Taps is pretty awesome. They have a great spot right on the river with some outdoor seating with a view of downtown Petaluma. Very relaxed atmosphere with several HD tv's and a cool wood carved bar top. Most of all, they have an awesome selection of beers. They do a pretty good job mixing up the variety of beer types from local beers, to foreign beers. They usually have approximately 40 different beers on tap (hence the name). Minimalist menu for food, but what they offer is good (burgers, tacos, etc.) Not a bad place for kids either, they offer a specialty root beer and have a giant Jenga set. The only issue I have ever had is coming in at 10Pm and being told right off the bat that I only had time for 1 beer because they closed at 11Pm. It wasn't really an issue because I only wanted one beer after a long day, but thats not exactly how you want to be greeted. Overall, I really love Taps. Just like Yelper Caitlin pointed out, Taps does appear to be located in a strip-mall like setting. However, their patio is overlooking the water which makes it for a prettier feel. This spot is great for neighborhood pub/American foods and a great beer on tap. They pride themselves in mostly having local beer offerings but do also have some options from out of state breweries as well. We had their .50 cent wing specials which come in a variety of flavors- sooo delish and what a bargain for food! Ask for them! Great for a casual outing, watching sports on their number of tvs, or enjoying the patio during the warmer climate days. read more

Although its located in a strip mall type setting, the actual location of the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Right next to the water, with a great patio area. Honestly surprised...Not much is included with the menu options, so make sure you ask when ordering if say...a side of bbq sauce costs extra when you order the $4 fries for your burger (since that isn't included in the price of the burger either!) Food was ok BUT when I got the bill, I found out they charged me $1 for the bbq sauce, in addition to the 4% cost of living tax for their employees, which is great, but maybe elevate the dining experience and quality of food to increase checks and tips, instead of nickel-and-dimeing me. read more

I went here on Saturday evening with a friend. It was kind of a fluke that we ended up here, but it was a happy mistake because it had a beautiful view and the ambience was perfect. based on a recommendation from our waitress, we both tried the Hefeweizen, which is a German Wheat beer. We both liked it because it was not bitter, but nice and smooth for a darker beer. Perfectly paired with our food. We both chose burgers. Hers was lamb and mine was a regular beef burger. My friend said that she liked the burger because the lamb was not overcooked or gamey, plus, the onions were sauteed devinely. She said it was nice and juicy and oh so tender. My burger was also cooked to perfection with a lovely local creamy Chevre Goat Cheese that was to die for. It also had pesto which balanced it well. We had garlic fries to share and there was a perfect amount of garlic! The waitress was bubbly and attentive and really answered our questions thoroughly. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food menu was very limited in my opinion, but I will definitely go back. read more

I have eaten here three times over the past year. The staff in consistently excellent -- the servers really know the beer list, for example. The staff is happy to pour tasters. I appreciate that the menu changes periodically. The food is very good. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The location is great, too. I could personally do without the collection of 42-inch screens, but that is a quibble. Overall, I dig this place, and have recommended it to friends. read more

For a vegetarian, who also doesn't like mushrooms, this was NOT the place to go. There isn't a huge menu, and there are only a few vegetarian options...most of which have a main ingredient of portabella mushroom. For example, the vegetarian option for burger substitutes? A portabella mushroom. I ended up having a cobb salad, minus all the meat...and it wasn't that great. In their defense, it probably is a good salad if you have all the meat on it, but for me it was pretty plain, and not enough dressing. On the plus side, the atmosphere was fun, and I like how open the layout of the restaurant is. My boyfriend thought his burger was great, so for him it was a good experience. He would probably go back, whereas I probably will not. read more

This is the place to go for a beer and some pub food with a couple of friends. I love coming to this place and the pork belly mac & cheese is so good. The fries and burgers are tasty too but the thing that brings people to this place is the beer and the atmosphere. This place is great. We had beer, wings and the pulled pork sandwich with a side salad. Everything was great. The hot wing were very crispy and saucy, aka delicious. My favorite was the house smoked pulled pork. It was perfectly smoked and had a nice, sweet KC style bbq sauce, served on a homemade hoagie roll. The beer selection is huge. Being from out of town, I loved that they had a lot of local beers available which allowed us to try something different. They also had a lot of sours on tap which are very difficult to find. The location is fantastic! They have indoor and outdoor seating right along the water. The outdoor seating is covered so it can be enjoyed all day and there is plenty of seating both inside and outside. We sat inside. They had about 7 tvs throughout the inside playing various sports. The service was great. They have plenty of servers. You don't have the situation of one person covering the bar and one person covering all the tables (or one person doing both). We were constantly being checked on and asked if we would like another round. The prices were exactly what you would expect for hot wings, beer, and a sandwich. The wings were $9 for a 10pc, $11 for the pulled pork hoagie w/ side salad and the beers were like $5/each. Beer prices ranged from $5-$12, depending on the quality. Overall a great place to eat, grab a beer or both! The waterfront view is awesome and is a perfect place to sit and enjoy a beer. Taps is an awesome pub, set away in an area where you wouldn't expect it. Drive into an unassuming strip mall just east of the core downtown area, and walk all the way to the back, where Taps has a gorgeous outdoor area overlooking the river. We happened to be there the same day they were doing Santa photos in the plaza, so parking was extremely competitive. I'm guessing it's not nearly as competitive on other days (we admittedly came here for lunch, when all the other businesses are open. I'm sure after they close it empties out). We were four for lunch, and we shared the fried Brussels sprouts to start. All 4 of us are pretty big sprouts fans, and these were delicious: we were fighting over the last few! I don't care for mayo, but my 3 table mates also enjoyed the aioli they came with. My BFF and her bf both ordered burgers and garlic fries, of which I stole many and can assure, they are delicious! My fiancé had a sausage and salad, and I had the pulled pork nachos that were on special. The chips that made up the base of my nachos were a bit lackluster, but the toppings were good. Portion sizes were large (even our 6'+ men had trouble finishing their food), and the service was attentive and friendly. There's a life size Jenga on the coveted deck, which is awesome, but be forewarned if you are sensitive to sudden noises. The crash they make when they topple is intense! read more

