The tacos Iberia...wee good, but the tortilla seemed a bit bland, as they serve in a double tortilla exterior wrap. The dipping juice is good...not great...and a bit bland compared to what I'm used to at other places. Staff was helpful and friendly enough. Came to another favorite spot while working in Springfield. Service isn't what sets this place apart. You'll get sat, a menu, your drinks, food, and bill. Hole in the wall, quaint and small restaurant. Cozy. Their tacos though... the portions are generous and those fresh, soft, and crispy tortillas are worth it. They don't saturate their tortillas in fat before grilling/toasting them. Tamales are superb, as well. Masa was soft and fluffy, packed with meat and flavorful. Salsas are packed with flavor and heat. The narrower the spout on the bottle, the hotter the salsa, word of advice. I'm still in the parking lot, stuffed, thinking about coming back for $2 tacos tomorrow. So good. read more

I am a KC native and I think about this restaurant each time I am in Springfield. I discovered this spot by accident, but now I can't stop going. It's a small, authentic Mexican restaurant located on a busy main street. The service has always been amazing, the servers are very attentive, the location is very clean and the food is delicious each time. This time around I ordered the Camaron Chicali and the Modelo michelada. The shrimp was dressed in a spicy sauce with good flavor and the michelada was a good size! If you're in the area, don't skip out on this restaurant. I do recommend their tacos and the vampiros as well. read more

Drink menu stated silver tequila but Jose was used. Drinks were ok, service was slow. Ordered oysters on the half shell and they came out frozen and soaked in lime juice. Been wanting to try this place because I'm always looking for different types of Mexican food. Nothing bothers me more than when someone says "who has the best Mexican food in town?" Ummm it's a country, and as such has different types of food!!! Hello that's like saying "what's the best barbecue." Well there's Texas, Carolina, Missouri and all of them are completely different! Okay sorry for the rant, but that leads me to the review because we haven't had and "Mexicali" food. The restaurant is actually pretty small. The menu was pretty extensive, and also a bit pricey. I didn't notice much on the menu that isn't at any other place I've been to. The only thing I noticed was Tortas. I ordered Birria tacos, and there were 5, but no beans and rice came with it, and the wife got a Sopas. There was no choice of meat it just came with beef. My wife said the it was okay, but the bread was extremely hard. My tacos were pretty good. We also ordered a cheese dip, and had to remind our waiter to get it. It wasn't great. The only memorable thing here was the verde they bring. It was some of the best sauce I've had. There are just so many Mexican restaurants here now that you really have to stand out to be recognized, and I'm sorry but this place just doesn't stand out. read more

Subtle flavors, unique menu choices, pleasant server in a smallish eatery. The exotic cocktails being made were in huge and I mean huge red ceramic mugs so yeah, there's that. Pretty hungry after an awesome workout; tacos was the craving of the day. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, there was only one other table occupied so we pretty much had the place to ourselves for a little while. We ordered an horchata (Mexican sweet rice water) it was very refreshing and delicious. Enough ice and not super sweet, just right. We received complimentary chips and salsa, I personally love getting my own little bowls and that's exactly how they serve them. I had 2 tongue and 1 al pastor tacos (the red meat). They were filled with lots of meat; tender, juicy and flavorful meat. The onions and cilantro were fresh. I had both salsas on my tacos, both delicious. The green is more milder and the red one will clean your sinuses a little. As we were finishing up they began to get busy, pretty much all their tables were filled with happy customers. I will definitely return and can't wait to try new things. Friendly staff, cleanliness and delicious food is a keeper in my book. read more

they were not waiting on us at all then we got served stale ass chips i had to spit it out it was so bad and cold!!!!! every other table was getting served so then we decided we are leaving. My own rating for this restaurant would be 3.5. Paul's would be 5. We ate there for lunch with relatives. It is a great restaurant for that. They had a large table for us all and the decor is really nice. The waiter was incredible. That is probably the best thing I remember. He was very personable, attentive, and accommodating. I had a sope and a gordita. They were just okay. The gordita there is too small, unlike what I am used to at Tortilleria Perches on West Sunshine. The one thing I really liked was the green salsa. Had quite a unique flavor. The one at Tortilleria Perches is still my favorite, but this comes a close second. Paul had spicy beef fajitas. He said they were the best he's ever had. One of our relatives really liked his fish tostada, which had a really pretty presentation (see for yourself in the picture below). I don't remember what other relatives had or their comments. We will return someday, but it will be a while. Our goal is to try all of the Mexican restaurants and food trucks in Springfield, and since we only get to town every other month, we have a ways to go. read more

Just had dinner there on a Saturday night. Sparsely populated at 6:30 pm, packed by 7 pm. Located in a small, separate building near Glenstone & Cherokee lights, within the Plaza strip center area so parking is abundant. The interior featured unique, colorfully painted Mexican scenes on the tables & chairs in a bright décor. It's a smallish space, though with full bar area with seating. Their air conditioning must have been on the fritz because numerous fans were blazing due to the 95 degree exterior heat. There were a few un-bussed booths away from the glass frontage so we ask a waiter if he would clean one up so we could sit in a cooler area. He kindly & diligently did so, leaving us with chips, salsa and a set of menus. The waitress was very friendly, bringing us waters and taking our drink order of two large margaritas and a large guacamole. We really intended to sample their Mexican seafood offerings but was swayed by their Chicken Flautas Cachanillas for my wife while I had the Enchiladas Chicali trio. I wanted to give TS,EM a higher grade than "OK" but I honestly can't based upon the fare we ordered: The margaritas' mixer was strongly sweet & tart, overwhelming the moderate silver tequila; the chips were ordinary & the salsa a bit less so (really needs work); the guac was very flavorful with the right mix of creaminess & chunks of tomato, onion & avocado with the right hint of cilantro. The flautas were large but lacked adequate internal seasoning. The enchiladas were smallish & only the verdes sauce had decent flavor while the red & cheese sauces were particularly bland. The rice was extremely good with tiny chunks of red & green peppers throughout - really some of the best around. The refried beans were of average consistency but tasty. One obvious problem is that they pile far too much shredded cheese atop their entrees, smothering the natural food flavors. We kicked ourselves for not ordering the varied seafood dishes as intended. I don't think the excessive heat played a roll - though a distraction, we really wanted to give the helpful staff a better restaurant score. We'll probably give TS,EM the benefit of the doubt, return & stick to our original seafood plan. read more

This is hands down some of the best Mexican food I've had in Springfield. We were having best friend dinner on a Sunday night and EVERYTHING closes early; except for Taqueria Cachanilla! They were warm and friendly and didn't make us feel like we had to eat and run. Everything was hot and delicious. The Margarita I had was good, not great. The chips and salsa were...meh. Had two gorditas barbacoa and a Burrito Mega Brandon carnitas, smashed the gorditas before I left the parking lot And took the burrito home with me. Wow, so good can't wait to back and get more. The burrito was very good but those gorditas were next level. If you order them, you probably won't take time to take a picture of them either. They were just so delicious. Best birria tacos I have ever tasted! There is a depth and seasoning to the consommé that is delicious. I have been searching for a place that would deliver this kind of flavor and Taquiera Cachanilla does just that. I also loved the taste of the pupusas with the perfect cabbage and red sauce accompaniments. The food here is crave-able. I'd been wanting to try this place because it looked authentic. Well I was right, and it was. Carne Asada was perfect and the flavor was best I'd had in ages. Street Tacos also amazing. They bring Salsa, hot sauce and Salsa Verde. This is amazing because I always have to ask for Verde. Staff was super kind and friendly. Will be eating here a ton.
