We went to Double Tap KC for my friend's birthday and ended up having such a fun experience. We booked the virtual reality, which was definitely the highlight of the night. It was a little confusing at first getting everything set up and figuring out the controls, but once we got into it, it was a blast. The setup upstairs is really cool--it's somewhat separated, which helps you stay immersed, but there are still other arcade games up there so if you're waiting for your turn, you're not just standing around. One thing I really appreciated was the drink selection. I don't drink alcohol, and they had a TON of mocktail options, which honestly made the experience way better for me. It's not something every place puts effort into, so that stood out. The food was also surprisingly good, with plenty of options to choose from. Downstairs has more of a full bar vibe with additional games and more space to sit and eat (no VR down there), so it's nice to have both environments depending on what you're in the mood for. I met up with a group of friends from high school after our class reunion and this honestly was a good spot for a group of friends. It is a great spot to get drinks because there are also light bites that you can have as well. I didn't get many pics of the aesthetic, but the place is so beautiful and there are indoor and outdoor seating. There is a bar area or you can sit at the tables, which is what we did. The staff were very friendly and it was more of a casual bar type of vibe. I recently got to experience the Virtual Reality games at Doubletap KC, and there is such a wide variety that it can be difficult to know where to start. Luckily, the staff at Doubletap are there to help. They will ask you what kind of games you're interested in and direct you to some options to get the fun started quickly. And something great about the experience is that if you end up not enjoying the game, you can immediately choose to jump into a different one. While they don't have free roam VR rooms yet, I'm told there are plans to incorporate them eventually. But although that means you have to stand in one spot during the entire game, the gameplay mechanics of the games I tried built in a way for you to move around the virtual world even though you are stationary in the real. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful during our experience. And while I can't speak for the food available at Doubletap since we only came in to play games, I can say that the place looked great, the food smelled good, and I'm sure I'll be visiting again soon. The only reason this isn't a five-star review is that I prefer a free-roam VR gameplay, so I look forward to trying that out when they add it. A fun place that hosts a game night on Tuesdays. They also have tacos on Tuesdays - several filling options for a low price. They are double-decker, but I can't have the flour tortillas, so I kind of miss out on the true fun of it. But they are still tasty and a good deal for the money. Our family ended up trying out this venue on a whim. We are so pleased that we did! The owner or maybe the manager was very nice and welcoming, as well as everyone that worked there. There was eight of us in our family with a baby and two children, and we rented a room in the back to do the VR gaming. That was a lot of fun for everyone that tried it, and the hostess, who helped with the experience was very nice as well. When we were finished, we moved into the main seating area into a nice booth and enjoyed some cocktails and food. The atmosphere was very casual and our granddaughters. From the minute, we walked in, we were greeted with warmth from the regular patrons as well as the staff. We all ordered a variety of different foods and they all arrived around the same time. They were very on top of making sure our water was full and that we were cared for in every way we could possibly need. The service was excellent. Our server was super attentive and helpful, as were any other passing employees. It was super loud inside because of the televisions, which made it difficult to hear the trivia host (the event we were there for). That was a bit frustrating. The food was pretty average for a bar. The chicken strips are okay and the mozzarella sticks were nice and hot, but lacked flavoring in the breading. I had to take off a couple of stars for this incredibly persistent, loud high-pitched noise that kept going the entire time we were there. We came to doubletap today and LOVED it. We were made to feel welcome the moment we came in the door. We were also offered to stop early or explore while waiting, we explored and loved the layout of this cute two story venue. We ordered a bomb, cocktail, and pretzel bites and it was all delicious. The bartender was also so nice and attentive. The VR suite was spacious and the video and employee helped us get oriented and comfortable before playing. Didn't know what to expect but ended up having so much fun. They charge by the hour and varying depending on how many VR sets you get. You can also order food & drinks but we didn't since we were heading to a dinner right after. Liked that each VR set is separated, somewhat like your own private booth in a way. This was my first time going to a VR arcade, so I didn't know what to expect. There is a lot going on when you walk in this place and wasn't sure what to do, so we asked the bartender where to go to do the Vr Arcade. We were asked if we had a reservation, we didn't, then we signed waivers and got set up in one of the bays upstairs. We had a waitress get drinks for us, and someone was sort of like an assistant to help get us fitted in our gear after watching an instructional video. Our assistant was also around whenever we needed help switching games, got out of our safe circle, or couldn't figure out something. He was very helpful ( I don't remember his name). Anyway, I had a freaking blast here, unbelievable fun! Every game was so entertaining, and the staff was super nice, they have a lot of cocktail offerings, daily specials, food, arcade games, and even an escape room on the other side! We didn't try the food, and I only had a skinny margarita, and my companion tried a thc seltzer that had a good flavor. We came on a Tuesday afternoon and it wasn't very busy but I could imagine other nights, especially on the weekends this place could get pretty packed, so it would be a good idea to make reservations. There is so much to do here and so much fun to be had. For sure, I'm coming back here to experience more of what this place has to offer! read more

