beer in other places, I truly appreciated the ability to try as much (or little) of each beer/cider on the wall. I am pretty picky when it comes to beer (being more of a wine or bourbon drinker), and I still had many options to choose from. I also ordered the Korean Gochujang wings with tots. The wings were great - very flavorful. And I would order them again. The tots were just tots. I wasn't in the mood for fully-loaded tots. My vegetarian friend ordered the Black Bean Burger, and she said it was a burger coming back for. And that's high praise from her. This is a fun concept and a good place to watch a game however, when it comes to food the prices don't quite justify the quality. I come here because it is convenient, always has been for me and now even more so because of the streetcar and because of the self serve beer wall. If that intimidates you don't fret because there is a full bar and some taps behind the bar the bartenders can serve you from. Sometimes I choose to do this because the beer wall can get pricey quickly but, it's a novel and fun concept that works for downtown. The food though I feel is overpriced, like why am I paying $15 for tots that are barely topped with toppings and really aren't even a sizable portion? Last time I was here to watch the Chiefs game I ordered the Rueben Tots expecting a fun pile of classic Rueben sandwich components on top of hot crispy greasy tots instead what I received was a small mound of stringy corned beef and a slice of melted Swiss cheese and a dismal drizzle of thousand island. I had to ask for more sauce on the side because it just wasn't enough for the amount of tots. If these would have been between $10-$12 maybe I would have let it slide and this review would have been different but for $15 I just wasn't too happy. Also, another note the menu online has absolutely no descriptions whatsoever so, if you're trying to place a pickup order good luck knowing what you're actually ordering. This could be an easy fix. The service is okay but sometimes it feels like you have to chase down the wait staff or just walk up to the bar to get another drink or ask for a menu. I'm sure happy hour is fine here but I haven't been for years so, I'm not sure if the prices have gone up for that too. Will I be back? Well yes but, I'll definitely order something different from the menu then the last time around. Maybe 4 sliders for $15 is a better way to go? Because I've also gotten the Rueben sandwich here before for $15 and I felt like it was sparse and the meat was lacking. Second try $8.75 most of which misses my glass. I go back and say that I'm being charged $8.75 for foam. She says, "Operator error". No remedy, no apology. I say you're charging me more than a full beer price for less than half. She says the "system " is, not her. Had she made it right, probably would have made it up in tip. Stopped at Taps On Main, walking from the Netherlands March, around 12:15 today (June 25th). They were about half full at the time, and I went out onto the deck and grabbed a table for 2. There was a foursome there, who had been waiting a bit, as one guy looked at me and said, "good luck". Sat there for a good 10 minutes before a waitress came out and asked me what I wanted....."COORS Light can". She walked over to the other table and said she'd be back. Mind you, the establishment wasn't full at this time, by any means. After about another 15 minutes the foursome got up and left, clearly agitated. In that time, she had come back out and waited on another table, so I saw their point. After waiting on them, she looked at me and said, "COORS Light, right?". I shook my head yes and off she went. Rack up another 5 minutes and she came back with a glass of beer. I said, "I ordered a COORS Light can" and she walked off. Came back, waited on some other folks and walked over to me....."we don't have COORS Light cans"....uh, OK....Bud Light...."we don't have Bud Light either". OK, then what do you have ? "Modelo, Ultra ?". Fine, a Modelo. 5 minutes later (I kid you not) she came back with a Modelo. In the time of 35+ minutes I got a single beer and shit service. I drank about half of it and held up my card to pay. she brought over her hand held scanner and said, "there's a 20% gratuity as well". I said, "after all that?". she said it's standard for the World Cup. I was well aware that some establishments were doing that, so I wasn't blindsided . It was just a beer. That said, in the case of Taps On Main, it was a pure money grab to prey on foreigners, as the buzz was they don't tip. After my experience, the 20% was a slap in the face to a local. I have been to Taps multiple times and never had a stellar experience, so you'd think I would learn my lesson. Well, this time I did. Taps is permanently out for myself, family and anyone else who cares to listen. Had they been swamped at the time would have been a different story. But the 20% attitude and terrible service sold me on not going back. Will it hurt Taps On Main ? Nope. Will I feel better walking right past to go to UpDown or North to The Quaff or Blueline ? This was our 3rd time coming to Taps on Main and we were really looking forward to eating here again. However, the menu has changed and they removed our favorite items. When you order, make sure you read the fine print - use your flashlight. We ordered the Philly sandwiches and the waitress asked if we wanted all the