It is hard to go wrong with a really amazing view of the Petaluma river and a tap beer list of 30 or so great beers. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was PACKED, probably because the weather was beautiful that evening. The service was friendly and very attentive (particularly because of how busy they were). We each had two beers, both of which were interesting and not the "same old, same old" (although they did have Anchor Steam and some of the other staples if you are not wanting to venture out.) The only reason I give four stars instead of five: the food menu is pretty limited (standard pub faire but not a lot of choices) and the seats were not seats but instead benches. I would have preferred a chair with a back (even if it is cheap and durable). Bottom line, go on a nice afternoon or evening, enjoy the beer and the view and have a burger. read more

Taps has the best beer selection in town by far! Everyone knows this. However, since they moved from Kentucky Street, there are no more soft pretzels. My co-workers and I really miss them. This is the place where I finished my first pint of beer, all by myself. I don't even like beer, I still don't like beer, but this place is quite awesome. It's right on the river, so it's a great place to out with friends or to take someone out. Shoot, take yourself out and make some friends when the game is on. The outdoor seating is wonderful, and there is a grown up sized Jenga game available sometimes, which can be very amusing after a few drinks. This is definitely the place to check out if you're visiting or if you're a student. There is something to be said about amazing service.... But Dave Perez is the reason why I fell in love with this place from the very beginning. His beer knowledge is vast and intriguing. Every time I go in there I have him pour me a flight from light to dark, usually starting off with a pilsner or a lager and ending in a stout or porter. When he brings the beer out he knows where it is from, what is unique about it, and if it has won any awards from certain brewing contests. I cannot stress how important it is to understand that anyone can buy a beer from a beer garden, brewing company or restaurant, but it is the people that give you an incredible experience that service connoisseurs like myself a loyal customer. If you want the full Dave Perez treatment, I suggest asking for him. What he usually likes to do is give the table about 6-8 beers samplers to taste before picking something you like. I usually suggest that if he does this for you, allow him to suggest some of their incredible dishes to feast on while enjoying your craft brew. If you agree to the food he suggests for the meal, he will simply just bring it out and it will be one giant feast. Again, Dave is the real deal and he knows the meaning of good service!! I see two couple that had gotten sat down and within minutes were attended. Great service, great food and awesome beer. I love the fact that there is actually somewhere in Petaluma you can get food after 9pm. They are open until 10pm and 11pm on Fri/Sat. Jason was our bartender and he was great. Tired a new beer that I haven't had and loved it - Spencer Trappist Ale. The Pork Belly Mac and Cheese is to die for!!! We started with the Mediterranean Salad and it was very fresh looking and tasty. The garlic fries were actually real garlic fries and not just french fries with a blob of garlic on top. read more

Love this place. But seriously what's not to love - drinking beer on a deck on the river. Come on! I This place rocks! I took my entire sales team here one evening - everyone chowed down (the meat eaters and vegans alike) and tried all sorts of beers. The food was really really good too, which was a bonus. The staff was cool. An added bonus you can just take the bridge right over the river to downtown if you feel like checking out any of the other taverns and bars that night. Our experience at Taps Beer Co & Kitchen was awful. It was our first time going to this tap house and the service made the experience very unenjoyable. We were sitting outside on the patio and we had an older gentleman that was our server. After ordering our drinks (only 2 beers), it took around 25 minutes to receive them. The server then told us that he would be right back to take our food order once he dropped off our drinks. The server was pre bussing tables and getting refills for other tables in his section, but failed to acknowledge us for another 20 minutes while we were still waiting to place our order. We had to get his attention to get our check as we were hungry and tired of waiting. Another 10 minutes went by and we had to remind him that we wanted our check. He proceeded to pull it out of his apron as he seemed to have it the entire time. I work as a server in a restaurant and understand if the restaurant was busy or if the server was new. But, the server was yawning and walking around refilling other tables drinks and finding other things to do while we continued to wait. Lastly, our total was $16.24. We paid $20 in cash and received $4.00 in cash back. As a restaurant owner, I would be deeply concerned if my server was giving more money back to customers in an attempt to receive a larger tip, which was extremely clear at the end of our visit. We enjoyed the beer, but are very disappointed in the service. read more