There is no debate that this is a bar. Yes, there are a handful of games, but at its core it is a bar. They serve bar food and most of the main floor is taken by the bar. They do have events as well, but they are geared toward adults. When we were there it was for what I thought would be video trivia; however, it was definitely geared toward adults and was not trivia, It was random silly questions and the participants were encouraged to be "funny and creative" with their answers, which resulted in many inappropriate responses. On top of that, someone had a child there. In a bar. Nit that they are responsible for the child since they state "families" can go there in the description, but I would never ever consider bring a child to this establishment. The food was pretty good for bar food, but the service left something to be desired. Before the "trivia" game began, service was not bad; however, once it began, the waitress was more interested in the game and hanging out with the couple who brought their 6 year old in than actually doing her job. I attempted several times to get her attention, then finally had to walk over to the bar myself and ask for my burger (made incorrectly) to get fixed. She did jump up and meet me at the bar when she saw me walk over, not that it helped any since I already made the trip over there. I also had to go to the bar myself to get a drink refill after that. In total I had to go to the bar myself 3 times once the game started because the "waitress" ignored us. I won't be going back. I only gave 3 stars because (once they made it correctly) the burger and fries really were good. read more

This was a fun little spot. My husband and I stopped by on New Year's Day. Staff were very friendly and personable. They did a great job helping us get started. We spent an hour there playing games and enjoyed some wings. The select of games was nice; seems like they have something for all abilities and the wings were also some of the better ones I've had at places like this. What a fun fun time!!! Staff is spectacular - so friendly and patient. We celebrated my father-in-law's birthday this evening, and they were so accommodating. We rented the party "lane" which had 5 VR headsets and seating for at least 12 (if not more). There were drink specials and yummy food. We got the queso, salsa, and Dojo Tacos. If you're looking for good bar tacos - this place is great. There are tons of game options, single player or multi; for kids, "ladies", or zombie lovers. Staff explain how to work the headsets and were so helpful with my in-laws. They have some super cute Halloween themed drinks. The syringes (Jell-O shots) and witches cauldron (enough for two people) were our favorites. We will definitely be back. read more

816 Day was wildly a success in my eyes, especially since I discovered that this self proclaimed virtual reality arcade has a full service bar and sells food! I was floored to grab a quick bite, an $8.16 burger, and a local beer, $4 on special, after watching the performances at river market. Double Tap is located on the far side of river market, across from the cold storage lofts and right next to a micro brewery. The bartender, even though very busy, took my order quickly and got me a cold beer quick. They had a variety of boulevard brews however, I went with KC Bier Company hefeweizen. The burger wasn't anything that special, it lacked seasoning and the meat quality wasn't the best. But, the crinkle cut fries served alongside were heavily salted and deliciously crispy. Dipped in honey mustard I was in my own personal heaven. All in all a meal with a beer for under $15 wasn't a bad deal at all and since trivia nights seem to fall on Wednesdays it was an added bonus being able to play from the bar. I wanted to love this place! It's such a cool concept and the staff is amazingly friendly - it's the food that tanked the experience for me. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, and it was basically inedible. The chicken is some kind of reconstituted patty situation that's clearly microwaved (the same ingredient was used on the tacos, which is odd since they charge an extra $2 for the option). We also ordered a burger, and the meat was hard and cold in the middle. While the menu is clearly not this venue's main focus, it desperately needs some attention. read more

One of our party members had their leg in a boot and used a knee scooter. When we arrived, they told us our room was on the second floor, which is inaccessible to our party member. They did not have any elevators nor ADA-compliant options nor were they able to swap a party in the ground floor with us. One of the staff members laughed as well at our situation.