veggies and we said yes. We didn't realize the veggies were a $2 up charge. The menu noted the veggies, but the print blended into the menu background & they dimmed the lights in the place when we sat down. We also ordered the sweet potato fries at $4.00 but were charged $5.00, so make sure to check your tickets. The last thing we were charged for was a small cup of ranch dressing to dip the fries in, no up charge was mentioned. Lastly, the beer selection has gone downhill. We were here in January and it had a lot of craft beers. Now it was mainly domestic/common beers like Budweiser. If I come to a place like this, I'm expecting a lot of craft beers to try. I really wanted to enjoy this place again, but all the changes and up charges will ensure we never return. We came to watch the ND game and they accommodated us even though there were some local teams playing as well. The self pour taps had a large variety of styles- something for everyone. Had quite a few hazy IPAs on tap which is my preference. Food wise: we only ordered an appetizer because we were full from a large brunch, but the cheese curds were phenomenal. Cooked perfectly with light breading. The cheese was melty and pulled apart easily. They were better than cheese curds I had in Green Bay. I admit, I was intrigued with this place due to the self serve beer station. I had first experienced this back in San Diego years ago. However, I'm not sure how they offer it, or if they ever were offering the station as no one used it once while I was there on a packed Saturday night, so I ordered two domestics from the bar. This place is definitely raucous, like many sports themed bars in KC. It doesn't really offer a vibe I can't get at one of a dozen spots in KC, but it did have a good atmosphere. The reason I gave this place two stars is because the service is substandard and the food was not good and overpriced. First the bartenders was much more interested in what was happening on his phone than serving customer, to the point another server had to serve me. Once he realized he wasn't doing his job, he started caring more. Secondly, the food was mediocre and way overpriced. I ordered a Cubano and it was overly dry and was definitely not scratch made. The ham felt like it came from a supermarket and the pulled pork was very dry. It was also tiny, the equivalent to a 6 inch sub. The sides don't come with the meal and I got about 12 tots for $3. They were okay, but nothing special. Price wise, they are similar to my neighborhood bar, Barley's, but they are a made from scratch bar and their food is leagues better in quality and taste. For a Cubano, side and two beers and tip, it came to a total $38. I suggest coming here to watch the game with friends and maybe share an app or two, but as a meal, it was definitely lacking. read more

What a great place to hang with friends! I love the multiple taste/drink options where you get charged per ounce of whatever you choose to drink. Makes it fun to try many different beer or cider options. There is a wall of multiple options to choose from and you can grab a glass, place your "beer card" the waitress provides to you and pour your own brew. Pretty noisy. Most folks are drinking, not eating. The beer is pour your own. You trade a credit card for a beer card. Place the card on the tap and you get charged by the ounce. Lots of choices! Now, the food. I had the BLEAT (bacon, lettuce, egg, avocado and tomato). It was pretty darn good. There was a lot of bacon on it and it was cooked well. The bread was good too. Only disappointing thing was the egg. I wanted it over easy. It was not runny at all. The biggest detractor is the fries. Way overcooked. It's not a place I would go out of my way to go back to, but it wasn't so bad that I'd refuse to go back. I ordered the Nashville Hot (chicken) sandwich and a side of Brussels sprouts. I DON'T recommend the sandwich. I felt that the chicken's breading left a lot to be desired. It wasn't flavorful like the chicken I've had in Nashville, TN. It also tasted a bit burnt. I think my biggest gripe was that it wasn't spicy at all, and it was rather oily. On the menu, it mentions that it comes with Nashville hot sauce on it, but I didn't see it or taste it on my sandwich. The Brussels sprouts were okay, but they were supposed to have bacon in them. I didn't see any bacon! Did they forget to add it? Service was good, but overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Fortunately, we were quickly able to locate this place and it looked like a fun place to stop in for a bite and a beer. It was pretty crowded upon our arrival but fortunately we were able to snag the literal last table available along the back wall next to the bar. They have a MILLION beers available, divided into "from the bar" and "self serve". It was never explained how the self serve part works as I see it was for some other people so I made things easier and ordered something from the bar tap. They also have many tempting options including vegetarian alternatives like fried pickles, zucchini chips, fried brussels sprouts. We were just there for a quick snack so we went with the spicy battered cauliflower which was AMAZING. It had a crispy breading and the flavor was incredible. It definitely was spicy but the paired dipping sauce cooled the fire off in my mouth. There were a thousand TVs so you can catch your game while you eat and drink.
